Stylish, comfortable room and lounge/kitchen in a great location. Superb bed and linen. Lovely bathroom products. Great breakfast
Hard to keep the room heat down at night

English: It was the worst experience. We arrived at the hotel and were told it was overbooked, even though the reservation had been confirmed on Booking.com more than two months prior, and they even implied it was our "fault" for not responding to their emails and calls the previous day. Of course, my husband and I were on vacation; I don't check my email or answer unknown numbers. And even if I had answered, I would have only been stressed for longer. Then they offered us another hotel in the chain, including breakfast and a taxi to get there. They made it seem like a good deal, but thankfully I wasn't fooled and compared prices and room photos online. Guess what? A basically identical room, and I would have to pay even more, and we didn't want breakfast because we have dietary restrictions. We told this to the hotel employee, who even said they could match the price and leave breakfast free anyway. But that's not the point... it's that they were trying to deceive me and the stress we were going through after hours of driving and being exhausted. That's when the story gets worse. I asked if, given the situation, they couldn't actually give us a better room at the other hotel, and she said she spoke to them and they didn't have any availability, so we had to go to the other hotel anyway. They called a taxi that took ages to arrive, and at the reception of the other hotel, guess what? The guy wasn't well-informed and we had to ask for the benefits as if they owed us nothing. So we carried our heavy suitcases to a room in a very remote wing of the hotel, it seemed like a labyrinth, and when we got to the room it felt like a basement. The room was completely dark, no air conditioning, no way to open the window or curtains because it faced the street at the same level as the pedestrians... but oh, there was some cheap wine waiting for us there...
Had full Scottish which was good but toast Was too hard
Toast And unable to drink from bar at 22.45 when returning to hotel
Amazing suite, bigger and nicer than an apartment. Location unbeatable.
Absolutely nothing.
Its location was great. Lovely bar area. The rooms were spacious and well equipped.
Location. Staff.
The food in the restaurant downstairs is totally tasteless. Really disappointing. Wouldn’t eat in there again. Shame.
So disappointed all the way around customer service sucks. I know we got here early and there hands were tied . But the lady at check in desk was exposing something to us when the bell hop or mgner , comes over and rudely interrupts. So then we go left hangin. Room it’s as good as a motel 6 . Where is it stated there no a/c like seriously! Then they said they’d bring up a fan hour later . Just feels like they were annoyed by us . It’s not been an experience I am used having I don’t wouldn’t recommend it stay here only great thing is it’s convenient to lots of shopping and bars and the castle but that’s all it’s got . Choose a different place for ur stay
The service was great and the staff were very pleasant.
At £400 a night this seemed extremely overpriced. We've come to expect far more for our money outside of Edinburgh.
The most exceptional hotel, the height of luxury in a perfect central location. The rooms were gorgeous we stayed in the suites on the 4th floor which had split level living and sleeping area. The beds were very comfortable. All the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Special mention to Joseph who greeted us every time we arrived and left the hotel he was brilliant making us feel right at home and he could offer directions or helpful recommendations. I cannot wait to return!!
Not grand at all. Advertised on the hotel’s website as having air conditioning and it does not. As such, windows open and guess what, car or building alarms going off from 215 am until ar least 3 am. Horrendous, especially cost and or point level to stay here, let alone noise level from people in the streets yelling or partying. I read all the reviews before picking this hotel and I can now say from experience, there is nothing grand about this hotel at all.
This hotel is exceptional. Service is perfection. Joseph at the front door was so welcoming and impressed us with his knowledge of the city and his recommendations. The rooms are amazing. I cannot wait to return.
I loved everything!
The lobby requires innovative. Its dull
I was disappointed to discover that the hotel advertises air conditioning as an amenity, but our room did not have it. When I asked the staff, I was informed that only certain rooms include air conditioning. If that is the case, the hotel should make this clear in the room descriptions rather than listing it as a general hotel amenity. Under normal circumstances, this may not have been a major issue. However, we stayed during an unusually hot week, and the lack of air conditioning made the room quite uncomfortable and significantly impacted our experience. The property itself has many positives, but transparency regarding room amenities is important. Guests should know exactly what they are booking so they can make an informed decision, especially during warmer months.
Some hotels are simply a place to stay. Others feel like home. The Edinburgh Grand is definitely one of them. The location is perfect—right in the heart of the city and within walking distance of almost everything. The in-suite washer and dryer and full kitchen were an unexpected luxury and made our stay so much easier. The shower felt like standing under a heavenly waterfall that you do not want to get out of it, and the bed was incredibly comfortable—supportive, cool, and so cozy that I slept like a baby every night. What truly sets this hotel apart is the staff. If Scottish hospitality is the standard for a five-star experience, then The Edinburgh Grand goes above and beyond. Special thanks to Joseph, Charles, and the restaurant manager, Scott. They are the finest examples of true Scottish gentlemen—warm, professional, and genuinely welcoming. As the Scots say, “Haste ye back.” We certainly will.
Location. The feel, the rooms
It can be a bit pricey for the sake of it
Smukt sted med flot indretning. Meget venligt og hjælpsomt personale. Dejlig morgenmad. Fantastisk beliggenhed.

Having traveled many countries throughout North America and Europe I try not to have expectations because many times I am disappointed. I just spent the better part of a week at the Edinburgh Grand in Scotland. The hotel exceeded any experience I have had in Europe. The food was amazing, I highly recommend the eggs Benedict! Even better were the people I met at the hotel. I have never seen a friendlier or more helpful staff. From the moment we arrived I felt the “vibe”. I can not suggest a visit strongly enough. One of my most highly rated hotels and my favorite of 40 years of travel. The weather not so much (LOL) but the people made it worth the trip to Scotland.
Hate to write this because we usually love the Edinburgh Grand. We booked a Loft Room without thinking heat rises. We could not get the loft to feel cool enough to sleep comfortably (even opened windows fully). We ended up calling the front desk about 1 am to ask for fans, but it was too late to get any good sleep before we needed to be up first thing in the morning. In my opinion, summertime is too hot to not at least just provide or offer fans at check in-especially for the loft rooms. We shouldn't have to call in the middle of the night-just have them in the rooms.

Aussergewöhnliches Hotel!!! Tolle Lage, Frühstück hervorragend, Mitarbeiter top!!!

Nothing
My husband and I were to stay here at the beginning of our Scotland vacation. I had been in England for three weeks for work, and he had arrived just that morning, so we were both tired and jet lagged, and more than ready for the luxurious room we had reserved. Upon arrival, we were very quickly told that there was no room available for us (this is a HUGE hotel, so this was a little hard to comprehend) and that a taxi was on its way to take us to one of their sister properties on the Royal Mile. I pushed back a little, but they were not willing to budge. The entire experience felt so offensive--like we were not wanted there and were being shuttled to a "lesser" property on the busiest, most touristy street in town. If I had wanted to stay over on the Royal Mile I would have booked a room there, but since we were looking for something a little nicer and wanted to rest, I booked this hotel at this location. Needless to say, I will never book at this hotel again. At the end of our trip we stayed right next door at the Gleneagles Townhouse and had a completely different experience--one that I will gladly repeat next time I'm in town.

Very central to new and old Edinburgh beautiful building very clean nice staff welcoming overall can’t fault it only one night stay wasn’t in hotel much but what a was in it very nice hotel, breakfast was really nice full Scottish
Beautiful hotel
Air conn in room was not easy to operate , room kept getting really hot !
Fantastic location. Excellent service. A great place to stay and enjoy the serenity of Edinburgh as a family. Memorable experience. Surprised at how easy for city commute through tram and buses and taste great food in Edinburgh.
Liked everything about this property, service and stay.
The location is excellent, right in the middle of St Andrew Square, this is 2 minute walk away from any kind of restaurant, eatery, pubs etc. The choice of eateries around this place is amazingly diverse - Indian, Italian, Mexican, Pubs, Chinese, Continental, etc. And all of them of very good quality. The Hop-on Hop-off bust stop is right in front of of the hotel. Ubers are super easy to get. It is walking distance from the Royal Mile, Princes Street etc. Natalie and Lilita the front desk, and their colleagues were amazingly helpful, every single time. The bed and linen were super clean and hygienic. Staff is amazingly warm and super efficient. In fact they converted what could otherwise have been a disappointing room experience into a warm, comfortable stay.
The room we took was a high end Suite. The living room of the suite was awesomely spacious and well structured, the bedroom of the suite was very tiny and very little space to even walk around the bed. The bedroom had two cupboards, but the wiggle room was so tiny that we could not keep our baggages there. We had to request for baggage stands and keep it in the living room. The lighting in the room could do with a little more brightness. The hotel does not have a 24/7 restaurant. Not even 24/7 in-room dining. The in-room dining closes at 9.30 PM. So you have to plan you dinner evenings and possibly keep some food in the room for if you are hungry or feel like a coffee later. The breakfast is also a la carte and not buffet. Vegan options food is limited. The bathroom is spacious, but the shower area did not have even a railing for seniors to hold on to when stepping out of the bath. This is seriously dangerous and they could slip as the floor is smooth.
A beautiful stylish hotel which is the perfect location.

Between the 6th of May & 9th of May 2026 my wife & I were invited back to stay at the Edinburgh Grand after a less than impressive first visit, however on this occasion it couldn't of been more different. We were warmly greeted by Gary (Hotel General Manager) & Jo (Head Concierge) at the door upon arrival, and this theme was consistent throughout our stay by not only them but the staff on the 4th floor (breakfast /afternoon tea room). This made you feel like you were staying with family rather than a hotel. Our room 606 was one bedroom suite, clean, modern and contemporary, however a couple of hooks or stylish coat stand wouldn't of gone a miss during our stay. The team then went the extra mile, by having a tailored complimentary package including flowers from the hotel management due to my wife celebrating her birthday, it really was appreciated by her and was a nice personal touch that wasn't expected. During our stay we experienced relaxed breakfast service in the historic atmosphere of the room within the building, I then worked it off using the excellent gym facilities on site.It also centrally located is ideal for anyone visiting like ourselves or on Business, we will definitely recommending it to others within our family & friends circle group. Therefore we would have no hesitation in returning in the future and may even bring our furry daughter with us next time, as we found out that some of the rooms are dog friendly. Regards Chris & Adele Pearce-Ayre

Was upgraded for free which was a huge surprise and greatly appreciated. Staff were amazing. Reception helped me with issues with booking.com and could not stop assisting. The breakfast room and food was like a 5 star restaurant, the staff were so great and went out of their way to ensure breakfast order was correct. The staff lift was broken but the reception gentleman moved 2 heavy suitcases up stairs from level 1 to level 2. Legend.
Our stay was only 3 nights. Could have stayed much longer.

Having traveled extensively around the world and experienced many luxury hotels, we can confidently say that this stay was truly outstanding. From the very first moment, everything reflected the highest level of quality and attention to detail. The room and bathroom were impeccably designed, with every element thoughtfully selected and of premium standard. The service was flawless — attentive, warm, and genuinely welcoming. The staff went above and beyond to ensure a memorable experience. Perfectly located in the heart of the city, the hotel is set in a beautifully restored historic bank building, which adds a unique sense of character and elegance. The blend of architectural heritage and sophisticated design creates a truly special atmosphere. We would recommend this hotel without hesitation and would be delighted to return for another stay.
Very helpful and friendly front desk staff, room was spacious with laundry and cooking facilities which was useful. The restaurant Hawksmoor is located within the hotel which is convenient if you don’t want to walk far and like good quality steak. Breakfast was good quality and included in our rate, and the breakfast staff were kind and helpful.
The room was hard to access a long way from reception involving two lifts and long walks down poorly lit corridors. It was stuck at the rear of the hotel so no view.
We were super impressed with the hotel and our first stay! We had booked for 2 nights and unfortunately due to a family member hospital admission had to shorten our stay. The hotel was super accomodating in modifying our booking- thank you Siobhan in reservations! It was my birthday plus we were celebrating our sons birthday in the Hawkmoor restaurant within the hotel ( great meal and service- for another review)- and they left us cake and champagne. Our room was gorgeous with views to Calton hill and the staff were lovely! We are in edinburgh often yet havent ever stayed here but this is def our new find! Thank you!
Space, size of room, bar area, location
Room was very warm , even with windows open.
Superb location, huge room and comfy bed
Great location, friendly staff, comfortable room, just right
beautiful rooms, amazing building, beautiful architecture and design, stunning breakfast room
Great location, friendly staff and good value for money.
This hotel is right in the city center. It has a very grand entrance and staircase. The staff are friendly and helpful. The suite was very clean and comfortable.
I would recommend it for a stay of a few days as we stayed only one night and didn’t get the use of the kitchen living area.
The hotel is exceptionally well run and maintained to a very a high standard. Staff are extremely well trained: polite, friendly and very attentive. We felt very welcome here. Particularly liked the Wandering Barman (Nick)- this is a brilliant addition to the guest experience.
Nothing- our stay was perfect!
Everything. Super charming and friendly staff. We arrived very early in the morning in Edinburgh and despite being Easter they managed to get us an early check-in. We stayed at one of the suites and we loved it. It is walking distance from Princess street and the old town and castle. We even loved dining at the in-house restaurant
Nothing
Letti super confortevoli
Vista dalla suite tripla
Spectacular decor; staff; location. A real wow moment when we entered our room. Comfy beds and beautiful bathroom.
Not much really, I think breakfast could have been a little more interesting but really wasn’t bad
I loved the fact the from the front door too reception was so professional but not intrusive. A credit too the whole team front and back of house. Thank you guys.
Couldn't stay longer.
Beautiful hotel, fabulous location. Breakfast was wonderful. The cherry on the cake are the team who work there - friendly, cheerful and could not do enough to help. Loved it. Will definitely be back.
The only slight gripe (and it really is splitting hairs) is that the bed was a little too firm for my comfort. A completely subjective thing though and it will be perfect for others.
Great location, friendly staff and great breakfast. Beds are so comfortable and overall a great hotel and would highly recommend
There was noise coming from windows which was slightly annoying.
Amazing hotel and experience. Upgraded us to a really amazing room with a view over the whole of Edinburgh. The staff were first class and couldn't have been more helpful. The standard of decor and design throughout the hotel is next level. Also, the location is about as good as you can get in Edinburgh.
Nothing really - it's great
Stylish, peaceful and very comfortable.
Couldn’t stay longer😊
The staff
Room telephone not working. No pool in Spa.
The room was clean, good space and had all the necessary appliances etc. The bathroom had a separate bath and shower unit The bed was very comfortable
In the room there was no information relating to overall hotel facitilities other than details relating to the mini bar costs and the availability of cocktails No milk for tea/coffee No details on what was complimentary in the room Woken up at 6.00am due to ongoing outside building work in the facinity The wait time for the at seat service regarding breakfast could of been better. The breakfast menu was limited (ok for a one night period)
It’s a stunning hotel in a fabulous location the staff were so friendly and funny the restaurant was great. And the room a studio was beautiful and so clean loved it
Nothing it was lovely
Got "upgraded" to a room only accessible by the fire exit. If they try to move you to rooms 105, 106, or 107 say no. These rooms are bigger but are very convoluted to access only by trashy fire stairs with waste lying everywhere. Also the breakfast deal is a scam. The food is very low quality and extremely overpriced. Paid £25 ($50 AUD!) for a Scottish breakfast that was drowning in oil with scrambled eggs resembling an omelette and some shrivelled sticks of bacon. Don't mind a breakfast like this for $15-$20 AUD but $50 is a scam. Walked past the kitchen and it was literally a broom closet with a stove.
The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful . My request for an allergy free room was handled very efficiently. We were allocated a lovely room on the 6th floor which was lovely
A few wee niggles, upon leaving the room on the last day a item was discovered, clearly from a previous guest !, which clearly should have been identified by housekeeping . Also a previous guest had obviously smoked out on the balcony and the remains of cigarettes were evident. We chose to have breakfast on the last day and based on multiple previous stays ,breakfast on this occasion was not to the same standard as before Quality not as good and missing items ,based on the cost and the standard of the Hotel this was disappointing.
The property was clean, modern and central. The gym was brand new with a yoga room.
Nothing.
We had amazing short trip to Edinburgh at this fabulous hotel! Great location, rooms had everything you would need. Staff were amazing from check in! As it was my husband’s birthday weekend, champagne and a wonderful fruit and cake plate were delivered. The staff were so kind and attentive. Extra thank you to reception staff and Charles for going beyond! Also Geordie Jo, you know!!! We will be back ❤️
