Rien !!
Friendly staff, nice breakfast that was included and restaurant on site for dinner. Especially liked the large room we had
Nothing really.
Very comfortable bed on loverly room. Good food esp the Salmon decent range of drinks Waiting staff great v helpful. Located next to a free car park with EV charging.
Our room was on 2 nd floor but there’s only a lift to floor 1 then lots of steps - I have mobility issues so it made it hard for me to- no staff offered to help.
The Location of the Hotel is good we had a good size room with a walk in shower. We had breakfast and we had dinner each evening, but we didn't realise through Booking.com we could have had a meal deal. The dinner was very good with a decent choice and reasonable price. The Breakfast was good, but at times a bit haphazard, it was supposed to start at 8am but never seemed to have everything ready on time. its ok if you want to sit all day but if you want to get up eat and go you were kept waiting for the fruit or croissants each day.
For the standard of hotel and the nice room we had, the beds /mattress were dreadful - lumpy and most uncomfortable, I did complain at reception but it was difficult to know who was actually in charge. The young part time staff were lovely and very helpful but they clearly were not in charge. I would still recommend this hotel as perhaps the beds in this room were a one off, it was probably made worse as we were staying a few nights.
Fantastic hotel, ideal location to visit Dumfries House. Hotel was comfortable, very clean and the food in the restaurant was excellent.
Having to evacuate the hotel because an idiot guest had activated the fire alarm. Not the hotels fault.
Excellent breakfast,,could not be faulted,,lovely room and comfy bed and very good value for the price paid and a lovely Sunday lunch ,highly recommended 👍👌
Pity fire alarm was set off after midnight but was no fault of the hotel or staff
Very comfortable overnight stay. Staff very friendly. Dinner and breakfast delicous.
Nothing
Downstairs
No cold water for shower. Only got one decent night sleep. Woken one night at 6.30 with noise of empty bottles going into recycling there was a wedding on Tuesday and it was like the Walton's with the guests shouting good night till 2am. On Wednesday there was no water in the room when I got back as they were sorting the boilers. I paid for a deluxe room and they hadn't provided a bottle of water for a drink. I was travelling home on Friday with 8 hour journey and was wakened by someone hoovering at 2am. I was told it might have been the night porter. When I complained I was offered a discount for next time and didn't have to pay for anything charged to room which didn't amount to much. It was like Fawlty Towers.
Excellent location with large free car park next to it. Staff, room and food were all excellent. The only negative was a large wedding party using the lounge and bar in the afternoon and early evening so nowhere to sit for a drink.
As above
High class accommodation. Very comfortable bed and pillows. The room was spacious. The restaurant served a delicious dinner menu and a lovely breakfast. There was a lift and plenty of car spaces. We would stay again.
Nothing
Overall good but the breakfast coffee was the worst I had ever come across
Coffee
Relaxed atmosphere, subtle background music, there was a wedding on and there was no excessive noise. Breakfast was very well presented and service was good.
nothing, it was good from check in to checkout. x
Staff very pleasant
Bed very uncomfortable. House keeping lax. Were not told our room was no use for elderly since no lift or help with bags.
The staff and hotel are excellent this was the second time we stayed however will not use again as price of 170 for one night is very overpriced. The only issue with the decor is the carpets seem very old and worn.
Staff
Dinner was good. Breakfast was ok - limited
better breakfast
Great location
I only found one fault and that was the bed, mattress very uncomfortably it needs replacing
Size of the room!
Room was above the function suite ! Therefore room was very noisy and the floor vibrated with the music! Should have been informed before I upgraded room! Fire alarm went off 4 times during stay because of band smoke ! Although we did receive a discount !!
The staff were very helpful and friendly. Service in the restaurant was prompt and accommodating
The pull out bed was very uncomfortable and small. I had springs in my back and did not sleep well. The room was supposed to be for 4 but not in my mind. The double bed was big enough but the pullout would not sleep 2 adults comfortably
Lovely hotel, lovely staff, lovely breakfast, clean and well maintained.
Only downside experienced was the extra sofa bed mattress which was super uncomfortable
I was very kindly upgraded for free to the honeymoon sweet as a little surprise and it was gorgeous. The staff were soo friendly, helped arrange our taxi's and made the stay very special. Breakfast was great too with lots to choose from. Would definitely stay again if im in the area.
Staff very helpful and friendly
The bed was very hard and very uncomfortable and thin, and need toilet brush in just so guest can feel there not leaving dirty toilet....
Friendly and helpful staff
Very bad nights sleep walls paper and very noisy neighbours!! Very uncomfortable night on third floor of hotel. Never again!
Excellent breakfast, friendly efficient staff, parking was great, with free car park adjacent to building
A bit too many steps even on the same level
Well maintained hotel, room was excellent
Nothing to complain about
It was stunning! The first building and outside area are beautiful. As soon as you open the doors luxury just hits you. The staff are amazing. Happy to help in any way, breakfast was brilliant. We will definitely be back!
It’s was very warm in the room. We couldn’t find a thermostat and the radiator was off. Tbf, we didn’t ask for assistance from the staff but I’m sure if we did it would’ve been fixed.
Booked at last minute, great room, superb food. Fantastic staff.
Apart from overcooked poached egg breakfast was lovely. Had a lovely evening meal on arrival. Service was great. Room was fabulous, really comfortable and clean. Plenty parking.
Although I had two good mirrors none were near a plug so that I could use my straighteners. Although I didn't need a hair dryer, I couldn't see one. There was, however, an iron and ironing board. For anyone with heavy luggage or with mobility issues there is no lift after the first floor.
Good for an overnight stop or as a base for visiting the area. Not much happening in Dumfries itself. Car parking in the adjacent free council car park OK.
Excellent food and service. Could not fault the staff friendly efficient and couldn’t be more helpful.
Bed not exactly comfortable and smell in room when we arrived. Room rather small and decor dated in hall ways. Carpets could n Be cleaner. Lot of noise from the road as window had to be open as the room was warm.
Stunning , clean.
N/A
Very happy with the staff & restaurant also our room. It was a little difficult having 42 steps to get to our room.
The shower head was difficult to operate! . A poor design.
Hotel and staff great food very good .
Paid Extra for a deluxe room but it overlooked the bin yard . Room twenty one limited menu would be a problem if you were staying more than two nights.
Helpful, Friendly staff. Very good evening meal & breakfast options. Cosy room, good shower! free parking. All in all a very good hotel at a good price!
nothing really - if there was one thing it would be the bed was a little soft for me - but it was still comfy.
A well run hotel with efficient staff and attractive layout. Excellent food.
Nothing
Wonderful room, excellent bed, tastefully furnished.
Rooms are clean and spacious. Great food at the restaurant and the staff are always pleasant. Big free of charge car park outside which is handy if you travel by car.
Fabulous hotel with gorgeous bedroom decor, comfy beds and lovely bathroom. We also enjoyed their fantastic breakfasts and had two dinners in the restaurant and both meals were superb with great staff too
Nothing really. We stayed 3 nights and no room servicing occurred which we found strange, had to go and ask for fresh towels.
Everything fantastic
Very nice quiet room. Excellent breakfast and evening meal. Free parking next to hotel Thoroughly enjoyed our stay with hotel staff very friendly.
Due to extremely hot weather, room was vey warm without air conditioning, but thankfully a cooling fan was supplied which helped greatly
Staff on reception were excellent particularly when we had an issue with a booked taxi
Nothing
Excellent breakfast/supper. Great local produce ie square sausage, good bacon, quality beef in pie. Beautifully cooked.
Laundry/linen bags stacked in public places.
Very nice hotel well located for working or visiting the immediate area. Hotel food was good, and plenty of local amenities in the town.
The pleasant staff
Very noisy no tables outside
The property was very clean and well presented.
The bedroom was extremely warm due to the weather and would have benefited from a fan in the room as the window was quite small and didn’t provide air circulation.
The staff were so helpfull even with recommending and providing taxi phone numbers. It’s a lovely building, definitely a bit quirky in its layout. Would love to spend a bit more time there.
Perhaps the place needs a wee bit of TLC. A few cobwebs from the main light shade in the room and a wee bit of attention to detail would be nice. We would definitely rebook and use again though.
Everything!!!
Nothing!
Good choice of cooked breakfasts
Fruit would have been good
Great proximity for a visit to Dumfries House. Staff were great.
Nothing
Really nice and presentable and very friendly staff and easy to access
Nothing
Everything was fantastic!
Light, bright, clean and beautiful was the impression when we walked in and we were not disappointed with our room or the food and service.
Nothing to dislike.
Location, cleanliness, service and dining including pub and included breakfast. Definitely a wonderful place to hold a wedding reception with to banquet/party rooms. Or to stay for a special occasion.
Price was high especially when compared to Airbnb with size and included amenities. The common areas were left looking a little rough with the worn dirty appearance of carpets. The room and WC were small and the many stairs to 3rd floor with no elevator was less than enjoyable with having some temporary mobility issues. We don't need the restaurant to be on site and like having at least a little fridge but even better if with a little freezer too.
The large bed was not very comfortable but otherwise very good
A well kept hotel which is handy for visiting Dunfries House. A well stocked bar was most welcome and the food in the restaurant was pretty good. Car parking was free and easy.
Nothing, though I've slept in more comfortable beds.
Everything was great staff were great rooms were clean food was spot on , should have found this hotel age's ago stop up here quite often and will stop here again
Nothing really
Evening meal and breakfast was good
Genally dingy, with well worn carpet. Bed (room 16) was too had and a bit lumpy for me. Also the duvet was too hot for such a warm night.
Modern and very convenient for Dumfries House
Nothing
Hotel was very nice and clean staff very friendly
Nothing
Lovely little hotel close to Dumfries house which we were visiting. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Breakfast and evening meal were both lovely, again with great service. Would definitely recommend
Friendly, approachable and very helpful staff
Soft pillows and warm room, which I am sure would have been rectified if I asked, so not a problem, really.
The hotel and staff brilliant The food was delicious The comfortable bar area was perfect
Didn't like the fact that the duvet was far too small for the cover and for the size of bed I understand the hotel likes to tuck the sides of the cover in howeveryou don't sleep like that The duvet needs to drape down the sides for comfort And pillows far too flat But everything else in the room was perfect
Goede ligging, onderweg naar verder in Schotland
We hadden een kamer aan de kant van de drukke weg, dit was rumoerig
Food and location up to expectation. I have stayed here several times over the years. Staff always friendly and helpful. Room clean and comfortable.
The hotel was central to area to visit and the food was very good
The room we were given initially 'suffered' from an intolerable, humming sound. We were moved without any difficulty but the TV did not work.
Breakfast great
Very convenient location
Not enough convenient electrical sockets in bedroom
great value for a one night stay. good food too
Everything!!!!! stunning little find this one! we travel to Scotland regularly and will most definitely be booking here from now on
leaving!!!!!
Friendly welcome and very tasty breakfast. Clean room and well equipped.
Creaky floorboards, old window thag didnt block out sound, and a hard mattress.
The staff were really exceptional. Catered to our needs - including dieatary requirements really well. When there was an issue with our booking - booking.com told us we had dinner as part of the deal but the hotel didnt have that recorded - they dealt with it so amazingly well and really accommodated us and made it no problem. We had one exceptional staff member throughout. I wish I knew her name. She has a young 18 month boy. She was superb! Honestly! If anyone from the hotel reads this I can tell you she deserves a raise.
The bed was quite hard. But apart from that it was great.
A relaxing place to stay with very friendly young staff. Ideal location for the Boswell Book Festival.
Very friendly staff, good food, and comfortable
Well located for Dumfries House.
Dark dining room requires more lighting. Very complicated billing between set DB&B and à la carte menus.
Bed was comfortable
Shower was either roasting hot or freezing. I got a room specifically with a bath, to relax, but couldn't due to the ongoing water situation. Radiator wasn't working either, so an electric heater was put in it's place. Hotel would be good if it was maintained.
Good location with lots of free parking. Lovely bar and restaurant. Breakfasts excellent. Very cheerful, friendly, helpful staff.
Warm welcome, room clean and comfortable. Staff very attentive at breakfast and evening meal.
Would have liked outside area away from cars to enjoy the sunshine. Only option was terrace at the front of car park near the road and entrance to the car park. Drain smell inside the hotel at times too.
Nice looking hotel & well decorated. Unfortunately kitchen closes at 8.30pm, even on saturday so trying to get food at 8.20pm was impossible... Mattress in my room was well past it's sell by date and without a topper would have been a nightmare. Shame-could be a great place to stay.
Beautiful building and decor.
Staff was competent, helpful and friendly. The hotel itself neat and tidy and well laid out. The room was spacious, had all the facilities one would expect and bed very comfortable.
Cannot say there was anything I could criticise
Very clean. Helpful staff. Satisfactory even if not memorable food.easy parking.
We had a basic continental breakfast but when we asked for Earl Grey tea we were informed that we would have to pay an extra charge which seemed ridiculous.
the food is always good lovely breakfast friendly staff
everything was great
Emergency exit light was very distracting in the room (couldn’t be turned off).
Lovely hotel, very friendly helpful staff. We were attending a concert at Dumfries House. The hotel arranged a taxi for us both ways. £9.50 each way. Food was gorgeous and reasonably priced, drinks too.
Very noisy
All in all the food and servise was great
The shower room NEEDS A hand rail ,
Wonderful hotel, beautiful place, luxurious rooms, excellent food, staff, location, friendliness
Nothing. Ive traveled a lot and this would be highly recommended.
The hotel has modern fresh furnishings combined with a traditional cosy feel.
The hotel is tired, room was grubby with cobwebs, bed was uncomfortable because it was so old. Felt like I was falling out of it. No lighting outside to show the entrance. Overall poor and very unloved hotel.
Everything
Excellent hotel which was well presented. Staff were also excellent.
Very clean and modern.
Location and friendliness of all the Staff
Can’t find fault with the property!
The Dumfries Arms Hotel offers friendly, smiling, and efficient staff who make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. The food is consistently good, well prepared, and well presented. The rooms are comfortable, spotless, and clearly well cared for, making it an easy place to relax and enjoy your stay.
In the part of the hotel where I stayed, there was no lift, and the stairs were quite a climb. This didn’t put me off re‑booking, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re booking for someone with a disability, older guests, families with prams, or anyone travelling with heavy luggage. I’m sure the staff would happily help, they’re fantastic, but it’s still worth considering in advance.
The bar area was nice with the fire.
Prices are a bit on the steep side for drinks!
The staff were really helpful and the hotel was very comfotable. My wife loved the cocktails. The staff could not have done more when i became ill - thankyou so much.
Nothing to dislike.
Beautiful find. Clean, friendly, fantastic
Exceptionally clean , very friendly staff at reception and in the restaurant . Good food. 1 minute from work . Toiletries were lovely.
Winter , feather duvet was too warm for this time of year. No bottled water in the room .
Breakfast was fantastic l think in part because food was local produce . Staff are so friendly and attentive without being overbearing.
I enjoyed everything about my stay .
TV not working on one of the bedrooms, and in the other the iron had burn marks on it which came off on my skirt , luckily washed off , ironing board v. difficult to get off the tail
The breakfast was excellent, especially the bacon best I’ve had in ages
