The room was clean and tidy
Noise from the neighbouring room. Walls are very thin.
Pretty much everything was great. Very comfortable room & beds. Everything you need & a little more (such as a small fridge, a folding table in the triple room we had & a good range of coffee, hot chocolate & tea - including a little teapot!). Hong was lovely & explained everything & gave us a few local tips. Would stay there again without a doubt.
Just a couple things looked a little tired (such as rips in the net curtain & a slightly wrecked lampshade) but super minimal things.
Owner Mr. Hon is very kind and helpful. Room is clean and cosy with a fridge. Breakfast is also nice. Parking is behind the building.
The breakfast and the service
Staff helpful.
The attic room was tiny. It had a velux window with no functional blind. I stayed during the heat wave. It was unbearably hot.
The whole stay was fantastic and Hong and his staff were brilliant throughout. Will definitely stay here again.
Location was very good.Near to the town centre.Breakfast was very good with lots of choice.Nf
Perhaps net curtains for more privacy.
It was closed to where we needed to be, and it was clean.
The place is tired, its in dire need of refurbishment. There are cracks in the walls and everywhere would benefit from painting, maybe inject some warmth to the room with colour. The white walls are very clinical. The walls are bare and it feels unloved. Two of the bulbs didnt work. They had a tiny tv, youd need binoculars to see it. There was a bizarre tiny fridge in there, rusty and old. There was a bottle of tap water in there, bottled water is so much more hygienic and cheap. A man showed us to the room, but it was totally unnecessary to come in the room and tell us that the tv worked with a remote and pointed out the fridge, as if we'd never seen one of those before! Hardly any plug sockets and no mirror at all except a tiny one in the bathroom. The bathroom was functional but small. The directions were non existent to get to the carpark at the back. I would suggest that the owners put directions in the listing that they need to turn into Miller Street to park. It cost £68 for one night, which is cheap, but honestly, it didn't feel worth the money at all.
Great place to stay. I have been here many times over.

Close proximity to town / Hospital
I stayed initially in an en-suite room which was fabulous a fridge good working shower room was spacious and very comfortable, my second I was placed in the box room which was just fine but very small.
My room at the top of the house was pretty much self-contained with its own ensuite bathroom and tea and coffee making facilities. When I arrived the proprietor was soon on the scene, friendly and clearly explained everything. The guesthouse is within walking distance of Newcastle town centre. There is also a bus stop.right outside the property.
The guesthouse.is situated along a busy main road. It probably wouldn't be ideal for someone with mobility issues. As there a lot of steep stairs and no lift. Although my room was essentially self-contained, I can't vouch for the other rooms. I got the feeling they had shared bathroom facilities.
Near to places to eat.
Comfortable and clean room,.well equipped. Friendly welcome. Good location. Very good value.
Nothing.
Host was lovely and welcoming. Bed comfy
Shower not very clean
Room and guest house were spotless! As per request my room was at the back to lessen noise disturbance and the owner Hong was very pleasant and obliging. He even provided a good size fan to help cool the room as we were having extremely high temperatures and the room was stifling. Several secure entry and exit points from building. Also the bonus of free parking to rear of hotel plus plenty of on road parking though 2 hours restriction 9-5 here. My own score would be 9/10 and I would definitely return if I was in the area again.
Loathe to be critical as I enjoyed my stay here and in truth very little wrong. The only slight difficulty I had was fathoming the shower operation which took a lot of fiddling and the actual shower unit was a little small for me at 6 foot plus but I managed!
Nice host, good location
My headboard was in need of changing, it had seen better days, all the plastic was flaking off
The Clayhanger is an absolute gem of a guest house. It appears to be very well run. The staff were extremely courteous, friendly and welcoming. The room had its own natural quirkiness, but observe the mind your head signs. You will bang your head a few times! But don't let this put you off. The room was excellent and very clean. The fridge was a huge bonus. The entry system (perhaps unfairly criticised in other reviews) works very well. The location was perfect for my stay and the excellent (albeit sometimes confusing) bus links connect well to Hanley and Stoke. Buy a Smart Day Ticket if you plan to use more than one bus in a day. The success of this trip has opened up the potential of a return visit to the area, and I would not hesitate to book this lovely room again.
It should be born in mind that Newcastle-under-Lyme is a naturally hilly area. Be prepared for some good exercise! The room was superb but I did have trouble with the window blind not staying closed. I did not report it as it didn't bother me too much. Being on the second floor there are no immediate neighbours. I was travelling alone on this trip, but my girlfriend would have been more sensitive to it.
Exceptional host, grand location, faultless

Utensils not available in room
Lovely room, lovely hotel, great value for money
The room was spotless and I had a fantastic night sleep I didn't want to get up The fridge and water was an added bonus The host was lovely
Wish I stayed longer
Very clean, easy check in and out. Very friendly staff. Has TV, fridge, hair dryer
Value for money, decent if small room and comfortable single bed. Facilities were great, good to have the use of a fridge and microwave downstairs.
Bit of confusion about whether breakfast was included in the booking.com deal, I should have realised it wasn't though but the B&B guest book led me to wonder if it was the case otherwise.
The room was clean and comfortable. I chose not to have the breakfast as the timings were a little too early for me - could they be extended to 9.30am? However, I will consider it on future visits.
I would have liked a full-length mirror in my room. I was going out for an evening event and it would have been nice to have had more than just the mirror over the wash basin to check that I looked ok. The fan for the bathroom was particularly noisy. I struggled with the gate once I had put the code in - it refused to open. However, there was a resident in the area who opened the gate for me.
Nice selection for breakfast. Scrambled egg on toast. Cereal and a small pot of tea was all lovely. Bed was very comfy. Shower was hot and powerful.
I honestly have no complaints. For the price it was all excellent.
Was easy to find, the room and facilities was good, the bed was comfy. And the host was helpful with the instructions on using the automatic lock with the fob. If I am going to the area in the future, I will be happy to stay over again. And I will recommend to other people who I know to book a stay in your guesthouse if they are visiting the area.
Myself and my friend didn't like the automatic lock. But we got the hang of it after some practice.
I have stayed here on many occasions and just keep returning for more.
Closeness to my destination and bus station.
The single bed was very narrow and thus not very comfortable for an adult
Pricing is excellent especially for the location. The quality of facilities in the room and in the communal bathroom is above anything else available in the area at that price. Staff are polite and professional and communicate well with booking.com. I have visited and accidently booked a few weeks ahead and staff were able to accommodate me for the night on short notice and to give me a refund even though the booking is advertised as non refundable on the site.
The television is broken, aerial is hanging out the back. The mattress is uneven assumed due to age and heavy use.
Excellent location, friendly and helpful host - clean comfortable room, slept really well. Excellent facilities.

Nothing
I arrived after a terrible day, it was a nightmare. When I arrived I thought to common areas (carpets) looked very tired and felt down. However the general level of service and the staff made all the difference.
A spare duvet, it was a bit cold and the spare blanket was a bit wimpy
Perfect All good and clean No problem
