Reviewed Sep 16, 2026Leider waren wir nur 2 Nächte in diesem wirklich kleinen Paradies. Wir wurden bereits bei der Ankunft überaus herzlich empfangen. Die Familiensuite mit zwei Schlafzimmern und 2 Bädern war mit sehr guten Betten ausgestattet und je mit einem Bad. Alles extrem sauber. Von der Terrasse aus hatten wir freien Blick auf den Teich mit vielen Seerosen der zugleich als Wasserstelle von einigen Tiere genutzt wird. Das Frühstück/ Mittag und Abendessen waren wunderbar und auch auf die vegetarische Ernährung unserer Tochter wurde geachtet . Ein Lob nochmals an die Küche. JB hat uns auf den Safaris mit wahnsinnigen Wissen über Tiere/ Flora und Fauna beeindruckt und wusste immer auf alle unsere Fragen eine Antwort. Wir haben sehr vieles gesehen und es blieben uns überaus tolle Eindrücke. Wir können das Lions Place aufs wärmste Empfehlen und möchten nächstes Mal unbedingt länger bleiben.

Reviewed Sep 14, 2026Die Unterkunft war ein einziger Traum und der unübertroffene Service machen den Lions Place zu einem Highlight. J.P. ist der beste Ranger den man sich vorstellen kann und kann durch sein Wissen bzw. seiner Liebe für Tiere jeder Art nur ein Vorbild für andere Ranger sein. Das Essen war ein Traum J.P. bzw. sein Team haben jeden Wunsch erfüllt und Standards für eine Halbpension gesetzt, die in Zukunft nur schwer an Qualität und Individualität übertroffen werden können.

Reviewed Sep 3, 2026The lodge blends perfectly well into the landscape and is built with many natural materials. The pool and particularly the pond just outside the pool area is beautiful and attracts a lot of wildlife.
JB is an owner and guide who cares 24/7 for the guests and has no problem spending eight hours a day on the jeep with you. Hannah, Mavis and pretty keep the house perfectly prepared and cook amazing French-African crossover menus.

Reviewed Aug 20, 2026Lodge et hôte exceptionnel. Aux petits soins du début à la fin dans un cadre intimiste (2 chambres seulement) qui ne fait pas "usine à touristes".
Le logement et les chambres sont magnifiques. Terrasse et piscine au milieu des animaux qui peuvent parfois passer vous dire bonjour (une famille éléphant dès notre arrivée!) tout en restant sécurisé si on respecte les consignes. Repas au coin du feu le soir avec le bruit des animaux plus ou moins loin.
JB, l'hôte et guide francophone et anglophone qui nous a reçu est extrêmement sympathique, cultivé, et passionné par ce qu'il fait (pleins d'anecdotes et d'informations sur les animaux, la réserve ou l'Afrique du Sud en général).
Les safaris dans la réserve du Balule nous ont permis de voir pleins d'animaux (Lions, Éléphants, Girafes, Rhinos, Hippos, Zèbres, etc... et même un Caméléon!) et découvrir un environnement magnifique (le fleuve Olifant notamment).
Enfin en comparaison à beaucoup d'autres lodges et réserves proposant des Safaris le tarif avec hébergement est des plus correcte, voir attractif.
Notre seul regret est de ne pas y être resté plus longtemps. 1 nuit est trop court, minimum 2 ou 3 est certainement ce qu'il y a de mieux.

Reviewed Aug 20, 2026Es war wirklich alles perfekt. Unterkunft war sehr komfortabel und das Personal extrem zuvorkommend. Das Essen war köstlich und reichlich und die Safaris waren toll ( Nashorn, Löwen ,...) inkl. Sonnenuntergangs Gin Tonic. Man merkt bei allem J.B.s Begeisterung.

Reviewed Aug 11, 2026De vriendelijkheid van JB en zijn mensen. De mooie en schone kamers. ontbijt aan het zwembad met een bezoekje van een kudde olifanten op 10 meter. De persoonlijke sfeer. Maar 2 kamers dus lekker rustig.

Reviewed Aug 10, 2026JB en zijn collega's hebben uitstekend voor ons gezorgd. We waren toevallig de enige gasten, se andere kamer was leeg. Het eten is goed verzorgt en smakelijk. Mocht je toch iets anders willen eten, dan wordt dat geregeld. De olifanten liepen zo langs de accommodatie bij de waterhole, heel gaaf. JB is uiterst vriendelijk, maakt tijd voor een praatje en weet veel te vertellen op een gamedrive en over de omgeving. Hij komt je ophalen bij de gate zodat je niet verdwaald naar de lodge. Wij zouden hier nogmaals heen gaan.
Ons bed was voor ons wat hard.

Tout le monde est très accueillant.
Nous avons adorés tous les safaris, en français grâce à JP et JB où nous avons beaucoup appris et vu beaucoup d’animaux, parfois juste devant le lodge.
L’organisation était parfaite avec 2 safaris par jour.
Petit déjeuner, collation au bord de la piscine et dîner le soir au coin du feu. Nous avons très bien mangés.
Le lodge a aussi fait l’intermédiaire avec une agence locale pour la réservation d’une excursion au Blyde River canyon.
À noter une très grande propreté des lieux.

Die Lodge ist wunderschön und ab und an hat man das Glück das Tiere vorbeikommen. Die Game Drives haben sich täglich selbst übertroffen und J.B. Hat es geschafft uns viele magische Momente zu bereiten, die wir nie vergessen werden. Wir haben auch wahnsinnig viel Hintergrundwissen zu Tier und Natur erhalten. Wir können die Lodge zu 100% empfehlen und werden wieder kommen!

Reviewed May 19, 2026Le cadre est vraiment exceptionnel, nous avons eu la chance d’observer des éléphants passer devant le lodge au petit déjeuner, un moment suspendu qui résume particulièrement l’expérience vécue ici.
Les safaris ont tous été différents, avec à chaque sortie de nouvelles surprises et découvertes, avec une grande diversité d’animaux. JP a largement contribué à rendre cette expérience unique. On sent quelqu’un de passionné, qui connaît parfaitement son environnement et aime le partager.
Chambre confortable, salle de bain très bien équipée. Tout est pensé pour qu’on s’y sente bien.
Mention spéciale pour la cuisine de Danielle : généreuse, créative, pleine de saveurs. Dîners pris en extérieur, autour du feu.
Un grand merci au personnel pour sa gentillesse.
On repart avec le sentiment d’avoir vécu bien plus qu’un simple séjour.

Tout s’est parfaitement bien passé du début à la fin.Un immense merci à JP pour sa passion et son savoir qu’il partage avec générosité. Grâce à lui, j’ai pu découvrir de nombreux animaux lors des safaris et vivre des moments uniques.Je tiens aussi à remercier Danielle pour sa cuisine exceptionnelle… qui me manque déjà ! Chaque repas était un vrai plaisir.
Et que dire de ces éléphants qui viennent jusqu’au lodge pour égayer le séjour… un spectacle magique et émouvant, difficile à oublier.
Merci à vous deux de m’avoir fait vivre une expérience aussi mémorable. Je repars avec des souvenirs plein la tête.

Reviewed Oct 26, 2025We had the most wonderful days as a family at Lions Place. JB is the perfect host and an even better ranger. His game drives were incredible, and he shared so many fun and inspiring stories about nature and wildlife.
Everything was perfectly organized. Anna and Pretty were two incredibly kind hosts who also happen to be amazing cooks. Together, the three of them made a fantastic team and made us feel completely at home.
We asked JB if he could arrange something special for our parents’ 35th wedding anniversary, and what they put together was truly amazing: a beautifully decorated room and an unforgettable breakfast by the river.
To top it all off, we were lucky enough to have elephants visit the lodge twice, an experience we’ll never forget.
Dear JB, Pretty, and Anna, thank you for the wonderful time, your warmth, and your hospitality. We ended our trip in the best possible way, thanks to you!

His two lovely employees prepare excellent food throughout the whole day. We had an incredible time and were really sad to leave. Thank you!
You might gain some weight because of the delicious food and the big plates ;)

JB замечательный хозяин, все знает про сафари и Африку, не просто возит по саванне, но реально каждый выезд это вызов для него обнаружить животных в своей среде обитания. Его персонал идеально следит за чистотой комнат, а готов выше всяких похвал. Вы не останетесь голодными и равнодушными к вкуснейшему сочетанию европейской и южноафриканской кухни.
Эти мелочи не заметны на фоне отношения к гостям и дикой природы, которая окружает гостей на каждом шагу.

Reviewed Sep 28, 2025Wir haben uns im Lions Place außerordentlich wohl gefühlt. Wir fühlten uns willkommen und wunderbar betreut von J.B und den beiden guten Geistern Hanna und, Britta. Der Game Drive haben wir uns sehr spannend und das Essen am Boma sehr romantisch. Wir waren traurig, dass wir am nächsten Tag schon von diesem herrlichen Platz abschiednehmen mussten.

Reviewed Aug 28, 2025Die Lodge liegt in einem Game Reserve, umgeben von der Natur und nichts weiter. Die Elefanten kamen wirklich zum Trinken an das Wasserloch und am Abend wurde uns auf der Terrasse ein Dinner gereicht. Die französische Küche war herausragend und zu viel. JB hat eine sehr große Erfahrung als Ranger und hat uns soviel gezeigt und erklärt. Man kommt voll auf seine Kosten.

De lodge ligt midden tussen de dieren en we hebben olifanten gezien bij de lodge. Personeel is uitsluitend met heerlijke maaltijden en super service. Echt wen top plek!

Reviewed Aug 7, 2025L'endroit est magique avec vue sur un pond. Le lodge est petit ce qui permet de se sentir VIP. La proximité d'une pièce d'eau nous a permis d'observer des animaux pendant la période entre les safaris. Le guide bilingue français / anglais est compétents et réponds à toutes les questions.
La suite familiale partage une salle de bain pour deux chambres. Les propriétaires ont l'intention de construire une salle de bain spécifique à la chambre "enfant" dans les prochains mois.

Reviewed Jul 21, 2025A lovely lodge run by a very friendly and very helpful French family. We stayed in the family suite which was spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast and meals were delicious home cooked food with generous portions. We did several safari trips with the hosts and we really enjoyed these. The scenery in this area is beautiful. The highlights for us were driving alongside 2 lionesses and the elephants visiting the lodge. We loved watching the family of elephants bathing in the waterhole and taking a drink from the swimming pool.

Reviewed May 31, 2025Lions Place is a fabulous lodge. Located in the middle of a private reserve bordering the Kruger National Park, the hotel provides a luxury experience. Besides being very nice, well decorated and comfortable, it offers several alternatives to tour the area with highly trained guides (Congratulations to JB and Ian for their fantastic work as guides!) The room is very spacious, with a very comfortable bed, a large bathroom with a large bathtub, closets, tea and coffee making facilities, cold water and an incredible view of the savannah.
Lions Place also has a swimming pool, and two viewpoint that allow you to view the beautiful scenery, plus the garden where if you are lucky you can find wild animals (we saw a porcupine). JB, who is in charge of the place is the best! Very friendly, welcoming and an excellent guide both in the area and during the full day safari we did in Kruger.
At Lions Places you can also request, in addition to the value of your stay, a dinner, which is an unforgettable experience. A French and South African fusion dinner with a starter, main course and dessert, which, weather permitting, is served outdoors. In our case we did a full day safari (exceptional!) and a morning bush walk. Both instances were amazing! We saw lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos, and many other mammals and birds that made the visit unforgettable. A special note to the ladies who run the place, they are very kind and excellent cooks! Totally recommended and we would stay there again.

Reviewed Apr 29, 2025The whole experience was magical, and one we will remember for the rest of our lives. We were blown away by the efforts made by Danielle in hosting us, from the amazing home cooked food in such a beautiful setting to making sure we had clean rooms, new towels, and made beds to return to every morning. As for the safari, it is difficult to find the words to describe how amazing this was. We really appreciated JP sharing his experiences and knowledge of the animals and his patience in answering our many questions. There is nothing like seeing an elephant with its baby walk right past you or a lion so full after a kill that it can barely move. In the end, we saw zebras, giraffes, rhinos, hippos, impala, rare wild dogs, and many other animals and birds. We already miss our coffee by the river as the sun comes up...it was perfect in every way.

Reviewed Feb 14, 2025Lions Place is in the middle of a game preserve, so it is remote, but that is essential to its charm. You are in the middle of the habitat of African wildlife. Nevertheless, JB has managed to create a really high-end lodge. The building is lovely, the rooms are very comfortable, and the meals are exceptional. We went on four safaris and they were magical.

Reviewed Nov 20, 2024An absolute little jewel in the Gritjie private game reserve. JP & Danielle and at the time also their daughter Camille gave our honeymoon stay the absolute perfect touch. Extra champagne and a personal congratulations card gives you bubbles in your belly as well. 🥰
JP is an excellent ranger with a lot of knowledge which he enjoys to share and Danielle make the best food to your preferences you can imagine. You can rest assured that you will not leave this place hungry. This is the best safari experience we have ever had. Although we did not see an overwhelming amount of animals but that is a total lottery.
This stay was totally A-mazing!!! 🤩😍
We were hoping to see all the big 5’s of course. But it is always a lottery. 3 out of 5 (rhinos, elephants and lions) plus a lot of other species is still quite alright.

Reviewed Oct 28, 2024Wow. What an exceptional stay. Beautiful thatched accommodation with good sized family rooms and well-equipped bathroom. Lovely breakfast with plenty of choice, and evening meal was a delight too. The location of this accommodation adjacent to a watering hole attracts lots of wildlife. For example, a giraffe came for a drink during the afternoon. JP (the owner) is extremely knowledgeable about the local wildlife and his tours are wonderful. Don’t miss out on the bushwalk with a local ranger for a different aspect on wildlife in the park.

Reviewed Jul 7, 2024Our stay at Lions Place Lodge was fantastic. The lodge is beautiful and well-maintained, with lovely rooms and views of the bush. The friendly staff gave us a warm welcome and were always ready to ensure we had the best time.
We enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the mornings and dinner in the evenings. The location is perfect for safari enthusiasts, offering easy access to stunning bush walks and game drives.
Overall, Lions Place Lodge exceeded all our expectations. We highly recommend this lodge and look forward to returning!

Reviewed Aug 17, 2022Wauw wauw wauw. What an amazing time we had here at Lions place. We have been together with JB and the family for 3 days. We did a lot: from visiting Kruger Park to game drives and a Bush walk. The family is amazing! JB knows so much and is passionate about the bush. He showed us a lot of animals (elephant, lions, giraffes, kudus, buffalos and we even saw a Leopard at the logde!), which was awesome but the best thing was the family really made us feel so welcome and at home.
The mom is a fantastic chef together with the two girls helping her (she makes the best pastries and sweets ever!), and JB made us always comfortable and has a great sense of humor. Also the accommodation is beautiful and super clean.
100% recommended for going here, would not have wanted it otherwise and wish to come back here one day.
