Wonderful location with friendly staff.
Our stay at this charming boutique hotel in Evora was absolutely unforgettable! From the moment we arrived, the hotel manager welcomed us with a warm smile and genuine hospitality, making us feel instantly at home. The hotel itself is unique, with only seven rooms, creating a cozy, intimate atmosphere that’s hard to find elsewhere. On our first day, the manager went above and beyond by personally showing us the nearby parking area, which made things so convenient. Every time we entered the hotel, we were greeted with a friendly smile that truly added to the experience. The breakfast dining room was beautiful, and the breakfast each morning was delicious, offering the perfect start to our day. Overall, our stay was exceptional. The personal touch and outstanding hospitality made this a trip to remember. I’d highly recommend this gem to anyone visiting Evora!
We had a wonderful time. Our host was gracious. The hotel was close to everything food, sightseeing and shops. Our room was small but quiet. We really enjoyed our stayed.
The property is very nice, quite and just in the middle of the old town. About getting there. In a day before arrival we received an email with driving instructions. The instructions were providing a destination point in the city after which we had to reprogram our GPS to the hotel parking. Knowing that reprogramming the GPS on the go in an unknown place can be stressful, we parked our car on a huge unpaved parking lot outside the city walls and using the GPS walked to the hotel parking. It is a short walk, everything is close in that city. After that we returned back and drove there with confidence. The parking is underground, it is spacious and have few levels. The hotel has parking spots on the first, second and third levels. The hotel itself is one block away from the parking, very close (about 80 meters). It is in an old long building with multiple shops on the first floor. The hotel door is between the shops and can be easily missed. I would not recommend driving directly to the hotel as it might be challenging. The city itself is nice, there are multiple restaurants close to the hotel. From our point of view one day is enough for the city.
Small boutique hotel in the heart of Evora. Only issue was it was it is difficult to navigate the city streets to find the parking lot but otherwise a great stay!
We enjoyed our stay at Valeriana in Evora. The hotel is a converted Pharmacy that kept the history and charm but completely restored. We enjoyed the location and our host was so helpful. He steered us to the best restaurants The parking was a little challenging. But we did have parking so happy about that.
The Valeriana is just beautiful. The host was incredibly friendly and the boxed breakfasts were delightful and HUGE. I took most of it as a snack for the day. I loved the boutique feel and history of the hotel.
This property is in the middle of the old town of Avora. To reach the hotel one must either find the hotels underground parking or park outside the city center and take a bus or walk to the hotel. The area is very interesting and includes some wonderful old buildings. The hotel desk is Manned most of the time but may not be available for those looking for early check-in or who might be arriving late. The host hotel staff, we’re very helpful ,if one is using the hotel parking one will find it very difficult to find the location. Like most parking in Portugal one will find the parking garage very tight, especially for a larger car. We loved the very generous box breakfast that was included with our stay. We had plenty of pastries to get us well into the day. If one has difficulty with stairs, one might find this treck up and down to your room difficult. Don’t miss a visit to the castle. It’s one of the best sites of our entire trip to Portugal.
Our rental car broke down just outside Évora, and the rental company arranged for a taxi to take us all the way back to Lisbon to get a replacement. It was late in the day, and we were completely exhausted, even considering canceling our reservation and staying in Lisbon. I’m so glad we didn’t! Valeriana Exclusive Guesthouse is a wonderfully restored gem located next to Praça do Giraldo, Évora’s main square. Dário Leirão, the General Manager, was exceptional. After we informed him of our misfortune and uncertain arrival time, he reassured us not to worry. We arrived just as he was finishing his day, and his natural warmth immediately melted away our stress. He made sure we were settled in before heading home. Several great restaurants are within walking distance, and Dário’s recommendations were spot on, thanks to his personal experiences with many of them.
Dario was an excellent host
This was a lovely inn. The staff were exceptional and the breakfast was amazing. They also had a fun little honour bar that we took advantage of. Would definitely recommend this place to others!
Great staff nice place
The staff was very nice. We enjoyed the convenience. They also provided free parking which was not something we have seen much in Portugal.
It was historic and fun. Dario was extremely helpful, especially with our bags and helping us find the garage to park our car. The room was nice and clean. I’d stay there again for sure
L’endroit est si bien situé au cœur du quartier historique . Notre hôte était exceptionnel dès l’arrivée , et nous avons eu la chance de profiter d’un petit déjeuner tranquille dans la magnifique salle à manger en écoutant du fado .
Stopped in Évora en route from Porto to Algarve. Valeriana is not your average hotel. It’s quirky, different and charming decorated with objects from its former use as a pharmacy. Staff were extremely helpful. Breakfast was wonderful. A few stairs to navigate (no elevator). Good restaurant choices in the area.
Property and staff top notch. Only complaint would be finding the parking garage in this walled city. GPS doesn’t always work and directions confusing.
I don’t recommend. Booked it and the forced me to pay 30 euro for an extra roll away bed, even though it says free extra roll away beds on Expedia. After showing them proof, he said they have no control over what Expedia says which is not true. Parking was difficult to find. Basically had to move a road barrier/traffic sign to go down the street necessary to make it to the parking garage. Google maps actually brings you very close but the road is closed but you just move the sign and go through. Reception was not there when we arrived, even after checking time. Had to wait half an hour to even get in the room. I hope the 30 euro was worth the negative review!
The inside of this building is beautiful, clean and in great shape. The terrace offers a nice view and pleasant place for evening drinks. It is located within easy walking distance of the Praça do Giraldo, the Templano Romano, the Cathedral, and the Chapel of Bones. Both of the clerks, Jose and (Dario?), were super friendly and helpful. Parking was a little confusing, but so much better than street parking!
Lovely welcome and a central location to the central square. Free parking nearby was a bonus. Check in friendly and the room was very clean. I found the bed very hard and struggled to sleep very well, added with a very noise disco nearby and lots of drunken noisy people leaving and hanging around outside (guest house is right in the centre). This went on until 3am, so not the best nights sleep. Breakfast was in a box with lots of choice etc. The location is excellent and the staff were very friendly. If not for the hard mattress and late night noise it would have been a 5/5.
This is such an amazing place. A little hidden corner just off the main square in Evora, through a non-descript door, and c up a flight of marble stairs to a wonderfully decorated townhouse with three floors. The house was originally owned by two chemists, and many of their equipment has been polished and restored and placed around main living areas. The themes throughout is based on this, with rooms labelled with names such as Magnesio do Sulfata. Our bedroom was small, but had the advantage of looking out over the rear of the property and not on the main street. It was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. Much of the charm of the guesthouse is that a of their staff – Dario and Jose – who made our stay so much more pleasant with their helpfulness and willingness, always with a smile. Breakfast is served in the dining room, with a large box full of everything you might need for a continental breakfast and all very delicious. Upstairs on the top floor there is a sitting room which opens onto a wide outdoor terrace – perfect to catch the last rays of sun with a glass of wine. There’s even a fridge for such things, and an honesty box for payment. Évora is a wonderful city, and Valeriana guesthouse is definitely a contributory factor. So go - it’s delightful.
Everything was absolutely wonderful!!
Great location and front desk was really helpful. Free parking that is 5 min walk from hotel. I'd stay here again, room was small, but clean.
This was the perfect place to stay for our two night trip to Evora. We booked the deluxe junior suite (room #1) and it was a spacious, well appointed room on the main floor right near the reception area. with no more additional steps to climb. The guesthouse is centrally located directly on the main avenue in Evora, just off the main square allowing us to easily walk to sites and restaurants. The reception and breakfast rooms are beautifully decorated. Breakfast consists of a freshly made and delivered (each morning) catering box, with meat, cheese, fresh bread, granola, fruit and pastel de nota. Coffee, tea, juices and yogurt were also available. Despite this not being a made to order breakfast, we found it to be fresh, delicious and plenty of food to get our day started each morning. Whatever was left from your box was yours to take with you. The staff at the guesthouse were professional, friendly and happy to make recommendations, help with a taxi or answer questions. Our room, the deluxe junior suite was spacious with ample storage, closets, seating and a comfortable bed. The bathroom was large, clean and well appointed. Look no further, this is the place to stay in Evora! Highly recommended!
The staff was extremely helpful and polite. We had problems finding the parking garage but once we found it, it was very easy to get in and out. We did not have to pay for parking. The breakfast was fabulous. The home was an excellent shape and I would most definitely recommend to all of my friends.
I spent 2 nights at the Valeriana Exclusive Guesthouse in mid-April and was very impressed with its exceptionally helpful staff. The breakfast included a box with a satisfying array of options and excellent coffee, served in a very pleasant room. A few very minor tweaks might make a stay a tiny bit more comfortable (e.g., providing a place to hang long items), but overall, my room was comfortable and the location was superb.
This boutique hotel was very nice . If you stay in the first floor you might listen to some noise from the people walking to bars and restaurants . I will definitely come back . Parking was a plus .
Lovely accommodations and great staff. They had parking available which was a great asset. I did have trouble with directions from the parking garage as the street listed as your reference point was recessed and the street sign was not visible. Parking was very close to the guesthouse (about a block). Great breakfast.
Our room has little private patio
The hotel is beautiful, very clean, with fantastic staff. I would only say the rooms are very small and the private patio is also tiny and covered so doesn't really feel like an outdoor space. I guess its good for the rain but didn't feel like outdoors. Other than that, its a beautiful hotel with wonderful service. Next time I would get a bigger room.
The location is perfect! We had a junior suite and the team here was super friendly and very accomodating. The room was spacious and plenty of storage. The bathroom was very new and the shower was perfect (even for us tall people). We could have stayed a week and dined on the food and explored every nook and cranny the town has to offer.
Wonderful small and quiet guesthouse right in the heart of Evora. Nice rooms. Good breakfast. Parking nearby.
Loved the breakfast and staff so nice Our room super small but nice rooftop shared area Thing I hated is expedia sends a link for parking which doesn’t work (it is pages long and not clickable) - my friend got it too and another person checking in got it. Therefore we drove to hotel which is not a drivable area - then had to use written instructions which didn’t work well. So if you have a car book through hotel not Expedia - you do not need to drive to hotel, just parking
The best possible location - a stone's throw from Praça do Giraldo, and only a few minutes' walk to every sight & site in Evora! The guesthouse is super charming, and our room was really nicely decorated and comfortable. We had no issues with outside noise as our room was tucked away and had a lovely little balcony, as well. Shower was great and a shout-out for the towel (warming) rack. Who doesn't LOVE a warm towel after their shower!? 😀 Parking is available in a garage just 1 minute away (or a 2-minute walk) from the hotel, which was super convenient and appreciated. Last but not least, the front desk staff (unfortunately, we didn't catch her name) was absolutely LOVELY - her friendliness and recommendations made our stay all the better!
Perfect location
Really nice place to stay.
Great location for exploring Evora Old Town. Restaurants nearby. Excellent service. Remote check-in works well.
Great location within historic Évora. I really appreciated the included parking and the outstanding service from Joanna at reception. The room is small but fine for one night. The boxed breakfast was a lot and I would have preferred to have a buffet where I didn’t feel like I wasted food. Overall, a great stay in Évora with all the sights within walking distance and great dining options.
very nice, clean and centrally located hotel with a rooftop terrace.
Friendly welcome.Stayed for one night but no issues whatsoever. The breakfast was a very pleasant surprise. Unique.
The property is clean and well located within walking distance to all the attractions
Really enjoyed our stay…quiet and peaceful. Excellent breakfast and the attendant was especially nice and welcoming. A true bright spot in the morning.
Great location- able to get to all the sites. super friendly and helpful staff. Tricky driving and parking, but they sent very detailed instructions prior to stay that were helpful. Box breakfast was amazing.
Beautiful room although quite small so not a lot of space for suitcases. The most comfortable bed I think I’ve ever slept on. Very convenient location as it’s in the heart of Evora. The only challenge we had was finding the parking. Due to a road closure, the garage was more challenging to find but it didn’t ruin our stay in any way. Would definitely recommend.
The guesthouse is a beautifully restored house. The staff is very welcoming and helpful. The location is absolutely perfect to see the sites of the city. The bedding, towels, and appointments are superior. At 102 sq.ft, the rooms were barely serviceable. I understand they have larger rooms, and if I was back in town, I would not hesitate to stay in one of them.
Absolutely great stay at this guesthouse. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We arrived early and so we left our luggage at reception. When we returned the lovely staff had already taken our bags up to our room. Rooms are clean and comfortable, and the breakfast box is great value. The rooftop area is perfect for relaxing after a busy day exploring the town. Would highly recommend this accommodation.
The hotel is located in the city center close to everything. It is a big challenge to find the parking that is out of the property. My gps was unable to locate it and I had to leave my car in the street. There was free parking from7:30 pm to 8:30 am. It would be helpful if they had informed me that. Because I kept driving trying to locate the garage. I was only able to find it when I walked. Tricky! Staff was friendly! Room is clean but very small! Big stairs to get upstairs. I tried to call The number provided to get help in locate the garage but nobody answered. I even stopped at the police station asking for help snd they told me good luck because they did not know how to get there. So it was very frustrating driving around trying to locate a parking garage. The hotel should provide a map not the directions sent last minute by email. The directions sent by email does not work with gps.
Location was great.
It’s a super location for exploring Evora. The staff is really nice and willing to assist. The rooms are tiny however. Think inside cabin on a cruise ship. The bed is REALLY uncomfortable. I really turned off that the price increased by over 20 Euros per night when we told them there 2 people staying instead of 1 that the reservation showed. I’ve never heard of that before in a hotel. Additional charge for a 3rd or 4th person but not for a second We chose the breakfast package. They call this a “breakfast box”. It truly is that. But the items are straight from the grocery. 90% bread, a handful of grapes, literally 2 pieces of ham, 2 pieces of cheese and some granola. Totally NOT WORTH IT! Right next door is an excellent cafe with about 4 other choices 2-3 minutes away. Very disappointed in their cheap crappy breakfast offering. Especially for 20 euros each.
Loved the quirky Valeriana guesthouse!! Sept 2023. It was in the center of all sights and restaurants and action! The Valeriana guesthouse has great history and was once a residence.....therefore it had a variety of room accommodations. If there for a very short stay they have small rooms with double or twin beds.....but if longer than 2 nights, I would strongly suggest the rooms for three....even if you are only two persons, as the room size will be much better. It's more $$ but well worth it. We loved the rich designed sitting room/breakfast room. The front desk staff ...Rute...or Dario....are very accommodating. You need to let them know what time you would like to come to the sitting room for breakfast. The best part of this guesthouse is the third floor. There you will find the retro common area and also a large outdoor roof top chillout area. The sunsets are fantastic! There is a little bar fridge and it is stocked with a few beverages for your enjoyment. You have a book there to sign in what you have taken and pay at front desk at end of the stay. (the honour system) We totally picked the best place to stay in Evora. Everything is walkable...easy peasy! Evora has lots to offer without the crowds! We were so glad we made Evora part of our itinerary!
Wonderful location. Very friendly staff
Very good location and friendly staff. Big minus for me the rigid breakfast times either at 8,9 or 10 which you need to decide on the day before, not ideal when on holiday.
A bit hard to find by car but great place to stay!
My family and I really enjoyed our stay at Valeriana Exclusive Guesthouse. The employees were very nice and helpful. The room was clean, very nice and confortable. The breakfast is very good and substantial. It is very well located in the city centre. The roof terrace offers an amazing view of the city. I would definitely recommend this place.
Very convenient for the inner city in Évora. Can walk to all the sites. Comfortable and clean rooms. Towels were soft. There is parking close by in a garage. You get a nice continental breakfast . All the staff we met were very pleasant. We had a nice, private patio to sit out on and there is a large rooftop common patio as well.
Great stay in centre of old town Evora. Hotel is steps away from all the sites. Staff made the arrival easy with precise directions for arrival by car (though a bit of a walk over cobbles if you’re arriving with a heavy bag). Beautiful and quaint boutique hotel. Great breakfast (box), served with personal service.
Room not ready at 3pm check in time. Otherwise very nice.
There is no elevator at this guest house. There are 21 steps to get to reception. There are then another 19 steps which will take you to the next floor where most of the rooms are located. We had booked a king room with a patio, which looked beautiful in the pictures. We were not told at reception that we would be given a different room. I guess they thought we would not notice the difference. So after climbing the 40 steps with all our luggage, we were given a beyond small room which fronted the street. We heard every drunk walking down the street until 2:00 in the morning. Our king bed was 2 twins shoved together, but made up as twin beds. So no king sheets which would have actually connected the beds. The room was so small we had to move a chair, blocking the entry door, so as not to walk into other furniture getting into the bathroom. Another issue was the room key. There is no room key. You open the guest house main door with an 8 digit number and then use that same number again to unlock your room door. Finally, no one is on the property after 8:00pm. You are given a number to call in case of an emergency. We suggest you look elsewhere for accommodations so that you will know what you are reserving and getting. Don't be fooled by the spacious looking rooms. That certainly wasn't our experience.
Excellent location in heart of Evora historic center. The room was very small but the upstairs outdoor balcony was pleasant for sitting in the evening.
Charming guest house in the heart of the city!
This was a small, but clean room. Great location in Evora, but parking is difficult.
4 of us traveling together in Portugal stayed one night (2 rooms) in Evora. The Valerian was a great choice, conveniently located in the core of the town. Loved the rooftop deck! Staff was very friendly and helpful. Wish we could have stayed longer.
The guesthouse is very charming and conveniently located close to the major sites in town. We enjoyed our room, especially the high quality linens and super soft bath towels. The terrace is a lovely spot to enjoy sunset. Staff members were very friendly and informative. I liked the use of electronic codes to access guesthouse entry and rooms. I would absolutely recommend this place!
A bit cramped. Parking was remote...directions were a bit lacking.
This is a fabulous property within the castle walls. The owners have very welcoming and helpful staff. We loved the upstairs rooftop patio and honor system bar and coffee station. The common areas and rooms are beautifully decorated. We would definitely recommend this property and stay here again.
15 minute walk to train station, right in center of old town, awesome staff, great little gem!
This location is amazing and the property is beautiful. Very nice and relaxing place to stay.
Great stay in Évora - really friendly staff and fantastic location with secure parking
Fantastic property!! If you are looking for a place in Evora, this is perfect!
Beautiful place
Location is excellent, right in the centre of the old town, so you can walk to every sights and restaurants. Parking is a little tricky, but check out the website. Rooms are clean and very cute. True king size bed. Renovated facility. Fully electronic. Great helpful staff. Super strong wifi. Good water pressure. Beautiful rooftop patio. **note the guesthouse has a lot of stairs and no elevators. Consider this is you have mobility issues or heavy luggages with you.
So welcoming, so friendly, so helpful. Great central location for exploring the old town on foot.
Wonderful spot. Room was fantastic, clean and comfortable. Right in the center of Evora with all the sights in walking distance. Combined with amazingly friendly staff, free underground parking and a gorgeous roof top seating area, it is the place to stay for your exploration of the area. Extended my stay by an extra night to take in all the sights and enjoy the time away from the hustle ...
Very comfortable stay, in a beautifully renovated town house. Dario was an excellent host who was full of local information. The breakfasts were plentiful and fresh. Very central location by one of the main town squares.
The location of this property was great, however the parking was a bit challenging. When retrieving the car after our stay, the garage opener code is not work. However, the stuff was kind enough to trigger the opener after we went back to the property to request help. The room we stayed in (#7) had a very tricky door as well.
This is located just off the town square. Property is great, room small but a king bed. They do tell you no elevator. There are 20 stairs to reception area. Then another flight to rooms on first floor. The outside patio is another flight up. There is no soap (only gel), conditioner nor lotion. Breakfast was a box with rolls, yogurt, a pastry. Fruit offered were old, brown bananas. Good orange juice, coffee and tea.
Beautiful property. Outstanding location
Car park is hard to find, other than that very good location. Room is small but nice and with its own cute yard. Tea and coffee in the room would have been nice. Quite unusual not to have tea and coffee available…
The hotel was a bit difficult to find if you are driving a car. The garage is separate from the hotel, but the parking is free. The hosts were very kind, helpful and gracious - wonderful proprietors. The room was small, but the breakfast lovely and the overall ambience very nice. The hotel is right in the center of town and you are able to walk to everything.
Loved the location once we got the car parked. The people were extraordinarily helpful and very pleasant. The location was wonderful for touring Evora, the facilities were great. We loved sitting on our little patio having a glass of wine. Even in the rain! We would go back in an instant!
We had a difficult time finding the parking but the staff went above and beyond to navigate us to it! The hotel was perfectly located, close to everything. The hotel was decorated in a charming manner as well. We were very pleasantly surprised by a delicious breakfast, well beyond what is usually served in Europe. We would stay here again should we ever return to Evora!!
This is a unique and beautiful property located within the walls of Evora. Great rooftop deck. The staff is very helpful.
Hotel is close to main square and shopping and dining area. Hotel is new and beautifully designed. No free coffee or tea was available in the morning, and breakfast was offered for an additional €25 for 2 people. Rooftop terrace and lounge was spacious and had nice view.
Great location, walking distance to all sites. Our room was small but has a private patio. There is a terrace and bar in the top floor for guests
Room was unexpectedly small. Comfortable king bed but less than 1 meter (on 2 sides even less than 50 cm) left to the walls. No windows, just a small door to otherwise cute courtyard. Bathroom is for minions. Nice decorations and very clean. Conveniently located in the heart of the old town.
Très bel hôtel beau déjeuner et personnel attentionné
Sweetness all around ❤️
This is a cute little place to be if you are going to Evora. It’s right in the heart of the old city. Walking distance to everything. The staff were friendly and helpful. One of the best places I have stayed. Great for couples.
Overall good hotel with small but neat rooms. Parking was much more complicated than it needed to be for a one night stay.
Perfect location. Rooftop terrace is very nice. Rooms are fine but worn and plumbing is dicey. Staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. Think of it as 3.5-4 star.
Excellent location to the main attractions of Evora. There were a lot of street closures in preparation for a holiday and it was a bit of a challenge to find the property. The hotel had sent me an email via Expedia that I missed reading and it did provide an alternative approach given the road closures. Nice that they provide parking because that could be difficult in Evora. The garage is a bit of a challenge to find, but the woman at check-in walked us over to the garage which was very nice. You make a reservation for breakfast so that they can space people out. They bring in a breakfast box which will feed you for lunch as well! We were just passing thru Evora so only spent the 1 night.
This is a gem of a place in the center of the old city. It is within easy walking distance to all the sights and plenty of good restaurants. The staff and manager Darius were very welcoming and so helpful. The hotel is newly remodeled and beautiful.
Beautifully restored small hotel in the center of old town. Very friendly and helpful front desk personnel. Parking is included but it's a good idea to call and find out location so they can meet you there and let you in.
This place is amazing! Beautifully renovated and close to everything! The staff was very friendly and helpful. We absolutely loved our stay and would highly recommend:)
Lovely one night in Evora.....hotel SO convenient to everything that is Ever - so walkable. Would have spent another night had we not had to move on towards returning to the US
Nice little boutique hotel within the walls of the old city. Room was small but we knew that and were staying only one night. Friendly staff, nice breakfast. Not luxurious but very comfortable for a short stay.
Lovely large room (we had junior suite). Comfortable beds. Lovely house in the historic central area. Breakfast served in a lovely room. Staff(Dario) friendly, helpful and fun to talk to. Very exact information on how to navigate to garage and to house. Drawbacks: parking garage one block away. But you need to use the garage as street parking is not available. No elevator
Loved staying here! Sparkling clean. Awesome breakfast. Walking distance to everything in city center. Dario was super friendly, even gave us recommendations on where to go and where to eat at our next stop. Thanks Dario!
Great location, free parking garage, room was clean and bright and the staff at the desk or on the phone were excellent and friendly . Bonus was the rooftop patio at any hour. Great value and we will come back.
The rooftop patio was a welcome escape, and the whole place was full of character but clean and well maintained. Can’t wait to visit again some day!!
