Fantastic hosts/staff and accomodation. Special mention for the lady who cooked breakfast. She was amazing and so friendly. A real asset to the business. We had the Strelitzia room which came with its own terrace. Perfect for sunbathing and alfresco dining. 5 minute walk from restaurants and bars. Super safe area. After being away from S.A. for 26 years I had forgotten just how friendly durbanites are. Although Umhlanga has grown it still has a beach town vibe and is the perfect place to base your holiday. We stayed for 2 weeks and could easily have done a month. Hopefully next time. Thanks so much guys, we had a great time! Neil and Summer -x-

I recently stayed at Anchor's Rest while my husband was undergoing open-heart surgery at a nearby hospital, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. Cilla and Peter were incredibly hospitable. All the staff were warm, friendly, and always willing to assist—nothing was ever too much trouble for them. The sunrise views from my room, overlooking the pool, were absolutely idyllic and brought me a sense of calm each morning. The location is also excellent—within walking distance to shops and restaurants, and just a quick drive to the beautiful Umhlanga Promenade. The rooms were very comfortable, and I appreciated the convenience of the self‑service bar, which made it easy to enjoy a quiet drink in the inviting communal lounge. The pool area was beautiful and so relaxing. I truly enjoyed my stay and hope to return—with my husband next time

The villa was a perfect place for a break away. Cilla, Marilyn, Peter & their team did everything they could to make our trip great. The rooms are comfortable and beautifully placed around a nice veranda & pool. The breakfast was made to order & was plentiful & fresh. The lounge area was made really nice by the large well equipped bar serving very reasonably priced drinks. The villa is situated within walking distance of restaurants, bars & the beach & an easy Uber ride to Durban. We will return.

We had a great holiday at Anchors Rest. Our room was large and airy with a comfortable bed and we had a spacious bathroom with windows. The best feature which we loved was the verandah that looked onto tropical gardens. It was very peaceful and we enjoyed swimming in the pool. The staff was welcoming; rooms were clean and enjoyed our privacy. I would recommend the place for mature individuals, whether travelling for business or personal reasons. Perfectly placed in Umhlanga and affordable.

The property is conveniently located close to the beach and Umhlanga village. The rooms are big, staff are friendly and the place is well looked after. The owners are very kind too. Overall we really enjoyed our stay.

Had an excellent 3 night stay, I didn't have my car but shops and beaches are within walking distance. Very friendly staff. Will def be back.

I had a wonderful stay at Anchors Rest late last month. It is clean, roomy with an excellent breakfast. I met the owners and their wonderful staff member, all of whom were welcoming. It features only six guest rooms, but is roomy and even has a pool. It was only a five minute walk to restaurants, and a few more to the beach. It is a great example of the uniqueness of bed and breakfast versus a conventional hotel. I will gladly return.

I had a great stay at Anchor Guesthouse! The check-in was quick, efficient, and friendly. The room was clean, spacious, and very comfortable, with good soundproofing. The breakfast was really good! Thank you for the warm welcome and kindness. The location is also great — close to shops, a supermarket, and nice spots for a walk. I definitely recommend this place!

What a delightful, cosy retreat in the heart of Umhlanga! Attractive, well equipped rooms, overlooking a pretty garden and inviting pool. Delicious breakfast and very friendly and helpful staff. On a quiet street, yet only a few minutes' walk to the beach, shops and restaurants. Highly recommend this true gem!

The lovely owners, together with their staff, run a nice little guest house. Rooms are of nice size, clean and tidy. Cozy breakfast and well-stocked honour bar. Excellent location, with walking distance to restaurants, shops and the beach.

I was given a small self catering unit under the garage which I was unaware of when I booked. The unit was dark and dungie and had a very disturbing smell when you entered. The unit also consisted of a bath and no shower. I expected a much better experience considering the price. When I bought this to the management's attention, it seemed they were well aware of it. I would have appreciated a call from the owner regarding my experience, unfortunately that never happened.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying here while we were in town for business. We were greeted warmly by the lovely owner Cilla on the first evening and then every morning by Sandy. We enjoyed our morning chats at breakfast with Sandy. The breakfast spread was superb. The omelletes were out of this world! Best ever! The staff were lovely, the room very comfortable and spacious. It had a fridge which we made use of for snacks. All little details were thought about to make sure that you had everything we needed. There is WI-FI in the rooms as well. We utilized the laundry service, which was great. We stayed in the superior room and loved it. We will be back! Thank you Anchor's Rest team for making our trip comfortable!

We had a one night visit to Anchors Rest Guest house. It was supposed to be 2 nights but due to flight issues it became 1 unfortunately. Cilla was a lovely host and made us very welcome. Our room had all we needed and was very comfortable.

Very clean and lively. Lots of great restaurants and the beach nearby was fantastic. Accommodations are plentiful but prices a bit higher than surrounding areas. Very close to the international airport. The Gateway mall was close by and Uber transportation made getting around quite simple.

Excellent place. Both the owners Cilla and Peter are wonderful people that take care of you from day 1. The room as large and the place was clean.

We were welcomed enthusiastically and offered suggestions for activities and restaurants. Breakfast was delicious. The space was comfortable. We enjoyed conversation with other guests at breakfast. The staff was friendly and helpful.

I booked a one night stay for my parents, it was my mother’s birthday. Before arrival, the host called and checked what their arrival time would be. Upon arrival, my parent’s room was upgraded. They enjoyed their stay - well organised, clean and spacious room, close to the beach and restaurants and a lovely breakfast.

Very cosy place with a beautiful garden. I spent 2 weeks there and felt at home. The staff and the owners are helpful and friendly. I also loved their dogs! The location of this place is perfect. Close to the ocean, shops and restaurants.

What an excellent spot to stay. Local to the town and beach. Staff are great can't do enough for you. Lovely and clean room great showers. Breakfast was amazing what a great buffet followed by cooked breakfast. Will definitely be revisiting. Keep up the great work.

Our best stay in South Africa by far. We stayed for 6 days. So sad to leave. Sandy looked after us and nothing was too much trouble. Our spacious room opened onto a terrace overlooking a beautiful pool and garden area. A great breakfast. Staff were excellent always smiling, in a great leafy quiet residential area and only a 5 minute walk to many shops and restaurants. We will be back when we return to South Africa

Arrived here after a long flight from UK. Property is set in lovely tranquil gardens and is a great place to relax. Our room was very nice. Property is located a short walk from good restaurants and bars. Peter and Cilla were very welcoming. Would highly recommend staying here.

Apart from being allocated the Cheetah room as opposed to the Yellowood room our booking was confirmed for, we were impressed with the quality of accommodation, offering secure parking albeit a little tight, and the location which is well within walking distance of Umhlanga Village. Although we did not take the breakfast option or make use of the pool and bar, we would highly recommend Anchor's Rest as an ideal establishment for a short stay.

Will come back again...very central. Closed to shops n beach. ....place was clean n maintained nice...staff were friendly n helpfull.

Nice quiet beautiful little guesthouse, perfect for single or couples. A small swimming pool with sun in the afternoon and sunbeds. Very safe area to walk around to restaurants and the beach promenad. The host couple are great!

Obwohl wir zu früh anreisten, wurden wir herzlich begrüsst und empfangen. Das Guesthouse ist ideal gelegen, da man zu Fuss zum Lighthouse, zum Granny Pool sowie ins Zentrum zu den verschiedenen Restaurants gelangt. Sicherheit wird in diesem Quartier sehr gross geschrieben, wir fühlten uns jederzeit sicher.

Excellent guest house close to lots of restaurants and bar. Very friendly hosts, nice room, missed breakfast as we had to leave early but it was a good place and I’m sure it would have been lovely. felt safe, clean and good value.

Peter and Sandy were amazing hosts. Very friendly and welcoming. Felt like staying with (very attentive) friends! A guest house with real charm, character, 1000x better than a soulless chain hotel would have been. I will definitely make Anchors Rest my default place to stay in Umhlanga.
