Ly and her husband are brilliant hosts - so friendly and willing to help with everything. Ly’s English was excellent and she organised a motorbike tour for us at 20minutes notice (which was amazing!). The location of the Homestay is charming, with a view that cannot be beaten. The family dinners each night (with the Happy Water aka rice wine) were delicious and great atmosphere. We really enjoyed the cultural experience Ly organised (when raining) - learning to do beeswax prints and seeing a Hmong traditional house: normally I’m not so keen on these sorts of things, but this one was perfect. Highlight of our holiday!
Nothing - fantastic stay
Absolutely exceptional home stay. Hosts were so helpful and friendly and the view from the room was amazing. Highly recommend doing the motorbike tour, it was a highlight of our 3 weeks in Vietnam. Authentic and culturally immersive stay. Highly recommend!!!

From arriving to leaving, this stay truly felt special. We loved the rural, homely simplicity. The hosts' work ethic and presence was remarkable and they made sure we were taken care of. The home-cooked meals were delicious. The tours were gave us real insight into the nature and Hmong culture in Mu Cang Chai, genuinely meaningful. I sprained my ankle during the stay and the hosts got me medicine that took the pain away, so grateful for that. They also picked us up and dropped us off at the bus without hesitation. And waking up to the rice terrace views every morning was splendid.
Great service, excellent dinners. Lin and her husband were very nice and supportive to us. Would definitely recommend.
Review We absolutely loved our stay at Hello Mu Cang Chai. It’s run by a Hmong family who take care of you from the very beginning and make you feel like part of the family. ❤️ The views over the rice terraces are probably the best in all of Mu Cang Chai. They also rent motorbikes and organise tours, and we did a motorbike tour with them which was beautiful. We got to see amazing landscapes and places we would never have found on our own. The food was homemade, delicious and very generous. They also helped us organise all our transport and even came to pick us up directly from the bus stop, which made everything so easy. A huge thank you to Ly, De and the whole family for taking such good care of us and making us feel at home. 🥰 We would definitely recommend staying here if you visit Mu Cang Chai!
Hello Mu Cang Chai Homestay & Tours is extraordinary well located, in the middle of the rice fields. It is run by an extraordinary active, competent and nice woman. She was extremely helpful and provided us the best advice we could expect.

????
Amazing place and amazing hosts! The food was great, as well as the views and the services offered by the owners. Would definitely come back
Ti fanno sentire a casa!
The location is superb, isolated and quiet on its own little hill. Our hosts were great and helped with everything from a trekking guide to a taxi onwards to Sapa. And the food was better that we had hoped after reading all the rave reviews. 8 different dishes each evening, all home cooked and all superb. Clean plates every evening. We had bungalow 8 which was spacious and had a good view from our terrace.
The mattress is pretty hard! We got used to it. It would be great to have some soft chairs somewhere to crash out in. They have a great terrace with stone benches and tables which have a great view, but I would have appreciated something softer too. It was no problem for us but there is a steep 200m walk from the car park to the homestay so be ready for this.
Our stay was excelent. De and Ly were very kind, helpful. They helped us organise private car trip from Hanoi and back. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were great and very tasty. Also trips were great. I would recommend 2-3 nights. Whole region on Mu Chang Chai is amazing and definitely worth the visit. You really get Hmong experience. 😊
You live with locals, as locals. For us it was not the problem, but some may miss the western standard
Arrivée tard le soir à Mu Cang chai, j’appelle personne répond . J’envoie un mail : rien . J’ai donc dû me rabattre sur un autre hotel, sans pouvoir me faire rembourser
Wonderful staff, idyllic environment. The complimentary breakfast is certainly nothing special, but it’s nice that it’s available. I quite enjoyed my dinner, and the setting is spectacular.
Most amazing were our host and hostess. Most helpful, able to communicate well in English, and went out of their way to help us.
Ly Is a perfect host who helped us for every request! The activities have been very interesting, we did the motorbike tour and the trekking through the rice fields. The Homestay Is located in a beautiful landscape almost 2 km from the main road where the bus stops but they can easily pick you up whit the motorbikes.
.
Wonderful stay: very nice owners with very high hospitality principles, very tasty food, great view from bungalow, homestay easy to access and with private parking
Nothing
We spent 3 exceptional days at Hello Mu Cang Chai Homestay. Everyone was super welcoming and kind. Our room was very nice, clean and with a great view. The meals were typical and delicious, reflecting the generosity of Ly and her husband (their happy water was delicious!). Ly helped us organize our trips and activities. The full day trekking in the rice fields of La Pan Tan was breathtaking, with a special mention to our two super guides. The batik activity was also great fun. In short, if you were hesitating to go to Hello Mu Cang Chai, go for it! :)
Our stay was too short.
Amazing homestay with an outstanding view on the ricefields everywhere. The family is very kind, smiling and welcoming. They are happy to share about their Hmong life. We really appreciate the full day trekking tour, we recommend it. All the breakfasts and dinners were in a huge portion and very tasty! Thank you again to this adorable family.
Nothing
Sigue siendo totalmente recomendable
This homestay was amazing! Really friendly family. We did the moterbike tour and it was exceptional. Thank you a lot!
This homestay has stunning views of the rice fields and is set in a tranquil, natural environment. It's run by a warm and welcoming local family (and there is also a wonderful, friendly dog), which made our stay especially comfortable and inviting. Our host Ly, her husband De, and the whole family, were friendly and attentive—she arranged a memorable rice planting activity, helped us find a transfer back to Hanoi, and was always ready to assist with anything we needed. The meals were outstanding: hearty, home-cooked, and full of flavor. Keep in mind, it’s a rural homestay: everything is as clean and comfortable as it can be considering the immersion in nature, but don’t expect luxury, and be prepared for a few bugs here and there. A fantastic choice for anyone wanting an authentic experience of Hmong culture and the surrounding landscape. By far, the best part of our 2-weeks trip in Vietnam.
Breakfast and dinner were superb. The bungalows were cosy and the beds were comfortable. Ze and Ly were such good hosts and their children were adorable. We learnt a lot about the Hmong culture during our stay.
Nothing. The stay was amazing.
Very kind and generous hosts, value for money is amazing.
As others have noted as expected the bed was rather firm but as suggested by our hosts we put the doona under us and it was fine. All part of the experience.
We had a large, home cooked breakfast each morning with variations each day. We opted to eat dinner there as well and not only were the portions large and delicious, the hosts interacted with us and introduced us to their ‘happy water’. We had a huge detached bungalow with an ensuite that overlooked the rice terraces. We enjoyed a beer on the verandah each afternoon. I did a half day trek with a guide, Jacob, who spoke excellent English and explained a lot about the local farming and cultural traditions.
The hosts look after you the minute you arrive. They are the nicest people on earth. They speak English, so communication was easy. The dinners were delicious and the Gastfreundschaft was outstanding. The room was spacious with great views of the rice terraces. We experienced a different culture within Vietnam.
It's not that we didn't like it but might just mention you have to walk up a path from the car park. They take your luggage up with a motorbike. It might be a struggle for older people.
Amazing….a beautiful setting and the loveliest family—Ze and Ly and terrific hosts, extremely friendly and kind. The breakfasts and dinners we had were beyond delicious, so many different dishes made with produce they grow on their land, fresh eggs, chicken, pork and beef. The kids also are super sweet and fun, and we loved the dog Mucu. We got to do an all day trek with Ze and Hoa as our guides — incredible!
I had an amazing stay!! The family was super nice and the food was absolutely delicious! The views were beautiful!
Exceptional homestay - the rooms are nice and spacious and have a cute little terrace. The homestay has great views over the rice terraces. The family running the homestay is nothing short of amazing - they are incredibly welcoming and helpful organising treks, activities or transport. The food is mostly homegrown and very delicious. Couldn’t recommend it more!
The host family is very kind.
The host picked us up at 2 am in the night when our bus arrived, which is really great. The view from the bungalows was really nice. We were helped with organizing a driver to Bac Ha.
I don't know it's normal for homestays in North Vietnam, but staying in a room without heating in winter is really uncomfortable. Also the bungalow was not tight, so cold air could come inside. The water during showering was hot only for 10 minutes and then it got cold, the sink outlet let the water flow on the floor which made you stand in water if letting water flow for a longer time. The breakfast was very very basic, on first day a simple pancake and on the other just bread with syrup and fried eggs with soy sauce. Plus coffee, tea and mango. We often read about having dinner with the family when you stay in a homestay, but here it seems it's not part of the concept, we just got our food to eat while the family was eating at other tables and did not pay attention to us. We expected to experience the local culture and get to know the family, but our experience was just a cold place with no comfort. Sad but true.
Very cute and typical property ! Bed is very confortable Hosts are really kind, helpful and joyful !!! (I hope one day I’ll make a trail with you 🙌) The whole journey hanging in the reefs by motorcycle with our guide was really great 👍🏼
The facilities are a bit roots speaking about the shower. As we were staying in a hut 🛖 any kind of bugs food come in (I had to deal with 3 cockroaches 🪳 lol) and it can be a bit cold depending on the weather outside that’s fine by me but that might scare some people (like my Vietnamese girl 🫢) As there is a mosquito curtain you are basically safe to sleep 😴 Also you can make a fire inside the hut on order to stay warm (you don’t need it once you are in the confortable bed sheets) My biggest disappointments : - the towels as they smell really bad and were not really good at their job. - the breakfast was not really a "typical" Hmong one, it was much more like an Occidental one Maybe you can offer an activity regarding cooking breakfast ? ☺️
Such a kind family, went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Home cooked food was delicious. Are able to arrange hiking tours, motorbike tours or rentals. Amazing scenery.
The owners were so full of joy and very welcoming. They helped organize bus tickets and bike rentals, which made it very easy. We were close to town but far enough removed to enjoy the quiet of the mountains. Views are incredible!
Absolutely beautiful picturesque location. Breakfast was decent and we got different dishes each morning. We had a lovely dinner one of the nights made by the Homestay. They picked us up from our night bus. They sorted us out with a scooter.
Communication was done mainly through WhatsApp with someone that wasn’t on site which made things a bit difficult at times. As they are cabins - expect plenty of outdoor visitors. We had a frog in the bathroom, there is a mosquito net over the bed so it’s not a huge deal.
It was really familiar and the hosts were amazing. The rooms were clean and the food delicious
The beds were quite hard
The location and the views there are amazing and so is the couple who run this place. The hosts are truly amazing, kind and warmhearted!
The house itself doesn’t look like the pictures. It is a very old house with all bugs and animals inside the bungalow. The bed was extremely hard, impossible to sleep on. I slept only for 3 hours and left because it was not nice there at all. The price was very high for this type of place. It should cost 200k not 750k. On the pictures the matras looked good but it’s a thick, hard thing that you can’t sleep on. This was the most expensive bungalow I stayed in Vietnam and the worst. I love nature but I don’t want to sleep in a room with it crawling all over me.
Beautiful views, lovely staff
Nothing
Ly an Ze were great hosts. The breakfast and family dinners were wonderful.
Only one style
Nothing special
Exceptional experience with the family.
The view, the host and the home feeling!
The bed was too hard for us.
Great location far from the village of La Pa Tan (that is not very interesting) and easy access to trails you can find on AllTrails. Beautiful view from the kitchen area where we ate dinner and from a common area where you can enjoy a drink watching a beautiful sunset. The couple who runs the home stay are lovely and helpful, they came to pick us up on their bikes with all our bags (interesting ride!) and dropped us off; it would have been an expensive taxi ride; and helped us with the bus - the information on Vexere or 12Go Asia is all wrong trust the locals! And they indulged us with some daily happy water, nice! There was hot water. You have two options for dinner a smaller one at 200k or bigger one at 300k; we went for long hikes every day so enjoyed the large dinner which was indeed big and filling. First day we were brought eggs for breakfast and the next two days we had a choice and had the soup, noodles which we thought better deal (bigger) and a couple of oranges.
This is related to Bungalow one, and I don’t know if the other bungalows are built the same way (I think. Number one and two yes but the others looked newer) - so I am by no means talking about all the bungalows. You can tell they tried to clean the bungalow but it was very windy when we stayed and the bathroom would get lots of dust, branches etc. The shower drain gets very backed up so it gets all in all a little messy because of the rustic design of the bathroom. We understand we stayed in a traditional home stay (we have stayed in many in the four months we ve been travelling) but never had that many bugs/insects - all kinds you can imagine - and the mosquito net didn’t work for these and had some visitors over night; tip: we tucked the net under the mattress and worked better! (The wooden panels / beams can welcome these small outside guests :)!) We have stayed on very hard mattresses but this one in the top, it s a thin futon on a wooden bed. Finally bear in mind that although you are far from the village and feel in the middle of nowhere which is nice, you can hear the trucks and traffic honking from very early morning because of one heavily trafficked local road.
Beautiful views. The family was kind and made an amazing dinner and the breakfast was basic but nice. The accommodation is very much connected to nature.
I couldn't get breakfast around 9:40 before I checked out as no one was around. There is a very steep slope up to the homestay. So it can be a tough to carry your luggage to and from the parking area. The bed was very hard for me.
We loved the location on top of a hill in the middle of the paddy fields. The hosts, Ly and Dze, are very warm and welcoming people, and the food is fabulous, for vegetarians as well. Lovely place.
We spent 3 amazing days in Hello Homestay and loved the hospitality of owners, delicious food (fully recommending dinner with happy water) and view from the hut. We also took motorbike tour and hiking half-day tour, both met our expectations.
Wonderful location and great hosts - really enjoyed the stay and lovely motorbike drive in. Great food too.
Not a fan of Vietnamese coffee for breakfast! :)
The staff was great and very helpful. They speak English so everything is easier. They organized us two tours with a guide that also speaks English. Price performance is great at this homestay, dinners were delicious, we definitely recommend it!
THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE! 20/10 Staying here was my best experience in Vietnam. The hosts are extraordinary people and their kindness is second to none... The owner makes the meals and I have never eaten so well. If you want to be in an authentic, comfortable place, with a breathtaking view, this is it. To top it all off, they speak English.... they're people who built everything themselves and you can chat with them ... they're EXTREMELY warm and welcoming. They take care of everything. You're really in the heart. I've only seen that here in Vietnam. It's with a heart full of emotion that I remember What's more, the staff are very accommodating. They do everything to make you feel good. The icing on the cake: no tourists, the most magnificent area for rice paddies. It's a haven of peace.
Nothing - Everything was perfect... like a dream
Beautiful position on the top of a hill overlooking the rice fields. The host is great, she told us about the traditions and history of her community plus she’s great at cooking and very funny! During the family dinner she dedicated some time to chat with every single table, which I appreciate. Very helpful that’s she could actually communicate in English
Wow!!! What a beautiful place is this. The bungalows are placed around the hill with all of them a special extra. The rooms are basic and simple, but what we needed was there and it was clean. Who needs anything more with a view like this. We where amazed by it and decided to stay another night. The owners are some special people, who are friendly, kind, warm and open. Learned us a lot about there culture and the food was great! We did a trekking, about 8km from there homestay and I would recommend this. Only nice views and sights! We loved this place!
The road to the house is not for (western people) on motorbikes. ;) :) We walked it and it is absolutely no problem. It makes the bungalows less easy to reach and for that more private! Perfect!!!
The location of homestay is really great! Few kilometres from Nga Ba Kim and stuff will pick up you in the city and help you with bags. Homestay is in the middle of rice fields and morning views are just amazing. We have the best sleeping in this homestay.
The food was very good, price was also good. The host was very friendly, likes to chit-chat with guests.Would Highly recommend this place.
Nothing.
Beautiful location.
The owners (Dê and his wife Ly) were so friendly and accommodating to us. The room has amazing view and the food was great. Overall we had a great time and would definitely return and recommend this place to others.
Good location and view, very nice staff
Literally the best stay in Mu cang chai! Family run - with such a loving vibe. We wished we could stay longer here, and truly experience all that the homestay had to offer. The food was incredible - both breakfast and dinner. The views, the warm blankets. and the rice wine were amazing!!
Just wish we had more time to explore, and experience the homestay!
Wonderful place and wonderful people!Absolutely amazing location and incredible owners.Fed us like kings, always with a smile and genuine intent to help. This is the place to stay at the Mu Cang Chai area! Would choose to sleep there over and over again.

Kind and english speaking owners, they helped us with transport from the bus and made us breakfast and dinner. Great view! We had really amazing time with local people drinking „happy water” ;)
Everything about the stay was ideal: the owner couple made sure everyone felt welcome and at home. The food is amazing, the view is amazing. Nothing was at fault. Waking up the the green rice fields before the harvest season was a sight to behold. If you want to see more, reach out to them to organise a full day motorbike tour around the hills.
As it may be slightly out of town, best to inform them about your expected arrival and they will organise a motorbike pickup at the sleeper bus/limo bus drop off at Nga Ba Kim. Make sure to stop at Nga Ba Kim.
The location of the Homestay is amazing and the host are very welcoming
The location and the views are absolutely stunning.
No one could speak English on arrival, no bottled water or soft drinks after a 4 hour motorcycle ride to get there! No tea/coffee in the rooms.
