Provider-sourced guest reviews.
It was near downtown Iowa City, making it easy to get to Kinnick Stadium. The breakfast was better than most free breakfast offered at motels.
The price was ridiculously high! (Due to the home Iowa football game.) The room was extremely small. It was hard for all of us to even move around the room at the same time. There was water leaking from somewhere, making the carpet wet throughout our stay. I reported it, but they did not do anything about it. The parking lot was difficult. There were all 90* turns and tight maneuvering into the parking spots.
Location
Ac in our room didn’t work. Had to Move rooms. Parking in a cave was an adventure
Staff, comfort
The hotel room was great. The bed was really comfortable and there was plenty of room.
The parking garage is hard to locate. It's located on a dead end and there is construction. You can't just drive in the garage. There is a garage door that had to be opened.
Modern and centrally located. Free parking across the street with a ChargePoint charger for our EV..
location! Staff! Matt, Ashleigh and Matt are the best! Always welcoming and friendly- they go above and beyond!
there’s nothing not to like the only concern we had is our door room 809 was hard to close and open.
Super clean room and the staff was friendly. They communicated clearly about where to park.
The elevator was a little sketchy.
The breakfast and the location were fine.
The only thing that could have been better is if you had had a whirlpool in addition to the small swimming pool.
Clean and comfortable
Liked everything
The location was great. The view from the suite had a lovely view. The staff was really social and helpful. Was also really affordable. Check out was a breeze.
Arrogance Is their rule. Everybody from the check-in tò the check out. The hyatts are going down, but they dont care being billionairs. May be a bit of training tò the staff would be great
Location , cleanliness
I paid for parking but my car got towed overnight. The property had no idea which company towed ur the car was just missing. They did try to help me find it but I found it by my cars location . Apparently even though there are signs for Hyatt you have to park at the purple door and even though you give them your license plate the car can still get towed. Turned a reasonably priced trip into a nightmare . Had to pay for uber to the tow lot and tow fee plus of course the frustration in losing my car. Not worth it !!
Location Comfortable bedding
Car got towed parked where they had signs for the Hyatt but didn’t park by the purple door. Paid for parking with the hotel and gave them my car license info but it didn’t stop the car from being towed. they should take down the Hyatt signs to make the parking situation less confusing. They said this hasn’t happened before but I talked with someone else it happened to. Had to find my car (they had no idea who towed it) get to the car and pay the impound fee
The rooms are clean and the hotel is in the perfect location. Used the hotel parking and it was convenient to go to and from the hotel when we needed to go places we couldn’t walk to.
Very nice great location
Parking on site was full had a park 1 block away but not too bad
Upon arrival we were greeted, the staff took time to chat with us and explained the layout of the hotel in great detail. We also really enjoyed the aesthetics of the room itself and how clean it was.
We found blood stains on one of the covers, we didn’t get a chance to bring it up to staff as we were out all night and actually had to head home for an emergency. But we know if we had brought it up, they would have been more than accommodating!
That it was close to everything. Very clean.
The entrance because of construction. The a/c in the room was out the first night and day they moved us to another room.
The breakfast was great, nice it opened at 6:30.
No complaints
Friendly staff, clean rooms but lacked a little attention to details. Had a poorly functioning shower head, leftover soap bar in the shower and an obvious white towel on the floor as we first walked in.
The room was fine, it's size was good and it was bright. The bed was comfortable. The air conditioning was more then up to the task and kept the room a good temperature. The location was good, close to campus (University of Iowa) and close to a ton of bars and restaurants.
We were on the fifth floor and we felt like we were in a bunker. The hall was narrow, very sterile. The hall hadn't been vacuumed in a while and there were dust bunnies on the lower baseboard. The real big negative for us was when we returned to our room from being out all day Saturday, moving our grand daughter into the U of I, our room door was open and our personal property exposed to whoever. I called the front desk and they said they'd make a note. Cleaning staff left kleenexes on the bath room floor and the soap dispenser in the shower was empty. At morning breakast the occasional staff had a hard time keeping up with food use. Food stations would be empty and it took an extended time to get replacements. It seemed like they were trying to run the hotel on a limited staff and staff were struggling. There are too many hotel options in Iowa city we will not return to this Hyatt Place again.
Facilities were ok- common areas were well maintained but my room had lumpy carpet that needed to be replaced.
Parking garage was full so I had to walk in the rain for 4 blocks at night by myself. Parking is a basic expectation for a hotel in a car-dependent location like Iowa City. The property needs to secure more spots in the shared garage. The staff was not helpful. I will not stay at this property again.
The food was cold and the staff you could tell did not want to be bothered
At check in the guy behind the counter could not even take the time to take out his ear buds so he could hear us
Easy access to restaurants downtown.
Room was smaller than expected for three persons.
Overall great experience. Not enough parking for hotel guests so I parked in a lot a block away, but not a big deal.
The parking situation
Beautiful, quiet, modern, clean
Parking was a block away, price was higher than expected for the area
Great location! Clean and well maintained
Parking garage
Stayed at the Hyatt to be close to Iowa University hospital to visit my brother having surgery. Other than the odd parking garage arrangement the location and stay was just what I needed. The staff was very helpful with directions to important things like gas and somewhere reasonable and close to eat. The room on the 9th floor had a wonderful view of the city and was relaxing to watch the sunset over the city at the end of a stressful visit.
I had a wonderful stay at the Hyatt Place Iowa City Downtown. The room was spacious and spotless, and the breakfast hit the spot every morning. But the real standout here is the staff — they were absolutely delightful from check-in to check-out. A special shoutout to Merrick, who helped me sort out an issue with points posting to my World of Hyatt account. It was a minor hiccup, but she handled it quickly and professionally, and with a good attitude. Britney, the manager, went above and beyond by providing 1,000 additional points for the inconvenience — a gesture that absolutely wasn’t necessary but was very much appreciated. The whole team here is truly amazing. Highly recommend if you’re staying in downtown Iowa City.
Updated decor
My shower had hair in it. The bed was okay, seemed uncomfortably worn.
We had a great stay!!
I don't have any complaints.
The room was clean, the location was good, and the price was a bit lower than other hotels downtown. The staff were friendly and tried to be accommodating.
We arrived at 10 pm tired and parked in the garage- upon checking in, we were told the garage was full and we’d need to move our car. That was annoying. The TV in our room didn’t work properly. We were offered another room- but we’re already in pajamas and in bed so declined. The breakfast offerings were ok.
Clean and contemporary
Under staffed—on persons running the bar, food and desk
Nice desk person
Breakfast, parking
It was close to the clinics and hospital
It had a weird smell everywhere except in the room
Good breakfast in the morning. Easily accommodated 3 adults and 2 teenagers in one room.
The parking garage was full, so we had to park in a different garage about 2 blocks away and then walk. The bonus though was that the further garage was free, whereas we would have had to pay to park at the hotel garage.
Ashleigh on the second floor buffet was an incredible, hard worker! Super friendly, super helpful, very accommodating and hard-working!
Room was comfortable
Parking, lack of place to park to check in, mattresses, lack of place to hang clothes while in shower
The breakfast was good.
I almost liked everything. It was clean, the staff was nice, the location was close to every place I had to go.
The only reason it didn't get a 10 was because the hotel didn't replenish anything. They didn't replace tissue or towels. They said they ran out of washcloths. The other thing is I had to pay for parking. I feel it should have been free for guest
Clean room. Friendly staff.
Getting charged for parking in the hotel's garage. Wasn't disclosed until the final bill. Manager was unavailable to discuss. Probably won't use this hotel again over it.
Awesome stay
Cell phone reception
Hotel site said they have on-site parking and was why I booked this location. I arrived at night and was told I had to park a block and a half away because their other lot was full. There were police in the vicinity addressing men stumbling over and sirens heard nearby. It didn’t seem safe to walk that distance and the street lighting was very poor! Let alone, the parking was a separate fee. This is unacceptable for any guest, but especially for women traveling alone.
The staff is very friendly.
The refrigerator makes noisy. The fan in the bathroom is on all day long and makes noisy too. The making-ice machine was really really loud one night.
We were looking for a place near I-80 as we were on a long drive, but this seemed like the best option and was only a few minutes off the highway. Dead quiet, clean, good breakfast.
Parking is available for a fee, which seems unusual to me for a hotel in this part of the country. We found free street parking overnight anyway.
Friendly staff, spacious clean and quiet room, good breakfast. We would stay here again. It was walking distance to the pedestrian mall, and many other shops and restaurants too.
I like the Hyatt place in general to go with the family because all rooms are spacious and the breakfast is included. This one in particular is slightly below average compared with other Hyatt Place. The corridors were quite dirty (the room was fine), and breakfast was more basic than in other hotels of the same chain I have stayed. For example, the Hyatt Place in Schaumburg is cleaner and has a better breakfast than this one in Iowa City. The location is very convenient. There is a good restaurant in the same building: 401 Oak.
When staying at a hotel, at a minimum a clean room and sheets is desired. The sheets were stained and bedding dirty. We checked out a night early, but still had to pay. Very much a dissapointment compared to how great the hotel looked online.
Comfort, cleanliness & proximity to freeway.
How close it is to everything.
There was hair in the shower still when I arrived.
Location
3rd party billing was a hassle at check in. Noisy bathroom fan.
Very pleasant stay, and an amazing breakfast spread! Everything exceeded my expectations, from staff friendliness, amenities, complimentary breakfast, and cleanliness.
Great
Nothing
The breakfast wasn’t very good tasting. Good variety but the eggs didn’t taste good.
The breakfast buffet was well stocked and good.
La chambre est lumineuse et immense C'est très bien placé Il y a un parking accessible Le personnel adorable et efficace

Nice Hotel.nice Persons
Everything was great!
I can’t think of anything!
It was neat
Park I was too long
the breakfast and rooms were amazing!
we had to park in the parking garage a block away from the hotel
Breakfast was good.
Everything was fine and as expected. Breakfast was better than at most places that serve a free breakfast.
Paying for parking
I came here to visit family. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great. The room was clean. We even had someone come in and clean while we stayed.
The room they initially gave me was the 10th floor corner room with a great view; however, when we checked the wardrobe, there was what appeared to be used men's underwear and clothes bunched at the bottom. I was told multiple times but multiple staff that I would be compensated; however, there was no follow through.
Location and breakfast
Needs updating for the price! Place looks a little tired in many of the rooms.
Staff was so helpful to suggest a movie in the park upon my arrival. It was wonderful.. clean room/ comfy bed. BREAKFAST had awesome crispy bacon
Location and front desk staff were excellent.
Toilet was still very dirty / soiled on arrival and no staff to clean it so we had to clean it ourselves. Coffee cup was still dirty on arrival.
Always a pleasant experience. Hotel is clean and up to date. Breakfast is good. We like the tall ceilings in the rooms and extra space.
Cama e lençóis bons, localização boa, garagem paga a parte, mas disponível.
Chuveiro fraco
Iowa City Though I was at a motel 6 off the highway in the middle of the Nevada desert. Your interior needs an upgrade Never again
How smooth of a process everything was. Straightforward and just a great experience for my stay.

Nice hotel.
There should be on-site parking for all of Hyatt guests. We had to walk 2 blocks from the hotel, late at night, with all of our luggage to another parking garage that is not the Hyatt, and would charge us if we were not out of their garage by 8am. This is what the Hyatt front desk gave us for the option of parking.
The pool was clean stoked with towels, a shower, and a nice bathroom. The breakfast was amazing and fully stocked.
nada todo super mal cuarto apestoso segundo dia nadie limpio no cambiaron tuayas un ascoooo
The staff was very friendly and accommodating during a very busy graduation weekend! They were able to get us into our rooms a little early so we could change before my daughter's ceremony. We also love that our cars were safely tucked away in the garage area during the stormy night.
Great hotel with a great location. Friendly staff, clean rooms, and a great complimentary breakfast! It has everything you're looking for in an Iowa City hotel!
Location. Friendly staff. Good breakfast
Parking structure under building on the dark side.
Wasn’t able to enjoy due to our schedule
Everyone was very welcoming and the place was clean and very well kept. The breakfast was awesome as well!!
So our air unit in 1219 was very loud. I don’t know if that is normal but maybe check out the filter. I didn’t want to give a bad score due to possible mechanical issues, bc everything was great besides waking up every time it kicked on
Decent sized rooms
No sink in the bathroom. It was in the bedroom. Very inconvenient. Housekeeping didnt remove trash from bathroom. Breakfast was below average. Rubbery, inedible eggs. Coffee was so diluted and left a terrible taste in your mouth.
The front desk girls were so friendly and helpful. One of them was named Rachel, but I forgot the name of the girl when I checked out. Both of them had wonderful people skills. The breakfast had a great variety of food. The location is wonderful.
It would be nice to be able to park in the lot before checking in, but I realize that is tricky for the hotel since access is very secure and requires a hotel key. Not that big of a deal for me with this trip, but it might be on a day when campus is crowded and street parking is filled.
