Reviewed Sep 16, 2026La casa es maravillosa, realmente una experiencia inolvidable haber podido alojarse ahí. Pero lo mejor es lejos la pareja que nos recibió. Un matrimonio encantador, que hicieron de nuestra experiencia en Kioto un viaje inolvidable. Nos explicaron todo lo que necesitábamos saber para conocer Kioto, nos acogieron e incluso nos llevaron en auto de vuelta a la estación. Estaremos por siempre agradecidos de mamá y papá de compas!!!

Non avevo letto che ci fossero dei gatti in casa e, avendo un po’ paura dei gatti, per me è stato l’unico piccolo inconveniente.

Reviewed Aug 17, 2026L'accueil des hôtes fut chaleureux et vraiment sympathique. Petites attentions. bons conseils et surtout une envie d'échanger et de partager de Mama qui fait plaisir. Les lits superposés pour la chambre de 4 sont plutôt bons. Le petit dej parfait avec en prime une serviabilité en termes de voiture, parapluie,... Des petits plus bien plaisants. On avait failli annuler par fatigue, on ne regrette pas d'avoir partagé ce moment chez eux.
La maison est un peu ancienne, et dans son agencement aussi, avec une douche accessible seulement par le salon commun. Au réveil le matin c'est un peu délicat. Mais sinon en mode auberge de jeunesse, ce fut une agréable séjour.

Reviewed Aug 3, 2026This is a real japanese ninja house with a beautiful garden and always clean and so sweet. The ambience feels like a fantasy book. The place belongs to a very friendly family. when i was leaving, they gifted me a japanese writing art with my name. Breakfast was healthy; proteins, salads, fruits, toasts and chocolate peanuts. And it was served with lots of beautiful plates, beautiful forks. I like the bathroom downstairs that you can fill the cube with hot water and have calm time. The owner family shared their very fun travels with us. i loved that travellers created hostel for travellers:) it means that they exactly know our needs. Very nice japan vibe everywhere in the hostel. I am writing my comment a little late because i had a long asia trip but this was one of my best stays. I would definitely visit again and i recommend here 100% ♡♡♡♡♡

"Mama und Papa Compass" sind unglaublich herzlich und gastfreundlich:-)) Es fühlt sich eher an in einer Familie angekommen zu sein, als in einem Hostel. Der Empfang, die vielen Tipps und Empfehlungen, das Zimmer, die Sauberkeit, der kleine Garten, meinen Namen auf japanisch, geschrieben von "Papa Compass", die Katzen, das gemeinsame Frühstück:-))) Dies ist ein ganz besonderer Ort, danke "Mama und Papa Compass". Ich komme bestimmt wieder:-))

Reviewed May 9, 20261店主人热情友善，每天做的早餐都很精致有营养，我来不及吃时，还会给我带零食在路上吃，很温馨很感动；Mama自己一人帮我把很大的行李箱抬上了二楼，楼梯很窄很陡，真是很辛苦她了 2住宿氛围很棒，应该是日式传统风格的住所，所以也算是用较低的价格体验了日式传统居住风格；早餐时大家会坐在一起吃早餐聊天，真的很愉快 3床的质量很好，不会吱吱呀呀，而且很宽敞，被子很厚很轻，盖着很舒服，我住的那几天天气不太好，外面狂风暴雨，窝在小床上很暖和，感觉很安全
距离主要景点有点远，位置有点偏，但交通方便，坐公交就可到，公交站到Mama的小屋大概5分钟，很快

The female host speaks great English, and the male host is a talented artist. I especially loved the thoughtful card he gave me. Breakfast together in the morning was a highlight, creating a nice chance to chat with other guests. The location is also very convenient, with a good supermarket nearby and easy bus access. If you want to experience Kyoto, this place is a great choice.

特にない。町屋を使用しているため、音がよく響くので、宿泊者どうしの配慮は必要。

The location is convenient, and the house itself is a beautiful, well-kept traditional Japanese home converted into a cozy hostel. Our room for four was comfortable, and the heated mattresses were a lovely touch. But what truly makes this place exceptional are the hosts — Mama and Papa. They are an adorable couple, incredibly warm, welcoming, and attentive. Mama speaks excellent English, making communication effortless, and she was always making sure we were comfortable. Papa was wonderful as well — he even painted our names in Japanese calligraphy and gifted them to us as laminated keepsakes, which we will treasure forever. Breakfast was included and was both wholesome and filling. The common areas are full of charm, with books, decorations, notes from guests around the world, and heartfelt messages that reflect the love and care Mama and Papa put into this place. Their daughter was also very kind. We were traveling with a lot of luggage, and they went out of their way to help us — Papa even offered to drive one of us with the heaviest bags to Kyoto Station at checkout. This is not just a place to stay — it’s an experience filled with kindness and genuine hospitality. Truly unforgettable.

Reviewed Mar 17, 2026Compass旅馆性价比很高，干净，舒适，方便，友好，是我日本行最喜欢的一家旅馆。 老板夫妻特别友好。老板娘在学中文，而且学得很快，交流时很有惊喜。 旅馆本身是很有京都味道的老屋风格，公共区域摆满了书、手作，有各国旅人的留言，特别有故事感，不是那种千篇一律的住宿。还有可爱的猫猫，整个空间很有生活气息。 我住的是四人间，室友们都很nice，睡得很好。窗外还能看到很有老城感的小院和屋顶。 如果你喜欢有人情味、有个性、有温度的住宿，这家真的非常值得。十分推荐。

Reviewed Feb 26, 2026Los anfitriones son dos personas sumamente agradables. Te dan la bienvenida con un obsequio personalizado muy bello. Se esfuerzan por entender y entablar una conversación con personas que no hablamos inglés ni japonés. La habitación compartida es amplia y la cama muy cómoda. El desayuno consiste en te, café, yogurt, tostadas, dulce, manteca, frutas y ensalada.
Me gustó todo. Pero tengan en cuenta que el alojamiento queda en un barrio residencial, un poco alejado de las principales zonas turísticas. De todas maneras hay varias paradas de bus muy cerca.

Reviewed Jan 4, 2026このアットホームな雰囲気はナニモノにも代えがたく、実家に帰って来たような気分になれるお宿です。 鉄道駅からはちょっと遠いですが、バス１本で行けるのは、便利な方だと思います。朝食は7:30からだけど、ぶっちゃけ相談すれば、少しは融通が利きます。銭湯も近くに数軒あるし、食べ物やさんも多いです。２匹の猫も“にゃ～”くらいは言ってくれる、そんな宿です。おすすめですよ。

Not much its a very nice quiet neighborhood with most things done beautifully. I mostly backpacked all through the day and expected to come back to a warm bed which was always there.

개인적으로 집안에 반려 동물 키우는 것을 좋아하지 않으며 숙소에서는 고양이를 격리하여(울타리 기 설치) 키우나 어쩌다 응접실에 왔다갔다 하였음

Reviewed Dec 23, 2025C’est la première fois que je séjourne dans un Guesthouse Japonais, et c’était une expérience juste incroyable pour un voyage solo. Mama et Papa sont si gentils et si adorables. Ils sont vraiment au petit soin. Le lieu est très propre, et le petit déjeuner était excellent. Rien à dire, c’était juste incroyable je recommande fortement ! ✨🙌🏻

The place does have good bust connectivity but the bus services in Kyoto is not the best. The closest metro station is around 14 mins walk. So could become a problem if you have a large luggage with you.
