Kisoji no Yado Iwaya

The staff and the place was amazing. They provided us a transport to an onsen when theirs was not operative and were very kind to make a different western style breakfast. The room was very beautiful with a view of the river. The location is very convenient.

A cute historic inn with a lovely onsen on the top floor. The breakfast was also great and the staff were all wonderful.

The staff here are so kind and accommodating. The breakfast is delicious. We had a better experience here than we did t a 5 star hotel in Hakone. To have this and access to Kiso Fukushima and the Kiso Valley was so great. Thank you so much.

I stayed two nights in the Superior Family room which was marvellous. An enormous space overlooking the river. The top floor onsen and adjoining outdoor bath were special. As a solo guest, I didn't dine in. Staff were so generous with offers to drive me to and from the station although it's only a 10 min walk.

The main toilet 'washlet' function was still broken as I had read in reviews when I booked but there is a second toilet.

Our room was gorgeous! We loved how spacious our room was right by the river. The staff were so accommodating, helpful and kind! We really enjoyed the location and wondering through the streets. Amazing French restaurant just around the corner!

Nous avons adoré ce ryokan avec un Onsen au 4ème étage. La chambre est spacieuse, authentique et bien équipée. Nous étions au bord de la rivière avec le son de l'eau qui coule, ce qui est très agréable pour s'endormir. Le personnel est adorable, souriant et arrangeant. J'ai pu profité d'un massage traditionnel qui était vraiment agréable.

Un posto bellissimo incastonato in un piccolo paesino tra le montagne. Tutto lo staff è assolutamente gentile e disponibile, ci hanno proprio fatti sentire a casa!

The Japanese room was quite traditional and the mats were hard. Facilities quite aged, but that is true for most things in this area.

Amazing staff, nice hot springs, good dinners

We had an amazing stay in our superior family room. Everything was clean and comfortable and an enjoyable and traditional Japanese experience.

This is a very traditional styled Japanese hotel, we stayed in a very traditional room with all the modern amenities and view over the river. The onsen, while simple, was also a pleasure of a long day hiking. .

Without spending a fortune more, this place had nothing I didn’t like about it.

The room is huge with ensuite toilet & bath, river view, and has a traditional Japanese design that evokes a bygone era giving a feeling of nostalgia. The whole property itself has that nostalgic feel with its theme/decors. The location is central for going around town. It is a 12-minute walk to the train station.

The room rate is quite expensive. The kaiseki dinner that we pre-ordered is not as festive as the one I tasted in another property. Also, I advised the hotel staff that my son is allergic to seafood but he can eat fish but they did not serve him the fish sashimi but instead served him mashed avocado as a substitute because they overlooked the statement about the fish. But upon showing my message history to the front desk staff, he was able to ask the kitchen staff to replace the avocado with the fish sashimi that my son preferred. So all went well in the end. Another thing, there was a toilet flush overflow issue on the 1st night we stayed (another room; we booked a different room on the 2nd night as the first room is not available on the 2nd night). The staff responded right away so the toilet problem was fixed within a reasonable time.

We had a spacious room with a river view. We slept on futons. It was wonderful! The onsen was also great. Everything we wanted from a Japanese ryokan.

Sukiyaki, two evenings in a row. It was a little too much unfortunately.

It's dated but sort of perfect! The room was huge and the seating, beautiful tea-set and lovely robes were gorgeous touches. What made it though was the rooftop onsen with both indoor and outdoor baths. So great!

기대를 너무 많이하고 갔었는데.. 나의 예약 실수인지 모르지만 식사가 포함 되어 있지않아서 아주 당황스러웠습니다. 시설도 생각보다 오래되었어요.

It was walking distance to the station so it’s convenient. We also took the family room which was great because we had our own shower and 2 toilets. We were also happy with the kaiseki. As well as the communication with the staff.

The bidets in the toilets didn’t work which was disappointing. The pillows were also bad.

Good food. Outside Onsen. Very comfortable beds. Great location.

通鋪的床墊還是硬梆梆~樓上有大眾池 泡湯舒服，算是中繼站 附近有家鰻魚飯不錯吃~早餐就簡單的日式早餐 晚上周圍粉安靜~對面有洗衣店可以洗衣服(挺方便的)

Very cool traditional Japanese style unit. We enjoyed sitting and listening to the rushing river just outside the window. We enjoyed the top floor indoor/outdoor onsen after a couple long hiking days. Dinner and breakfast were an awesome variety of food and large portions!

The mattresses were a bit thin, especially for my husband who is heavier. But probably should be expected as part of the experience!

The onsen and Japanese breakfast were highlights! We stayed one night and went to the onsen twice. Well worth it. Bit of a walk downhill from the train station but not too bad.

The traditional Japanese beds are very cool but a bit uncomfortable so just know that going in.

Z zewnatrz niestety wyglada jak zwykly nowoczesny budynek, ale w srodku ma niesamowity wystroj! Onsen jest wyposazony w swietne kosmetyki i basen na zewnatrz. Obiad i sniadanie bylo przepyszne!

Mooie ruime kamer met futonbedden en prachtig uitzicht op de Kiso rivier. De publieke baden op het dak waren zeer fijn. Het avondeten en ontbijt waren lekker en verzorgd, maar wat aan de dure kant.

De prijs was wat aan de hoge kant. Het dorp Kiso Fukushima was minder interessant dan gehoopt. We hadden deze locatie geboekt om onze wandeling op de Nakasendotrail af te sluiten, maar het is toch nog 40 minuten met de lokale trein vanuit Nagiso en uiteindelijk is er weinig te zien. Je raakt van hieruit wel vrij vlot met de JR line in Tokyo/Shinjuku. Het personeel spreekt geen Engels.

Os funcionários são super simpáticos e gentis, nos ajudaram bastante. O quarto que fiquei é simplesmente perfeito, foi uma experiência incrível que valeu cada centavo pago! O café da manhã também foi incrível, muito delicioso!! 💕 Muito obrigada por deixarem a viagem a Kiso Fukushima mais perfeita ❤️

We stayed here for one night but could have stayed longer. The room was large and spacious with futon beds, a seating area, table and chairs, tea and coffee. The hotel onsen on the 4th floor was lovely. There are comfortable seating areas and lounges on the ground floor near reception, and also a restaurant for breakfast and evening meals - reservation is required. The location was very central for walking in the old town and to the numerous restaurants nearby. Reception staff were very welcoming and helpful with local advice. We would love to stay here again thank you.

Booked this stay for an onsen experience and on this front it was disappointing - the wood was rotting on the walls in the indoor bath area, and outside was far from relaxing with the constant sounds of diesel generators going.

Beautiful location right next to the river. Onsen has an indoor & outdoor option which looks up to the mountain & stars. Our room was huge & very comfortable. Staff incredibly helpful. 10 minute walk from train station. Amazing full Japanese breakfast!

Sehr authentisches Ryokan. Zimmer groß und toller Blick auf den Fluss. Besonders die Damen im Restaurant waren super lieb und bemüht. Das traditionelle Kaiseki Abendmenü sowie das Frühstück waren ganz toll! Auch das Onsen Bad war sehr erholsam - sogar mit einem kleinen Außenbereich.

Die Matratzen waren verglichen mit anderen Ryokans doch etwas hart bzw. dem Boden nahe :D

Staff was very kind and welcoming. Room was comfortable and breakfast was delicious. The onsen was fantastic after a long day of hiking Nakasendo and they allowed me to use it even though I'm heavily tattooed. I wish I had more time to enjoy it. Coffee was slightly pricey but delicious. Definitely recommend!
