Hôtel des Grandes Ecoles

We enjoyed our stay very much. The staff were very warm and welcoming. The room was small but charming and had china cups and a kettle for making tea or coffee. We were served breakfast promptly and with a smile. The building and grounds are delightful. Staff are on duty 24/7.

Quiet location on quiet street, yet just a two minute walk to Place de la Contrescarpe and Rue Mouffetard. Wonderful staff. An oasis in the Fifth Arrondissement.

Nested in historic vibrant neighborhood, this is one of the most beautiful charming hotels in quiet garden setting. The staff is warm and responsive. Renovations in this historic hotel are exceptional.

Excellent area, lots of food and drinking places. Crepes galore everywhere and very good price too. Metro is a 3 min walk down the road. Breadfast, there is a choice and brought to you on a tray. Very nice.

Very welcoming from the moment we arrived. The room was lovely and breakfast was very good.

Really lovely hotel! It was quiet, clean and the air conditioning worked great. The staff were very polite and friendly as well.

An oasis in Paris in a great location!

Beautiful, quaint, charming within walking distance to grand and awe inspiring. Perfection.

Great stay

Clean, geat location

Staff were very friendly and the area was very safe and quiet. Felt so safe that 24 hour staff were on the premise. Rooms were spacious and cute. Love to return when I am in Paris again!

Beautiful peaceful haven from the Paris hustle and bustle Top location

The Hotel des Grandes Ecoles exceeded my expectations for customer service, quality, an location. I plan on booking this hotel for my next trip to Paris

A perfect place. If you're trying to decide, don't hesitate. You won't be sorry.

Good service and nice courtyard

Super!

This is a wonderful hotel, with beautiful gardens in a peaceful courtyard and a sweet breakfast room. The staff is so nice and go out of their way to address any wishes or concerns you have. Our rooms were spotless and sweet, with views of gardens next door. Like most less expensive Paris hotels, there aren’t extensive amenities in the rooms, and no televisions (thank god!) but ours had hair dryers, modern showers and an electric kettle with packets of tea and instant coffee. The very lovely women who run the kitchen in the morning were so nice — they let me get coffee early in the morning and take it to my room, and when I got a cold one day insisted that I take honey and lemon with me to add to the tea. Really a wonderful experience, I’d go back here any time.

Hemingway fans will delight in the location of this hotel across the street from his first Paris apartment. Enter the cobblestone courtyard through a green gate, but don't let the cat out! My room was quiet, clean and comfortable. There's is no TV but there are books near the breakfast room and an antique bookstore across the street. Lots of museums, dining, shopping and nightlife nearby. The dining room and hotel staff were oustanding. Would stay here again!

This is a charming hotel, a little off the beaten path, which makes it perfect. Walking distance to most everything e.g. Notre Dame, museums, and left bank. This is our second time staying there we absolutely love this place.

I recently stayed at this charming boutique hotel in the heart of the Latin Quarter, and it was an absolute delight. From the moment I arrived, the staff was incredibly warm and welcoming, making me feel right at home. Their hospitality truly added to the experience. The hotel itself is impeccably clean, with well-maintained rooms that blend classic Parisian charm with modern comfort. The attention to detail in the decor creates a cozy yet elegant atmosphere, perfect for a romantic getaway or a solo retreat. Location-wise, it couldn’t be better. Nestled in the lively yet historic Latin Quarter, it’s just a short walk from the Seine, Notre-Dame, and an array of charming cafés and bookstores. Whether you’re looking to explore the city’s cultural gems or simply soak in the ambiance of a quintessential Parisian neighborhood, this hotel is ideally situated. Overall, this boutique hotel is a perfect mix of comfort, charm, and convenience. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable stay in Paris!

Absolutely perfect place to stay in Paris. The location, the people, the local bistros, absolutely fantastic! We look forward to staying with them again.

Professional staff, very safe, central and walkable. Recommend.

We had a great stay at the Grandes Ecoles. The staff were all lovely and helpful and once you entered through the large door it was like going back in time. Very pretty garden area, even in the winter. It was so quiet and quaint. Our room was small and could have used a little updating, but that was part of the charm really. Linens and bed was amazingly comfortable and just looking into the courtyard each morning allowed you to step back in time. It's a great place to stay if you have students studying abroad there in Paris. The nearest square had great little cafes and bistros to eat and trains were a quick walk away to almost anywhere we wanted to go in the city. Highly recommend.

Tucked away in the Latin Quarter, this wonderful hotel made our stay in Paris so comfortable and we loved how convenient it was as well.

The courtyard area is very sweetly Parisian. Staff were kind and helpful, we had a really great stay for our honeymoon and they even gave us a present for my birthday. Highly recommend.

Very cozy pleasing French experience,

Charming hotel. Convenient, very polite staff, clean and comfortable.

Great place

Great location. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Rooms were comfortable.

The courtyard was my favorite part of the hotel. The room and bathrooms were very simple. No counterspace, no tv. There was a desk and a nice window looking down at the courtyard. It was pleasant having breakfast and tea outside.

Wonderful property … the front desk though rotates all the time, and some of the staff are aloof and rather not help , if they can. Others are wonderful though.

This is a wonderful hotel in a great part of Paris. The best thing about it is the lovely courtyard garden which is completely hidden from the street

This beautiful garden hotel is a wonderful place to stay. The staff is very friendly, helpful and gave good advice on local restaurants. Coming back from a day of sightseeing, one enjoys a quiet garden to sit in and unwind, with a glass of wine or fruit infused water. Very good breakfast offered.

Staff were very helpful and friendly

Beautiful hotel. Friendly staff. Great location. Quiet and comfortable.

I booked this hotel for a family holiday. We were delighted to be right in the heart of the Latin Quarter amidst all the best restaurants, bars & shops. The nearest metro station is just a few minutes away and we were able to get around the city very easily. The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful and helped us to book restaurants/ hammams & the like during our visit. The breakfasts at the hotel were delicious, with locally baked breads, pastries, yoghurts & jams. Their hot chocolate is sensational! It was a fantastic trip and we will definitely be staying here again next time we visit Paris.

I like everything about it, its near to different (cuisines) restaurants and cafes. Its clean and comfortable aswell. They didn’t list that they have toiletries but they do provide shower gel, shampoo and conditioners.

Beautiful hotel. I exceptional in every way.

A cute little escape from the hustle and bustle.

I have been coming to this hotel for decades, even before it was the lovely residence it is now, and was more like a boarding house. Hands down, this is our favorite hotel in Paris. For location, charm, helpfulness of the staff, and really good breakfasts, it can't be beat. And that's not even taking account of the delightful garden, which we couldn't really enjoy at Christmas time.

Beautifully tuck away and hidden. Clean and quiet. Friendly helpful staff. Delicious breakfast.

Lovely and quiet little place. Friendly service.

Lovely hotel with garden entryway, in convenient Left Bank location. Very friendly, helpful staff. Tiny, clean rooms. No TV [but who really needs one in Paris?] Lively nearby cafes packed with young Sorbonne students.

Outstanding, exceeded my expectations overall. Charming Parisian classic setting. Will be back...

Great location and charming courtyard garden. My room was small but perfect with two huge windows overlooking the garden

Lovely little hotel in Paris city centre, within walking distance of some of the main attractions, metro stations and restaurants & cafes. Having read in the news about bed bugs, I was quite worried, but our room and bed were so impeccable, any concerns were put to rest as soon as we arrived. Our Classic Double room was on the top floor and had a skylight window, which was nice. Towels clean and in good condition, and the staff were lovely, very welcoming and helpful. The gardens were wonderful even in mid-November, quiet and safe behind two large metal gates. The only complaint I would have is regarding the lift, it seemed like whenever someone was calling the lift (which happened very frequently from about 7-8am), a lot of noise could be heard in the room, troubling for a light sleeper like me (my partner doesn’t have this issue and so he didn’t hear it). Our room was right next to the lift, which was just unfortunate for me personally. I have really enjoyed my stay, and I will be recommending this lovely hotel to others.

Property is surrounded by lots of coffee shops and restaurants. These are not your fancy wancy spots if that’s what you want. These are more laid back down to earth spots. Lots of hole in the wall spots. There is a water fountain in the small square. These are steps outside of hotel. The hotel has a courtyard that is peaceful if you want to grab your coffee and enjoy it privately. The hotel has garage parking that cost 25-35 euros a day. Staff were super friendly. The room I had was just a basic room with no tv and was all that was needed for a quick stay. Fresh towels hot water and comfy bed. That’s all needed with so much to do in Paris and not in the room very much. I would stay again. Thanks

A private square with a garden. You can take breakfast in the garden away from the noise of the city. A little oasis. A short walk to lots of restaurants or to the métro. Great find

It was quaint and staff excellent. Bathrooms need renovation .

A lovely hotel which feels like a country property, but tucked away in the heart of the Latin Quarter. Great transport links and very good dining options nearby. Staff were SO friendly and helpful. Couldn't fault the hotel or the staff. 5 stars!

Very nice courtyard.

Lovely clean quiet hotel in a great location. Wonderful helpful staff. Super cute room with a divine bed.

Loved our stay here! The hotel is really pretty and the courtyard is a lovely place to relax. Staff are really friendly. Room was lovely and clean and comfortable beds. Good location to lots of cafes and bars also.

Excellent location. Beautiful hotel with amazing gardens. We stayed inroom 1 which is not a great room for noise. Courtyard tables right outside our window where guest would come home and sit late in the evening and sit and talk. Also you could hear the noise from the lift in the room. Reception and breakfast also straight across our room.

This is a real gem. We’ll stay here again next time

Stay here…just do it. If you are looking for a small hotel that is quintessentially french in feel, in a brilliant location in the Latin quarter this is an amazing choice. 5 minutes to the train station that gets you easily around Paris, steps from the life of the quarter yet once you walk into the gated gardens to enter the hotel you are transported into an oasis of peaceful bliss. The hotel is old (of course) but that adds to its charm, you are in Paris after all! The staff are absolutely the best, friendly, helpful and most of all kind. If you look for all the amenities and you are a fussy traveller maybe not for you, but if you want to stay in a cozy room that screams Paris with all its charm this is your place. Have breakfast at least once, it’s small but sweet..then check out the LQ and you will find so many choices for food, crazy great location. BTW the train gets you right down the street to and from the airport, one quick transfer, very very easy to use and we are not subway / train users at home, Can’t recommend enough…stay here!

This hotel gives you the feel that you are living like a Parisian! Amazing neighbourhood, and an amazing hotel setting.

A magical one night stay, couldn’t have wished for a more authentic experience in the stunning Latin Qtr. Staff were fantastic.

The receptionists were very easy to talk to and had a mind of great hospitality (seems like they like working there, no wonder): The receptionists kept our luggages two hours before out check-in and four hours after our check-out. They let us rest in their garden even after the check-out and made sure we were comfortable. Without a question, the room we stayed in (in fact all rooms) was very cosy and cute with aesthetic even in detailed parts of the room. The shower/bath was great. One thing, the elevator too ages to arrive to each floor, but it didn’t really matter that much. The cat there was very adorable, and the flowers planted in the corridor/garden were mind-blowingly beautiful.

Such a special refuge. Beautiful!

Not a water bottle bottle , not a fridge , not a coffee maker , not a safe , not a tv , just a haggard old room .

We’ve stayed here before and enjoyed the property and location. It is quiet and the gardens are very pretty. I thought check-in took way too long and the front desk wasn’t warm and welcoming when we had questions. Breakfast was disorganized. I didn’t feel special here.

A gem of a hotel with outstanding service. From the front desk to the the lady who served us breakfast service and friendliness was 10 out of 10. Location was a dream. Perfect for a romantic getaway or, like us, a family trip.

We have been staying here since 1970. Property is always upgradec

Very convenient Lovely atmosphere

This is a very cute little hotel in a perfect spot in the 5th arr. We were in a quiet but lively neighborhood with great restaurants. It was a very manageable walk to the main tourist attractions. Room was a touch small and tight, but it’s Paris and we spent very little time in the room anyway. I’d definitely recommend this hotel given the location.

The staff were so nice! Friendly, efficient, and even gave me a slice of cake for my birthday! It may not look like much from the street, but it’s a treasure behind the green doors! The place is lovely, and is in a great location of the Latin Quarter. Very close to a Metro stop. Lots of good eats in walking distance. We felt totally safe as two female travelers.

I liked the quiet and privacy. The room was beautiful and comfortable. Staff was helpful and kind.

Provided all info we needed at time of strike, good breakfast , wonderful location, helpful

Cleanliness, friendly and convenience

We loved the location. Very quiet, comfortable room but with easy access to dining options and one block from the Metro.

Bad shower, thin scratchy towels.

The staff were fantastic. Very friendly and efficient. The room was excellent, comfortable and spotless. Breakfast was also high quality and abundant.

I love being there and the calm atmosphere it has and the outlook from the room into the courtyard.

Real old world charm to the place with lovely decor and courtyard area. The bed was very comfortable and the room was a really good size for Paris. Would definitely stay again

Completely charming. A modest, traditional set of buildings around a courtyard leading to an old gaden with trees. Very unpretentious; not overly decorated and precious. Authentic, and well priced.

Put do not disturb sign and they knocked anyway. They also took our towels out of the room before we checked out.

I really do my research when booking and amongst other reasons based my stay on the reviews, however it was not what I expected and nothing the hotel could have done. I did actually move hotels for my second night as I needed more modern, more fresh, more luxury. I’ve stayed in 3* many times and one thing I missed was that they didn’t have a tv. Whilst usually that would not be an issue - but it was France vs England World Cup and I could stream couldn’t go out as was with my daughter :( The bathroom was dated, some will say shabby chic but it was rustic to say the least. The l’occtaine toiletries was a nice touch. The towels were tiny and not at all soft or fluffy- just need throwing away. The carpets down to the dining room were stained and it all just felt dirty. The dining room was awkward at best- tiny tables, no room to manoeuvre - lots of people waiting but the breakfast was nice. Nothing the hotel could have done- it is what it is if you like that sort of rustic experience, I will check the amenities more closely next time. The hotel kindly called to ask why I left but as I said to them- it just wasn’t what I expected. It’s in a fabulous area, it’s quiet ( although our room was by the aircon in the hallway and there was a loud sneezer in the next room- but it didn’t disturb us too much.

The garden offers a very quiet and peaceful environment. The staff is extraordinarily friendly. Location wise, it is very convenient. Many restaurants in the area.

Quiet, clean, comfortable and friendly staff. Got to the hotel early and left luggage while we explored Paris. Hotel staff had our luggage put in our room before we returned.

Nice and quiet hotel. Very friendly staff, including the big cat!

Beautiful property, amazing location, comfortable bed, great shower, and nice & helpful staff

Great place

Beautiful place.. great breakfast..

This was our second stay here this year. It’s our favorite place to stay. The staff is wonderful, the rooms are great, and the courtyard is our favorite place to congregate with friends and family. We will be back.

It was a sanctuary in the middle of a big noisy city

Very pleasant and unusual courtyard.

It was totally ‘French’ in character and charming and friendly. Able to speak other languages too.

I am hesitant to leave a review for excellence because I’m afraid this spot will become so popular I won’t be able to stay in the future! Wonderful quaint hotel in the heart of the Latin Quarter, a quiet courtyard provides shelter from the street but there are tons of dining options within steps of the hotel. Felt very Parisian and authentic, just the kind of charming place I’d like to stay every time I visit Paris. Simple, small rooms but everything you need! Staff is very friendly and helpful despite being very busy with lots of guests. Breakfast was fantastic every morning and a highlight of our trip to be so well fed at the start of each day. Bed firm and comfortable, shower hot with good pressure. Minimal noise from the courtyard at night. No AC so be aware for warm months, could be uncomfortable unless you can request a fan. My other suggestion is to ask for an upstairs room since the noise from the kitchen can reach room 5 in the mornings.

Excellent stay! Although there were rave reviews about breakfast, I wasn’t particularly impressed with the tiny portion, Everything else was outstanding. The place, the people and the neighborhood. The parking was icing on the cake. Absolutely recommend

Very friendly helpful staff. All fluent in English. Pleasant setting. Many good places to eat, have coffee near by, or you can eat and drink in the garden. I would return

This property provides a very quiet tranquil relaxing experience in a beautiful courtyard setting.

Everything was perfect, the bed very comfortable and the garden is very enjoyable.

This hotel was well kept, well staffed and well located. There is a metro stop at the end of the block. There are numerous pars, restaurants and tourist attractions very close by. The train that goes directly to Charles De Gaulle is a short (5-10 minute) walk away.

Beautiful hotel and gardens in the Latin quarter. Walking distance to many restaurants and shops. Lovely breakfast in the garden every morning

exquisite, charming, superbly comfortable and friendly.

BEAUTIFUL grounds, wonderful staff, amazing breakfasts, nice big room. Couldn’t ask for more and will always use this hotel when in Paris. Felt like home.

Conveniently located hotel with a pleasant garden and well-kept, if small, rooms overlooking it.

Loved the hotel and location. The staff was incredibly nice and welcoming.

Absolutely beautiful! Perfect place to stay in Paris. The staff is fantastic, the location is walking distance to the Notre Dame as well as really amazing restaurants, and the garden area is just a peaceful separation from the business of the city.
