Lunan House

We had a wonderful stay in such a beautiful location. The property was absolutely stunning — probably the most beautiful place we experienced during our trip to Scotland. It felt like something straight out of a movie! There was a lovely short walk from the property to the sea and the sand dunes, which made the location even more special. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated, with a lovely attention to detail. The bathroom was also very spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent, and our hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming. We truly loved our stay and would happily recommend this place to anyone visiting Scotland.

Beautiful location

Freundlichkeit induzierte viel Freundlichkeit beim Personal, haben sogar Lieblingsweg gezeigt bekommen. Viel gelacht, nette Gäste. Cooles Anwesen. Grandioser Strand. Leckeres Essen, nettes Gästehaus, alles sauber. Sehr gern wieder.

Short walk to Lunan Bay where the beach is outstanding. Hotel staff were very friendly and we got breakfast which we weren’t aware we were getting, a definite bonus. Choice was good and obviously cooked to order. The restaurant beside the hotel was shut however the hotel had a reasonable if small menu for evening meals and the fish and chips were very good. Slight downside the bar had no draft beers.

Disappointed that the cafe at Lunan Bay shut at 3 , thought 5p.m. would have been better, we were sitting outside and quite a few people arrived to find it closed.

Amazing location with beautiful surroundings. Our room was huge with a really nice and big bathroom with a shower and a bathtub. Breakfast was delicious and varied. There was a buffet but you could also order warm things like eggs or pancakes.

The bathroom didn't have a door and breakfast didn't start until 7:30. We were in a rush and it's a shame we weren't able to stay longer.

Loved the location, the grounds were nice to walk through. It was close to the beach, and dog friendly! (Though I didn't have any pets with me, it was nice to see the dogs that were there with their owners. I will add, I couldn't hear any dogs at all during my stay, only saw them in the grounds or walking through the hallway to go outside.) The breakfast was fabulous, and the coffee was good. It was a great value and it's been my favorite stay on my three week trip!

The bathrooms were a little dated and the caulking could use some re-do, but everything worked well. We did have to ask for a second towel and the staff got it right away. (I just thought it was odd that we booked a twin room, specially advertised for two and there was only one towel. But again, the staff were great!

This is a dog friendly hotel right next to an extensive beautiful beach. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast is superb.

The evening meals are served between 5.30 and 7.30pm, but unfortunately the food was disappointing. It’s a shame, as the restaurant is lovely and has great potential. Montrose and Arbroath aren't far too good to eat but you need to drive.

Stunning location, comfy bed and tasty breakfast. Five minute walk to the fantastic beach. Looking forward to our next visit.

We stayed in room 5, I think I paid £7 for the upgrade,the room was fabulous and in the main building. Everything was new in the room and tastefully decorated with everything we needed.The breakfast was included and excellent , all the staff members were very welcoming, cheery and helpful. The beautiful Lunan Bay beach is only a few minutes walk from the hotel and is well worth a visit. Would stay again if in the area!

Front foyer of the hotel is a little outdated and needs a bit of TLC. There is nothing near the hotel except Lunan beach which is fine if you want peace and quiet but if you’re looking for nightlife then you have a fifteen minute drive to either Arbroath or Montrose.

Absolutely loved staying at this beautiful house with its beautiful gardens and close proximity to a wonderful beach. The room was excellent, clean warm and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and always there to help if needed. The food in the restaurant and for breakfast was excellent. We will definitely return in the near future with our pet labrador who loved exploring the wonderful area and loved the pets he received from the wonderful staff...thank you and see yous again very soon ❤️

The staff were friendly and the location is perfect.

Many things! The beds were creaky and the walls thin. We thought we would be in the main house when we booked it but we were in a converted bunkhouse. I could hear the neighbouring room talking and brushing teeth even! We didn’t sleep well one night so we went to have a daytime nap and the cleaner had her young child in so they were running up and down outside our bedroom. It wasn’t very relaxing. Unfortunately we had mouldy bread too.

Loved the location to the beach. Value for money a hidden gem.

There needs to be a fridge in the room. And maybe a couch. But we enjoyed our stay.

This was my second visit. Lunan House is just a lovely place to stay. Great location, beautiful grounds, quiet, clean and excellent value for money. The staff are lovely and helpful. A great night's sleep after cycling up from Dundee

Loved the location! So close to the beach and so out of the way, peace and quiet guaranteed! Staff were very friendly and attentive Breakfast was very good, even tho we only had the continental option, we didn’t feel like having Scottish breakfast, it was still very good Room clean and bed comfy, Nothing I could complain about, really pleased!

We booked breakfast for 9.15 but when we arrived (family of 3) we were told there was no tables available but there was families of two sitting at tables for 4 and there was tables for two empty. Had to then wait 40 minutes to be seated which then meant we didn’t manage to check out by 11am, staff were accommodating with this though. The food was nice and good quality produce but some parts very over cooked

Nous avons adoré notre séjour !! On a eu l'impression d'arriver dans notre manoir, avec son magnifique parc. Notre chambre avait vue sur un champs avec de jolis lapins. À 5min de marche il y avait une très grande plage de sable avec quasiment personne. C'était une magnifique parenthèse dans notre voyage

It was exceptionally clean and was right on the beach. The staff were amazing especially Katie, who was more than happy to help with anything and was always pleasant.

Absolutely loved it. So dog friendly, beautiful grounds, very clean. Staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was great with lots of choice. If you like it quiet and relaxing atmosphere, this is perfect. Great location for the beach, but a short steep climb getting back up. Beautiful area. Will go back but would like to stay in the house rather than the wing next time.

We had booked a twin basic room and it was fine, the only minor niggle was the beds creaked quite a bit on the floor when just moving in the bed.

The room was lovely, very spacious, clean and tidy. There was a young man we spoke to when we first got there, he was lovely and showed us our room. I was surprised with the room with how nice it was, as I've stayed a couple of times before, and the rooms weren't that nice. Breakfast is included in the price which is good value for money. The grounds are lovely, some wear and tear with age, but that's to be expected. Close to the lovely Lunan beach, which is exceptional and a must see.

There were some areas of the hotel which was dark and dingy, old carpets etc. The shower room in the hotel room wasn't the nicest. We got there about 3.30-4pm, went to the beach for a bit after check in, came back for dinner. There was no menu for selection or prices. The young man told us our options. I said, would he like me to pay just now, he said no, I'll just put it on to your room. I didn't know how much it would be, would have been nice to be given the option how you would like to pay and how much. Anyway, got our food, the garlic bread, nan bread, chips were so hard, like they have been over cooked or laying around. The macaroni and chicken korma tasted alright. After dinner, we went back down to the beach, then had an early night. Both of us had been feeling great until this point. When my daughter woke early in the morning complaining of a sore stomach. She sat up at the side of the bed and was sick, was mainly fluid, all over her pjs, and some went on the bed sheets at the side. I stripped the bed (like I always do at the end of a hotel stay). I rinsed the sick from the sheets with hot soapy water and put all the sheets together ready for the washing machine. We ended up leaving Lunan hotel, and tavelled back home 2 1/5 hours. When we got home, we both had diarrhea. I'm now wondering if it has been the food at the hotel that made my 7 year old daughter sick and gave us both diarrhea. As we were both perfectly fine until we got to the hotel, and the only other place we went to was a walk down to the beach. Later that night, after we got home, an invoice of £50 was sent via Booking.com( no mention of what the £50 was for), and money was taken from my bank account. I sent Lunan Hotel a message directly and via Booking.com to ask if this was for the sheets that I had rinsed as my daughter had been sick (the sheets only needed the washing machine). I have had no reply from Lunan Hotel, just ignored.

The room we had was hot as it was sun facing (not the hotel’s fault) and our window couldn’t be opened very far because of railings. We did have a fan though which helped.

Staff were amazing, especially Michael.He went above and beyond nothing was too much trouble .Thank you to all your staff for saving the day .There was a fabulous cafe near the beach and you were 3 mins walk from the beach.

Maybe have a wee bit more of a range of vegetarian meals 😋 but not a massive problem.Nothing could be remotely a problem in such a beautiful place .

lovely location not far from the beach had lovely gardens and plenty of parking. Property was clean and comfortable and had a dining room for meals and breakfast and a reception and bar area. The double room was a reasonable size with a very comfy bed. A small ensuite was in the room, compact but clean and tidy with a nice shower (albeit a rain shower). We managed to book the property for a lot less than it is normally priced at and I was very happy with the Hotel.

It's not a didn't like, it's an observation. This is a lovely hotel only 2 things let it down 1 is the colour of the doors (they show up all the knocks/scratches caused by constantly being hit by peoples luggage ect) and the slightly peeling wallpaper. Wouldn't stop me from going again though. The 2nd is the food, although good, I was expecting a more of a restaurant style menu, again wouldn't stop me from going again.

Schöne Unterkunft mit super Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Das inbegriffene Frühstück war auch sehr gut. Es gab auch Abendessen bis 19:00 Uhr, unsere Bestellung wurde aber grosszügigerweise auch noch um 19:05 Uhr entgegen genommen. In Gehdistanz schöner Strand und Ruine vorhanden.

Wir hatten ein Zweibettzimmer gebucht. Dies bestand im Endeffekt aus einem Queensize Bett und einem Klappbett, welches wir leider aber nicht nutzen konnten, da es einen sehr unbequemen Spalt in der Mitte hatte. Das positive daran war aber das jeder seine eigene Decke hatte. Boden im Schlafzimmer war sandig, mit Hausschuhen aber gut machbar.

Hotel is a short walk from the Lunan Bay beach and it was the perfect location for a family trip with my dog. We all had a ball going down the lane to the beach every day. Farm Shop/Cafe on site there too and plenty of parking. Room was big enough for us, clean and with a view of the horses in the opposite field. The hotel gardens are lovely too. Gluten free breakfast options in the morning were great with enough choice for a full breakfast. Would stay again.

Quite a small bar area for the number of guests however we did use the outside seating area when it was dry.

Room clean, fresh, with lovely view of gardens and historic stable block tower. The grounds are beautiful and tranquil. The stately house setting is peaceful and within a very short walk of a wonderful sandy bay with the ruins of a 12th century castle at one end of it. The breakfast was exceptionally good served in a pleasant, airy room in the old mansion. Way better than expected and can heartily recommend.
