Great location. Very good breakfast.
In triple room, no stand up shower, just a tub. Not mentioned in booking. Third single bed was in very poor condition and not suitable for an adult.
2nd stay! Loved it even more! Beautiful place, lovely hosts, delicious breakfast, amazing bath in the room! Such a comfy bed! Definitely our favourite place to stay in Richmond.
Clean and beautifully furnished in a style fitting with the location and age of property.
It would be tricky for less able bodied people to access the rooms via the old staircases but this wasn’t an issue for us.
Full of charm and character. Great location and excellent breakfast. Nigel, our host, couldn’t have been kinder. Would highly recommend!
Castle House is a historic Georgian townhouse and the sense of history is evident. It is a world away from the modern sanitised hotels that we know so well. The lady who greeted and served us was very helpful and pleasant. For access to central Richmond and the square, the position is ideal.
The decor isn’t high end boutique and there is too much unnecessary clutter that could do with clearing out. The age of the building comes with sloping floors and creaky boards, low ceilings and small rooms. Although we were lucky to come across a nearby space, parking close to it could be a problem.
Lady at bar very friendly and helpful
Creaky bed an floorboards
We loved everything about our stay. The water was super hot, which was amazing. The staff were lovely, Breakfast was so fresh and hot. The room was amazing.
Owners and staff very friendly and helpful. Room very comfortable and breakfast was a delight.
Very friendly staff. Boutique atmosphere. Good location
The kindness of a welcome drink and a special bottle for my Partners Birthday.
Ideal location.
Very small bedroom and even smaller ensuite. You sat on the toilet with your left elbow in the sink. The shower was so small I almost touched all four walls (I'm not that fat!). The shower pressure was almost non existent and very poor flow to both taps in the sink. The bedroom door lock was a challenge to open and the door was a very poor fit to the frame. It would normally have been ok for the one night I was there, but facilities and description simply did not fit the rather full price paid. Breakfast was fine.
A lovely friendly place to stay. Full of character and very welcoming. We slept well, the breakfast was delicious and the location ideal. Couldn’t ask for more.
Nothing to dislike
Super location in central Richmond , great breakfast , very helpful & friendly staff
Our room’s decor was a little faded …..
Tolle Lage.
Lovely accommodation, clean and comfortable. Host was very welcoming and we had a welcome drink on arrival which was nice and the breakfast was first class.
Parking not the easiest so we went on the pay and display carpark near by,not really a problem though.
Bathroom, bed and breakfast.
Size of room
Breakfast incredible. Location was excellent. Host lovely
Parking could only use a disc
Excellent location just off main square in Richmond - handy for the restaurant/ shops and with ample parking nearby. Lovely old house . good breakfast Good and popular location for those doing the CToC walk.
An old house with very uneven/ sloping floors which might be difficult for sone people.
The welcome drink was a nice touch The breakfast was excellent The staff were friendly and welcoming Great location
The bed was a bit soft and springy
Great place to stay near to all amenities, lovely touch having a glass of wine and beer for my partner on arrival. Room was comfortable and decoration fitted the surroundings of the area and building
The quirky room and hotel ..location was really good for local amenities
Nothing
Lovely place. Nicely situated to see the town. Quiet location. Friendly host with a complimentary drink on arrival. Nice clean room, soft towels and an easy to operate shower. Fab breakfast. All you need and good choice. Value for money. Would stop again.
Good location in Richmond. An old building which does mean uneven floors. Good breakfast and Nigel was helpful
The location was good. The breakfast was good. I must say the towels bed sheets were immaculate also tablecloths and napkins were spotless.
We arrived at 4pm to check in. Rang doorbell and knocked on door for 4-5 minutes now answer we sat on chairs outside building 2 more couples turned up we explained we had tried but they tried no answer I looked up on Booking.com and got phone number rang. The owner answered I explained that we had all arrived he said he'd gone home? as he didn't feel well we let ourselves in and found our rooms no welcome drink as advertise? To say we were disappointed is an understatement we saw no one till breakfast. Two ladies who were doing coast to coast walk had a room with a bath they asked for a shower. It was not a boutique guest house it was run down neglected the lady serving breakfast said He had recently taken possession but on looking back at reviews on trip advisor people had complained in2023 and he replied then so it seems a patern to say he's only just taken over. It was definitely not as advertised. It spoiled our trip which we had decided we would extend our stay so glad we didn't ring and book. The other couple were going to see if they could cancel the other nights they had booked. He needs to try what others are offering for less money and not calling them boutique. He is a disgrace to Booking.com..who need to check this property out and recaterise as what it is. He'd be alot better running a café. Or his staff would. The room was a decent size but full of furniture taking all the room the floor sloped about 100mm which as an old building sound's quirky but with all the furniture leaning opening the door to enter you had to push door wide open to get past chest of drawers straight in front of you also everything electrical was plugged into various extensions? Don't trip.
Breakfast really good, decent location for Richmond golf course. market square with pubs in your doorstep
room small, bed collapsed twice!!. generally accommodation could do with modernisation. Corridors dark.
Breakfast was fine
No shower and no hot water
Great location
Very helpful, nothing was too much bother.
Having to leave
Breakfast particularly the sausage was very good!
Parking was difficult.
Richmond is a charming village with loads of history and the Castle House fits right into the vibe. Location is right off the main square and by nighttime it was completely quiet. We were worried because there was a carnival in town but now problem. Very convenient to dining, pubs and the castle. Check-in process went quickly. They have parking passes available and you get a welcome beverage too. Our room, The Wensley Suite was on the top floor with a nice view of one of the castle towers. Room was good size and typically decorated for a village B&B of this style. A little bit dark but lots of storage if needed. Bed was firm and pretty good. Nice touches - Water, glasses, coffee and biscuits. It was a hot day but were were able to prop open the windows at night and sleeping temp was comfortable with the fan. Breakfast was hearty and tasty. They had a full house and handled it all well.
We did have to wait until 4 pm to check in which was a little later that we'd like but we made it work. We didn't realize there wouldn't bee a standing shower with a curtain so that was pretty messy, water everywhere. Also the TV didn't work.
Authentiek gebouw, sfeer, ontbijt
Relatief smal bed
Fabulous old building , Lovely unique room great breakfast thank you Nigel 👍🏻😁
It was quiet and quirky
The stairs and no shower just a bath.
Good location - comfortable bed and lovely room. Excellent breakfast,
Die Lage, das Personal, schönes Haus
Kein WLan im Zimmer
Welcoming and comfortable. Central location.
Homely, central, friendly hosts
Not the hosts fault, but there was a fayre in the centre so parking was a small pain
The staff was very friendly a fantastic clean room with a bath in the room beds were comfortable and the breakfast was amazing. Our room was already for us at 11am. Thank you so much 😊
Not really a bad thing but I couldn't see pouring the hot water into the cups as it was on a tall chest of draws I'm only 5ft 4 lol 😆
Breakfast was nicely presented and well cooked. The host was useful and friendly. Central location within Richmond.
The bedroom was quite cramped and required some gymnastics to get in and out of bed. No proper shower facility. Difficult to view the TV due to obstructions. It was certainly very disappointing for a "superior" double room at a "luxury B&B". Nothing 'superior' or 'luxury' about it. Also, parking was tricky.
Staff very accomadating and so friendly and so helpfull.
Our room was just a bit small for our liking apart from that the stay was excellent
A warm welcome from an excellent host, and beautifully decorated. Great location and wonderful breakfast.
Nothing was all great.
Room was quaint. Very old building so floors uneven. Shower a bit slow but i needed walk in shower . Helpful staff. Breakfast good.
Parking was an issue. I have blue badge so didnt have to watch the clock but finding a space difficult.
Setting, facilities, staff, food.
Everything was lovely. Room and bathroom excellent. Breakfast delicious. Would highly recommend.
Only issue was checking in time. Due to parking in Richmond car was a way away so had to lug bags around with us
Very friendly welcome and we were treated to a bottle of sparkly in our room to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The breakfast was wonderful. A lovely laid back stay. Thank you! 😊
Attention to detail down to a hot water bottle in room. We only stayed a night but the room was large and comfortable with plenty of storage and you could stay for days without feeling oppressed. Host very welcoming and kind. The house itself is beautiful. It is very old and well maintained. If you want perfectly level floors and walls best stay in a Premier Inn (my personal hell). Water piping hot. The location is central and it does have a view of the castle. Breakfast was perfect and there was a great continental and cooked to order selection. There's a DVD library and an honesty bar. Bed very comfortable. Room lighting was perfect. We thought parking was going to be a faff but it really wasn't.
Nothing. This is a beautifully run guest house.
Excellent location and fabulous breakfast .
The local area, pubs
The mattress was too hard not very comfortable night
Great location friendly welcome. Quirky building. Nice room. Great breakfast
It s is a very old building (over 200 years old) and that is reflected in the interior!! Creaking floors, not a straight plumb line anywhere, original uneven floors and ceilings! This is an antidote to the mono culture of the Premier Inns of this world! The staff were great and friendly and the breakfast was pretty damned good! I loved tea in mismatched bone china sets, reminded me of my great aunts house. Excellent!
There is nothing i didn’t like. in a property of this age and provenance air con, USB plugs, multi channel satellite TV’s, etc (there is WiFI) don’t fit! So don’t be disappointed.
Location was great. Communication was great regarding out of hours check in. Room was clean & comfortable. Breakfast was AMAZING!
Fabulous suite with an amazing bath! Host was very friendly and welcoming. Room was clean and had everything we needed.
Fantastic Bteakfast Great location
Room definitely shouldn’t be described as luxury , it far from it .
Great location, superb breakfast, very friendly staff
check in at 4pm
Great location and the hosts were very accommodating
Bit of a lottery for parking but easy to get a spot later on
Breakfast was fair, seats were pretty poor. I was almost under the table so I had to go and look for a cushion to sit on as their was no one to ask for another chair at the time
It's not what we expected, apart from Nigel being at the property and giving us our complimentary drink
The building is in a central location, very old, but fabulous inside. Very quirky (I like wonky!) Beds and pillows were so comfortable, the breakfast was first class, staff so friendly and the whole place has a quaint charm to it. The huge bath was so relaxing, and the overall experience couldn't have been better. We loved it! ❤
Couldn't fault the place, the fabulous friendly staff, or the owner Nigel.
Complimentary drink on arrival. Good quality breakfast. Very welcoming host.
Limited parking. Late check in time.
Location in the town was great. Property was charming. Staff member I was greeted by and served at breakfast was very friendly. Breakfast was lovely. Pillows were fantastic Clean and tidy rooms Welcome drink on arrival.
Shower cubicle in need of update- doors very difficult to close. Water either too hot or cold.
Quirky place due to age, but clean and food excellent.
Tele a bit small though no room for bigger one.
Lovely traditional furniture throughout.
Great location, lovely and clean, great breakfast.
Thought it was expensive for the small room we had and shower wasnt great
Lovely room, very comfy bed and friendly and welcoming hosts.
Clean, comfortable and pleasant place for a overnight stay
Nothing
Breakfast was superb. Centrally located in a lovely small market town
Initially difficult do find the location but parking worked out well.
Location cleanliness breakfast
Fire in suite wasn't a working fire, was looking forward to lighting it, sitting beside it.
Location
Damp and peeling paint and wallpaper in room. No hot water in the morning.
Very friendly welcome from Nigel with a complimentary drink. The sitting room was really pleasant, the room was warm and comfortable and the breakfast was superb. Also, the hotel is in an excellent location
Very warm welcome Clean and comfortable Excellent location
The breakfast was lovely and the room was beautiful. The location was good, right in the centre of the town Plenty of pubs.
We had to pay for overnight parking
We had a great night at the castle house , our room was spotless, comfortable and quite with a good selection of teas and coffee also with some lovely housecoats to wear, we ordered breakfast for 8am and it was ready for us coming down and it was really nice , staff were very nice and helpful. Would stay again .
Couldn't fault it , would stay again.
The location was great, right next to the castle. The breakfast was excellent. A bottle of water, lots of different teas, coffees, milk and biscuits were supplied in the room.
The room and the bathroom were tired, the toilet seat was loose and the room needs redecorating overall. Loose light switch to the bathroom and dangerously hot water from the bath/shower mixer tap (my partner scalded her arm when turning the shower off). The space for the bed is too small for a double bed, hardly any room either side to get into the bed.
Unfortunately, we had to find alternative accommodation after the first night. Despite the fact that I advised the owner (twice), that we would be arriving at 5:30pm on the 23rd January, there was nobody to let us in, help us with our luggage and show us to our rooms, My mother who is 85 had to stand in the cold and rain for 10 minutes before we finally got in. As per the description for Castle House, we were meant to be greeted by the owner with a complimentary drink - no sign of that !! No warm fire either. Our bedrooms were cold. My mothers towels were threadbare. My bedroom was not refreshed the second morning. Bed unmade and the sink was left filthy. Breakfast was mediocre. I'm sorry, I would not recommend.
The location was good with lovely views from our window. The room was cosy and we both slept well. Both enjoyed the beautiful roll top bath. Breakfast was very nice and Nigel is a very helpful and friendly host.
The room was a little smaller than we were expecting, though did have a seperate dressing room, also we had a little trouble using the WiFi. Bathrobes could've been a little thicker/softer.
The owner was very kind and helpful… best we’ve ever had!
Excellent location. Delicious breakfast.
Was in the middleham room. Would have preferred a shower, but there was a shower over the bath.
Helpful host and good food
The bath in our room was cracked and chipped with sharp edges so didn't want to use it
Lovely quirky old property in a good location. Very nice breakfast and friendly staff.
Nothing
Lovely quirky room, beautiful building, excellent hosts and amazing breakfast.
Nothing, it was brilliant
The breakfast was very good, good quality produce and service in the morning. We enjoyed options for breakfast with great coffee and a lovely cosy setting, the lady wo served us was really lovely and helpful and checked in with us whilst we ate to make sure we had everything we needed, really fabulous service. I had the salmon with two perfectly poached eggs and my partner had the full english option, all delicious. Great location just off the market square and an early check in which was appreciated. Our room had a huge indulgent bath, a great touch.
The lampshades (Ceiling shades with beads on) in the bedroom were rather low, so you kept hitting your head and not really in the style of the room. Otherwise the room was cosy and very comfortable.
Central location, comfortable bed, delicious breakfasts
We would have liked a walk in shower
Location, friendly staff, clean rooms, attention to detail!
Only thing was the mattress, really uncomfortable 😣
Stayed here two years ago nice quirky place . Breakfast lovely room nice great location Internet password did not work
Nothing
Location was very close to all amenities. Castle house was very homely, clean and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was superb and the lady working at breakfast was very nice and had bought us a Xmas present.
The only thing I can think of is the lock on our bedroom door was a bit wobbly.
Bed was really comfy Breakfast was lovely Fab Location 😊
One thing we would have preferred was an option of a shower But wasnt a big deal.
The room was so nice and comfortable

Everything
Excellent location, friendly staff
Confusing arrival and lack of parking
The Castle House staff made us feel very welcome, showing us the facilities, providing a complimentary drink and explaining all ‘housekeeping’ matters like parking and breakfast. The room was cosy and beautifully clean if a little uneven underfoot given the age of the building. We both slept very well and enjoyed a delicious breakfast of locally sourced produce. Overall a really lovely experience, if we stop in Richmond again then The Castle house will be a first choice.
