We had a fantastic stay at this lovely and tidy B&B. It is situated in a wonderfully quiet location, making it the perfect stop along the North Coast 500 route.The hostess was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. We also highly appreciated their clear focus on sustainability throughout the property. Our room was both beautiful and spacious, equipped with reliable Wi-Fi. The en-suite bathroom was spotless and included a shower, sink, and toilet.While there is no lift on-site, the charm of the property more than makes up for it. There is no dinner restaurant, but they offer a great alternative: you can bring your own takeaway food and eat it in the comfortable common room. Another big plus was the private, free parking space right on the property.In the morning, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast with both continental options and an à la carte menu to choose from. Highly recommended for anyone touring the NC500!

We stayed here for 2 nights. We chose it for the location as we were going to Castle of Mey and John O’Groats. It was ideal for this. We ate out both nights, once in Thurso and once in Scrabster, both were an easy, short drive away On arrival, we were given a warm welcome. We were on the first floor and there’s quite a lot of stairs to get up there but the hallway looks very grand. There is a lovely breakfast room and lounge downstairs. Our room was very big with lots of storage space. The decor was lovely and it was all themed to Scottish clans. There were coffee facilities but no decaf coffee in the room. There were two chairs in the room and it was all very comfortable and clean. The bathroom was a reasonable size and it had a very effective and hot shower. There were some toiletries provided. Our host was very welcoming and informative. Breakfast included lots of choice for Continental and also hot food on request which you fill in a form the night before. All very efficient. There’s a small car park outside but adequate number of spaces for the number of guests. I would definitely recommend this B&B.

Beautiful Victorian villa with original features, eg high moulded ceilings, large windows, quality craftmanship in plaster and woodwork, sweeping staircase. Dining room especially lovely, original fireplace, tables laid attractively. Excellent breakfast, and early service for guests with early leaving time, eg for Orkney ferry. Comfortable bed, light airy room, quiet. I had booked a single room with a shared bathroom (with one other room) but it was always empty when I needed it. I also had a washbasin with hot water in my room. Lots of sockets for laptop etc. Good wifi. Location perfect for me as had work in Scrabster.

I'd have liked a table/desk for my laptop - room had coffee-tables and comfy chair.

Owners are so helpfull and friendly. Everything went smoothly. You won’t regret staying here. 👍

Charming characterful guest house. Our double room with shared bathroom was a little small but fine for an overnight on the NC500. Welcoming, friendly host who provided a tasty cooked breakfast. Good area for parking and easy to find. Good walking distance to a local restaurant. We would certainly recommend.

Il y avait un soucis avec le pommeau de la douche dans notre chambre. Rien de grave. Un mini frigo nous aurait bien aidé.

Breakfast was order and very good and on time. Room clean with extras like coffee, small chocolates, etc Also they have a common room which we used to eat a takeaway due to all the restaurants closed or full.

Wow, what a lovely accommodation that we had the privilege of staying at for two nights. Our hostess was a true delight to meet. Our room was bright, comfortable and incredibly clean. Breakfast was equally delicious with several choices to have. Would go back in a heartbeat.

We booked this hotel last minute after a horrible stay elsewhere the previous night. We were so happy to arrive at this pristine clean beautiful B&B. Friendly welcoming hosts, lovely room, clean hot shower. Lovely breakfast 😋 highly recommend.

Mit sehr viel Liebe hergerichtetes altes Bankhaus. Auch hier herrschte ein familäre Atmosphäre. Wir fühlten uns zuhause. Wlan funktioniert tadellos. Frühstück völlig ausreichend. Die Gastgeberin ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Die Lage an der Hauptstraße, war perfekt für unsere Reise auf der NC500.

Auch hier das Problem der fehlenden Hausnummern und ein überfordertes Navi.

An attractive and well-presented property with a very friendly and welcoming host. We were fortunate to be upgraded to a superior attic bedroom that had far-reaching views. There is a most impressive turning staircase comprising 46 steps up to the 2nd floor so we opted to take in an overnight bag only. The cooked breakfast was excellent!

There is a limited range of eating options in Castletown but, at the suggestion of the host, we bought fish and chips in Thurso (local shop closed) and ate them in the dining room at Greenland House. It made a nice change to eating out. We found the bed rather firm for our liking.

Firstly the staff (owner) was amazing, she was very kind and communicative. We booked the room with a “private” bathroom detached, which didn’t have a key to it and really would be able to be accessed by anyone, so I say private loosely. The mattress was incredibly firm and the pillows were like sleeping with a folded up sheet. I will say the breakfast was delicious with a lot of options. And the ease of driving to the ferry in Scrabster was nice/convenient

Great location for us seeing the north of Scotland. Some of the most amazing views in Scotland and the northern most beach in the UK. Victoria was the perfect host.

Ranald and Caroline were excellent hosts. Highly recommend staying here if your in the area.

Very friendly owner greeted us on our arrival and showed us to our room. The space was roomy, well organized, and quiet. The common areas were very pretty and welcoming. We had to catch an early ferry and the owner made every effort to ensure that we had a good breakfast before we left. I would recommend this hotel.

Also erst mal hatte ich grad schon einen Upgrade zu einem Zimmer mit eigenem Bad gekriegt, tausend Dank dafür! Das ist ein wunderschönes und total stilechtes schottisches Haus! Tiptop sauber und mit einer sehr freundlichen und hilfsbereiten Ownerin. Lage ist wundervoll, man kommt fussläufig zum riesigen Beach. Preis-Leistung ist erste Sahne!

Die Einfahrt zum eigenen Parkplatz war mir zu eng für mein Mietauto. Es gab aber nur ein kleines Stück weg einen öffentlichen Gratisparkplatz wo man das Auto hat über Nacht stehen lassen können.

Driving from Inverness the location was perfect to stopover on the NCR500 route after en-route stops including JO Groats and Dunnets head viewpoint. Splendid Dinner in adjacent hotel within walking distance.

A lovely warm welcome, beautiful decorated room, the most comfy bed of our whole trip, a stunning guest house with a lounge and a snug. Host was so accommodating for breakfast, we requested 7:30 as we had a ferry to catch, this was not a problem, porridge was made to order and delicious, continental selection was varied with plenty of options for every one. It was a shame we only stayed for one night.

Ok for a 1 night stay. Room was warm with the only window facing main road. Bed was very firm.

Friendly and welcoming staff, great cooked breakfast. Room was very clean and cosy. If the Highland Haddy fish and chips van is around definitely visit them for some fantastic fish and chips. Very convenient for visiting Dunnet Head (30 mins, nice drive) which we did late in the evening and the light was amazing. Also very close to Dunnet Beach, although we didn't really have time for this.

The house is nice and clean. We had to check in late due to our luggage being lost and having to purchase new items before heading north. The hostess was not happy to have to wait to check is in at 9, but we skipped dinner to get there when we did. We drove 10 minutes to a Tesco and made sandwiches in the room. It was a neat experience. There was another guest who needed an early breakfast, so the hostess offered us a continental breakfast. The room wasn't overly spacious, but it was certainly large enough for a couple of nights.

I liked the interior decor and the beautiful curving staircase. The bedroom was warm and comfortable and breakfast both days was delicious. I particularly welcomed the full pot of coffee. Too many places give people travelling alone measley little coffee pots!

We had wonderful stay at this charming accommodation. The property is set in a beautiful historical house that has been tastefully restored with chic, elegant décor. It perfectly balances classic charm with modern comfort. Everything was clean, cosy, and thoughtfully arranged. The atmosphere was peaceful, and you could really feel the history of the place. If you’re looking for a delightful place to stay in Castletown, I highly recommend Greenland House B&B. The property is set in a beautifully renovated period building right on the main road, making it easy to find and a convenient stop for cyclists—yet it remains peaceful and quiet, especially in mid-June. Our ensuite family room was located on the second floor, accessible via a stunning feature staircase. The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable, with thoughtful touches like a generous supply of tea, coffee, and even chocolates. Victoria, our host, was exceptionally friendly and welcoming—just what we needed after a long journey. For evening meals, Castletown offers several takeaway options, and you’re welcome to enjoy your food in the B&B’s inviting dining room. Don’t be misled by the building’s grey exterior; inside, it’s modern, stylish, and full of warmth. The communal areas—including the dining room, lounge, and snug—are cosy and well-stocked with books and games for all ages. We were able to securely store our bikes in a sheltered outdoor lean-to, safely out of sight from the main road. All in all, Greenland House B&B exceeded our expectations and provided a wonderful base for our stay in the area.
