Villa Adalbert Guesthouse

Wir waren im März nun schon zum zweiten Mal mit unserem Freunden Gast in der Villa Adalbert, diesmal für 6 Nächte. Um es vorwegzunehmen, alles ist perfekt, mir fällt nichts ein, was man verbessern könnte. Wir haben auf unseren vier Südafrikareisen viele Unterkünfte kennengelernt, alle waren schön und hatten ihre Reize, aber keine ist mit der Villa Adalbert in Sachen Komfort, Sauberkeit, Gastlichkeit, Individualität, Perfektion, Hochwertigkeit, .... vergleichbar. Auch wenn andere ebenfalls mit 5 Sterne werben, Mario spielt mit seiner Villa Adalbert da in einer ganz anderen Liga. Haus und Garten sind penibel gepflegt, extrem sauber, sehr hochwertig und individuell ausgestattet. Man findet im Garten keinen Ast, der aus der akkurat geschnittenen Hecke herausragt. Selbst das kleine Hühnergehege, in dem unterschiedliche Hühnerrassen Eier in verschiedensten Farben für das Frühstück produzieren, ist nahezu schmutzfrei. Apropos Frühstück: Da wird niemand enttäuscht sein .... Die 3 Suiten sind geschickt an ganz unterschiedlichen Stellen der Villa plaziert, mit jeweils einem eigenen Zugang. Im Haus stehen den Gästen das Esszimmer und zwei Wohnzimmer zur freien Verfügung. Im Garten gibt es eine Terrasse mit Lounge Möbeln und Feuerstellen sowie weitere Sitzecken über das Grundstück verteilt. Eines ist mir noch wichtig zu erwähnen. Gerade in 5 Sterne Hotels habe ich oft das Gefühl überbetreut zu sein. Ständig steht jemand neben mir und fragt nach meinen Wünschen, ob ich noch dies brauche oder jenes .....Das ist gut gemeint, aber manchmal lästig. In der Villa Adalbert ist Mario immer präsent, wenn man ihn benötigt oder es möchte, ansonsten ist er unsichtbar. Man kann jederzeit interessante Gespräche führen, Tipps erfragen, Restaurants buchen lassen, Erfahrungen austauschen oder einfach nur über das Wetter reden. Oder man kann einfach nur seine Ruhe haben. Mario ist nicht nur ein „netter Kerl“, er hat auch das Gespür zu wissen, was seine Gäste wünschen. Wir kommen wieder ...

The location, in a very quiet part of Somerset West, is most conducive to a peaceful stay. The property is beautifully laid out, with public areas excellently furnished & the grounds expertly kept. The individual cottages are furnished to an exceptionally high standard, with the facilities in each one carefully & sensitively selected to provide for the needs of the guests. The pool & surrounding area is fantastic for generally relaxing in & every need is catered for. Mario & his staff are on hand, personally or via WhatsApp, to answer any question or attend to any request, which they do with enthusiasm & expertise. Nothing is too much trouble & the advice about where to eat, what to see, interesting opportunities to take advantage of is offered freely, with reservations made by Mario in all & any places to ensure a warm welcome & excellent service. The individually prepared breakfast dishes are substantial, delicious & prepared with love. We will be back!

Another return visit, this is our favourite place to stay when visiting South Africa. Villa Adalbert is a wonderful, with just three cottages all of which are beautifully furnished and very comfortable, making it ideal for a peaceful and tranquil break. The host, Mario and his team are very friendly and welcoming, and Mario’s attention to detail ensures that you want for nothing. The property is set in beautiful gardens with a lovely pool area, and with plenty of places to sit, relax and unwind. The breakfasts are beautifully presented and delicious, prepared using eggs from the resident chickens and some home grown produce. Mario also has his home made deli products which are delicious and available to purchase.

Von dem Moment, in dem wir in der Villa ankamen, fühlten wir uns herzlich willkommen. Mario begrüßte uns sehr herzlich an der Tür. Dort waren bei unserer Ankunft kleine Handtücher (hierbei handelte es sich um außergewöhnliche Handtücher, die wir nirgends vorher gesehen haben) und selbstgemachte Begrüßungsdrinks mit frischer Frucht fertig für uns vorbereitet. Der Checkin verlief schnell und unkompliziert und wir erhielten bereits hier alle wichtigen Informationen, anschl. führte Mario uns durch das Guesthouse und seinen Garten zu unserem Zimmer. Im Guesthouse stehen den Gästen etliche Räume / Lounge zur Nutzung zur Verfügung stehen. All diese Räume sind sehr liebevoll und dekorativ eingerichtet und im ganzen Haus liegt ein wunderbarer Duft. Das Guesthouse liegt in einer ruhigen Wohngegend von Somerset West und ist - wie in Südafrika üblich - mit einer Mauer und Elektrodraht gesichert. Mit dem Leihwagen oder Uber kann man alles mühelos erreichen. Das Vergelegen Wine Estate liegt nur 8 Minuten Fahrtzeit von der Villa entfernt. Über Mario konnten wir vorab einen kostengünstigen Transfer vom /zum Flughafen buchen - dieser Transfer hat Problemlos geklappt und erfolgte mit einem sauberen Audi A4 und einem sehr netten, hilfsbereiten Fahrer. Der Fahrer wartete bereits bei unserer Ankunft am Flughafen mit einem Schild der Villa in der Hand. Bereits vor und am Tag unserer Anreise hat Mario uns mit allen benötigen Informationen zum Transfer auf dem laufenden gehalten. So waren wir vorab bestens über alles informiert. Mario hat sich unheimlich viel Mühe  mit allem gemacht - solch einen Service findet man auf der Welt sicherlich nur selten. Wir hatten eine fantastische Zeit in der Villa, die leider viel zu kurz war, beim nächsten Mal werden wir auf jeden Fall länger bleiben. Marios Guesthouse ist eine kleine ruhige wunderschöne Oase, in der man sich bestens erholen kann.

Wir hatten das große Glück, zwei wundervolle Tage im Gästehaus Adalbert in Summerside West zu verbringen und es war von Anfang bis Ende einfach perfekt. Schon beim ankommen, spüren wir, mit wie viel Herz und Liebe zum Detail alles eingerichtet war. Die Unterkunft ist nicht nur äußerst sauber und gepflegt, sondern strahlt eine warme, einladende Atmosphäre aus, in der man sich sofort wohl fühlt. Mario, der Inhaber, war außergewöhnlich, aufmerksam und herzlich, ohne dabei aufdringlich zu wirken. Man merkt sofort, dass ihm das Wohl seiner Gäste wirklich am Herzen liegt. Ein echtes Highlight war das dazu gebuchte Frühstück: frisch, unglaublich lecker und optisch so liebevoll angerichtet, dass man es am liebsten erst fotografiert und erst dann genießt. Jeder Teller war ein kleines Kunstwerk. Diese zwei Tage im Gästehaus haben unseren gesamten Urlaub noch einmal aufgewertet. Wir kommen sehr gern wieder und können diese Unterkunft uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen.

We had another wonderful stay at this beautiful guesthouse! Everything was clean and comfortable, and the pool with mountain views was just amazing. Mario was so friendly (as always) and gave us great tips for restaurants and things to do. I especially appreciated the quality of the towels and linen, and the fresh flowers in our room every day were a lovely touch. Breakfast was delicious — we couldn’t have asked for a better stay!

Posto molto curato, tranquillo, immerso nel verde di un giardino splendido. Mario ci ha accolto con grande calore e autentica ospitalità e la mattina seguente ci ha deliziato con una colazione davvero impressionante (uova fresche delle sue galline ed erbette del suo orto). Peccato per il soggiorno breve, ma torneremo sicuramente!

The Villa Adalbert didn't dissapoint for one second. I am absolutely happy with my stay here, and impressed with the quality of the services that I received. Amazingly clean, everything is really well organized, comfortable, silent and relaxing. Just a pleasure, and enjoynment. I liked everything from welcoming that I had, until the small details that you find everywhere (room, garden, breakfast). I reccomend this place with all my heart!

Mario did everything to make our stay perfect from start to finish. We were welcomed with a glass of bubbly and a tour of the beautiful, spotless property. The gardens were stunning, with hundreds of different plants and plenty of spots to sit and relax. Our cottage was very clean and beautifully decorated, with a large patio, hammock, and swing chair. Breakfast was the best we’ve ever had — fresh eggs from their own chickens, over 20 types of fresh fruit, and everything looked and tasted like it came from a 5-star restaurant. We had an amazing time, wished we could have stayed longer, and we will definitely come back. We highly recommend this place!

This was a repeat visit to Villa Adalbert and as always it was another exceptional stay, with Mario and his wonderful team going above and beyond to make it a truly special place to stay. The rooms are all exquisitely decorated and provide all the comforts needed to make it feel like home from home. The breakfasts are not only delicious but beautifully presented using fresh produce, some of which is from the garden and eggs from the resident chickens. We always feel very welcomed by Mario who goes out of his way to provide wonderful hospitality, and we are very lucky to have found such an amazing place for relaxation, comfort and tranquility.

Breakfast was amazing and very fresh. Great location with a stunning view of the mountain. Absolutely amazing garden and vegetable garden. Mario was very welcoming and super helpful. It is the best guesthouse I have ever stayed in. I highly recommend staying here!

This is a difficult review to write simply because I’m not sure how to do our dear host, Mario, justice. To say the stay was perfect would be a gross understatement. It’s been a few days since we returned from Villa Aldalbert, and I am still in awe of how Mario and his villa was by far the best possible foil imaginable to our adventures in Cape Town. Everything about his guesthouse amplified our experience—from the impeccably clean, well-curated furnishings and decor, to the architecture and layout of the cottage and gorgeous pool, to the beautiful gardens with a multitude of herbs and veggies, to Speedy, the feisty tortoise, and his pals Woody and Luna the most excitable, goodest doggos ever, the list goes on and on and on. After Mario gave us a tour of the grounds on the day we arrived, I legit turned to my traveling companion and told her: “I’m totally cool staying here the rest of our trip… I don’t need to see anything else.” (despite traveling 40 hrs on two planes and one long layover to get to Cape Town…notably also our first time on the continent). Thankfully, Mario convinced us that we shouldn’t turn down the opportunity for a safari game drive just because we loved his breakfast so much (this was a real conversation! we told him we were going to cancel because we didn’t want to miss his delicious food)! Mario was graciousness embodied, and his kindness, enthusiasm, and pride for the experience he was providing us was obvious in every interaction we had with him. Although Villa Adalbert is beyond words the best accommodation I’ve probably ever been to, the real gem was Mario—never overbearing, but always there whenever we (didn’t know) we needed him. Do not hesitate to go for a stay with him at his Villa—you will not regret it. Thank you SO MUCH, Mario!! I hope to see you and all of your backyard animal friends again!

Villa Adalbert is perfect. The attention to detail to make sure that you have a wonderful stay is amazing. Mario and his team provide an excellent, friendly and efficient service and nothing is too much trouble. They have thought of everything to make sure that you have all the home comforts, including a pillow choice! The breakfasts are delicious and beautifully presented with a great selection, freshly prepared by Mario using where possible home grown produce from his vegetable garden and eggs from his chickens. It’s lovely to have a choice of places to enjoy the breakfast, in the gardens, outside our cottage or in the house depending on the weather. Ivy Cottage where we stayed was beautifully decorated, very comfortable and private. The gardens are stunning and there is a lovely area to relax by the swimming pool. A little piece of heaven for a relaxing getaway.

Where to start? Every single moment is a treat in this very special house: the warm welcome, the beautiful rooms (which is more like a little house!), the very tasteful decoration all over Villa Adalbert, the little thoughtful things (like a painkiller, sunscreen and even a stain remover if necessary), the extraordinary breakfast, the beautiful gardens, the spotless cleanliness … I could go on and on. This was our 4th visit and it definitely won’t be the last one. We travelled a lot through South Africa, but this is by far one of the best guesthouses you can find. The host Mario is unbeatable! We sure love that place and if we are in South Africa, we sure find our way to Villa Adalbert, because it’s like coming home!

There is nothing!

This is the second time we’ve stayed and once again Mario gave a masterclass of being the perfect host. The rooms and outside spaces to relax and enjoy are delightful and breakfast is perfection. If you need to stay in Somerset West, look no further.

This property far exceeded my expectations, to be honest I don't think I have stayed anywhere better (and this includes 5* hotels). The breakfast is superb - a work of art and delicious. Mario is super kind and caring about his guest's enjoyment at his house.

What didn't I like - leaving!

Breakfast was absolutely excellent. Wonderful selection of fruit freshly prepared every morning and eggs served straight from Mario's on site chickens.

There are not enough superlatives to describe the villa complex, the food or the service provided. It is all simply amazing. This villa was recommended to me by people I met on another holiday. I am so so glad I went. If you want to stay somewhere special, peaceful and get treated like royalty then book a stay at the villa.

There is nothing at all that I did not like....

The stay was just perfect, Mario made everything possible and was a wonderful host. The rooms and the park like gardens are immaculate. We be traveled a lot and this is by far the best boutique hotel experience we ever had. 10/10 would recommend.

From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by a warm and welcoming atmosphere that set the tone for a truly memorable experience. My stay at Villa Adalbert was a delight and the room was incredibly comfortable, offering a true sense of luxury, and on top they provided the option of choosing a pillow that suited my sleep preferences. The dreamy garden was a highlight, offering several areas where one could fully appreciate its beauty and the silence around. The pool is surrounded by greenery and offers an intimate atmosphere, I was feeling like in a secret garden. The indoor lounge is just as thoughtfully designed as the gardens. It's really nicely decorated, and being there can really inspire you. The amazing breakfast served here was the perfect cherry on top! I highly recommend this accommodation to anyone!

The rooms of Villa Adalbert are very clean and spacious. The bed was very comfortable, the garden was very fascinating. And the breakfast was a work of art and delicious.

Mario gave us a very warm welcome. After a short refreshment he gave us a tour of his property. Mario has really created his own little oasis in the middle of a pleasant neighborhood in Somerset West. In the service, furnishings and design of his property, you can see Mario's attention to detail and passion for making his guests' time enjoyable and carefree. We stayed with mario at the end of our stay in South Africa and would have liked to stay longer than just 2 days. We felt completely at home, from the choice of pillows, to the assistance with dinner planning, to the breakfast, which is a true art and a great treat, both inside and outside location. Eggs from his own farm, and a fruit salad with more than 15 fruits, insane! The cottages are absolutely cozy in a family atmosphere. We therefore make a heartfelt recommendation for Mario and his Villa Adalbert and definitely come again.

Absolutely everything. This was an exceptional stay. Mario is so friendly and accommodating and nothing is too much for him. He is an excellent host. We travel a lot and Villa Adalbert is one of the most neat and clean establishments that we ever stayed at. Mario is a very pleasant host. He knows the nearby wine farms well and offered many tips on what to see and do. I can just confirm what other reviews already say - we had a very delicious breakfast with many options to choose from - excellent hot and cold breakfast choices. We will definitely stay again when in the area - it is a great choice for accommodation in Somerset West, close to the Strand and even close enough to Stellenbosch. The garden is also lovely and well taken care of.

Lovely breakfast experience in a peaceful and chic-designed garden or in the romantic gazebo overlooking the beautiful property, pool and garden; an incredible savoury and appetising food prepared by Mario - you can choose from a variety of food options.

It was our third time at Villa Adalbert so we already knew what to expect. But yet again we were overwhelmed by the beauty of this house and the hospitality of Mario. Every little detail of this place is kept to perfection and spotlessly clean! The room and bathroom are decorated with loads of style and taste and we found everything you might want from that carafe of sherry on the side table to the pocket umbrella for the very rare Capetonian shower! The garden is a provencal dream come true with its hedges and lavender and we absolutely loved that intense scent of Jasmin in one corner at night. The breakfast is absolutely unrivaled and you choose when and where to have it served. We found a piece of decoration art on our plates every morning! Mario keeps his business small enough to be able to pay close and personal attention to every single visitor himself and does it with utmost friendliness and professionally. One notices immediately that he loves what he's doing and that shows throughout. Thank you again for a fantastic stay!
