Reviewed Aug 30, 2026Staff and owner were friendly and welcoming. I didn't use the kitchen but it seemed a little on the smaller side for the number of guests. 2 separate living areas.
The center of the building is not roofed so was cold walking from living rooms to dormitory and bathrooms in Winter.

Reviewed Jul 15, 2026The owner is very friendly and helpful. The bed in the room was comfy. Well equipped kitchen for cooking and convenient location in town, plus parking.
I do feel bad for saying this because the owner is nice and very friendly, but the hostel did badly need a clean. The bathroom was pretty dirty, no paper etc looked like it hasn’t been cleaned in a while.

Reviewed Jun 21, 2026The host was very helpful and flexible. I didn't get to try a coffee from the coffee machine but the offer was there and much appreciated. Rooms are arranged in a kind of courtyard which made access easier for biking gear and the like. I was driving a car and was able to park off the street which was also much appreciated.
The door on my room had a missing seal. I was concerned that it might lose extra warmth but it seemed ok. I'm sure that will get fixed at some point though & not a biggie.

To be honest with y’all it wasn’t clean. There was stains on the sheets, on the pillow and I got a cockroach on me in the shower. I was disappointed with the price VS what I got. I’m not doing this review to bother the owner, but just to be honest with futur customer like I would have loved to know.

Reviewed May 31, 2026One of, if not the best place I've stayed in on my 6 week trip in NZ. Amazing showers, free and hot unlike others I've been to. Super comfortable beds. Huge kitchen with everything you need. Big dining room and living room with tele to relax in and meet people. Plus Ian the owner is honestly the nicest, friendliest guy I've met in a while. Always available with help and guidance on what to do around town. 2 night stay turned into 5 I was that impressed. Highly recommend

Reviewed May 18, 2026Was awesome the kitchen was unlocked early or all night🤷🏽♀️(we woke early 4:30am, so showers wur unlocked, dinning room was also opened. Ian was an amazing host and made us feel so at ease, comfortable, talkative, helpful(giving us directions around town. we came from Auckland)
We didn’t know there was a second shower/toilet room, so we were using the handicap shower which had old people chairs😅, it was overly packed buuut we found the main toilet facilities and everything was good as gold👌🏾

The kitchen would appreciate a woofer polishing the shelves and benches a little.
