Provider-sourced guest reviews.
It was very close to yala so there were lots of wild animals. A pack of monkeys lived right next to our house. Everyone was also so lovely.
It is quite secluded. The closest city, atm and restaurant is 20 minutes in tuktuk so most of the time is used on the property. The host tried to help plan trips out to temples and such but it was very expensive because you had to rent a jeep for each trip for 15000lkr..
Sehr freundliche Gastgeber.
Niks! (wat kleine ongemakken maar dat hoort erbij 😎)
Top 5 experience of all time spent at this Homestay. They were able to sort a full day safari for us on very short notice before we arrived. We have a new friend in Hansa who was our knowledgeable tour guide and Homestay host. He and the driver had the skills and knowledge to make sure we saw as many animals as possible including a beautiful leopard! (I only have a video of the leopard) Being so close to the entrance and border of Yala allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the wild world we were in. They served unbelievably tasty traditional food throughout our short stay. Rooms were simple and charming. Fan worked well and made sleeping possible in hot conditions.
A very wild and yala-ish place to stay and start your safari. The comfort is more like camping which makes it very authentic. The host is very motivated to make your stay special - you’ll see ;)
The night with no fan was a little to warm to us to get some sleep.
This is simple accommodation but absolutely perfect and in a lovely setting in the wild.
Nothing
Alkes in allem perfekt.
Aanrader!
Amazing jungle experience with an attentive host. Great traditional evening meal. Host arranged YALA safari for us by prior arrangement Lovely set up with hammocks, swing, camp fire and farm. Children would love it! Host is a talented drummer.
Loved it.
This is about as authentic an experience as you can get. Staying about a mile from the official border of the national park Yala, you are in the jungle. Good base to get to Yala early as it's busy. Food was very good in general too, only $7 for a feast
Yala Wild House is an oasis of peace sorrounded by the nature. Delicious breakfast and dinner homemade and super kind family staff. Also, the position is ideal to plan a safari in the adjacent Yala National Park.
Eenmaal aangekomen zei hij tegen ons: “Go walk and be back in 30 minutes,” terwijl hij naar het strand wees.
Very nice if you are looking for “Off from city life”. The staff and the owner Priyanta are extremely friendly and helpful.
Name boards should have been placed as fhr location is inside the Jungle.
This was a very authentic safari experience and a must do to those a little more adventurous. The host was great and greeted us with a refreshing drink on arrival, and a concert in the evening. His son was really nice too and chatted to us during meals. The rooms are simple and clean.
The road is unsuitable for small cars
the host's kindness, attentiveness, and willingness to go above and beyond to ensure a positive experience.
Highly recommended. Adventurous feelings. Providing safari jeep in reasonable rate. Good complimentary breakfast. Good Dinner/lunch items in reasonable rate according to the location. Contact them before reaching there.
Such a friendly owner and staff - cooked us dinner which was yummy and then played the drums and sang local music with us which was such an amazing experience. The property is set in nature and feels authentic and super close to yala entrance.
Nothing! There are a few bugs around including in the room but that is expected with a rural property like this. Just to be aware if you don’t like bugs!
The property was perfect - we really felt at home
We really enjoyed our stay there, it's basic but we had everything we needed. The surrounding area was very nice and clean. The staff was very helpful. Dinner was really amazing. We got useful information and good recommendation for beach area to go - we went to Goyambokka and really enjoyed it.
Noting to say
Where do I begin. Prinyantha, the owner and his beautiful family, looked after us so well. He took us into town for a tour of the Buddist Temple and then back to his authentic environmental wonderland. The dinner was exceptional, and after dinner, he drummed to some tunes and made us laugh and have the best time. He organised our driver for the Safari and our transfers to Mirissa Tue the next day but not before a delicious lunch after our safari. His wife's fish curry was by far the best we've eaten in Sri Lanka. This experience would cost us a fortune at one of the zoos in Australia. If you love nature, this place is for you ♥️
Host picked me up from Tissa and was very welcoming. I was taken on a walking and motorcycle tour at dusk where I saw an elephant and a crocodile! I was kindly introduced to the host’s family and enjoyed tea with them. I would highly recommend the dinner of tuna curry, potato curry and side dishes. The accommodation was very cute, clean and I felt the full jungle experience. The hotel also kindly organised the safari tour which was incredible, I even saw a leopard. There is also a very friendly dog at the house who is so sweet !!
We had an unforgettable two-night stay at Yala Wild House, and I can't recommend it enough! The accommodation is perfectly nestled in the heart of nature, offering an immersive jungle experience. The wildlife here is abundant, with vibrant birds all around and the stunning starry skies at night—a true paradise for nature lovers. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, making for a peaceful retreat after a day of exploration. What really made our stay exceptional, though, was the owner. He is the most welcoming, kind-hearted person you'll ever meet, and his passion for Yala National Park shines through in everything he does. He went out of his way to make us feel at home, even helping us arrange a safari at a very reasonable price. The food was another highlight. The family serves up traditional Sri Lankan dishes that are both flavorful and satisfying. Every meal was a delight! If you're looking for a genuine, off-the-beaten-path experience in Yala, Yala Wild House is the place to stay. The combination of great hospitality, incredible surroundings, and delicious food makes it a truly special spot. Highly recommended!
Very Friendly family. Helps you with everything. Also cute dogs at the camp.
Everything
Lovely family run buisness! Super friendly/ helpful host and amazing food! The whole place is alive with birds, absolutely recommended. It's situated very close to yala national park and jeep tours can be arranged. Go and stay there, if you are not afraid of the odd frog in the bathroom or gecko at the wall. Also two v cute dogs!

Beautiful, authentic and wild place right next to the safari park. The host is fantastic, really kind and welcoming and made great food!! The place is rustic but very clean and all adds to the feeling of being immersed in the jungle.
Nothing
This is a beautiful place. It reflects the energy and imagination of the owners. These guys really know how to cook and the food is excellent. They worked very hard to make sure that I was happy.
It's really important to know that this is a VERY basic accommodation. You have electricity for a couple of hours each day. There is no hot water or wifi. Bats, etc. can get into you room at night. Mosquito nets are there to offer some protection. There is not a lot to do at Yala Wild Camp so bring friends so you can hang out together. I am a solo traveler and there were no other guests. The price is also very high for what they offer.
- Friendly staff who tried their best giving us a nice stay! Carrying our bags and removing several frogs from our room - We enjoyed the music they performed for us: great vibes! - Very remote experience in the middle of nature and very nice vegatable garden which they showed us.
We're writing this review not to be negative but just to share our experience as some was great but some was also absolutely not good. - We had to pay some money in advance so the guys could buy strong liquor. - We did a safari wich was nice but the Jeep was absolutely terrible: no suspension (so bumpy!!). Also the driver barely spoke any English which was extremely frustrating with misunderstandings and questions. - Room was ok but full of animals (ofcourse as you're in the jungle) but the matress is only 1.80M (not ideal) - They promised breakfast (we ended up paying ourself, included lunch at the safari (they tried charching us but eventually agreed on no-charge) and free drop-off (we ended up paying 3000 rupees for a TukTuk). - Room is very overpriced in our opinion
The breakfast was balanced and hearty, typical Sri Lankan fare The location was exceptional, a bit far from the center, but absolutely in the wilderness, you couldn't wish for better. The hosts were lovely and the rooms were like in the 70s, still built with lem and a huge tree grew through the middle of the bathroom. Very, very special and recommended to anyone who likes adventure
There is absolutely nothing to complain about, simply amazing
Very welcome host from the very beginning! We booked everything on site with him. Simple breakfast but delicious and freshly made!. Dimmer was extraordinary! We had quiet some rain bur the host helped us a lot to get back to the village after our stay!
Priyantha and his family gave us an experience we will never forget. The family was extremely friendly and hospitable and Priyantha and his son,Hansa, went above and beyond with their care for us. Communication after booking was excellent. As the location is off the main road and up a challenging but fun dirt track we were met at Yoda lake and followed Hansa to the accommodation, which is located 10 yards from the perimeter of Yala National park. As we were driving our rented Tuktuk,Priyantha and Hansa kindly drove us back to the local town and main roads at the end of our stay. We stayed 4 nights in an authentic mud house which is set in a wonderfully designed woodland setting.Rooms are very private, extremely peaceful and away from all the tourists. Priyantha provided plenty of excellent healthy food as and when you wanted it,you will not go hungry here.A fire was set for us to sit round every evening with the host providing authentic live music after dinner.Three of the healthiest and friendliest dogs belong to the family and will gladly lead you on the many walks available from the property. We saw an abundance of wildlife on the local walks, monkeys, deer, eagles, crocodiles to name but a few.Priyantha kindly took us traditional rod fishing, net fishing,to a secret beach where we were the only two people and were lucky enough to see an elephant very close to the beach in addition to a visit to a local monastery and local temple which had a unique twist.A full day safari tour was also organised by Priyantha with his very experienced and friendly driver,at a very reasonable price. We simply cannot recommend Yala wild house and farm high enough if your willing to embrace an experience never to be forgotten. Thank you Priyantha,Hansa,Loki, driver and family, you all went above and beyond to provide us with the most amazing experience.
Leaving!
A very wild house, built with love by the owner with total respect of the nature. The owner is kind, a very good cooker and made our stay as comfortable as possible. He makes you feel at home.
Everything was perfect
Host was excellent and friendly. Always accommodating. Location to Yala safari was brilliant. Host arranged full day of safari and pick up from camp. Food was delicious and varied Sri Lankan dishes.
Room was warm at night. Fan provided but still warm. I guess it is in the middle of the desert so to be expected.
This is a very wild house. Very kind owner. Do not expect a wifi. Rooms are nice, clean, with animals in it (gheco). Meals are very good, owner is a good chef.
This was such a special experience. The area was so calm and peaceful. We even saw a mouse deer right next to our house. We also got really spoilt with fruits, great food and beverages. Host organized a safari jeep and driver for us with packed breakfast and lunch during the Yala visit. We couldn't be more happy that we visited this amazing off grid oasis and would visit again.
wonderful authentic stay in the heart of the Yala wilderness with fantastic host and delicious food
on arrival, there was a man who was quite pushy in trying to convince us to go on safari with him even though we repeatedly explained we had already booked one
Such a cool place in the forest, next to the owners own vegetable farm. The owner and his family cooked amazing meals and showed us around to a nearby lake and their farm. I even got to pet their puppies! The host arranged a safari Jeep run by his brother, and the safari was cool, saw elephants, crocodiles, leopard, deers and buffalos. I really liked the vibe at this place and the feeling of being in the wilderness. the beds were very comfy and everything was so clean. Really recommend!
