Reviewed Sep 9, 2026You'll realise what a special place this is as soon as you arrive; we only stayed the one night and wish we'd stayed a bit longer to soak it all in.
Shashika and his wife are the perfect hosts, kind genuine and cooked up a feast for dinner. We loved the evening walk to see the crocodiles before dinner, accompanied by one of their dogs.
The rooms have all been sealed really well, which was a concern for my mum, and were comfortable and spotlessly clean. Thank you for such good memories in this place 😊

Reviewed Aug 3, 2026An excellent place in nature. This was just the perfect place to stay and go on Safari. The guy running it, Shashika, was an incredibly kind and thoughtful person, he put in lots of effort to make us feel welcome. The gorgeous dog Roe was also there to look after us
The room was very clean and fine for a family of four. The pool on the balcony was a perfect place to watch the sunset and cool off after an afternoon safari.
One of the highlights was the home cooked meal we had, very delicious and very locally sourced. All in a wonderful outdoor setting.
Shashika also prepared a packed breakfast for our dawn safari the next day which was a nice touch. He also offered us a walking tour around the property which we would have loved to do if we weren’t tight for time.
Overall a wonderful experience thank you

Reviewed Jul 20, 2026Food was excellent, Shashika and his mum are very good cooks and it’s real Sri Lankan food and it was good he gave us some treats (like ice cream bc it was so hot) for free!
It is one of the most unique places I have stayed in. Our room had the view of where the water buffaloes go, which was so surreal to watch them being ushered into the lake by the farmers and out everyday. Peacocks walked by and depending on the season it could be elephants! Nothing beats how unique it is. It’s literally a treehouse.
Next AMAZINF thing was the plunge pool which saved us from the heat, kt was so nice to have and cool to watch the wildlife from the pool. The location is great too u can see border of yala
U can also book jeep safari w Shashika, which is good, u can also book thru ur driver too but I think Shashika was best option bc hes right there and has knowledge himself or knows good drivers - he really looked after us in terms of food
They also have the cutest dog Ro!! 🐕 he was such a good boy and if u ever left by urself to go on a walk he will follow and protect u
In the off season, there was no air con whcih was very hard to deal with considering it’s a different heat in Yala. We didn’t get any sleep the first night because it was so hot in our room and (travelling w a group of 4 girls) - we were scared to leave doors and windows open as given its remote location, anything could come in! (We were brave enough thr second night though bc it was too hot.
Next thing is if it is off season, he doesn’t have card reader to pay card, we racked up a large bill because we ate all our food there and stayed in the family room, so it was hard getting cash out and also the exchange rate was 💩 so we ended up paying way more (somethjng to bare in mind)
Also some awkward moments w the host, but maybe cultural thing… I would stay here again but only if I knew the aircon was working hahaha or maybe not bc it was a really cool place to stay

Reviewed Mar 31, 2026A warm welcome from our host Shishika who is seeking to expand the facilities by building a couple of new rooms. We stayed in the tree house which was quite an experience - steep wooden stairs with an amazing view from the top, and built around the tree itself so the tree is in the middle of the room! We experienced wildlife first hand with a tiny tree frog appearing in our room as well as a small lizard – we had been warned and it was all part of the experience of being close to nature. We went to sleep to the sound of nightjars singing. The photos I've included were all taken in or around the grounds.
We were treated to a sunset walk around the area by the host who is passionate about wildlife and preserving the beauty of this area. This was followed by a delicious meal in the evening and we were also provided with a packed breakfast for our morning safari.
The space in the tree house is fairly limited which is not a problem for 1 or 2 days, but might feel a bit cramped in a longer stay

Die von ihm organisierte Jeep‑Safari war hervorragend, und wir hatten sogar das Glück, Leoparden zu sehen. Reviewed Mar 14, 2026I loved staying here - it's quirky and different and that made it really special. The host is so friendly and helpful and the food onsite is delicious and plentiful. Isn't it every child's dream to live in a tree house? The view from the balcony overlooking Yale National Park is special. Unfortunately, I was out on safaris for most of the time I was staying there, so I didn't really get to appreciate it fully.
It's not that I didn't like it, but as you would expect from a tree house, there are quite a few stairs and the last set is quite steep, so not for someone if you have difficulty with that. Also there is a tree in the middle of the room, which is part of the appeal for me, but might be tricky if you're tall and have to move around it.

Reviewed Mar 13, 2026The tree house at animal view point was a property full of character. The welcome and the care taken by Shishika and his family was fantastic. The food was very good and it was a real break from the hustle and bustle of Kandy and Ella. We went for an evening walk around the lakes and saw crocodiles, lots of beautiful birds and water buffalo, and were in a great location to get an early start for a safari into Yala block one. It was an amazing day, we saw 4 leopards and a sloth bear amongst many other animals. The hosts were more than happy to help with organising the safari and transfers.
The room is a character room and we were very happy there for two nights, but there isn’t much room, so just be aware it is snug and the bathroom is basic as it is up a tree.

Vanuit hier een prachtige safari door Yala, wat hij ook kan regelen. Avondwandeling met hem gemaakt, met sporen van de wilde dieren. Reviewed Aug 25, 2025If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind experience, this is the place to book! We stayed in the treehouse (unfortunately only one night) and it was unforgettable. Although small, it has everything you need: a nice shower, a comfortable bed with mosquito net, and a little terrace with stunning views. This place is heaven for nature lovers — frogs, lizards, and chipmunks wander around, which made the stay feel even more magical to us (though maybe not ideal for those who don’t enjoy wild nature).
What truly makes this place special are the hosts. They are among the kindest, hardest-working people I’ve ever met. I arrived with an injured leg, and they kept checking in on me and making sure I was okay. They also prepared a delicious dinner with local dishes and shared stories about their life and the area, which was fascinating. You can see how much love and effort they’ve put into their place.
Breakfast is available (even for early safari departures), and the host will happily help you arrange a tuktuk or taxi for your next journey.
We would absolutely come back — both for the unique treehouse and the amazing hospitality!

We arrived around 2pm and after a welcome drink we had a couple of hours to relax before we went for a guided sunset walk with Shashika around the local area. We then had a delicious dinner.
Shashika helped us to book a safari for the following day, and also a taxi to take us to our next location. He is so passionate about his business and keeping guests safe, and clearly works incredibly hard.
We had a truly fantastic time at this jungle retreat, it was an incredible and unique experience!
This review is based on what this stay is: a treehouse in the middle of the jungle. If you are expecting luxury air conditioned accommodation then this is not for you. You are in the middle of the jungle in a treehouse - it is incredible, but it is not luxurious. Occasional insects/small animals (e.g. frogs) can get into the treehouse. The mosquito net does a wonderful job of keeping you protected during the night, but if you don’t like the idea of being among nature, then you would likely not enjoy this stay. We really loved it, and if we are ever back in Sri Lanka we will come back to visit and to see Shashika. Thank you for everything!

Reviewed Dec 15, 2024Such a special place! Shashika, the host, goes above and beyond to make the stay memorable. In the late afternoon, after our safari in Yala, he walked with us to the nearby lagoons to look for crocodiles. When it got darker, he took us with his tuktuk to a place where we could watch bats (hundreds of them!) going for their nighttime hunt. The bungalow was cozy and a true nature experience (e.g. we had the occasional lizzard in the bathroom, which we loved). The food was amazing: in the evening, Shashika's mum made delicious curry, and in the morning, we had an authentic breakfast with special rice and a herbal drink. Shashika took so much time to give us a great exprience, and we will definitely remember this highly individual stay. As a farewell, we got to plant our own tree - we were so happy!
Nothing to complain. This place is a dream for everyone who enjoys a true nature "feeling-of-homestay" experience. This means it might not the right accomodation for someone who is looking for the comfort/anonymity of a larger hotel (e.g., no AC, currently only 2 rooms).
Really fun staying in a treehouse, it was well built safe and comfortable. The location was great, felt very wild and perfect for two days safari. Very accommodating staff.
Small space so two nights was enough. Sometimes felt a little overwhelmed by the staff. Not loads of space to relax other than the room.

Reviewed Nov 28, 2024Our stay at the tree house in Animal View Point is one of the biggest memories that we brought with us from Sri Lanka. The views are unbelievable beautiful. Also, there is even a shower in the tree house! Bed was perfect, the room was clean and fresh at night (we barely used the provided fan) and it had every amenity we needed.
Staff was friendly, helpful and fantastic people. Both breakfast and dinner were absolutely delicious home-made Sri Lankan food, we did enjoy every bite of it. Also, every single spot of the hotel was carefully planned and thought, everything sustainable and coming from local business.
I’d recommend this place to absolutely anyone that is looking for an authentic and real experience in Yala. We will definitely come back if we have the opportunity to.

Our first night he took us on a nighttime nature walk and gave us info about the area. It was beautiful walking underneath the stars and seeing the firefly tree. We even spotted a Rusty-Spotted Cat!
They arranged a safari for us the next day which was the highlight of our trip in Sri Lanka. Everything was perfect and we saw lots of buffalo, elephants (with their babies), the elusive leopard and even a black bear!
We stayed in the tree house and it was such a cool experience being among the treetops and taking in the incredible views. The bed was comfortable, there was hot water in the shower with shampoo & conditioner and bug spray provided.
We stayed 2 nights and wish it were longer. The grounds are beautiful and the food provided is healthy and absolutely delicious with an emphasis on local cuisine.

Reviewed Aug 26, 2024Shashika rolled out the red carpet for us, we couldn’t have felt more welcomed when we stayed with our 10 years old son. We had an amazing stay at animal view point, from the welcome apple wood drink to the Sri Lankan cookies his mother made for our son. Shashika even took us on a night walk where we saw fire flys light up the trees, spectacular! Dinner was incredible too, his mother made an authentic Sri Lankan meal which was beautiful. Shashika even organised the safari for us which was incredible, leopards, elephants, crocodiles and more! We had a great time at Animal Viewpoint couldn’t recommend enough.

We loved staying at Shashika’s property.
It’s a beautiful and well cared love nest.
The design is unique and it matched perfectly our “safari wild” mood.
The location is perfect if you want to live an extraordinary experience into the wild.
We slept in the tree house and it was just perfect and super clean and honestly it’s the first tree house we’ve e been with the toilet and the shower connected to the room.
It’s been amazing sleeping by the sounds of the wild jungle. Shashika’s mom cooked for us an incredible traditional dinner and Shashika was always there for any need. We built here such a beautiful memories that will stay with us forever. Thank you Shashika for being part of it.
The day after, we experienced the safari tour organized by the property and we ended our stay just perfectly.
We loved everything from the first moment we arrived. We have been impressed by all the perfect details of this place and by the kindness and dedication of the host.

Reviewed Mar 27, 2024We truly enjoyed our experience sleeping two nights at the tree house. The place is authentic and it’s just next to the border of Yala national park. For people who are looking for true Sri Lankan countryside experience near the jungle, this is the place for you! Excellent traditional Sri Lankan dishes cooked by their great chef complete your stay. The place can arrange great safari experience for you, including packed breakfast and having a private driver. If you are lucky enough your safari guide might be the first person who spotted the black leopard in Yala! We had his brother and he was also a great guide spotting many animals from crocodiles to elephants and smaller creatures of the park for us. He managed to find fresh leopard’s footprints, but this time we didn’t see a sight of wild cats. The owner is wonderful person who makes you feel like at home!
We didn’t find anything to complain. The place is remote and in our rating we have considered that the place is for persons who are nature-oriented and looking for authentic experience.

Reviewed Feb 16, 2024The place is fairly new (it was just 8 months old when we stayed there) so you can see it has been taken care of and it feels fresh.
The owner Shashika was very helpful, polite, and thoughtful.
The food was also one of the best we had in Sri Lanka, prepared by Shashika and his mom.
It was a valentine's day and we even got some presents 😁
If you are looking for a calm and peaceful place in Yala in the wild among animals this is the place to go.

The treehouse room offered a unique and immersive experience with stunning views of nature. The hospitality was exceptional, and Shashika went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Reviewed Jan 27, 2024Shashika is a fantastic host...kind, attentive, competent. He cares so deeply about the guest experience. The location offers stunning views. Walks by the lake at nighttime were a real treat, to see nightjars and elephants and countless others. The meals were exquisite, lovingly prepared by Shashika's mother and aunt. We will definitely be back. We couldn't have asked for a better stay. We are so keen to support this young, motivated entrepreneur who has 'got it right' when it comes to customer care. Thank you malli. You'll see us again many many times to come.
Nothing not to like. We were extremely happy as we knew what to expect based on location and photos. Those who need luxury hotel amenities should not expect those in places such as this.

Reviewed Dec 25, 2023We loved the handmade woodwork that the entire property has been finished with. Everything from curtain piles to shelves has been made from reclaimed wood, and is really awesome to look at and enjoy. See attached photos for an example. The hotel is pretty much brand new so it’s super clean and everything in our little mud hut worked perfectly! The owner is wonderful and extremely helpful and he can arrange a safari for you! The food was outstanding and the hospitality was 10/10. This is a brand new family business and has been put together with utmost love and attention. There are awesome little extras like shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom and good quality towels that I was not expecting! Wonderful location next to a lake and paddy fields and many opportunities to learn about farming lifestyles through the host!
We booked a Safari through this hotel - it was very crowded the day that we went so I would recommend trying to find out how busy the park is before you take one! This is at no fault of the hotel owner as it’s run by the Sri Lankan national park authority but is worth keeping in mind when you go to arrange your plans.
