Lovely and central. Breakfast had good selection, staff always friendly and very helpful, particularly as my husband is disabled. Enjoyed having balcony views.
Awkward getting wheelchair through doors.

Close to town , easy to access
Location
No A/C
Conveniently situated, rooms spacious and clean. Reception staff as helpful as they could be. Breakfast lovely.
Just minor things first room we had the hook was hanging off in shower room so nowhere to hang towels. Second room to remote didn’t work, we emailed to let them know and later received a response to say someone has been over but we didn’t hear the door. Very noisy during the night due to people shouting in street but thats just unfortunate
As always, I love staying here. Nice area, very quiet hotel and lovely views from balcony room.
The shower pressure was extremely poor in the morning. Rooms need to invest in air conditioning even with balcony room. Not enough mirrors.
Close to colchester castle so perfect for music events there.
Air con wasn't working and as windows hardly opened the room.was very warm
Very spacious lovely terrace and I was surprised being in middle of town that there wasn't noise once we closed our terrace door lovely hotel
Not much really
No air con, fan, milk for tea and coffee, lack of a decent mirror. As there is no fan or aircon, the windows have to be left open. Therefore, outside noise is an issue.
The location was fantastic, the large room, comfy bed and was large,
The wi fi was very poor, could barely load anything up
Location fantastic Clean and tidy Breakfast at the George great Easy fast check out
Spring on mattress sticking out loo roll holder came off wall Window needs attention All minor things we reported to reception Reception staff lovely
Hotel in centre of Colchester. Main hotel is where you eat. Room is across the road. Room was good size but backs onto street with busy pub.
The room was warm and if you opened the window the noise from the street was too loud until midnight Friday and 4am Sat/Sun
The stay was very disappointing. The room was very hot, and the towel had a strong oily smell, as if it had been used for a massage.
The stay was very disappointing. The room was very hot, and the towel had a strong oily smell, as if it had been used for a massage.
Very secure and clean easy to find
Nothing to dislike
Great, central location; clean, comfortable room
It was ideally located for a visit to Colchester castle.
It didn’t realise it was an unstaffed property and to get your key, reception and breakfast you had to walk up the road to a different hotel. The shower was cold. There were nasty stains on the floor and wall. It was very noisy at night
Ease of access Good breakfast(except veggie sausages weren't like a sausage - green beans and pepper in potato)
Directions for parking... didn't recall reading that booking in was in the George Hotel Lack of full length mirror(only mirror was in bathroom) Only 2 sachets of milk provided, which we didn't notice until late to do anything about it, so had to decide between late night drink or early cuppa!
Helpful receptionist at sister hotel. We had an initial room issue which she resolved speedily and effectively.
L emplacement central.
Central location. Clean room. Good service
Fan in room broken. Shower weak did not give good flow
Great stay, excellent location and staff were so friendly and helpful.
Great location and the beds were comfortable.
Me and my girlfriend both had diarrhoea the day after having a cup of tea to realise the milk was 2 months past its best before date
Felt safe and bed were very comfortable with enough pillows
No mirror in the room and the cleaners did not come in the two days we were there
The room was clean and spacious. The location was not for us.
The location was not for us. The noise surrounding the hotel was far too noisy and went on until 1.30am. Now if you are a party going and are out drinking and making lots of noise then please do join them and stay here. If you want a nice night away do not stay here.
Hotel was easy to find, parking was adequate, and the location was central to all attractions around the area.
The nightclub music late into the night nearby.
Good location
No air con, rude staff at breakfast, rooms were dirty
Location
Lack of parking, lack of temperature control in rooms, shower scaled up so almost no jets working.
The location was great, it was easy to check in and out , the room was clean and nice
Too hot with windows shut and too noisy with windows open. The temperature in the room was 30 degrees
Room was great, facilities where great
The price. Just feel for what we got was not what we paid for.
La posizione molto comoda e centrale, se vi muovete con i mezzi scendete a Colchester town e sarete vicinissimi. La fermata Colchester è molto più lontana. Vari locali in zona.
Positives: 1) A balcony with a view of the High Street and Castle that was relatively cool in the hot weather 2) Great location in the centre of the city Negatives: 1) No fridge in the room. This doesn't make any sense at all especially because the hotel not having it's own reception, is an overflow for the George Hotel across the road. So it is relatively remote. Anything that helps the guests of the St. Nicholas hotel be more self sufficient should surely be a consideration. 2) The provision of two sachets of milk and three English Breakfast tea bags after the room was "refreshed" each day just isn't enough. We had to ask the receptionists and housekeepers repeatedly for more during our four night stay. The housekeeper was rude on one occasion. All the while, there is a Nisa store just across the road. I'd have happily bought milk and teabags, but there's no fridge in the room. 3) Thw shower didn't work properly 4) The carpets in the communal areas were stained giving the appearance of a seedy hotel 5) Someone banged on our door in the middle of the night on two occasions, shouting in a distressful way. We alerted the receptionist to this in the morning. She said nothing had been reported and night staff walk round regularly.
The actual location within Colchester is good. The room itself was nice and clean and a reasonable size. The housekeeping staff were fine.
The outside noise, shouting, screaming and moaning, from homeless and drug affected people made it difficult to sleep. It is also confronting and intimidating to have to tiptoe around these people when they are camped literally outside the hotel front. The hotel is not staffed other than when the cleaners are in attendance. The automatic sliding front doors take an age to close behind you after entering with the key card, so long in fact that we were startled by three people running through those doors from the across the street behind us just to get inside before the doors closed. What with putting up with the anti-social people outside and the feeling of being unsafe from lack of security we requested a move across the road to the George Hotel. Fortunately the reception staff there reviewed their CCTV footage and could understand our concerns. We moved to a room in the George Hotel and immediately felt much safer. The lack of aircon can be an issue. A fan in the bathroom is needed for the toilet and shower, which steamed up the mirror. We would not open the windows because of street noise.
Dirty room
Everything location room parking price
The room was accessible and spacious.
Too much noise from outside. Not the hotel's fault, but it was a bit of a struggle to sleep.
The room was big and spacious it was clean too. Warm enough. Close to shopping district
The noisiest hotel is have ever been. The noise coming from outside... friday 530am i woke up to the sound of a reversing truck. Friday night I could hear very loud music from clubs close by in my room I couldn't sleep. I felt like I was outside with the noise. The lift and the carpet by the highstreet entrance was dirty. Didn't give justice to the cleanliness inside the rooms and rest of the floor. Comparing with their other hotel The George I never had any issues with noise, except that they had elevator and I have a baby stroller.
Nice clean rooms.. we love the rooms with the balcony. Great location, lovely breakfast 😋
It was a very hot evening, but the fan in the room was a waist of time
No fridge in room.
Good central location. Rooms were clear and tidy.
Over sensitive fire alarm. There were warnings that it would go off if the bathroom doors were open and the shower running but the shower stayed very steamy so it’s not surprising it went off. Not once but twice. Staff seemed to know this was a major issue. Good to know the fire alarm works but it was too sensitive. Rooms were also very hot.
Location in the centre
Nothing
Comfortable room. Central location.
Room was great with a large balcony overlooking the high street. It was very clean and comfortable although the entrance and lift area were 'tired' and a little dirty. The location was very good and central for all the local amenities. It was good value for money and I would recommend as a reasonable place to stay and ideal if you are attending a function in the town.
The breakfast was mediocre and the coffee tasted nasty. The staff were very nice though.
Parfait rien à dire, très propre, bien isolé, personnel très agréable
Rien
Amazing value for a cheap price. Room was big as well same toilet. Location right on the High Street so close to everything. Probably best accommodation I ever got for a budget in UK. Well done !
Frankie was a fantastic customer service representative who went out of her way to help accommodate my early check-in request and made it as smooth as possible for the multiple rooms I had booked. Thank you for your help and the great communication you provided.
The rooms look dated and the chairs in the rooms were stained which weren't appealing to sit on. Also, there was a temperature gauge in the room that looked like a thermostat. Unfortunately there was no air-con installed so it basically was just a temperature gauge which seemed extremely pointless other than to tell you it was 25c in the room...
Well worth the cost
Goede locatie en ruime kamer.
Geen airconditioning en mini koelkast aanwezig.
A very nice hotel. Modern , clean and comfortable. Friendly staff. Very good breakfast included.o Right in the Centre, close to all amenities e.g pubs, hotels, restaurants and Cafes. Plenty to choose from. Even the Castle and Museums close by. The Castle Park is huge, lovely to walk round if the weather is good! Public transport very good too to visit various places.
Nothing to say here.
Lovely stay in a lovely property. Very comfortable room and very convenient location too. Check in is over the road at The George but this was no issue whatsoever as the staff were incredibly pleasant & will also store a bag for you for the day if required. The hotel itself feels very safe & secure as you need your keycard to actually enter the building.
confort et emplacement
chauffage non réglable très chaud dans la chambre
Clean
Noisy
Easy, clean, good value
Noisy as right on the high street .. but expected that and can’t be helped. Took earplugs !
Great location.
Not much
Most of it
The room was very spacious and lots of natural lighting Nice big window that were easy to open
My Tv didn’t work but I was really bothered. I had my iPad.
Nice bedroom, big enough. Have a windows. Shower & bath 🛀 TV and kettle.
If you like to stay in new design rooms, there is that hotel.
The room was a good size and comfortable. The balcony view was a big bonus.
Tea and coffee provision was minimal and breakfast in the George was limited.
Overal dichtbij
Zeer lawaai van de omgeving
Nice room ,clean ,spacious
The noise from the street was unbearable. I wouldn't stay again because of this
Comfortable, good rooms and location
No parking, had a dirty towel in the room what looked like shit stained Check in staff wasn’t able to find my booking and it was hard to get around
Lovely spacious room and Great location and a lovely bar area
We stayed Saturday and Sunday night unfortunately Sunday tbe room was not refreshed or the tea coffee loo roll replenished
Excellent location but everything else is pretty average. There are two jointly managed hotels on opposite sides of the street. The George is the old inn which has a bar and reception. The St Nicholas is over the road and just a bland anonymous sub-Premier Inn with swipe card entry and a labyrinth of corridors and rooms. It's tidy and overall pretty clean but utterly soulless. There is supposed to be someone on site at all times but the only other humans we saw were the rude housekeepers banging on our doors at 10:55 shouting "YOU HAVE TO LEAVE NOW"! Good morning to you too! There's a little bit of street noise (we were there Friday night) but you have to expect that being right in the town centre and it didn't continue late. There's a small Pay & Display car park hidden around the back of The George. You have to look for it but that's the best place to park - £12 for 24 hours and there's a slow EV charger too. If you miss the small sign for it then you have to do a go-around on the one-way system so keep a careful look out for it - on the left just after the George down a tiny side street. If you just want somewhere clean and in a central location then this is good value, but if you want somewhere with any charm at all then look elsewhere.
Cómodo, acogedor
Me gustó todo.
clean, nice shower, had a hairdryer, comfy bed, staff were nice
can't think of anything
Always stay here we love it
Not a good place for people who goes to bed early but that’s never a problem for us
Great and spacious room. Great staff and perfect location. Really happy with the team.
Everything was spot on
Location and cleanliness
Nothing
Room was spacious and very clean
Location and size of the room
Secure only able to get in with Key cards Spacious, clean
Not being told about having to check in at another hotel.
Got know sleep very noisy coming from the street all night.
The room was perfect 👌
The location and security
The heat
Great location good value for money well appointed room.
Bed and bit firm for our taste.
The Location and the noise isolation is good. Rhe safety is good.
The staff is very slow reaction. Have to wait very long time to see a staff show up or notice the customers are waiting. I understand in British culture that it is very rude to call or ask for staff to show up but this needs to be built upon the staff should be sensitive to the venue. The hotel is managed by a pub but the reception location is difficult to find. There is no sign saying the hotel should be checked in the reception.
Location price and cleanliness
Noise from bars until late kept me awake
Good location and very simple
Sheets had a stain
Central location, convenient to walk everywhere we wanted to get to.
Inability to control temperature in the room. It was very warm, we slept with the window open and a fan blowing ( in February!!!) Noise outside (made worse because we had to have the window open)
That is was close to where we were going
Nothing
Prime location
A bit noisy as room was facing three wise monkeys pub
On the plus side. Great location. The guy at reception was excellent. The room is very, modern, clean and fittings to a good standard. However, if you want to sleep forget it. I am lying here typing this at 11.40pm, sirens from police/ambulance periodically wailing outside, noise from traffic and club music booming away across the street. No chance of sleeping until 1am (maybe later) I suspect. Paying the price for being on the High Street on a Saturday. It's a pity, as it very good accomodation in totally the wrong location. If they want to get decent reviews they need (as a minimum) to get better sound proofing for the windows.
It was clean and modern, right in the centre of the town too.
Trying to gain access through the doors with keycards that didn’t always want to work was annoying.
