Excellent location, unbelievably warm and professional service/guest approach. Lovely rooms, comfortable bed, also great breakfast choice and personalised service. Very cosy lounge bar open Wednesday-Sunday evenings. My home away from home ( West Australia ). Vivien.
We visited today with a luxury afternoon tea voucher, and enjoyed the best afternoon tea that we've ever had! We sat in the lovely bay window and watched the World go by whilst eating. Nothing was too much trouble. It was well presented, freshly prepared, with so much choice. We can't fault the welcome and hospitality that we received and will definitely return in the future. We highly recommend the food, ambience and friendly hosts. Thank you
Excellent service high tea was delicious. Surprised how many people were having afternoon tea, proof of its popularity.
From the first booking phone call, till being shown out of the door, after a delicious afternoon tea experience, couldn’t have been catered for any better. The service from Daniel was warm, courteous, and attentive. Quality ingredients in the generous sandwich fillings, with exquisite sweet treats to follow.
I had a lovely stay at the Colchester Boutique Hotel! The location is perfect — right in the heart of town, close to everything. The hotel has so much charm and character, and each room is unique and welcoming. The staff were incredibly friendly and made me feel right at home from the moment I arrived. My room was spotless, stylish, and very comfortable, with nice little touches like bottled water and great coffee. Breakfast was fresh, delicious, and the perfect start to the day. Overall, a beautiful hotel with a great atmosphere and wonderful service. I’d definitely stay here again next time I’m in Colchester!
Nice friendly place to stay with excellent value for the city center
Excellent small hotel. Very attentive staff. Updated bathroom. Vintage features. Easy walking distance to High Street and City Centre.
The people working there were the best part of the stay. The room was hot and without temperature control, other than opening a window. Since the windows easily accessible from outside in this single room, it didn't feel safe to leave open while sleeping. No working additional lock on door, including a security bar. The bathroom was nice with a shower that actually kept the water in it rather than all over the floor, unlike most places in the UK. However, light over the sink could be improved. The room was small and I will rethink booking a twin bed in future. Parking is available for free, but access requires some skill as the driveway is VERY narrow, requiring mirrors to be pulled in. The location is good.
Had difficulty finding a central hotel that was not too noisy at night. This one proved wonderfully quiet and discretely positioned with handy parking in the centre of town (provided you are a confident driver for the narrow entrance, and don’t come up the bus lane by mistake!). Friendly, helpful staff and comfortable, clean facilities with plenty of character.
Short walk to town centre and onsite parking. Room and ensuite clean and comfortable. Air conditioning and radiator in room. Staff all helpful and friendly. Only downside is the room was at the front of the hotel so very noisy from traffic and pedestrians. The property is listed so has single glazed windows. Very good choice for continental breakfast with plenty of fresh fruit etc. Had a fantastic meal in the attached Indian restaurant. We would stay here again but would ask for a room at the back of the hotel which would hopefully be quieter.
The room and the food and it’s woz a safe place
We went for afternoon tea and had a wonderful experience. Staff were very friendly and attentive, and the food was fresh and delicious. Hotel appeared clean and tidy throughout.
What an amazing weaken the staff team are so friendly and approachable excellent interpersonal skills, spent some excellent time on the outdoor sun area drinking beer and chilling before the concert near by the chef came out to us and prepared a damn fine meal which was not on the menu but a request from us and he was brilliant , this just showed me that the big corporate hotels have a lot to learn form little gold nuggets like the boutique Hotel will be back again and looking forward to it
Perfect friendly hotel! The staff were amazing, especially Danny the General Manager and also Daniella from the restaurant. The hotel is small but has everything one would need. The food was outstanding - delicious Indian cuisine - compliments to the chef! Lovely outdoor space. Couldn’t fault the place and will definitely stay here again!
Excellent customer service. Comfortable and clean
I was very well looked after on a one night stay. The bed was comfortable, the staff were very kind and I enjoyed a delicious indian meal in their restaurant.
The host was so friendly and welcoming. The cleanliness was also fab.
Very nice hotel located close to High Street. The friendly staff goes the extra mile to make people feel at home. Highly recommended and would always be my first option when going back to Colchester.
Staff- Roland was vey attentive and hospitable and is the face of the hotel, thank you Roland you wishing me a good day at work was a highlight of my visit Breakfast- continental breakfast was very extensive and the best I have had lots of choice, crumpets, bread, pancakes, bagels, every cereals you could desire, lots of fresh fruit including assorted berries, meats and cheese and scrambled eggs etc etc etc you will not go hungry or get bored Room- I was in room 2 a single room small but perfectly formed, tea and coffee, still and sparkling water, ice on request, biscuits and complimentary toiletries, fan hairdryer and safe in room, very quiet as room is in the back and bed was so comfy, shower hot and towels fluffy, room was cleaned and replenished every day. Location- just off the high street, walkable to range of restaurants and the college and institute, lots of things to see and do in walking distance, station not far. Colchester- lovely place to visit and people so nice, helpful and friendly, I was here for a week for work and the people I met made it ( Roland you are an asset to the hotel)
We checked into room 1 on the ground floor near the car park. Very clean and comfy room. Check in went smoothly and breakfast was continental and substantial. We dined a few doors down at The Noodle House for dinner with locals, and oh my gosh it was absolutely delicious. Loved that the hotel provided 2 large bottles of water, tea coffee and even cookies. Right in the heart of town.
The car park, which we were very grateful for was so incredibly narrow. We were driving a Hyundai Kona
We were given a cream tea experience as a Christmas present and we chose the Colchester boutique hotel , boy were we glad we did the food was great as was the service (Andy) and it was a wonderful experience in a lovely hotel
The general manager Danny, was an absolute diamond. He was so friendly, welcoming and attentive that he made our stay extra special. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and had everything that you needed. The breakfast was a fantastic spread, something for everyone.
We stayed here at the weekend as a large group for a hen party. Danny was amazing, so helpful and attentive. The rooms were immaculately clean and the beds super comfortable. Excellent location for what we needed. Will definitely be returning, thank you!
Location Bathroom
Aircon was not strong enough. Twice I had to get room card reactivated because it wasn’t activated for the full duration of the visit. No room service. Towels not replaced everyday. Nespresso capsules never replaced. There were only 4 to begin with. Wasn’t given a full tour upon arrival had to ask where breakfast was served.
Lovely historic buildings centrally located yet very quiet, despite being only a very short walk from the centre of town. It was a welcome bonus to have free parking on site, locked and secure at night. The interiors are clean and well decorated and in keeping with the age of the buildings. Very helpful and attentive staff, and a good range of options available for the continental breakfast. A most enjoyable stay,
Lovely breakfast with friendly service, very pleasant cleaner, location excellent
Room was a bit odd, a little mould on the blinds, little storage space for 2 people
Location and parking
Very warm room, small bathroom
Breakfast was perfect - served with a smile from friendly staff. Big choice of breads and nibbles!
Great Manager And friendly staff
Access to parking is tricky
My husband and I had afternoon tea at this quaint hotel in Colchester. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The hotel is absolutely beautiful inside. Our afternoon tea was delicious. We enjoyed the atmosphere and felt relaxed listening to music while savouring our afternoon tea. We will certainly come again.
From our arrival to departure the hotel hosts, Rowland and Daniel, were very helpful and entertaining! Free parking too.
The location and ability to park safely over night
Friendly helpful staff, who were happy to help with local information. It is situated more or less in the City (Town) centre. About 20 minutes walk from both Colchester Rail Stations. The restaurant was not open on the nights I stayed, but it's so close to many restaurants it was not a problem.
It rained !! If you are tall, I recommend telling them when you book, it's a very old building and my room had a low ceiling in places. Again, not really a problem.
Very good and extensive breakfast. Good choice and friendly staff. Very welcoming arrival with personal explanation and
Lifesavers. I booked a work trip through my company app, but for whatever reason the booking never made it out of the app to the hotel! However Danny the hotel manager was on hand and ready to save the day! He got me booked in right then and there and made sure my stay was perfect. Later that same day Danny also gave me tips on the best places to eat and some of the local sights. My room was lovely with a 4-post bed and no noise. Danny made sure my stay was brilliant and went above and beyond to get me booked in! Thanks for the amazing service!
My wife and I had afternoon tea at the Colchester Boutique Hotel in May 25. The food and drink was very well prepared and presented, and tasted wonderful. The restaurant was very comfortable and the service was spot on. The General Manager, Daniel, was hilarious, he was very engaging and told some very funny stories. When we finished our tea he took us on a tour of the hotel, it is surprisingly large and very well appointed, my wife and I will definitely find an excuse to stay there!

Small dirty Room Shabby chic without the chic
Fabulous friendly staff. Daniel the GM was aa wonderful host, fabulous continental breakfast, excellent location, comfy bed, all fantastic.
The gateway to the car park. Pretty scary trying to squeeze through, but then it is an authentic 18th Century coaching inn.
Lovely big room in the old stable house. Very nice staff (Daniel was so lovely and helpful), I’m not usually a fan of continental breakfast but the array of food was brilliant and fresh The hotel has free parking and is really central so we can easily get to everywhere. An all round very pleasant stay on a very short trip to Colchester.
The room was smaller than we expected but we adapted so OK They soon resolved a problem of no heating. Breakfast was great - try the scrambled egg maker! Staff were very friendly and helpful Quite quirky so might not be to everyone's taste, but we would go back again Really close to the main shops and restaurants etc (5 min walk)
Continental breakfast was nice and the location good and the fact you could park on property
The one drawback was we couldn’t open the window at night
It was a lovely place to stay very quiet but there was a small problem couple above us was a bit noisy, also you could hear when they using the shower and flushing the toilet apart from that we had a good 2 day stay
lovely hotel
Everything is ok. The hotel is a very nice traditional old building, it also has an open space with tables where you can have breakfast or smoke. My room was on the ground floor and I could go in the garden. The room was very, very nice with a big bathroom. There is a corner with kettle and coffee, biscuits and they are refreshed every day. The staff is perfect, they waited for me until 1a.m. because my flight was late. They are always helpful and very kind. The cleaning is daily and very accurate. The hotel is in the centre of Colchester. Good price and good breakfast, too. So everything is perfect.
Nothing
Good continental breakfast. Great location for city with free parking
Friendly and convenient. Good parking facilities.
Decor dated. Was OK but expensive for a basic/pleasant hotel. Felt more like a b&b than "boutique hotel".
Good location for the center of town and the theatre. Nice ground floor twin room with lovely shower room. Very nice breakfast. Staff and hotel manager very pleasant. Will return.
Great location, great continental breakfast, knowledgeable friendly staff, safe parking.
Shower door in our small room at rear of property, dangerous, the cross member the shower door is hinged from is at about 1.7 M from the floor, I'm average height 1.77M tall, hence hitting my head on the.
Very nice, quirky hotel. Small and intimate. Room was nice, breakfast was excellent and staff very friendly. Location is excellent too, definitely the best side of town with some good restaurants. Recommended.
Nothing to dislike
I had my 30th birthday party at this beautiful hotel and it was amazing from start to finish. Daniel and his team went above and beyond. I am blown away with how incredible they all was. The hotel rooms are fantastic and the breakfast was brilliant. Thank you all so much for the best time. It will stay with me, my family and friends forever.
Had a lovely stay, great location with comfy and quiet rooms. Staff were great too 😁
What a fabulous hotel, right in the centre of Colchester, and with the real bonus of a car park. Beautiful buildings with comfortable, clean and well furnished rooms. The manager, Daniel, was so helpful with information about the hotel and Colchester in general. All the hotel staff, Roland and the ladies, were amazing. As was the famous continental breakfast; with juices, teas and coffees .Plenty of delicious fruit, cereals and an extensive choice of cheeses and cold meats. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for your stay in Colchester....you will not be disappointed.
Location, parking, breakfast, host was very helpfull
Honestly.. nothing
What a beautiful hotel. Fantastic location near city centre - and with a car park. The manager Daniel was so helpful, with information about the hotel and what to do in Colchester. The hotel staff; Roland and the ladies, were also amazing. The famous Continental Breakfast was just that - amazing. Plenty of choice to set you up for the day. No hesitation in recommending Boutique Hotel Colchester.
Great location. Good breakfast.
Single beds were of the small variety. My daughter's bed is wider. Did the job but maybe the room would be better with a double bed but then it would not have been good for sharing with my daughter.
Daniel went above and beyond when we had to stay on for an extra day. could not have asked for better, Fantastic host and the breakfast was brilliant, the decor and cleanliness is amazing. Spot on, you won’t be disappointed 👍
Nothing
Amazing location and friendly staff
Decoration tired, small room, mattress uncomfortable
Fantastic Stay, couldn't have done anymore for us. Roland, James and Daniel were great hosts, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was continental with a great selection. The hotel is a historical building and is full of history. We will be back again !
It was a very old property, nice garden room was spacious and comfortable great shower yummy breakfast everything you needed so fresh even catered for me (dairy free) staff were welcoming and friendly nothing was too much trouble free parking in a secure car park which was an added bonus for the city
The only thing was the heating couldn’t turn it off but could open the window
Colchester Boutique Hotel, a rather lovely 300 year old property just off the high street, our room was an outhouse out the back by the courtyard garden. Twin beds which were comfortable and a spacious bathroom with waterfall head shower, only negative was heating on full and not able to turn off. Staff were friendly and chatty and nothing was too much for them to do. Breakfast was amazing. 5 stars would stay here again!!!
Delicious breakfast with lots of choice, very friendly staff
Driving through the entrance to the car park, it's a bit tight but the staff were super helpful!
Location, room, staff and breakfast.

Continental breakfast outstanding Quirky room. Floors and walls all over Narrow entrance to the car parking due to being a horse coach entrance
Too much furniture in the room No hanging area
Afternoon tea was great...very attentive staff, especially Roland gave us a bunch of information about what's going on in the area... He even gave us a tour of the hotel including the rooms, for future reference. Top class food and service.
Staff was very helpful, very accommodating and going out of their way to make my stay comfortable.
Excellent central location for walking around Colchester. Parking on site was perfect for us although the entrance would not have been comfortable for a larger car.
We were misinformed by Booking.com that in order to obtain a room with en suite facilities we needed to upgrade. The upgrade misinformed the hotel that we wanted a twin bedded room. On arrival we found that all rooms were en suite (so we had unnecessarily paid for the upgrade) and we didn't want a twin bedded room. The manager quickly sorted out the problem for us and was extremely helpful in making sure we had a very nice room and stay.
The Staff were friendly and attentive. Excellent continental breakfast. I would highly recommend a stay here.
Fantastic location. Warm welcome and was able to check in early.
Nothing it was lovely
Breakfast was excellent as was the gentleman Roland/Ronald who appeared to be there 24 hours a day. He was polite, helpful and informative about the area. Nothing was too much trouble. (I was less impressed with the European gentleman who was very defensive.) The only food served was a continental breakfast and it had a good range of meat, cheese and bread products as well as a good selection of cereal. maple syrup for the pancakes was excellednt and I was impreseed with the way that the food was kept topped up at all times. The fresh fruit was excellent and well served. I would be happy to go back for the breakfast. Once the heat and air freshner problem was sorted out, I had no problem with the place and as I said Roland was lovely, as was his colleague who carried the cases to the room.
The heat in the room on arrival. When we asked if it could be turned down we were told that previous people had broken the radiator control. After half an hour or so of trying to fix it (without any apology) and me sitting outside as I was struglling to breathe they turned the main heat off and we were told to leave the door and windows open. The air freshner / cleaner used was also very strong and set my breathing problems off. Luckily this also disappeared when we left the door and window open. I am just glad it was not raining. Once the heat was sorted out and we did not have to see the second man the stay was enjoyable. The restaurant was closed and apparently had been since Covid but this was not clear on the website at the time of booking. The twin room we had was small but it did have a very modern and efficient shower. The room was definitely showing signs of needing to be updated/painted where there had been a leak. The towels were quite ragged and frayed at the edges but were replaced daily.
An ex 300 year old solicitors office converted to a comfortable hotel oozing charm. Friendly staff. We booked 4 nights mid week and were pleasantly surprised by the location and the free car park. You are literally 100 yards from town but far enough for it to be quiet at night. Restaurants and bars are just a short walk away. Highly recommend.
Location was superb Breakfast was beautiful fresh fruits everything ready to have service was wonderful
Nothing
This is such a unique place to stay . Absolutely beautiful and spotlessly clean. Continental breakfast was superb. We will be back. Staff are as unique as the building so nice helpful chatty smiling what a great place to stay . Thank you all so much
Quaint hotel with great service ! We had a lovely afternoon tea here - it wash nicely presented and our requests for no mayo / mustard were no problem. Some parking behind the hotel - you’d struggle to pass through the ‘horse and carriage style’ entrance with a modern wider car / tank / mummy wagon 😂
Breakfast was continental it was lovely great selection of breads pastries meats cheese jams preserves fruit ect we couldn't ask for more excellent staff were very helpful kind and courteous towards us the boutique hotel was beautiful colchester is a beautiful historic city and we hope to be back that way soon to see James Roland and Daniel who are very exceptional people who made our short stay very enjoyable
Their was nothing that we didn't like it was excellent excellent from the time we arrived until we departed
Great location 👌 comfortable bed 🛌 great shower 🚿
Access to the car 🚗 parking is very tight 😳 don't attempt if you have a large vehicle. No cooked breakfast available 😢
This was a very pleasant stay.. The staff were very welcoming, and always available. The room had a very comfortable, homely feel and Breakfast was lovely. We will definitely stay again.
Beautiful 300 year old building, full of character and charm. Very clean, very chilled and very comfortable. The staff were lovely and knowledgeable with up coming events etc. Extremely good continental breakfast
There's nothing to dislike.
Relaxed atmosphere, lovely staff and gentle music, nice selection on the afternoon tea and catered for vegetarian without a problem. Right on north hill but didn't hear any traffic at all. Bit strange to go outside to get to the loo but it was fine.
Great location, beautiful building, friendly staff, clean comfy room.
Very comfortable room with character, very welcoming staff, very well placed in city centre but it was nice and quiet! Extensive continental breakfast with cold meats and cheese as well as croissants and cereals. Very good value. Recommended!
It is a charming period building, well located, with easy access to cultural sites, shops, pubs and restaurants. The room was small, but clean, comfortable and fully equipped.
The lighting between the main building and the accommodation block was pretty dim. Brighter lighting over the path would help.
