Reviewed Aug 22, 2026There were lots of animals there that the kids could pet, feed, interact with which we were not expecting. You walked through a field with pigs, deer, and sheep to get to the tennis court which was a fun experience! Big kitchen with lots of fridge space and friendly staff.
The room was very small and cold, but there was a space heater that helped.

Reviewed Aug 15, 2026I had a really nice stay at Juno Hall. The room and common areas were very comfortable and relaxing, and the staff were very kind and helpful. They gave me rides to and from the bus stop, and also to the Waitomo caves. They also let me stay at the hostel after check-out until it was time for my bus. I really appreciated their kindness. Thank you!

Reviewed Aug 13, 2026La struttura e il personale sono molto accoglienti. La sala comune ha una bellissima vista sui campi da cui si vedono pascoli e animali. La veranda è perfetta per rilassarsi. Abbiamo avuto un upgrade della camera (bagno privato) che abbiamo apprezzato molto.

Reviewed May 24, 2026The room is cozy with comfortable beds. Just love the lounge with the fireplace in the middle. Snuggling on the couch in a warm place makes your journey in this beautiful country even nicer. And the kitchen is so clean and well organised. You can basically find all you need for cooking.

Reviewed Apr 7, 2026Beautiful and spacious common space with games and DVDs; very well-organized and well-equipped kitchen; friendly staff and a lovely little dog! The place was also very clean and welcoming.
The beds are hostel-grade, so the mattresses aren't that great, but the bunk beds are not wobbly, which is very good! A small individual lamp and a curtain at the bed would be nice bonuses.

Reviewed Mar 15, 2026Sehr schön gelegen, mit tollem Außenbereich und Sicht auf eine Weide mit Tieren. Direkt gegenüber ist der Ausgangspunkt für das Black Water Rafting. Die Küche war gut ausgestattet.
Wenn jemand im Flur am Zimmer vorbeiläuft war es abends/nachts ziemlich laut.

Our private room door (room 8) did not lock at all, the keys were useless.

- Location is convenient to visit Waitomo area if you have a car, but the hostel is not in town so buy your groceries before coming.

Reviewed Mar 9, 2026Schöne Lodge, alles sehr sauber. Die Küche ist super ausgestattet. Die ganze Anlage ist super gepflegt und schön im grünen gelegen. Es gibt sogar einen Tennisplatz den man kostenlos nutzen kann und einen Swimmingpool.
Die Matratze war nicht sonderlich bequem.

Reviewed Mar 8, 2026I stayed there for one night during a road trip. The room and facilities were clean and the staff were very friendly. Well equipped kitchen with multiple stoves, so no need to wait for your turn to cook. The hostel is conveniently located near Waitomo Caves and other attractions. Good value for money. I would stay there again.
The bed in my room was okay but not super comfortable. There was no air condition in the room, which made it quite hot inside at the beginning. That said, by opening the window at night this didn't bother my sleep.

Reviewed Mar 3, 2026The check in was a breeze, the staff really helpful regarding our plans in the area, offered to help us book our tours for the following day and helped us find somewhere to eat that evening as we arrived unprepared. The bathrooms were clean and the kitchen well-stocked. There's a great wrap-around porch so you can sit outside with wine or coffee and enjoy the views of the countryside. It's a really great location.
It might already be on the website so maybe this is my own fault but we should've picked up food from the supermarket to cook before we arrived, en-route to the location as it is pretty isolated but it was only a 20-30 min drive back to the nearest town for supplies (dinner and breakfast) so not the end of the world.

Zu viele Spinnen im Zimmer & die Kühlschränke hätten für meinen Geschmack sauberer sein können.

The beds were the only problem, but it's an important one. Bunks need an upgrade to firm supportive mattresses for a comfortable night's sleep. I found a better mattress the 2nd night and slept easier but others talked of similar issues.

Reviewed Jan 10, 2026The hostel was super clean. The common room couches were comfy. The kitchen was huge with lots of things to use. The pool was the perfect temperature. The tennis court offered an amazing view (and we wished there was a gazebo or something up that hill!) The sheep and pigs and deer were fun. The staff were really nice, friendly and helpful.
It was a bit of distance from town, but right across the street from our glowworm excursion. This isn't really a downside. There was not much free space in the room for our bags and us, but it was our first night all staying together and we hadn't worked out our own processes yet.

Ça donne envie d'y rester et de discuter avec les gens. Il y a plus que nécessaire en ustensiles dans la cuisine, c'est agréable.
Les lits ne sont pas confortables..on voit qu'il y a de l'usure.

Reviewed Jan 1, 2026The hostel is perfectly located for visiting the Waitomo caves. The staff were welcoming and lovely, while my private room was clean and had easy access to the shared bathrooms.
The only limitations of this hostel are the private rooms are quite small so if you have multiple suitcases it will be a tight squeeze.
