Advertising was great, room size generous and very clean! One male food server and room attendant was brilliant. View on the beach stunning, peaceful area. Warm welcome and clear communication. Sadly that is the best of a terrible experience!
The manageress appeared great at first, until I complained. Then she went feral on me. Pool was dirty, appeared unhygienic. I asked if it will be cleaned today, she said she will phone her maintenance team to check and come back to me. She never came back. Breakfast for ‘no meat no fish’ was chicken sausages and bacon. Toast, croissant, small fruit platter. Sri Lankan breakfast was initially offered but then that offer was taken away. Buffet unavailable, assuming because small numbers staying that day. We drove a tuk tuk that was arranged to be collected at Aprota before check out, the manager refused to allow this on the morning of check out. She phoned the rental company and told them no this cannot happen. Who knows how she got her position, but she is not fit for the role. Property grounds are overgrown and not kept as the photos suggest. Overgrown trees, sweat stained sun loungers. Reception is immaculate. The property is a poorly maintained property being sold at a premium price, marketed as a peaceful resort. It’s an absolute nightmare. I urge you not to waste money like we just have. A small hotel in central Arugam Bay would be a much better option!
Property was extraordinarily fantastic , location very peaceful Staff was very good the way they server us breakfast giving us the feeling of royal stay
All Good
Perfect location, staff is fantastic Breakfast was amazing and presentation was really good Enjoyed alot with the family everyone enjoyed
Nothing
Super helpful and kind staff making extra effort to make our stay pleasant. Kanchana, the hotel manager arranged for a birthday cake for us, and was very focused to improve breakfast.
The room was big and clean the managers was very good
It’s far from arugam bay and the food is not so good
Super service.
Peace, for sure!
Aprota Villas – Review Aprota Villas has the potential to be a beautiful place, and you can tell it was probably a fantastic property when it first opened. Unfortunately, it now feels quite run down and, considering the price, it simply doesn’t offer good value for money. Room * The welcome letter in the room was addressed to another guest, which wasn’t a great first impression. * There was confusion about the breakfast time (9:30 or 10:30), as we received different information from different staff members. * The room was very dark, with insufficient lighting throughout. * The air conditioning unit was extremely loud, and there was no A/C in the bathroom. * There were visible signs of mold, particularly inside one of the wardrobes. * One of the mirrors in the room was broken. * Despite the villa being prepared for two guests, there was only one spoon available for our entire stay. * We requested different (flatter) pillows, but they only arrived 48 hours later, by which time the request had become almost pointless. Food & Service * Breakfast and room service were honestly very disappointing. The food quality was poor and well below expectations. * Breakfast service was almost non-existent. * The biggest surprise was having a staff member deliver room service while chewing tobacco. I have never experienced that before, and it is simply unacceptable in hospitality. * We were advised to place food orders while in Arugam Bay so everything would be ready upon our return. Instead, after arriving back at the villa, we received a phone call asking us to confirm the very same order, defeating the entire purpose. * The concierge service was vague, confusing, and almost non-existent. It rarely felt like anyone was able to provide clear recommendations or practical assistance. Pool & Facilities * The swimming pool was not clean.
She is absolutely the sweetest! ❤️ It was such a pleasure to arrive and be welcomed with a warm smile and such genuine kindness from the very beginning. She made sure we had everything we needed, and the entire staff was always available, friendly, and happy to help with anything we asked for. Even after check-out, she kindly let us stay at the property for as long as we wanted, which was incredibly thoughtful and not something you find everywhere. The place itself is amazing—it’s spacious, with a beautiful swimming pool, a private beach, and even a private pool in the room. Outstanding service, a truly personal touch, and a perfect place to stay. I highly recommend it! 🤍

The villa was stunning
Nothing everything was great
The service at the hotel was absolutely amazing. They brought me a birthday cake and stayed in touch with us throughout our stay to make sure everything was perfect. We had a truly wonderful experience. A special thank you to Kanchana, who was incredibly kind, attentive, and provided us with such warm and courteous service. We truly appreciate it!
We had an amazing stay at Aprota Villas, and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Sri Lanka. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with such warm hospitality. The property feels like a peaceful, secluded escape, with the beach just steps away and beautiful waves creating the perfect atmosphere. We stayed in one of the villas, and the room was incredibly spacious, comfortable, and beautifully designed. A special thank you to Kanchan, who went above and beyond while we were celebrating a birthday by arranging a cake, decorating our room, and even offering breakfast in bed. She was always there whenever we needed anything and truly made us feel looked after. Another unforgettable moment was thanks to Janidhu. After a long day out, we returned late hoping to have dinner, but they had run out of Sri Lankan roti and naan. Instead of simply saying it wasn’t available, he made fresh dough from scratch just for us. It’s thoughtful gestures like these that leave a lasting impression, and both Kanchan and Janidhu provided exceptional service throughout our stay.
The only area for improvement would be having more English-speaking staff and ensuring there are more team members available around the property. There were a few occasions where it was difficult to find anyone, our landline calls went unanswered, and we waited nearly an hour for three drinks by the pool. That said, these were small issues in what was otherwise a fantastic stay. Thank you for making our visit to Sri Lanka so memorable—we would happily recommend Aprota Villas and would love to return.
Staff accommodated our needs very well,
The team
Tutto
Niente
The staff was very friendly! Unfortunately, this is the only positive aspect to mention. We left the resort right away as this seems to be an abandoned hotel. We had to pay before we saw anything else but the front door and haven't received our money back since.
This place should not even be advertised as a functioning hotel. While the villas may look decent inside at first glance, everything else is in a state of complete neglect. The garden, beach, and hotel grounds are entirely unmaintained, giving the impression of an abandoned property. We were the only guests, which already says a lot. The villas are surrounded by what feels like a construction site, with piles of rubbish scattered around. Instead of an ocean view, all we saw was a damaged fence with several broken sections. The hotel terrace was downright dangerous — one of the wooden boards broke under our feet. The pool was shocking: the water was green, dirty, and completely unusable. Overall, this place is unsafe, unkept, and absolutely not worth staying at. The pictures speak for themselves. We tried to contact the manager on several ways but never received and answer or feedback from them. This is very unfortunate, especially since we have always had such great experiences with Sri Lankan hotels and their wonderful staff, which makes this situation completely unexpected.
A beautiful resort with a beautiful garden and pool right on the beach. A peaceful place where we felt like we were on a deserted island.
We had a fantastic stay at Aprota Villas during our recent trip to Arugam Bay. From start to finish, our experience was exceptional. We stayed in a spacious and beautifully designed Chalet that was both elegant and comfortable. The excellent service was complemented by quality food, which was a highlight of our stay. Priyantha and his team were excellent in providing an exceptional service. We relied on the WiFi throughout our stay and were impressed by how fast and consistent it was from all areas of the property. The property itself is stunning—a true beachfront haven with gorgeous main swimming pool set within lovely, manicured gardens. It’s the ideal choice for anyone seeking a luxurious and peaceful holiday in a breathtaking environment in Arugam Bay. We cannot recommend Aprota Villas highly enough!
Private pool, very tranquil environment, luxurious grounds, good support from staff. Spacious rooms
Both room and general areas need maintenance. (Pool Deck worn, broken/ rusted handrails, clumsy paint jobs to cover repairs, etc) Given 300€/ night this is sub par. Breakfast is okay, but nothing spectacular. Our next hotel at less than 100€ / night delivered much better options
Very nice room. We stayed for 5 nights in the room with the pool which was great! The large pool is also very nice and the hotel staff is very friendly.
The location is ~20 minutes from Arugam Bay where there’s surfing and other services. It cost 2,500 rupees each way by Tuktuk. We rented one and drove it ourselves for the flexibility and since we found ourselves going to Arugam Bay twice a day. There’s also no spa or yoga classes at the hotel and it’s not walking distance to any restaurants or other relevant places. The hotel photos seem outdated. The place is nice and we liked it a lot but it doesn’t look as nice as in the photos (maybe looked like this in the past but now need some investment in maintenance).
We had a wonderful day at Aprota Villas. The property is stunning and incredibly peaceful. The entire space feels thoughtfully maintained from the gardens to the rooms. The rooms were spacious, spotless and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The Wi-Fi worked very well throughout our stay, and it is not too far from the hotel to the surfing sites that made it so easy to explore the area. The staff were incredibly helpful, always ready to assist with a smile.
Priyantha, the Chef, and the entire team provided exemplary service, ensuring our short stay was both comfortable and pleasant. The cuisine was of a high standard, with the Sri Lankan breakfast standing out as one of the finest we have experienced recently, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. WiFi connectivity was reliable in both guest rooms and common areas, supporting uninterrupted access to streaming services such as Netflix and Youtube. While the hotel is situated at some distance from central Arugam Bay, Priyantha facilitated an efficient transfer arrangement, making travel to and from Arugam Bay both convenient and cost-effective. We anticipate returning for a longer stay before the season concludes.
Nothing.
After 2 weeks in Sri Lanka we wanted a luxury one night stay somewhere special, and we certainly got that. The place is beautiful and well kept. The staff are very friendly and professional. The food was fantastic and the chefs clearly know what they are doing. We stayed in a bungalow with your own small private pool, and the bed was so comfortable. It was so nice to have some peace and quiet. Thank you all for a wonderful day and evening. Highly recommend!
Priyantha and his team were absolutely amazing!
Beautiful villas surrounded by lush gardens, with and amazing pool. It’s a bit out of the way, so you should consider hiring wheels, but very calm and serene once you are there.
It’s a bit out of the way, but like I said, rent some wheels and it’s not a big deal.
We spent 1 week at aprota villas with 4 kids. The place is amazing, a quiet place to enjoy and relax close to all the Arugam Bay activities. The bungalow was perfect, well equipped and very clean. The private pool make a huge difference for our Kids Breakfast was various and taste. The staff was professional and answer all our needs. Thanks to Aprota Villas for this amazing vacation and Special thanks to Salinga!
Nothing. Everything was perfect
Wonderful hotel with a very beautiful garden, tasty food, a great pool and a sea view. Many thanks to Mr. Sallinga and to a very attentive stuff there. We really enjoyed our vacation in Aprota Villas Arugambay.
Very pretty property
Far from everything, deserted feeling, hard to get around or organise activities, needed to leave the hotel to get a sense on liveliness
Staff are nice bur completely untrained. Didnt show us around or show us anything about the room. Far from arugam bay, makes jt very difficult to do anything, also food is not good in the hotel. There was a rat in our bed, and is more expensive than most hotels in the area
We enjoyed the sprawling garden with breakfast by the pool . Honestly the best place to relax in Arugam bay combined with luxury. You cant find any other such which offers value for money. Aprota was a perfect choice to make for our stay
What truly set Aprota Villas apart was the exceptional service. The staff and chefs went above and beyond to accommodate my requests, adding a personal touch to our stay. Whether it was cycling around Arugam Bay or lounging by the outdoor swimming pool, every moment at Aprota Villas was a testament to their commitment to guest satisfaction. My Wife and I truly enjoyed our stay .
I had an amazing stay at Aprota! The staff was incredibly friendly, the room was clean and comfortable, and the food at the restaurant was delicious. The hotel's location was perfect for exploring the area. I would highly recommend Aprota to anyone looking for a great place to stay!
Facilities, staff and location.
Spa and bar were closed.
Lovely stay and quiet place. Really enjoyed.
My sister and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the aprota villas and we had an absolutely wonderful time. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles. We booked an chalet which was well-maintained room, with a beautiful view, made us feel really comfortable. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay special, from accommodating our requests to offering helpful suggestions for things to do in the area. We enjoyed a delightful meal at the villa, where the food was not only delicious but also served with exceptional care. Overall, our stay at The Aprota villas was a memorable experience. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff for their excellent service and to the hotel for providing a perfect setting for our getaway. We look forward to returning in the future.
The territory
We were alone at this hotel for 3 days and there is 10 km around nothing to do at all. You cant swim in the ocean also. The room has dirty furniture and walls. The shower was broken. NO WI-FI. The staff (a lot of) don’t know what to do with guests when you try to ask for something
The hotel staff was exceptional and Mohammed the manager answered all our requests, the pool is amazing and the place is clean and quiet, although not in the city center but we arrived after a few days in the center so we got the peace we were hoping for
Although the team tried and made an effort to make us as satisfied as possible, including preparing dishes that are not on the menu, unfortunately the food was not good enough
The room was spacious and clean, the bed was comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful.
The location was far from the main stretch with limited options to get to and from the hotel. The main grounds were overgrown and badly maintained. It felt like a deserted hotel -- we did not see a single other guest while we were there. As we were leaving for dinner on the first night, we stumbled upon a dead bird in the middle of the path. Would not stay here again.
Big Room Big territory of hotel Big main pool Great wild beach Good food , when to order to room And staff can service food to room every time— that is perfect !
In big expensive villa are Nothing for to use for life and cooking ( kitchen without equipment, no micro wave), need to ask staff to bring every plate, glass, plates for fruits, knifes and the same others ……. Around villa is many garbage( woods and plastic) , like the reconstruction. Staff is very very friendly, but all time mistakes when order food. Very small private pull, Staff don’t understand how to make professional villa service. Staff very loud in the early morning during cleaning .
Potentially it is nice..the only descent resort in Arugam
The worst place ever been! Air-conditioning didn't work in both rooms I took for 2 nights..didn't fix. Service was bad. We didn't have towels..needed to ask few times No extra blanket for third person in room. No blanket! Slept with cover bed. Pool was not clean. Nobody there. No service. Dirt all over. Rooms not clean defiantly for this kind of price It is so far from arugambay, one can expect tuk tuk service.. they charge double. Service team don't know English... so get wrong order of drinks. And last..lots of flies in breakfast. Big mistake
Nothing
The worst nightmare! The place is rundown, not maintained and run by the rude and unprofessional staff. The manager locked the gate and held us captive demanding to pay for the services and food they didn’t provide, the security guard violently pushed me and we had to call for policy for rescue.
Staff were very helpful but seemed quite awkward. I think this was because we were seemingly the only guests. The Sri Lankan food options were tasty. The wifi, when it worked, was good. However, it was intermittent during our stay (can’t be helped as the weather was to blame). The room was spacious and the plunge pool was clean. Strong and hot showers! Milhan was exceptional. Outstanding customer service. He greeted us with a delicious watermelon welcome drink and a moist towel to cool off after the 8 hour drive. Anything I needed was provided and he was checking in daily. We had to leave early due to a medical issue and Milhan showed genuine compassion and concern for our welfare.
The location. It’s literally in the middle of nowhere, there’s no surf at whiskey point (apparently hasn’t been working for a few seasons), no other restaurants, you can’t swim at the beach due to coastal erosion (it wasn’t any stronger than our local beach in Australia but even as confident swimmers we didn’t get in). The western food was not good but just order Sri Lankan as that was good. It’s very expensive to get a Tuk into town, the price seems fair it’s just that it’s so far. We knew it was off the track but expected there to still be local rotti stops or something at whisky point but you essentially couldn’t leave Aprota unless you go into Pothuvil or a bay proper. It wasn’t an issue for us as I had data but you can only communicate with staff via WhatsApp and when wifi is down due to rain this could prove difficult. It’s a shame about the location because it is a lovely place and the staff were so attentive and friendly, particularly Lasitha our food and beverage manager and Milhan.
Beautiful property, nice pool and well maintained garden Very nice and spacious rooms, comfy bed and blanket
From the minute we entered we felt uncomfortable, the staff is very awkward and don’t know how to behave. When we came we were the only guests in the hotel. However, it took them almost an hour to serve water despite several reminders. When we went to check on it we caught them playing cards on the restaurant terrace. In general they forgot our food orders. Also, they always came in a group of 4-5 people which just made it very uncomfortable. Why do you need several people to serve a bottle of water? It’s a shame because the property is beautiful but the service is just very bad. To be fair I assume they never received proper training. But you can’t charge that amount of money and call it a luxury resort with that kind of service.
hotel was alright
understaffed, the hotel was going under financially, didn’t have WiFi for our entire trip and didn’t tell us before they asked for our card to charge us. also dirty drink glasses and the room was not cleaned properly
