The pool was the only good thing and even that was dirty and the lounge chairs were ripping about to fall through
Room was not fully cleaned or stocked. Vending and ice were not functional. Staff was very rude. You get a motel 6 at a premium price.
Me gustó todo y el cuarto tenia mucho espacio . Todo limpio
very well layed facility
the heat
The rooms are great and the pool is epic. We loved how everything is built right into the side of the mountain.
Breakfast is ridiculously expensive. There should be options for simple, affordable breakfast. Parking fees are a little nickle and dime don't you think?
We liked the Room and the views
The staff and waitress at the pool was a little rude to us...
Perfect weekend getaway from Tucson. You dont even need to leave the resort once you arrive. Dinner at the restaurant on site was amazing as well as convenient. Every staff member was happy to meet requests as made. I would definitely return for a relaxing weekend anytime. I think it would be a great place to hang out during cooler months to jump hot tub to hot tub.
Nothing
The facility is old and run down pool and hot tubs were dirty
Not wheel chair friendly AT ALL, TOO CROWDED, TOO MANY KID'S IN JACUZZI, STAFF VARY RUDE, COULDN'T WAIT TO CHECK OUT
Staffing attitude decent, handicap ♿️ friendly, more supervision over children in jacuzzi
The pool
It’s not ice machine or every floor And the pool slide needs to be fixed you slide down and then you stop at a certain point where you have to push yourself through very inconvenient

The staff was very good
the pools and Saunas where not clean the poolside had trash laying around and rooms where ok not worth 246 dollar tho .the where roaches all over the place at night which made me feel very uneasy walking anywhere around the property
The pool and beautiful grounds
Needs microwave in the room
Beautiful hotel a little outdated but well maintained. Will be back!
Let me be specific about what you’re actually paying for because the pictures and videos are very deceiving. The food situation is a bait and switch. The booking page is written to imply all-inclusive. It is not. Breakfast is $27 per person for continental — cereal, pastries, the kind of spread a Hampton Inn gives away free. We paid it more than once. Then on our last day, an employee mentioned in passing that we should have received a food voucher at check-in. Nobody gave us one. Nobody at the breakfast counter ever asked whether we had one — they just took the $27 a head, every time. Either the front desk failed to issue it or the restaurant is trained not to ask. Neither is an accident you make once. The room assignment is a form of exile. We were put in the south lot, which is not a short walk from the pool, the lobby, or anything else. The hotel’s own solution is that you call a man with a golf cart and wait for a ride to your own hotel’s pool. That’s not an amenity, that’s an admission the property is too spread out to function. Housekeeping doesn’t clean the rooms. I requested service and came back to find the bed had been made over rather than remade — the fitted sheet wasn’t pulled back onto the mattress, just tucked around whatever was already there. The toilet paper had that little folded point. Towels were restocked. That was the entire service. Somebody was in the room and chose not to clean it. The property is visibly, structurally past due. Outdated elevators. Outdated doors. Carpets that have seen a decade too many. The pool was in no condition to swim in. And it’s empty — walking the grounds feels less like a resort in the off-season and more like a place that’s been quietly abandoned and left running on a skeleton crew. It is genuinely unsettling after dark. The one honest compliment I have: the bed was very comfortable. That’s it. That’s the list. I would not stay here again and I will actively talk people out of booking it. The nightly rate looks like a bargain until you add the $27 breakfasts, the shuttle-to-your-own-pool, and a room that isn’t cleaned. You get what you pay for here, and I’d argue you still overpaid. I’m genuinely surprised this is operating under a Marriott flag.
They way it’s tucked off the busy street is so nice feel like you in a different place.
Everything was good.
Location was great. Room was clean and the Bed was comfortable.
Pool was a little dirty and had a lot of bees in the water that were alive or dead.
They had cake slices delivered for my spouses birthday and wrote happy birthday on the plates. Coffee bar was convenient and good priced
The pool bar closed at 4:30. Our bathroom pocket door didn’t close all the way and it was difficult to move back and forth. The pool had lots of foliage in it on both days
I loved the view, the woman who checked me in was nice and helpful.
When I was going to go swimming the lady stopped me, with a look of disgust on her face. She asked wat room number I was in and I mixed up the numbers and she said I had one more chance or I was going to be asked to leave. I called my girlfriend because she had the paper with the room number.
Staff was nice. Our server at the pool was the nicest . She always smiled . Hotel is outdated. I booked a corner room , was told not available , got a patio room with so much traffic in front of our door . I know it was 4th of July but the pool was overcrowded with day pass people . Sorry not worth the money
It’s an overall nice property, but it was overwhelmed with so many people you could possibly even enjoy the pool or any of the amenities. It’s like being at Disneyland and the staff seemed overwhelmed.
I didn’t like the fact that there were so many people. The staff seemed overwhelmed and a few things happen during my day that made me very uncomfortable and I didn’t even pretty much leave my room then I did the Fourth of July, which was my birthday and my boyfriend had to bring it to the attention of the property the incident that happened so overall not happy with the stay.
This resort offers a beautiful outdoor pool as well as hot tubs. The in-house restaurant and the bar with a sit out are has ah-mazing views at night. This resort is just 15 minutes from Old Shoppes at Scottsdale and a 10 minute ride from the airport. The breakfast we had was perfectly made to our specifications as some of us have intolerances. Jonathon, our server guided us very well with the food in the restaurant as well as places to visit after. The rooms were spacious, slept like a baby after our Grand Canyon hike. The resort is well maintained, clean and the noise level was minimal.
Roaches, Maintenance Issues, and Inconsistent Service I recently stayed at The Buttes in Phoenix while traveling with a youth volleyball club. Our team occupied six rooms for five nights, and two additional teams from our club also stayed at the hotel for a similar duration. To start with the positives, check-in for six rooms was handled efficiently, and the front desk staff were consistently friendly and professional throughout our stay. Unfortunately, our experience was marred by numerous maintenance and housekeeping issues. On our first day, one of our 12-year-old players became trapped in a bathroom when the lock malfunctioned. She was locked inside for over 30 minutes until staff were able to dismantle the lock. Staff responded promptly, which we appreciated. However, because our players needed to remain near their chaperones and no nearby rooms were available, the family could not be relocated. Additionally, the sawdust and debris left behind from the repair remained on the bathroom floor for the remainder of the stay, despite housekeeping service. Another room experienced a complete air conditioning failure. The room was extremely hot and humid, making it difficult for the players to sleep. Engineering was unable to repair the issue, and those guests ultimately had to move rooms. The most significant issue, however, was the number of cockroaches encountered during our stay. On our second day, we observed a large roach in the hallway. Later that evening, we encountered numerous roaches around the exterior stairways and entrances to the hotel. While we understand that large outdoor roaches can be common in Arizona, we were alarmed to find multiple live roaches inside one of our guest rooms that same night. We contacted the hotel multiple times regarding the roaches. Response times varied considerably. Sometimes staff responded and searched the room; other times, no one arrived. Unfortunately, by the time staff did arrive on one occasion, the roaches were no longer visible. The players ultimately resorted to catching the roaches themselves and removing them from the room. Additional issues during our stay included: - Housekeeping entering a room despite a "Do Not Disturb" sign being displayed. - Another room not being serviced when the sign was not displayed. - Slow or nonexistent responses through the hotel's messaging system. - A television that would not turn off and had to be unplugged. - Large gaps beneath guest room doors, which appeared to allow insects to move freely between rooms. After multiple complaints from parents, a sales manager contacted me and offered Bonvoy points as compensation. While I appreciate the gesture, it did not feel commensurate with the number and severity of issues experienced by our group. The property itself has a beautiful setting and the front desk staff were kind and professional. However, due to the repeated maintenance problems, housekeeping inconsistencies, and especially the cockroach issues, I cannot recommend this hotel for families or youth sports teams.
we had a really great stay! staff is wonderful.
I loved how secluded it felt and also loved the pool
The pool and grounds were perfect.
Check-in was fast but room was not ready when they said it would be. We ended up waiting hours.
I had a wonderful time me and my family nice people work there was amazing I love it there
The food
Was woken up at 6am to a huge sewer cockroach in bed with us and bug bites on our ankles. When I let the front desk know; they told me they'd send someone up to get it. They acted like it was no big deal which means it happens often. I used to be in the hotel industry and if someone told me there was a cockroach in their room I would immediately refund it and put them in a new upgraded room. That is so unacceptable and I'm digusted. All we got was an oops and a sorry. YUCK to the cockroach and how the situation was not handled. Update: went back to the front desk to ask if the cockroach had been taken care of an hour later and they still haven't sent anyone there. They waived the $15 resort fee and the $15 parking... WOW
Limpio
Las recepcionistas fue un poco racista cuando llegamos luego dijo que no habla español cuando hablamos inglés y el restaurante del top rock tardaron en atendernos y incluso cancelamos la orden de comida y no quisieron y luego el manager fue muy arrogante
We love this hotel, the staff and service is over the top incredible, everyone is so accommodating and helpful, the bar and food is completely reasonable, and the pool and hot tub is unmatched. Special mention to Hiba, Caroline, Meme, Dan, and Brian who ensured we had the best vacation. Like I said the service and staff here is unmatched.
That we had to come home.
Convenient location to airport, Scottsdale and restaurants. The pool is AMAZING! Bed and bedding, pillows super comfy! Clean room. Great gym facility. Easy parking.
The restaurant at the hotel was absolutely awful- super expensive, food very subpar and lacked customer service. Had a reservation way in advance to eat outside with a view of mountains for over two months in advance and was told there would be a 40 minute wait to sit outside but we could be seated inside in 10 minutes. Very disappointing and bad management practices. Our most expensive meal of our vacation with the absolute worst food!
Pretty views.
Not close to restaurants and attractions.
Basically, the pools are great; what they really need are more umbrellas, as the current ones are already quite deteriorated
The pool area
The food we got super sick my kids and I
It was unique and the staff were friendly

Excelente lo recomiendo
Todo me gustó
Nice hotel located in and amongst the buttes however if you have any sort of mobility issues or disability it’s probably not for you. Everything is up and down and the walk from some rooms to the restaurant is like a 10 minute hike. Some of the walkways are extremely steep and pebble covered. Rooms are renovated with a great mattress and lots of room in the bathroom. Take a king with a patio if you can. It’s beautiful in the morning on the patio. Top of the Rock restaurant was so-so but the Market Cafe for breakfast was very nice. Omelettes were good and service was fast. Close to the airport as well. Staff is very friendly.
The two main complaints were: 1. TV remote did not work. IT took three phone calls to the front desk over a 2 1/2 hour period to get a working remote. 2. There were teenagers running up and down the hall yelling and being loud for over 4 hours (until 2:00am) other guests asked them to be quiet and one guest said they already called the front desk but no one came to address the issue.
Very unusual to be built in the hillside, gave it a quaint feeling. The kids use the pool every day. We had lunch at the Grill area while we played cards. It was a lot of fun. We had dinner on the rock and it was excellent. It was conveniently located for airport drop off
The fact that it was located in a secluded area, I don’t know know why they had to charge us a daily parking fee. Nobody else could park there unless they were using the hotel facilities to me. It was a senseless charge.
It was beautiful
The proximity from our room to the pool was horrible and the spa close to our room was broken so that was very disappointing and the coffee creamer in our room was spoiled so it ruined my coffee also disappointing. The wrist bands for the pool got misplaced somehow so going to the pool wasn’t an option! I think it’s crazy for a stay like that needs wristbands overall wouldn’t stay there again unless we could choose which room so it was closer to the pool!
Some of the best getaways for travelers are resort's with a beautiful pool. At the Marriott Phoenix Resort Tempe at The Butte, the swimming pools are more than just a place to cool off. It’s also where guests sip a cool drink from the Thirsty Cactus Bar and enjoy a flavorful meal while relaxing in a lounge chair. This hotel was built in the 1980s, and is sculpted into the natural contours of the butte itself. Th unique terraced architecture follows the rise and fall of the rock formation carved into the desert landscape. There are cascading waterfalls and tiered whirlpools built into desert-rock surroundings. Not only does this add to the beauty of the outdoor ambiance, it is also striking vantage points when the sun sets, and the desert air cools for the stars to shine brightly. The resort recently refreshed their 353 guest rooms and suites redesigned to emphasize a contemporary aesthetic. Subtle Southwestern influences include warm natural hues echoing the surrounding environment. Rooms are designed for relaxation with plush pillow-top beds, soft linens, ambient lighting, and functional workspaces. Marble bathrooms have spa-inspired amenities to enhance a sense of quiet luxury. Be sure to make a reservation at The signature dining venue, Top of the Rock is a favorite for locals and resort guests. It’s an architectural masterpiece with its geometric pavilion design offering 360 degree views of Phoenix and the surrounding mountain ranges. Sunset dinners are popular on the cliffside dining terrace, Top of the Rock, to sit by the glass-wrapped dining room in a comfortable booths for glorious views of Camelback Mountain, the Twin Peaks, Superstition Mountain and twinkling city lights. Order a cheese or charcuterie board, the crispy wrapped tuna served as cigars in a box. Open the lid for a multi-sensory experience. They have grilled proteins and fresh seasonal salads. Below the lobby is another dining venue, the Market Café, where you can sip a cup of Rooted Grounds coffee and enjoy a breakfast buffet or a la carte meal next to a picturesque waterfall and pond. For wellness opportunities, the Narande Spa incorporates locally inspired ingredients in their skincare products they use for facials, massages, and body treatments. The resort also offers a modern fitness center equipped with Matrix Fitness machines for guests to integrate their own devices to connectivity for streaming workouts or entertainment. For outdoor enthusiasts, take one of the nearby trails for easy access to desert hikes directly from the property. One is near the entrance of the property for 360 degree views of the Spring Training facilities, including the Los Angeles Angels. Despite its secluded location nestled in the butte, this desert-resort is conveniently just three miles away from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. It’s also minutes away from ASU in Tempe for visiting parents, and to shopping in Scottsdale and entertainment in downtown Phoenix. I like how The Marriott Phoenix Resort Tempe at The Buttes has a new refresh to provide guests with comfortable rooms and suites, dramatic swimming pools, a relaxing spa, and stellar dining venues with spectacular views.
The only perk was that the beds are good.
The property is dated and dirty and the staff simply do not care. It is very overpriced and disgusting. Most rooms look over the freeway.
I found Marriott Butte Hotel to be located near all restaurants and shopping malls. Great location. Food is higher priced and cocktails approximately $13-15 way expensive and weak in strength. Food Service is slow. The pool bar is good but the bartender needs a cleaner and bigger shirt. Pool water temperature was perfect. However all 3 water spa was very Hot 🔥 and jets were not working like the way they are supposed be. The surrounding mountain is spectacular view around the pool. The only bathroom for the pool goers, the toilet was leaking water toilet seal to the ground, gross. There lots of safety issues by the pool, one being the electric Accessibility water chair. The motor and gears are exposed only 2 feet from the edge of the pool. In the garden areas there were exposed electrical uncapped wires. The bedrooms are clean, the beds are actually good with a mini refrigerator. Lots of constructions for your phones and accessories. Over all in my opinion it's an awesome hotel, but Marriott needs to invest money because the hotel is getting tired on the exterior. Yes I would stay away and bring in your own cheaper alcohol.
Pools
Long wait to get the tv to work.
We stayed here for one night before our flight home, since it's only about 15 minutes from the airport. Like everyone else said, the resort has an interesting layout. It's built right into the mountain. I reserved a room with a little patio so that we wouldn't be facing the freeway, and I'm glad I did. When we arrived, our room wasn't ready yet (check-in is at 4:00), so we went to the pool bar/restaurant to get snacks and drinks. At night we went to the Top of the Rock and sat outside on the patio (I didn't realize the pool bar closes at either 6:00 or 7:00). I enjoyed the sights of Tempe/Phoenix and the mountains. What I didn't enjoy was the guy at the table next to ours who saw nothing wrong with watching a loud video on his phone that sounded like planes taking off. Seriously? If you insist on watching loud, annoying videos on your phone in a public place, wear headphones. No one wants to listen to it. Anyway, our room appeared to be recently renovated and was pretty spacious. There was a pretty walkway that we could take to the pool and restaurants. However, if you have mobility issues, I'm not sure if this is the place for you. There are multiple steps you need to climb in order to get anywhere. Breakfast was fine, nothing special. My bar for resort/hotel food is always on the floor, so I'm never really disappointed, lol. I'm not sure if this is a place where people spend their entire vacation. I suppose if all you wanted was a pool where you could just hang out and eat and drink, then this place would work. But if you need a place to stay for a night before your flight, it's great.
The pools where nice I like the area where it’s at
the rooms where ok the bathroom needs work toile wouldn’t flush that good I would have to flush at least 2 times for it to go down the rooms need a bit more cleaning
This resort has high end accommodations and the views are so amazing, as the entire resort is carved out of rock. Be prepared to do a lot of walking to the restaurant, pool and other amenities, if your room is at the end of the long hallway, but we liked getting our steps in without having to leave the resort. The rooms, pool area and whole property is pristine and so clean and the service is excellent. We had a large room with a walk out patio which was plenty of room for just the 2 of us. The only reason I did not give this a 5-star review is because of the sluggishness of the lobby restaurant and takeout breakfast area. As no free coffee is provided by Marriott in the lobby, there was a huge long line in the morning for coffee at the takeout market and they were understaffed. The lobby restaurant with outside patio area has great food, but it took over an hour and a half to be served dinner. A large high capacity resort should do better with the in-house dining, but we had nothing but great things to say about this hotel property!
We love this place. Beautiful lobby, amazing clifftop patio with views over the city. The pool area is awesome, we love how the seating is spread out for privacy. Multiple food and drink options. The rooms are probably the worst part, nothing fancy about them. They are somewhat recently renovated. But you come here for all the other spaces. We love to stay here when we arrive in town, even just for a night to relax before heading north. It’s a great price for a beautiful location, and close to the airport.
Absolutely awful experience at this hotel. Drove 6 hours and checked in around 7:30pm only to be welcomed to a hotel room that had a very bad odor. Asked to switch rooms but was told the hotel was at full occupancy. Their solution was to have housekeeping clean the room. Appeared to be a reasonable solution given the circumstances. So although it was an inconvenience I was agreeable. Then as soon as I returned to the room, I saw a huge bug scampering across the bright white comforter. This was not an ordinary bug - this was some sort of desert enigma. I screamed- my son screamed and ran out of the room! I tried getting it off the bed but it clung on with stubborn will. Finally got it off the cover and saw it race under the bed. Fortunately I was able to throw my shoe on it. Called the front desk for new sheets which didn’t arrive for over an hour. So much for a relaxing start to our trip- my son won’t go to sleep for fear of bugs crawling on him. Don’t let the bed bugs bite is a real thing at this Marriott.
Truthfully was not impressed. I stayed here on business and have felt cleaner in other hotels than this. We ran into some plumbing mishaps and had to be switched to an accessible room - totally not a big deal - it happens, but there were left over socks and corners that we could tell were not cleaned/dusted. I didn't love the idea of using one of their towels to wipe my face. They seemed a bit dingy in my opinion. The shower curtain was also rusted at the bottom - again normal, but for the price tag this hotel seems to have, I feel that should be something resolved. Food and bars were okay. Views were pretty but mostly of highways. Staff was above friendly.
The Marriott Phoenix Resort Tempe at The Buttes is a hidden gem. A beautiful resort centrally located in Tempe, 15 minutes from the airport and 10 minutes away from downtown Tempe. With spectacular views of the city, an amazing pool, and great dining, I highly recommend this resort. Special thanks to Khushi, Indri, and Ayu for the world class service I received. They truly understand what great service is all about. Thank You Mr Dorsett
Nice location nestled among foothills a few blocks from the city streets. Small older resort with some charm scenic views. Not far from the airport.
Facilities were well maintained but dated making the price a bit high.
Location, facility pool.
Floors needed to be vacuumed. Children were poorly supervised.
The slide closes at 6:00 p.m. which seems way too early, especially when the sign posted says open until "dusk". The sun doesn't set until 8 p.m. in the summer and the slide itself was disappointing. My daughter went down and she was stopped at the very end. She literally had to jump off the slide to get into the pool. Marriott can do better.
The design and aesthetic is lovely though a little worn
We were surprised at how much we liked this hotel. Service was outstanding from start to finish. Many reviewers reported traffic noise from I-10 - and that's fair if you are standing atop the butte looking onto the highway. However, we had a second-floor patio room facing into the resort, and it was VERY quiet. (My husband and I are both sensitive to noise, so that's saying something!) The highway noise in the pool area is mitigated by several rushing waterfalls. They could turn down the music a bit, but it wasn't nearly as bad as it is at other hotels. The fitness center is well-equipped with kettlebells, free weights, machines, straps, and cardio equipment. The "cold" breakfast buffet included tasty oatmeal and lots of fruit, so great value for money (free). Custom omelets and hot foods were available for $6.
The location, room size and restaurant
Had to pay for self parking
We loved this little resort! It was so scenic and comfortable. The pool/hot tub area was great with 2 different pools and 2 hot tubs in shade and sun. We bought great coffee every morning at the market cafe and enjoyed it in the lobby seating area with amazing views. One night we ate in the Top of the Rock restaurant which was delicious!
Everything was amazing
