Pretty great place, and everything worked nicely. Situated within walking distance of key spots, regardless if you're here for surfing, or not. Clean, and stylish. I liked the place, especially the outside kitchen made in traditional Sri Lankan style (mud, I only saw that inside Yala Park on our recent tour of the island). Overall a great stay, and the family running this business is lovely, including young 3-year old Leo Heloves playing ball, so I can see his future on a national team some day. I'm sending love and peace vibes to the family 🌴🌊

I gave 10 because it's impossible to give more. In resume because I felt in home since the first time and during the whole stay, and because I made friends that for sure I will see again in the future. The hostel in run by a fantastic couple, that are very welcoming and helpful. Thank you Mandara for all the great moments!

I had a very relaxing and pleasant stay at Nature Rex. Bandara and Nadeesha were fantastic hosts but their son, Leo and dog, Lillie steals the show hands down. I came for one night but stayed on for 11. The beach is very close to the hostel, perfect for a early morning or late night swim. Highly highly recommend their place and I'd definitely be back next time. Cheers!

I didn't like that I couldn't stay longer

No AC, only a fan that doesn’t reach to the bed. Called for quite a sweaty sleep. I do think if I asked for a fan, they would’ve provided. Humidity was insane

For me, this place was absolutely lovely, it felt like home for the time I stayed there. The room has a mosquito net on the widow, which really helps with your sleep. It's only a few minutes walk from the main road, where there are buses running, as well as walking distance to the beach. They also have a kitchen you can use, and a lovely green outside area. I cannot recommend this place enough. Thank you! 🙏

Family were lovely and genuine. I felt comfortable and at home at the homestay. Bathroom had very cool shower concept.

What a perfect place for connecting with nature! You can feel like in the jungle when listening to the morning birds! The owners are super nice and helpful. The WiFi was super strong for work. Very close to the beach where you can surf or just relax. And a shower.. you can look up the sky when showering! Highly recommended!

I wouldn’t define it as a hostel but rather as a guesthouse run by a young local family with an adorable child. They were very kind and helpful, making it a great option for a short and budget-friendly stay. However, the property does not have a fridge or an indoor kitchen—only an outdoor one—so keeping drinks cool isn’t possible (though you can ask the family to store them in their personal fridge), nor is storing any other type of food. I booked a private room, which looked very spacious in the photos, but in reality, it wasn’t. The main highlight was supposed to be the open-ceiling shower, which, while Instagram-worthy, turned out to be quite impractical—moss everywhere, insects coming in from outside, extreme humidity. The room had no AC, and the only way to sleep was with a mosquito net around the bed, which was very uncomfortable. The same ceiling opening was also in the bedroom, meaning rain would get in, moss grew all over, and insects were everywhere, making the humidity unbearable. I strongly recommend booking the other private room with AC instead, as this one is not worth it—you can find better options for the same price. Additionally, the rooms do not have adaptors, and in fact, my personal adaptor got fried by the only available socket at the shared table, which was unsuitable. In the bedroom, I even got an electric shock, which could have been dangerous. I don’t even remember if there was Wi-Fi—if there was, it probably didn’t work inside. Basic services that are available anywhere in the world were lacking here. I hope my review helps improve this place, as it has great potential.

The location is excellent, it’s very close to Jungle beach and also lots of trees, not touristy, a beautiful area. The hosts are a lovely young couple, the wife makes a delicious curry dinner that you must try. Loved the private outdoor shower. Great community of interesting travelers from all over the world.

If a kitchen is important to you, just know there is no fridge; theirs broke and it’s not cheap to replace. Gas is also expensive, so I chipped in to buy more, and it was sufficient for making coffee and breakfast in the mornings. Encourage everyone staying there to donate a small amount to cover the kitchen expenses if you plan to use. I’d like to see this couple succeed!

So cute! I had a great time thank you. Loved the garden and my private room was the perfect place I needed while I was recovering from my injuries. The bathroom was lovely. Super clean and the owners were always so attentive and lovely. Loved the dogs!

There are some ants but I mean that’s pretty inevitable. I wasn’t too bothered.

It was one of the best places I stayed and had a pleasant time in Sri Lanka. The hostel owner is very nice and friendly to you. The kitchen is simple but has everything you need. What I like most is that the hostel is very quiet but also very close to things to do in the surrounding area. 200m from the beach and 2 km from Weligama beach. There are seating areas where you can have a pleasant time. Also they have very high speed internet. If you work online it’s very nice. It has a very positive impact on the time spent in this hostel. The hostel is cleaned regularly every day. I will come back here again one day. Thanks.

Lovely family run accommodation. Perfect if your looking for a more personal touch! Very much in the jungle too which adds to the atmosphere. Very close to a lovely secluded jungle beach with decent eating options close by.

Its location near the beach makes it a great choice for surfers and beach lovers. The hostel has a lively and social atmosphere, ideal for meeting fellow travellers. The helpful and friendly owners go out of their way to assist. The laid-back ambiance of the hostel is perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring.

The hostel's amenities might be more basic compared, such as limited privacy in shared rooms. The rooms or common areas can be a bit cramped, especially when the hostel is full.

Nice and different room with a semi-outside shower. Cool concept. There is now a mosquito net and we didn't have any issues with mosquitos. Great location close to Jungle Beach. Nice garden with places to sit. The breakfast and dinner are well priced (990 rupies) and The portions are enormous! Friendly family that runs it.

With the house next door and the new construction next to the room there is a need for some additional privacy screens around the bathroom/shower to prevent people seeing in from above.

A wonderful family led hostel. Honestly, the young couple with their son are what making this place special. They are always there to help you, serve delicious food and are just a great vibe. The place is quite which is nice when you spend your day in busy weligama. 5min from the hostel there is Jungle beach so it’s easy to relax and have a swim.

Everything was good. The hostel is just located a little bit outside of the main city and the surfing beaches.

The staff was super nice, as is the place. It’s in a garden with a really nice vibe. You can also do breakfast/dinner at the place with a really good menu. The beds are comfy too

Hosts were very nice and helpful and the place was walkable to fishermans bay and jungle beach. They also served really delicious auhentic local food.

Dorm was too hot and had a bad smell so I decided to move to the private room which was really beautiful. There was a mosquito net but it was torn on some parts so mosquitoes could still get in since the room was open with no windows to close. Wifi was also not stable so it was hard to work.

A beautiful location, kind, caring and attentive hosts who go out of their way to help you feel settled. The property itself self is very close to the beautiful jungle beach and you really feel immersed in nature!

It could’ve been the weather, but there felt like there was a dampness in the air. This maybe unavoidable. I stayed in a private room and a dorm, in the dorm room the door to the toilet was excessively loud to the degree that it woke you if other guest used the toilet in the night

We loved our stay at Nature Rex Hostel. It's located just 3min walk from the bus station, 5min from the Jungle Beach and in a pieceful area. The garden, with the hammock... is beautiful! The outdoor shower is just lovely and the bed is very comfortable. The couple who owns the hostel are very kind and sweet persons! We come back in a week, so I can only recommend staying at this beautiful place, it's extraordinary!!

There is no mosquito net for the bed, but we were lucky, that there weren't many mosquitos.

It's very close to the jungle beach. This beach is not crowded like Mirrisa beach so it's like having the beach for yourselves. The garden and nature is so relaxing. The host also owns a Tuktuk and does not overcharge for the foreigners. He is fare in his prices to everyone alike ! Bandara also helps out in whatever information you need as he is local to the place and knows a lot of stuff around the town. Bus stop is walkable where you can catch bus to Mirrisa (towards right) and Galle, Colombo (to the left) in every 20 min.

It’s a great place to stay. The hosts are super friendly, and the hostel is situated in a nice, peaceful location. Highly recommended!

It was just beautiful. Peaceful, plenty of room where to hide with a book or to have fun with friends. Beach is nearby, my room was exceptional. And Bandara and his whole family are amazing people. I felt great there, would love to come back. What was supposed to be 2 days became 2 weeks, I couldn't recommend it enough.

AC didn’t work all the time and it was noisy during the night. The location is amazing and the people are super nice and helped us with everything.

Lovely people, very calm and convenient location, everything very clean. You could see how the place involved every day and they put a lot of effort in it. Private room is really Nice and the dorm has a good size! Open bathroom is amazing! Outdoor kitchen is useful and sometimes they had an open kitchen with delicious food! All in all not too big, very nice atmosphere and close to jungle beach :)

Nice quiet location away from the main hustle of the city. Close to Jungle beach - nice place to chill or to surf for advanced surfers. Loved the open bathroom. FYI there are dogs at the property. We like dogs so it’s a bonus for us ;)

No mosquito net in the room. The owner offered a plug in electric mosquito repelent. The kitchen area was not very functional - kettle broken, no pots, to boil tea etc. Was told it will be provided in the coming weeks :) When there is a party in Tiki bar, we could hear it quite clearly. Its about once every month, so just pauly attention to that.

Such an adorable and helpful family. They contribute a lot to the local community, one day they went making food-packages for the poor. Location is perfect to surf on jungle beach, but still close to welligama. The host help you with everything. And the breakfast is amazing!

Bandare is a great host, super social. Place is green and garden is nice to relax. Jungle beach is super close. Our first room was nicely decorated and loved the decor of the bathroom. The food is super delicious.

The second room we stayed in had an open hole in the ceiling which was not great, lots of spiders and other insects coming in.

Perfect place if you want to relaxe and surf at the beautiful jungle beach. The room gets cleaned daily and the owner are very nice and always helpful if you need something. WiFi is also much better than in the most other places I stayed.

Great location, the local beach (Jungle beach) is really good and much less busy than most i've visited in Sri Lanka. Our double room room was spacious and we loved the design of the bathroom with the shower having an opening in the roof above it to see the palm trees and sky.

The place is amazing, surrounded by nature and 5 minutes walking from jungle beach. The house is so cozy and the atmosphere in the house with the other guests was amazing. It’s for sure the best hostel i’ve ever been and i really recommend it. Also Bandara, the owner is an amazing person 🤙🏼🤙🏼

Very nice place and friendly owner and family in the heart of the nature. Very close to the beach, 20 mins from Welligama by public transport. We stayed two more days because we enjoyed the place and the proximity from the beach. Definitely recommend to stay there! Very friendly and funny dogs too :)

YOU have to STAY HERE if you like NATURE! Amazing place to stay, set back from the main buzz of Wiligama but close walking distance to lovely bars and restaurants and a super easy trip to the main town. Jungle beach, the most secluded and best beach around, is less than a 5 min walk (turn right at the top of the road). Best hosts in the world, such a helpful, kind and wonderful family that are very easy going, relaxed and lovely in every way! Very blessed to have met them, stayed and chatted to them a few times (on our own accord). Beautiful dogs that they have trained very well and love very much (we also fell in love with them). They have a few different rooms which cater to all budgets, so make sure you choose what’s best for you. You real feel like you’re staying in the jungle amongst open air bathrooms, loads and loads of plants and a beautiful garden! They will recommend or sort out any hire or rentals or advice or help that you could ever possibly need, just ask and they will be more than happy to assist! Honestly, couldn’t recommend it enough, we had the best time, extended twice and didn’t want to leave. 10/10 💕 thank you so much 💕

Nothing, perfect stay!

We stayed (my husband and I) at Bandara's place for about 10days and it was really nice! Bandara and his family are adorable and always here to help! They can also prepare you a delicious meal. It's really close to the Jungle beach, one of the most pretty beach in Weligama where you can also surf if you have a good level. There is lots of nice and cheap restaurants around the place and the famous Tiki Bar with big parties on Friday night. We would 100% recommend Bandara's place, the house is clean and pretty, with a cute little jungle garden. It is a peaceful place. Will definitely come again. Very friendly hosts and guests. Wifi was enough to work. Food was plenty and tasty. Room was comfortable and had an opening in the roof, so it was quite creative.

The room has an opening in the roof (it’s part of the construction). For me, it was great to listen to the rain inside the room, but if you’re not into nature, this can be a problem.

Great position near a quieter and nicer beach than the main weligama beach. Hosts were so wonderful and helpful, they built me a custom mosquito net when I was struggling with mosquitos. The property is clean and well looked after

The owner is a super-friendly man with his wife. He found us a scooter for a good price and also lent me a surf bag for free. The bathroom of our room is nice!

Ich habe den Aufenthalt in der Unterkunft sehr genossen. Die Besitzer waren sehr herzlich und haben sich die Zeitgenommen all meine Fragen zu beantworten. Das Hostel ist sehr sauber. 3 min Gehweg vom Strand, 2min zur Busstation & einige Essensstände in der nahen Umgebung. Das Frühstück ist riesig und wahnsinnig lecker. Ebenso kann ich das Mittag & Abendessen in der Unterkunft empfehlen, welches von der Familie gekocht wird. Ich würde diese Unterkunft auf jedenfall weiterempfehlen.

We really enjoyed staying at nature rex! The owners are very welcoming and helpful with everything. We enjoyed a very nice breakfast that filled you for an entire day. It was freshly made and delicous! The room was clean and special because the outdoor shower is worth experiencing. We can recommend it to everyone who wants to stay outside of the hussle of welligama. We would go back again!!

Not often you come to a new place and immediately feel this special vibe. I found so much more at this place. Place is surrounded by nature and it's away from the main road so it's as tranquil and calm as very few places on the coast. After just few days I knew I respect the family and young man that runs this place and I extended my stay. Now being here another countless time I feel like I found my place to immerse into peacefull tranquility surrounded by nature. The place can arrange additional activities and is surfer friendly. Booking does it a disservice by saying place is located a mile from the beach. The best and cleanest beach and surf spot Jungle Beaach is only three hundred yards away. It takes three minutes to get to this sandy paradise. Also during the season ask for Family Bandara's breakfast. I'm serious it's a feast and for a really good value for money.

Awesome place in a great location. Only 2 minutes from the surfing beach. The managers of the hostel are always there and ready to help or create some activity in the evening. Fast WiFi that works even during the powercuts. Will deffently come back again soon.

Some RU people live there long term and they were not really welcoming though - which takes the atmosphere little down.
