Reviewed Aug 28, 2025Horrible, sucio, el que estaba en la recepción con una actitud muy despota, olía horrible a insecticida, seguramente habían fumigado algunas habitaciones con problemas de insectos o chinches, instalciones muy viejas, colchones que parecen piedras, muy incomodos, el peor hotel que he visitado y lo malo es que me guié por la calificación que tiene en hoteles.com segun ustedes muy bueno con 8.6 y la verdad se merece un 3 o 4, sean sinceros, por que ya no podremos confiar en las calificaciones que ponen

Reviewed Aug 15, 2025It was better than we expected! Rooms are very spacious and clean. Mercado Juarez is literally walking distance. Staff was very welcoming, Hotel Ritz will now be our place to stay when visiting Matamoros!

Reviewed Aug 15, 2025This is a very old hotel however it is very well maintained and really enjoyed my stay. No coffee available to enjoy this nice hotel. The price is perfect and really enjoyed my stay. Complimentary breakfast was awesome and very filling.

Reviewed Jul 19, 2025The staff was very helpful. We know very little Spanish so we used our smart phone to communicate our few needs. Everyone we interacted with was super friendly. They saved a necklace/ earring set for us, because we needed to get the cash to pay for it. We really appreciated this kind gesture. We were very impressed because our daytime destinations had a lot of insects, however this hotel had absolutely none. Very clean!!!

My daughter was unable to sit for long periods of time and had to lay so there was no way I could get her downstairs and across the street to eat.

Closed too ling smell, toulet seat barely hanging on, even noticed makeup stains on pillow case. Front clerk was indeed very polite, understanding but definitely will never stay there.

Reviewed Feb 7, 2024I have used Expedia for years for my hotel bookings and plan on continuing to use their site since I know they do not fault what this hotel decided to do with my booking. I have not had to experience in any hotel before but this time it was just unacceptable, Ritz Hotel had bed bugs, roaches, and yellow stains on their bed covers. I called reception to ask for a refund and cancel my stay, but they receptionist didn't even ask for any explanations, he immediately said no problem let me switch your room so I understood then this is a constant issue. I was refused a refund by the property management because my window for cancelation had passed and their policy is very strict on this unlike their cleaning policy alright so I contacted Expedia and they couldn't do anything else because the hotel never answered their request for my refund. Horrible customer service, unsafe to sleep on their beds, and obviously they have infestation issues.

Both at the hotel and restaurant, the staff function in English with a little of my broken Spanish. Easy walk to street merchants and other restaurants. Pleasant. Clean. Polite.

Reviewed Aug 15, 2022Through this survey, I am formally requesting a refund as the room that was advertised on Hotels.com was not the room that I actually received at the Ritz. Had this hotel been located in the United States, I would have immediately commenced legal action against the Ritz, and against Hotels.com for breach of contract for failure to honor the implied agreement between myself, the Ritz, and Hotels.com when I paid for the room, yet did not receive what was advertised. The room expected was a standard room with one king size bed (as advertised in Hotels.com and displayed in the photo also on hotels.com) What I got was a room that was no bigger than my walk in closet, a bed that was much smaller than twin size, and furniture almost bunched together: leaving almost no walking space. When I advised the staff, they informed me that there were no other rooms available, and that there were no refunds available. Obviously, the room was not used due to the lack of walking space. This is the first bad experience that I ever had at a hotel in Mexico, but nevertheless, I would not recommend the Ritz to anyone due to the flagrant bait and switch. Furthermore, if I were hotels.com, for reputational purposes, I wouldn't accept further publishing from the Ritz because of possible exposure to civil liability

Also the water in the shower was taking forever to go, like it was clogged or something. Same with toilet. This is not our first time, overall it's a nice hotel and location. Great breakfast and nice bar area, but it needs its improvements.

This caused an issue where it backed up a line of people waiting to check in on a busy Friday afternoon and the language barrier made things difficult to resolve, which in the end meant I had to make another reservation on the spot and pay all over again. Expedia not the easiest company to get a refund out of.
