I would have loved a king bed and the only reason I say that is because my husband is tall and has a bad back so a larger bed would have been more comfortable.

The accommodation was such a treat and very reasonably priced for it's size and comfort. The spa pool and continental breakfast were an added bonus to the stay. Thank you Shona and Tony. We will return one day.

The place could benefit from a spring cleaning after winter. The basics were clean (linnens, furniture etc) but edges for instance above the bed were collecting dust and the shower could use a demoulding. I’m sure when the seasons start again it will be in order.

Reviewed Nov 28, 2024Matai Huka was lovely - out of town and a little tricky to find the way in through outbuildings, but once we got to our room, it was gorgeous - spacious and elegantly appointed, lovely view of open grounds. Make-it-yourself breakfast was provided in the kitchen area, with various options. Hostess very friendly and charming.

Only thing was my parents arrived late at night so for them it was hard to find but once they did it was fantastic and they were giving a torch as soon as they arrived so it solved the problem could do with a few little night lights but thank you

Reviewed Jan 19, 2024This is an exceptional property set in a beautiful rural location with exquisite views over landscaped gardens. It is so peaceful that you feel as though you’re miles from anywhere when you’re actually only 2km (a lovely walk!) from the town boundary. The cottage is incredibly well set up with everything you might need and Shona and Tony are fantastic hosts - friendly and helpful, and on hand if you need anything. We booked the cottage at short notice for a quick retreat after a busy week, and we only had two days free, but we would definitely have stayed longer otherwise. The memory of sitting on the lovely wide deck, soaking up the view, breathing in the country air, inhaling the fragrance of the garden and listening to the birdsong (I forgot to mention the host of NZ native birds that grace the gardens!) will sustain us for a long time…and we’ll be back!

We would have been happy to stay here more than one night. The bed was very comfortable, a full size kitchen and living room with outside sitting area looking out onto a beautiful view.

Unfortunately we had a medical emergency early in the morning and she called out the paramedics and assisted us in finding alternative accommodation as they suggested we didn’t travel on. The view is wonderful and she even took our washing returning after it was tumbled dry.
