Dinah's Garden Hotel

Very good location if you have work/travel around South Bay. Large and open property and there's plenty of area to walk around. There is a small park and duck pond in the property. The food in the restaurant is good. The staff is friendly and helpful.

The gym is small with very little space and equipments for weight training. They should offer a room package that includes breakfast.

I have stayed here since I was a child. I love the stunning gardens and grounds. It's always felt like home. Love the poolside restaurant for breakfast or afternoon cocktails. Our server Noe was the best and very welcoming

The property was beautiful and well landscaped .

I didn’t like the fact that the restaurant was outside and if you wanted to swim you were swimming amongst diners. Also the rooms connected to the pool area could be a bit nicer.

Restaurant food was excellent!

The carpet in our suite was dirty and had lots of noticeable spills. The carpet needs to be cleaned. The room also had a stale smell. We reported the smell to the desk. We ended up going to the market and purchased air cleaner. We opened the sliding glass doors for ventilation.

I’ve been staying at Dinah’s since 1998. It’s my favorite Bay Area property. I was placed in the 600 building and that building needs a remodel. The carpet or lack of an area rug with an adequate seating area within the room for office work was notable and missing.

My room was attractive and comfortable. The poolside dining area was lovely, and the lagoons, gardens, ducks, and koi were wonderful. I spent some time sketching there. A quiet, beautiful, and relaxing place to stay. Excellent service at the restaurant and reception. My salmon dinners were truly delicious!

The restaurant should offer oatmeal for breakfast.

The room was spacious and mostly clean and the beds were comfortable. The location was OK for our Stanford campus visit but traffic to and from the hotel can be painful depending on the time of day.

The bathroom was not spotless and there were a couple spots of dried snot from a previous guest or house cleaning. I sprayed them down and got on with it. Shower pressure was low to useable. The floors are wood plank and since we were out on the first floor with people above, I was woken each day by our neighbour upstairs who clomped around at 6am, occasionally dropping stuff. Check in was perfunctory but went quickly. The pool size is exaggerated in the pictures on booking.com.

Beautiful garden. Kids can feed the fish and ducks. The hotel provided pet food.

The staff were friendly. The pool was relaxing; heated for night time use. Their vibe is like a zen garden compared to the typical hotel or motel experience. I loved the koi pond and ducks that hang out in the garden!

We could not use cellular internet access on first floor. We do not use hotel wifi. I had to stand out by my car to send texts, emails, etc. Low flow shower very disappointing. Barely enough pressure to get shampoo out of your hair. These two items are the reason we will look elsewhere next time.

Great family owned property on a nice piece of land in Palo Alto. Two restaurants right at hand. Nice pool.

We were staying at Dinah's with 3 other families. Our last morning there, we looked forward to having breakfast by the pool as the kids went swimming. Unfotunately, they were pressure washing the cement around the pool and we had to go elsewhere to eat.

We have stayed here many times, and it never fails to delight us. Perfect site and perfect attention to details for a comfortable stay

The grounds are beautiful! Loved the lagoon and lush plants, koi fish and ducks.

Didn’t like that we had to wait 20 minutes for our drinks we ordered from the bar. No bartender on duty at 2:55pm when we ordered. Drinks were finally made around 3:15.

As usual, everything was absolutely perfect at Dinah's! We had a mini fridge that wasn’t working and immediately maintenance brought us a new fridge that was larger and actually even better for what we needed. Our grandchildren who live nearby came and joined us to swim and feed the ducks and the Koi and it was all just perfect. We can’t wait to come back again. We’ve heard that the new Christmas train is amazing and we will happily await the email to book for the holiday season!

Koi Pond is Fabulous

Location, large clean room, smart tv to stream my device, updated bathroom, quiet, and beautiful koi pond with clean swimming pool.

The mattress was too firm, probably needs to be updated, no microwave, & only a beverage cooler not a fridge.

When we opened the door, a bad smell welcomed us. Not sure what it was, it smelled like old wood. I called the desk and they asked if we wanted to be moved. I said, no but please bring us some air cleanier. The rug needed to be cleaned, there were lots of dark spots on the carpet.

It's a lovely setting. I enjoyed sitting by the pool at the restaurant. Even though the motel is on a major road, the pool area is enclosed and like a little oasis. Just very pleasant.

It's pricey for what is essentially a motel, but that is explained by its location in Palo Alto.

Room was spacious, quiet and comfortable. Housekeeping was very friendly and professional. We got an upper level room at the back and didn't have a view of the gorgeous fountain areas, but it was still very quiet. Temperature control was great and lighting had many dimmers and options. Blackout curtains were perfect.

Check-in person was a little short, but checkout person at front desk person was very friendly. So, just a little mixed there. The shower head was a bit too controlled (low water flow).

It’s a very beautiful, well kept property. Booked this place because I read that they had a koi pond and it didn’t disappoint. The staff were also very helpful and friendly. I’d recommend staying here!

There is no better place to stay !! Everyone is so Friendly and helpful!! Such a peaceful place to stay. So so Beautiful with the creek and koi fish and ducks !! The food is delicious and they have the Best cup of coffee!! Can't wait to go back!!!

Easy to park, spacious room and quite new facilities.

Location was perfect and close to Stanford stadium for the concert. Atmosphere was thoughtfully engineered! Did you know there is always something blooming at Dinah’s. I love it! Rooms were spacious and had a microwave! Super important. Value is amazing. Great to have a pool, restaurant and my children enjoyed feeding the fish! Highly recommend!

Poolside lunch service was a bit slow, but we were not in a hurry, so it works out.

Loved the gardens, koi pond, pool area, and all of the beautiful art and artifacts displayed around the property. Appreciated the water fill station in the lobby so I could refill my reuseable water containers. I didn't eat at the restaurant, but it looked good and was a very nice location by the pool with a nice selection of items.

Bed was very comfortable and room was stocked up with towels, soap etc.

The bathroom fan/heater would make the bathroom way too hot And was unable to use the balcony due to it being covered in carpenter ants

We stayed at the Dinah's Garden Hotel specifically because we wanted my wife and daughter to enjoy the pool while I was at work. What we found was absolutely disgusting and unacceptable for any hotel claiming to offer a family-friendly experience. The hotel allows ducks from the nearby pond to freely enter the swimming pool area. We personally saw duck feathers floating in the water, duck droppings around and near the pool, and obvious signs that the pool hygiene was being neglected. Ducks carry bacteria and germs, and no reasonable guest should have to worry about animal contamination in a hotel swimming pool. When we raised the issue with management, they completely ignored our concerns and gave the standard excuse that “the pool is cleaned every morning.” Based on what we saw, that was clearly not true or nowhere near sufficient. A pool contaminated daily by ducks cannot simply be “cleaned in the morning” and considered safe all day. This was not only unhygienic but also extremely disappointing because the pool was one of the main reasons we chose this hotel. Instead of relaxing, my family felt uncomfortable and disgusted. The management’s dismissive attitude made the situation even worse. I would strongly advise families with children to think twice before booking here unless the hotel takes pool cleanliness and guest concerns seriously.

Das Zimmer war klasse. Wir hatten einen Wohnraum sowie einen separierten Schlafbereich. Das Bad war sehr schön gestaltet. Die Dusche war prima und es gab einen Heizlüfter im Bad, der für eine angenehme Wärme sorgte. Auf Anfrage bekamen sogar wir eine Mikrowelle ins Zimmer geliefert. Das gesamte Gelände ist schön gestaltet mit viel Grün und einem Teich.

The room was pretty large but the hotel is outdated and the smell of the room is not fresh.... I will not stay in that hotel again. They need to make some changes and make it more modern.

Ordered breakfast in their restaurant, not sure how you could make an omelet with spinach and mushrooms that bad! It should be simple. The smell of the room and the hallway immediately says it's an outdated facility. For that price I will choose to stay in more modern place.

The room I chose was very spacious and kept very clean.

The only issue I encountered with the room was the smell. I'm not sure if it was the carpet, but there was a strong, musty odor. While it was tolerable, it made all my exposed clothes and bags smell. I had to wash all my bags and clean my suitcase to get rid of the unpleasant odor. The hotel definitely needs to address this issue.

Dinah’s is a beautifully landscaped hotel with lots of special touches. It’s a nice change from the corporate, Hilton/Marriott landscape. Our room was huge, with lots of storage, good lighting, and a gorgeous redwood tree outside. I loved that the window opened completely for fresh air. Comfortable beds and heated pool.

This is a very large property (there are many buildings) and even though I booked two rooms together, our party was split to opposite ends of the hotel. It was such a long walk between our rooms and so confusing to find our room in the back building that our family couldn’t even find us. The restaurant is decent but it gets really crowded at breakfast and dinner and there isn’t enough waitstaff for the rush, so you end up waiting a while. For the same reason, it can be tough to get a coffee in the morning or a drink if you’re by the pool.

The beds was comfy. Had a nice restaurant with good service.

We got a room with a jet tub and chose the room because it had a jet tub, only to find out when I filled it up and turned it on a bunch of trash and rose petals came out. I told the front desk they came to the room to clean it. I tried a second time and it still had a bunch of trash that came out of the jets once I turned it on. I took pictures through the whole incident and told the front desk again. No one tried to compensate anything. I paid more for a room with a jet tub, than I would have if I got a room with a regular tub or shower. I picked this hotel based on the jet tub and didn't even get to use it.

I grew up on Palo Alto, and going to Dinah's has been part of my life for over 50 years. From the very entrance of the hotel, to the garden paths and water features, it is peaceful and relaxing. The lobby has some exquisite pieces of art, I'd love to take a few home with me. Their rooms are great, many have their own private patio's, others look out onto the ponds with Koi and statues. I've even stayed in a King Suite with an electric fireplace-it was great on a cold November night. The beds are super comfortable and the rooms have all the modern necessities. I love their restaurant. The selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner make it often hard to decide what get. I've been to many Sunday Brunch's there and it's fabulous. Back in the 70's, 80's and possibly 90's it was open 24 hours. Had many a late night meal there as well. Whenever I come to Palo Alto, this is the only hotel I choose to stay in! It is truly a hidden gem!

I would like a coffee service in the main lobby. The Keurig coffee maker was ok, but powdered Coffee Mate is not great. Land O Lakes makes a non refrigerated Half & Half that would be better. Also the Lipton tea (bitter) bags could be improved by offering an assortment of herbal teas.

Water pressure in shower low. Toilet was very low to the floor and difficult to use (for us older seniors). Toilet seat was not quiet-closing type. Would have liked a bidet function seat. Would also have liked a microwave available.

I could feel the steps of people in the room above mine, so it’s not perfectly silent. But it’s not noisy also.
