Hillsdale B&B in Ambleside

This is one of the best B&Bs I have ever stayed in. The owner Steve was extremely helpful in all ways, among other he would help us plan our journeys in the area suggesting sites worth visiting and recommend places to eat dinner. There were umbrellas for the guests to use. The breakfast was very good.

The accommodation is ideally situated in the heart of Ambleside and has easy access to all the shops, pubs and restaurants. The rooms are very clean and have all the finishing touches you need for a relaxing break. Breakfast was superb and nothing was too much trouble for the hosts. Warm, fresh and cooked to order. The hosts, Steve and Caz are very friendly and were a great pleasure to meet. Looking forward to booking again with them, in the future.

If I put something here it would be because I'm trying to find fault, when there wasn't any.

We really enjoyed our stay; Steve is a very friendly and caring host. We had a beautiful front side room with large windows and really enjoyed the breakfast. The location is perfect close to town and the parkingspace is a big plus.

The property was in the middle of Ambleside close to restaurants, shops lakeside which was a perfect location. It was clean & comfortable would definitely stay there again 👍 Steve & Caz were fantastic hosts to all their guests & breakfast was delicious.

The property is very clean and well kept. Steve, the host, is very kind and available. The location is great, and so is the breakfast. We had a great time !

Ambleside has no luggage storage sadly which is tricky when it comes to hiking, I would recommend getting a 24/7 locker outside the property, for guests only.

Beautiful cozy room with everything I needed. Great shower. Peaceful even though it’s in the town centre. Steve looked after me really well. Will definitely be back.

A tiny extra that would be useful would be hair conditioner as well as shampoo/body wash. Not the end of the world but would be a great extra.

Great location in the center of town. Owners were welcoming and very friendly, offering great advice about the area and sharing their own experiences. They made us feel part of their home and were very proud of what they have. Rooms were spotlessly clean and well equipped. The breakfast was excellent with great choices.

It was perfectly located. We were late arriving but Steve was still there to greet us and help us get settled.

Steve and Cas were exceptional hosts. Very welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable. Our room exceeded expectations. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. Breakfast was pre ordered and was of the highest quality. Parking was a short distance away which wasn’t a problem at all. We will definitely be going back.

The accommodation was in a perfect location in the centre of Ambleside. The hosts were very welcoming and there wasn’t any issues. They were very clear and helpful with advice about the area.

The hosts were lovely and made us feel at home straight away. Our room was lovely and clean and the attention to detail was excellent. Food was lovely too! Would definitely recommend

Steve was very friendly and the rooms were well equipped. Even had a fan for the hot weather ! Fab choice of breakfast, with cereal, toast, pancakes, fruit and full English !

Not so much don’t like its just what we prefer. We like smart tvs as when we’ve hiked all day we like to chill watching Netflix for the evening, unfortunately we didn’t have that. It wouldn’t stop us returning I would just bring my iPad next time

The room was clean and comfortable, b&b was in great location in walking distance of all shops. The host is absolutely amazing and made us feel welcomed, he even helped out when my friend's hiking boots broke down. Breakfast was great too!

Steve was a fantastic host, and nothing was too much trouble. Location is excellent, allowing for a great selection of walks during the day, and then close enough to all the restaurants and bars, but not too close. High spec room, comfortable bed, and great breakfast. We will definitely be back!

Our hosts, Steve and Caz, were simply exceptional. Both welcoming, and informative when we needed any information. The breakfasts were of the highest quality and Steve was happy to provide variations of the main menu if requested. The location of Hillsdale was.perfect for exploring Ambleside and the northern part of Lake Windermere. There are cocktail bars, pubs and some very good restaurants within easy walking distance. Highly recommended.

Warm welcome with clear, well structured information regarding our stay. Room typically small English type but very well set up so not cramped, very comfortable and attractive. Loved the automatic low level lighting in the bathroom, a terrific feature. Also automatic lights in cupboard. Really quiet which was a surprise as in the heart of Ambleside. Excellent breakfast. Discount for evening meal really appreciated.

Steve and Caz were lovely hosts as was Katie who served us a fantastic breakfast. This accommodation is absolutely stunning, the owners have thought of everything. The room was spotless as is everywhere. I’d even go so far as to say this is the best B&B we have ever stayed at - 10/10.

Our bed was comfy. Breakfast was tailored made for us and delicious. Our hosts were lovely and very helpful. They advised us to book somewhere to eat and told us the best restaurants, which we did. Doi Intent (Thai) was exceptional. It was great to have a designated parking place which was just a 2 minute walk from the B&B and secure. Thank you Steve and Caz for making our stay enjoyable.

For the money we paid our room was small with no where to sit and we are used to a king size bed though the double bed was comfy.

The location withnearby parking was ideal for a two night stopover in the Lake District. The breakfasts had a lot of choice and were excellently cooked. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. They warned us to book our evenings meals and gave a good list of nice places It was all very well organised.

Parking in the Lake District and in Ambleside was horrendous. But with the allocated parking we were able to have a day on the bus.

De eigenaren zijn erg betrokken en vriendelijk. Elke ochtend maak Steve een gezellig praatje bij het ontbijt. Het ontbijt is ook echt heerlijk, 2 gangen en meer dan genoeg. Elke dag kan je zelf kiezen waar je zin in hebt. Ook de locatie is top. Je loopt zo het centrum in waar veel te doen is.

Het enige verbeterpunt zou iets meer waterdruk in de ochtend voor de douche kunnen zijn. Dit is echter een te verwaarlozen punt, omdat de rest zou goed is.

The range of options for breakfast was fabulous and Steve and Val were excellent hosts - friendly and very helpful. It's a great location, really central in Ambleside. Our room was lovely, the bed was really comfy and it was very quiet and peaceful even though they were fully booked. We will definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone.

Lovely 2 night stay at the Hillsdale. Good coms before our trip regarding points of interest and good quality local restaurants. A very warm welcome on arrival from Steve with all the information needed. There is private parking approx 250m from the guesthouse which is vital in such a busy tourist area. The room was clean, comfortable, well decorated and furnished. Excellent breakfast cooked to order from a varied menu. All in all a very good stay and we would recommend without hesitation

The furnishings and decor were excellent and the whole property was very clean. The interior design was impressive. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom facilities were great. The hosts were pleasant and welcoming and the location provides easy access to Ambleside.

The parking situation was a little awkward. You have to park outside for a maximum of 1 hour and bring luggage in, obtain key for private parking a 5 minute walk away and then drive to this. The breakfast wasn’t of the same quality to what we’ve come to expect from a Cumbrian B&B. Better Sausage and the addition of Black Pudding would level it up exponentially.

Steve went over and above to ensure we were comfortable. Would definitely recommend.

I had a lovely stay at this cozy B&B lodge in Ambleside. The location was great — right along the streets of town and within easy walking distance to nearby restaurants, which made exploring and dining very convenient. The lodge itself had a warm, homely feel, and the room was comfortable throughout my stay. Breakfast was served in a generous portion and tasted great, so I left morning feeling satisfied.

The only minor downside was the limited flexibility in breakfast service timing, though I understand this is common for a family-run lodge.
