Good breakfast.

Comfortable large room with plenty of space, comfortable bed, warm shower. Really friendly staff who remembered our names (even though we only stayed one night), and a lovely breakfast. Fab location for exploring Ambleside.

Our room got quite hot in the night, but the tower fan provided was appreciated

The property was clean tidy and central. Food was excellent and the staff were lovely and friendly, and always there to support.

Landed with a £25 fee for the dog for 1 night. Told it was all over booking.com advert, but it wasnt. It was hidden away in the 'Fine Print'

Decor update

Ideal location in Ambleside. We had a great room overlooking the park. Enjoyed the breakfast snd the staff were friendly.

Good location close to the centre of Ambleside and opposite park. Small garden outside but large enough to sit in/walk dog. Everything was very clean and staff were very helpful and friendly - especially the young man on breakfast duties who was very enthusiastic and helpful. I appreciated the dog water bowl in the entrance hall and my dog particularly loved the dog treat bowl!! There was off road private parking which was particularly useful.

My only comment is that the double bed was smaller than we are used to but it was a normal size double bed. Next time I would book a twin room, only because we are used to a super king bed so anything less seems small. I would recommend Rothay Garth.

Perfect location, free parking, very kind welcoming staff and at breakfast time is taken to know names before hand so very personable, I was recognised as been there before, in fact stayed three times, our lovely lady who never seems to age, you know who you are is such a delight, and it’s lovely to go back to see her to say hello! Breakfast is beautifully cooked as always, great place, locations and staff

Excellent location, spacious and clean room with good facilities. Very friendly staff who remembered our dog’s name, cooked her breakfast and ask us personally how our stay had been. We will book again.

Loved location. Easy parking and breakfast choice great.

Shower temperature was inconsistent. Room very cold first day but second day very hot. Also can I suggest a larger shelf in bathroom for our toiletries also have to say last time we were there the grounds were really well kept. However it would not prevent us staying there again as we have in the past on many occasions.

Amazing Dog Friendly Accommodation🐶 Room 18 fabulously clean and very comfortable beds. Great facilities and location. Big well done to the amazing Manager and Staff make your Stay extra Special. Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice and produce so fresh, even cooked my Spencer 🐶 a big fat juicy sausage for breakfast in the room too😋 second time staying and looking forward to third stay in September.

The gardens were unkempt , uninviting. On a very hot night air conditioning would have made sleeping more comfortable . Ill fitting curtains with little butterfly clips to close them . The ceiling / wall in the reception area had crumbling plaster . The hessian carpet in the breakfast room was dirty .

Staff and food

The staff was very friendly, and the room and dining room were beautiful, with each table numbered with the room number. The breakfast was very tasty, and there were options. It was a walkway from the Roman Fort, there is a nice park in frontand good restaurants nearby. The garden is marvelous, and so is the living room.

The shower is not easy to use, and the room was a bit cold at night.

Set in a perfect location just on the edge of Ambleside and a ten minute walk to Lake Windermere. Nicely decorated traditional building. Comfy beds. Everything very clean. Hot and cold drinks in room. Good choice of breakfasts hot and cold. All nicely cooked. Joanna was very welcoming and her hospitality was wonderful. Parking on-site. Lots of nearby eateries and things to do.

Don’t like to give any negative feedback back but our bathroom should have been a shower room I struggled to use the sink in the morning. Only an idea to them to make this room a shower and toilet room.

Rothay Garth is well located in Ambleside, in easy reach of the town shops, bars, restaurants etc, and a great base from which to explore Lake Windermere area and beyond. Set in mature gardens with ample parking, outdoor seating and other guest areas, the building is old but perfectly comfortable, in a quiet location with little traffic noise. Our room number 2 was on the second floor, had ample storage and ventilation, a comfortable bed, and en-suite bath with shower over. There was a good choice of hot and cold breakfast included, and service was good. Walkers and Cyclists (and dogs) are welcomed.

We had the same table for breakfast for the 5 days we were there, and this was in a corner so we were unable to appreciate the views from the adjoining conservatory.

Just come back from a 3 night stay and can't praise it enough. There's was a friendly welcome, the room we stayed in was spacious and clean and we gad a view of the park. Location was good only a 2 minute walk into the village. Alk the staff we lovely,friendly and helpful. We will be going back again.

Great welcome as we arrived after hours and someone was there. The beds were the best beds we have slept in,in any hotel all over the world and the bed sheets were perfect. The breakfast was incredible.

The Guest House was in need of some refurbishment, especially the bedrooms and outside garden area.

Garden area very overgrown and unkept,outside seating area unusable and a shame because the guest house situated in a lovely area, and the weather was superb for sitting out. Bathroom in need of tyding up, floor area tiles realy bad and badly sealed. Breakfast full english cold on arrival, hard poached eggs, a slice of black pudding cut in half, small spoonful of beans cold, shared dining table, far to small for 4 people.

Some areas particularly outside were a bit unkept. Needing a lick of paint or the grass cutting.

Location was perfect, so near to everything and beautiful open views across sports fields towards the church and mountains. Very welcoming reception staff.....who remembered our names throughout our stay. Excellent choice and quality of Breakfast.

Liked the fact that we had our own entrance, it was much easier with the dog. Room was big. Nice to have a settee. Shower was good. Nice towels. Breakfast was lovely. Even had gluten free sausages and hash browns which was a treat for me. Lady taking orders for breakfast wax lovely. Great position in the town.

Bed was a little hard but I realised that is a personal preference. Check-in took a long time as everyone arrived at once.

The service was second to none. Like good service used to be. Breakfast was excellent. Chosen for the location and that was perfect.

No aircon- but then we were visiting in a serious heatwave and they did provide a powerful fan 😎

Amazing location with a guaranteed parking space, and a clean and safe room. Most importantly, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast in the morning was lovely and the hotel itself was well appointed and looked after. Considering the price, it is overall exceptional value and I would stay again.

The welcome and briefing provided by Joanna was very good and set the stay off well. Room 12 had a newly fitted bathroom which was very good, great shower and bath.

The garden gives a poor impression. The hotel signs are obscured by foliage, lawns need cutting, paths are covered with moss, weeds and litter.

Location was perfect. Bed sheets and towels were clean.

Breakfast was mediocre. I had a dirty wax melt holder in my room with old wax in it. I was berated by the receptionist for bringing it to her attention the day after we arrived. I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to have candles where paying guests are staying. I didn’t want it back in my room but it was returned any way. The whole place needs a deep clean.

The staff were so lovely and made us feel very welcome, the room was comfortable and the showier was great. Breakfast was really good as well, they had a variety of options. We would stay again, definitely.

There’s nothing we didn’t like about this place. The blind was a bit difficult to navigate but nothing was bad about the place at all. Would recommend staying here if you’re travelling to Ambleside.

Location was excellent. Short 1 minute walk to town. Free on-site parking was an added bonus. Staff super friendly and very welcoming.

Staff very friendly and helpful. There were lots of options for breakfast, it was lovely and plenty, All our choices were tasty, and hot and well presented. The beds were very comfy.

That we were only there for 3 nights, we would have loved to stay longer. It could do with a bigger mirror in the room.

Firstly would like to say that the staff were pleasant and welcoming. What needs to be said about the Rothay Garth is that there are two types of accommodation. We had a room in the unsightly extension which bears no resemblance to the rooms pictured on the website. The room experience was akin to staying in a caravan, very dark, with no view other than a very a very unkempt garden. Definitely not worth the money. Breakfast was average and the fact that the slice of black pudding was cut in half suggest that full cash is to be extracted from every guest. Would definitely not return.

Just had a very pleasant stay at the Rothay Garth hotel in Ambleside. The hotel is in a great location with plenty of on site parking. It is within walking distance of the town with lots of amenities, bars and restaurants. It is also ideally situated to take advantage of local walking trails. We received a warm welcome from Victor who was very pleasant, friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. A very pleasant stay and we would be happy to recommend and return in the future.

Husband said shower went hot and cold but I never had that problem. I think our room was very near water pipes as it could be a bit noisy during the day but there was no problem at night so we slept well
