Very clean, large rooms, great location

Had to to pay extra for sunloungers on beach, had yo ask every day for more water in the room (not automatically refreshed) and no refresh of bathroom amenities like cotton pads etc. At between £300 and £500 an night this seemed unnecessary. Would prefer a separate shower in huge bathroom rather than one over the bath!

Well located hotel with modern communal facilities. Very good breakfast and service levels were high.

Decor of rooms were a bit dated.

Large comfortable bedrooms, lovely swimming pool. Good breakfasts. Easy walk to the beach. Very good hotel for a family holiday.

Slightly run down - aircon not working in our bedroom - but was attended to promptly. TV not working - again attended to promptly. Swimming pool not open until 9.00 so no early morning swim. Too many stairs for push chairs and prams .

in its day it was the best . i stayed there in 1971 but it has lost its charm and become a little soul less. if you just want to sit around a pool all day its fine i believe it is under new management and they have decides to charge €20 for a beach chair . as my rooms were over €400 it is a major irritant and tells you all

Location is superb, the hospitality is generally good, and restaurant waiters very friendly and accomodating. Pool and deck are good and with good views. Breakfast good. Parking is secure and simple. Golf facilities are good with lockers located right next to reception.

Besides the common parts of the hotel, the rooms are becoming quite dated as is the exterior decor of the hotel. No sun lounger drink/snack service.

This is a lovely hotel in a great location. All the staff were super professional and friendly. We stayed in a premium room which was spacious, comfortable and clean. We had a mini bar fridge and coffee machine. Lovely golf and sea view. Breakfast was delicious, very fresh and eggs cooked to order by the delightful chef. We ate lunch at the pool bar and everything was tasty. The pool area is lovely and relaxing. The pictures don't do it justice. The hotel has reserved beds on the beach and serve snacks which was fantastic. Bar staff at night for an evening drink were so friendly and professional. The only observation is that parts of the exterior are very shabby. They appear to be upgrading in stages. This is a shame and takes away from the hotel. However everything else was relaxing and enjoyable and we are planning to return next year.

The hotel is in a great location with excellent facilities. There is a lovely pool area and the staff are excellent. It’s right beside the beach where there is an area set up for the hotel. Some of the rooms need updated and are not 5*. We had booked a Classic room with a land view. The view was overlooking the air conditioning units and the bar. We requested a move and got a room overlooking the golf course. It was still a Classic room and although very comfortable, the bathroom had a shower curtain and a shower head that fell down! The price is as you would expect in high season but the Classic rooms need upgrading.

Lovely to be back again at the Don filipa, everything wonderful as always, well serviced room , beautiful fresh breakfast, attentive staff . We noticed the improvements to the pool area ,new sunbeds , decking ,and the refurbished bar area adding a nice feel to the outside space , well serviced by the staff . However adding to the experience for us now is the new re launched menu at the kamal restaurant, delicious food , great service, and a menu to suit everyone, please give it a try . We will be back soon .

Best food so far we tried all the top dogs this one is under the radar Kamala restaurant in hotel by the pool is a must and very competitive absolutely brilliant

Some rooms are tired now and need updating. Please put all the 16 and 18 year olds in one part of the hotel, so they can make as much noise as they like without disturbing other guests.

This is my third stay at this hotel and I can highly recommend it. We had an initial problem with our room when we arrived thanks to the hard work of the recption staff this was sorted finding us an alternative room very quickly. A big thank you to Jennifer. All the staff are friendly and nothing is to much trouble. I smashed a glass of wine in our room and housekeeping responded within 10 minutes. A big thank you to Lanca and Raquel in the resturant who made our dinning truely memorable

It was my first time in world that I must waiting check out 30 minutes!! It’s not ok. Check out its fast prices and usually takes 2-3 minutes. I spent 30 minutes for this - it’s not ok.

The bedroom was very dated, but was very clean.

My husband and I stayed here for 8 nights in May and we had a great time. We stayed in one of the premium rooms that had recently been renovated, it was lovely & had everything we needed, lots of wardrobe space etc. The outside area is lovely, lots of sun beds and never had to get up early to save a bed. The only downside is that the pool wasn’t heated so we didn’t use it at all for our holiday as it was absolutely freezing. It does say online about it being heated so I’m unsure why the hotel didn’t heat it up. All the staff were amazing and extremely friendly. They couldn’t do enough for you. The breakfast has a great selection of food. We had lunch in the restaurant a few times and again it was lovely. We ended up sharing a baguette as they are really big and come with chips. Cocktails at the pool bar were also great. It’s a 1 minute walk to the beach and there are sunbeds you can lay on. There is also a beach club you can also get free access to as your in the hotel, it’s called well. There’s also a few restaurants just outside the back of the hotel by the beach, sandbanks is a nice relaxed atmosphere right on the sea. There’s also a lovely cafe on a roof top where they sell drinks and cakes which are very reasonably priced. There’s a beach bar which is also very close and really nice for an afternoon drink. There’s also a roof top bar called the roof that opens around 5/6pm which looks out to the sea which we went to a few times before dinner. A few other places we enjoyed to eat at, that are all around maximum 8 minute uber ride from the hotel: Maria’s Izzy’s Bamboo Julia’s Tony’s The cheeky pup (pub) Overall we had an amazing time and would recommend to family & friends. The hotel is around a 30min uber ride from the airport and about 20 minutes to Vilamoura so it’s a great location.

Everything was very enjoyable about our stay!!!!!! Staff were very friendly and efficient! Room was comfortable, the view over the 'roof' from the balcony was a little industrial???

Unfortunately, the pool area was not available, which we wish we had known before travel, as I was recovering from a total knee replacement and was looking forward to just relaxing by the pool????

The hotel is a located right in the centre of the Vale do Lobo area within fifty yards or so of the restaurants/bars and beach area. The room we had was very comfortable as was the huge bed. We had a balcony overlooking the golf course and you could also had a view of the sea. The staff were attentive and accommodating.

There is no gym within the hotel which we found surprising for a 5 star. There was also construction work taking place beside the pool which we hadn't been informed about therefore couldn't use this area. However the hotel provided us with free access to the local beach club as recompense which was very nice.

Close to everything you need for short break and playing golf

Noise as workers renewing the decking by pool even at weekend so hard to relax by the pool. Why this was not done during the winter months before the high season starts and guests wanting to relax by the pool

I didn’t appreciate the Reception Staff asking me if I would like to leave a ‘ Tip’ ! I had tipped on every meal and drink, gave the Breakfast Staff and Room Cleaners a tip on the last day ! This is the second time at the Hotel that I have been asked this by a female Receptionist on leaving and I consider it out of order !

Friendly staff, Generous 5 star room space, view, and specification- thankyou for soap samples too. Breakfast buffet, had wide choices, all fresh. Good bar, with choice of TVs for U.S. Masters Golf and football, and a good bar performer.

Perhaps we arrived during a period of annual heavy maintenance- the whole beach was being reprofiled with JCBs and suction pipes, the decking around the pool was being ripped up, pool very cold, no gym or indoor pool option locally, even if we had to travel locally.

Location, room, internal public areas and staff.

The swimming pool was drained and the exterior of the hotel was tired. Lack of pool ruined the trip. The whole idea was to sit around the pool for 4 days over the Easter break. The hotel should have advised prior to arrival and I would have cancelled and stayed elsewhere in the area. Manager apologised and offered the use of facilities elsewhere, but that is not acceptable in a 5* (allegedly) hotel. It was a 'lump it' situation and because I didn't want the palaver of repacking and moving elsewhere, we lumped it. I used to regularly stay at the hotel in the past, but never again. The website contained no information about closed pool area onto which the restaurant looks. Spoiled weekend.

Room was v comfy. The manager, breakfast and pool bar staff were welcoming and excellent service. The pool was closed for maintenance (these things happen) but the alternatives offered were great. Such a good location in the resort.

The hotel has everything you need. The room size is great and spotless but needs an update but we didn't mind that.

Infelizmente a piscina não estava disponível devido a atraso na manutenção e visto estarem duas de calor tinha dado imenso jeito:) O pequeno almoço devia ter mais variedade de escolhas. Visto trata-se de um hotel de 5 estrelas.

Location is always great

To say it was Easter, the pool was closed for maintenance all week. The main part of our holiday is to be by the pool sunbathing & swimming all week. So for it not to be mentioned was a disgrace as we would not have stayed at the hotel if we were made aware of the situation.. I use booking.conn countless times over a year & I’m so disappointed that our holiday was ruined by this matter.

Location was good for our activities. Staff friendly. Room very comfortable and had everything needed. It was nice to have fruit in the room.

The swimming pool was out of action, being refurbished but we were not told in advance of our stay or when we checked in. We would have swum if we could. The pool bar was not open either, even though the weather was good to be on the sunbeds..

Have to say staff were outstanding and the food only reason I didn't give five stars is there pool was out of action the whole holiday and the only thing we had wanted in a holiday was to relax by the pool They gave a alternative which is like a ice bucket challenge ruined the holiday I have to say But hotel food and staff were lovely

The hotel used to offer a round of golf at San Lorenzo but no longer does this.

Annoying little things - the heater/aircon in the room did not work well and satisfactory temperature could not be obtained. and the TV had an overly complex system and although had standard UK channels could not get BBC1!

The staff are all wonderful. It was lovely to see the same staff in the restaurant after our visit 7 years ago. Wonderful choice at breakfast. The orange juice is the best we've ever had anywhere!!! Great options for lunch at the snack bar.

Third time staying at the hotel in the space of 10 years, another great stay. Staff were friendly and helpful as ever, from the reception to the restaurant staff to the cleaning staff. Wonderful place to lounge by the pool, walk on the beach which is just a short stroll away, and even the tourist trap restaurants down the street were enjoyable. Special shout out to Well, the food was amazing. Will definitely come again!!

Only hiccup was I booked a premium room with a golf view and a bathtub, and even after swapping we got the bathroom but we still didn't get the view but decided to stick with it anyway. I'm not sure how much of the issue comes from the hotel or from booking.com itself but it made the arrival less pleasant than it could have been

Beautiful hotel - we have one of the renovated room and it’s spacious and well appointed, with good amenities. It was advertised that the pool is heated year round - but it’s not. It was one of the feature I looked forward to so very disappointed. The lounge bar is supposedly famous for its cocktail. It is most definitely true. But have dinner first before coming here as the food is absolutely terrible. The bluefish bites were not fresh and the chicken club sandwich has no chicken in it. The package we booked includes breakfast and it was a delight every morning looking out to the amazing vista while enjoying a hearty breakfast.

Very good hotel the staff are excellent the breakfast are very good, we had a couple meals in hotel very reasonable priced and good quality.

I have travelled most of the globe for business and personal reasons. In all my years of travelling, this is the most honest and respected hotel I have come across. I booked 2 rooms, in an unforeseen circumstance, I was unable to use the second room even thou I paid for it and was non-refundable. Despite this, the hotel understood my personal reasons and fully refunded me £1200. What other hotel would do this without incurring a penalty. The staff are so nice and respectful. I wish this hotel and the staff all the success. Gob Bless you all. Thank you.

Stunning ocean and golf course views, walkable to many nearby beachfront shops and locations. Beautiful area of the Algarve.

A lovely property in a great location with fabulous staff and a fantastic breakfast

A beautiful hotel the perfect stay. We were only here for a very short trip in between work commitments. The staff were very friendly, the hotel was extremely clean, our room was lovely over looking the golf course but we could also see the sea. The breakfast was perfect everything from fruit & Yoghurt to eggs cooked anyway, a full cooked breakfast and pastries. Bar/snack menu also great. We shall definitely return but next time for longer.

The hotel is not 5 stars it is also dirty and not clean . We were also put in an old horrible room that looked nothing like the photos.

We were greeted at reception by Leonardo, who was exceptional and really took care of us. Melani was also of great assistance during our stay. We however found that some of the pool and breakfast staff members lacked experience. We stayed in a premium room with golf/sea views. The room was luxurious and the views from the small balcony were simply wonderful The super king sized bed was so comfy. Water and tea/coffee were replenished on a twice daily basis Breakfast at the Kamal restaurant overlooking the outdoor pool with panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean was just wonderful The selection of food was fresh, varied and of a very high standard. A choice of eggs was also available to order. Breakfast was available from 7-10.30 which was great The choice & standard of food at the pool bar was good. There were plenty of sun beds available at the pool area and a good supply of towels. Parts of the pool decking were unsafe. The pool was great though a little chilly . Definitely not for the faint hearted. The hotel lobby, bar and restaurant have all been renovated and are beautiful but there are parts of the hotel that need updating. There was no entertainment in the hotel bar and There’s also no gym. The hotels location is fantastic being next to the Praca and a stones throw from the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay The little extras could move this hotel up to the next level

We stayed here for a week in Aug . When we arrived they gave us an older room but we paid to upgrade and had one the nicest rooms we’ve ever had ( Conrad hotel included . ) The breakfast was lovely , needs upgrading in places but this hotel will be amazing . We will be back. ❤️

I wish to thank Melani and all the staff for making our stay at the Dona Filipe Hotel so special, we first stayed with you in 2015 and have been back several times since. As always the staff make us feel so welcome, the breakfast is one of the best around with cook to order omelettes a true speciality!! The rooms are spacious with marvellous views of the ocean. We went for golf included package this time , we played San Lorenzo which is one of the best designed courses in the Algarve with fabulous ocean views. We are looking forward to our next visit already

Lots of positives but for the price this hotel need to up their game to compete with other 5 star hotels. Maybe they don’t feel the need to as they have a monopoly in the area being the only hotel? Positives include the location - great views and right next to the beach and an array of restaurants/ bars. I’ve stayed in both the modern and classic/ outdated rooms - both are spacious but aesthetically the modern ones much nicer. A big negative is the noisy air con units. So noisy we had to turn them off to be able to sleep but then the room got too warm and stuffy. The staff around the pool bar are inexperienced and a little slow. Didn’t seem to notice when things needed clearing away etc They seem like they need some training. The pool is a good size and temperature with plenty of sun beds. The decking around the pool was old and worn with loose boards which was potentially dangerous. I would return for the location and spacious rooms and bathrooms but do think the place needs a bit of attention and a revamp in places. Either that or reduce the price.
