Reviewed Sep 18, 2026such a great little unique place to stay in Monsanto. This was my favourite accommodation during our two week portugal road trip. It is about a 5-10 minute uphill climb from the parking lot outside the city walls as they do not allow non residents to drive in- just be aware if anyone has mobility issues. We packed a smaller duffel bag to bring rather than having to carry luggage up stone stairways. It was super clean, modern yet rustic. Breakfast is provided with the delivery of fresh bread at 7am in the morning. The shower was great - towels and soap provided as well. a couple eateries located just around the corner which was very convenient. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Monsanto

Reviewed Sep 12, 2026Die Lage vom Haus ,die Aussicht von der Terrasse ist einfach bezaubernd👌👍im Inneren wurde an jede Kleinigkeit gedacht, ich habe mich selten so wohlgefühlt wie hier🥰überhaupt der ganze Ort ist einzigartig und sehenswert 👌👍Leider war ich auf der Durchreise und habe nur einmal genächtigt (sehr schade 🤷)komme ganz bestimmt wieder mal hierher🙋♂️👌👍

Reviewed Sep 7, 2026Desayuno completo (dulces, fruta zumos), con productos de la zona. Nos dejaron el pan en la puerta por la mañana. Agradecemos que nos consiguiera unas galletas sin gluten. Con acceso a una piscina perfecta para después de un día caluroso.
La ubicación es espectacular, en la zona más alta del pueblo, justo al lado del castillo. El único problema es que no puedes aparcar el coche muy cerca y hay que subir las maletas andando. Pero merece la pena por las vistas. No había supermercado cerca (hay una pequeña tienda con lo básico).

At the second apartment we booked sadly there was no sound proofing in the ceiling and we could hear everything from the apartment above. They were very active all night this disturbed our sleep greatly. Please note If you're bringing your four legged friend check the price per pet before booking, we were somewhat surprised by the expense!

Reviewed Aug 27, 2026It’s a cozy, nice studio and loved the stone walls. You get bread delivered every morning and in the fridge you have ham, cheese, butter, marmalade, juice and milk. There’s a coffee machine as well.
I asked for yoghurt for breakfast cause my stomach don’t feel so good eating bread but it wasn’t possible.

Reviewed Jul 13, 2026Vi havde høje forventninger og blev alligevel endnu mere positive over selve området, landsbyen, lejligheden og ikke mindst at der både var en privat balkon og en pool nede i landsbyen, som vi frit kunne bruge.
Eneste lille anke var lidt kloaklugt i badeværelset, så udsugningen helst skulle være i gang det meste af tiden.

Por los comentarios, ya habíamos leído que había pendientes para llegar a la casa y entonces ya llevamos las cosas en una bolsa cómoda. La anfitriona estuvo pendiente de nuestra llegada y la casita tiene una ubicación excepcional para conocer el castillo de Monsanto y un poco el pueblecito, a pesar del calor que hacía.
Por poner un pero, el coste de la mascota 25 € al menos tendría que haber un comedero y bebedero para la mascota y un obsequio.

Reviewed Jun 16, 2026Our favorite stay in Portugal! 11/10 views- honestly you are making a huge mistake if you visit Monsanto and don't stay here. The flat is at the top of the mountain in a literal boulder with a patio that overlooks the town and gives the best sunset views. The host was SO hospitable, and helped us navigate a booking error hours prior to our arrival (she's a saint!!). She also maintained responsive communication for days/weeks prior to our arrival in order to give advice re: restaurants and help us secure dinner reservations.

De nada. Apenas recomendo aos próximos hóspedes que preparem um pequeno saco com apenas o que for necessário a subida até ao alojamento pode ser um um pouco exigente mas dentro daquilo que se espera quando se visita a aldeia. Apenas esteja preparado para isso.

Reviewed May 15, 2026Amazing location. Near the top of the village, with fabulous views from terrace, and built into the rock so interior has unique architectural feel. Friendly welcome, well equipped kitchenette, comfortable bed, and a good shower that almost feels like it is in a cave.
No complaints. Just be prepared for walk uphill with luggage from the car park.

We were fortunate to visit on a festival weekend and it was amazing. Breakfast and snacks were provided. We thoroughly recommend Casas da Villa.

Nous sommes très déçus par cette expérience. Lors de la réservation via Booking, l’annonce indiquait simplement que les chiens étaient “susceptibles d’entraîner un supplément”, sans mettre clairement en avant le montant exact. Aucun frais supplémentaire n’a été affiché au moment de la réservation, et il fallait lire l’annonce dans les moindres détails pour découvrir qu’ils facturaient en réalité 25 € par chien et par nuit. À notre arrivée, nous avons donc eu la très mauvaise surprise d’apprendre ce supplément extrêmement élevé et totalement disproportionné. Avec deux petits chiens, cela représentait une somme importante ajoutée au dernier moment, ce qui donne vraiment la sensation de s’être fait avoir. Nous comprenons qu’un hébergement puisse appliquer des frais pour les animaux, mais un montant aussi important devrait être affiché de manière claire, transparente et visible dès la réservation, afin d’éviter toute ambiguïté et mauvaise surprise. Cette pratique a malheureusement terni notre séjour et laissé un sentiment très désagréable.

Reviewed Apr 7, 2026A disponibilidade do check in , a simpatía e disponibilidade dos funcionarios, a localizacao, especialmente a vista das traseiras da casa (tem de sair pela janela ) e o pao fresco na porta de casa pela fresca , as 7h da manha, sem ninguem chatear respeitando a nossa privacidade e descanso.
Do colchão da cama e o facto do café disponivel para a estadia (capsulas) ser minimo, 1 capsula por pessoa, por dia. A Wc tambem tinha um cheiro mau mas nao por falta de limpeza, acho que era mesmo da canalizacao. A casa tambem nao tem muita luz, se pretendem passar muito tempo por casa, pode ser desagradavel.

Reviewed Apr 4, 2026A localização é excelente na calma vila de Monsanto. Deixarem os produtos tipicos, o pão na porta é bastante agradável. Tem todas as facilidades para se cozinhar e tomar o pequeno almoço em conforto.
Estava frio e ligámos o aquecedor que estava no quarto. Fomos incomodados pelas 09H00 porque o quadro tinha disparado e a casa de baixa estava sem eletricidade. Voltamos a ser incomodados pelo mesmo motivo ao fim do dia. No dia seguinte a pressa de termos que sair do alojamento. A senhora da limpeza sem ter batido, tentou entrar. Muito mau. O cilindro da água é comum para a casa de baixo, e o barulho da água sempre que usam é incomodativo.

You do have to carry your luggage up to the property but it’s worth it.

Reviewed Mar 17, 2026Wow! What a wonderful place. The house really exceeded our expectations. Everything from the decor to the heated towel bar, it was all wonderful. We appreciated the warm welcome we got from the host and the little extras like the bread delivery and the breakfast. We enjoyed the terrace for watching the sunset. The internet worked well to check emails and social media. We parked at the view point with no problems. Overall we wished we could have stayed longer, it was incredible location. One day was definitely not enough to enjoy the home and the area!
I wish we could have stayed longer or if for one day, or have arrived on a different day of the week. Everything was shut down on a Monday (as expected)! And there weren't many options for dining out. Totally not a problem, just something to plan ahead for if arriving on a Monday. But I will say that one of the bonuses of arriving on a Monday is that we basically had the castle to ourselves which was a cool experience.

We were in the 2 bed & it was just delightful, what a lovely, cosy space. Well thought out, quirky, yet everything you could want for your stay. And as others have mentioned, the sunset was amazing from the little terrace. We loved Monsanto & Casas da Villa, 100% recommend.
It's not really a dislike but it is a steep walk up from the car park to the house, more to be aware, as every step is worth it 👍😃

We had the apartment with the balcony and the views were stunning, overlooking the village and the mountains. The fridge was stocked with milk, fruit juices, delicious sliced ham and cheese, and fresh bread arrived every morning at 7:00. There was also a supply of jams, butter, and honey, coffee, sugar, tea, and a lovely basket full of cookies and other assorted treats. The apartment was spotless and well stocked with everything you need.
It was a little cool in the bedroom section as the heat from the heat pump didn’t radiate out to the bedroom, but we brought up a small portable heater we had in the car so we’re cozy with that on.

Es una vergüenza que por cada mascota te cobren 25 euros la noche y no lo indiquen en ningún momento en el proceso de reserva. Viajamos con dos perretes y nos cobraron 50 euros por una sola noche. Una verdadera estafa. Ni pet-friendly ni gaitas...

Reviewed Mar 2, 2026The property is a rustic village house which has tastefully restored using traditional local materials (stone, wood, cork). We stayed in the Casa de Villa. Very comfortable and clean. We were met by a friendly and polite young lady who I think is the owner. Breakfast was included and excellent. The house is situated in the higher part of the village so you’ll have to park at the entrance of the village on the main road as it is not possible to drive to the property; it’s a bit of a slog to carry the luggage up to the house but well worth it. After all that’s what makes Monsanto such a special place. The is a little roof terrace at the top with chairs and a table and we sat looking at the sunset and enjoying the lovely views; I really loved the place being a hobby photographer.

Considero importante trocar o colchão pois é muito mole, desconfortável.

La distance entre le parking et le logement est vraiment problématique. La montée est très rude avec les bagages sous 40°. Ils ne sont pas toujours disponibles pour venir chercher nos bagages à l'arrivée et au départ. Pas de parking spécifique pour le logement. Il faut vraiment avoir de la chance pour trouver une place sur le parking. Nous avons un petit chien qui nous a couté 25 euros par jour. Sur un autre site, c'est le même prix mais pour le séjour entier. Il manque des bols pour le petit déjeuner.

Café da manhã fraco, havia umidade nas paredes. Não tinha nenhum Café e restaurante na aldeia e também nada para poder comer na acomodação.
