Amazing location! Very clean, nice views and the Owner is very nice !

La terrasse de notre chambre offrait une vue exceptionnelle. Nous avons apprécié la gentillesse et le sourire de la personne qui s'occupait du ménage.

L'accueil du propriétaire n'était pas particulièrement chaleureux. Le lit est inconfortable et la chambre est trop encombrée de petits meubles inutiles. La maison en elle-même possède le style portugais et il n'est pas nécessaire de surcharger la chambre. Nous entendions les personnes occupant la chambre du dessus. La table et les 2 chaises de la terrasse pourraient être renouvelés

Nos encantó el estilo y los detalles antiguos. El sitio de ubicación, y la paz envolvente. De la habitación en general, amamos la terraza.

No nos pareció cómodo el colchón. Ya que estaba blando para nuestra condición corpórea. Estaría bueno, incluir neveras pequeñas. Y un plus encantador, sería el desayuno incluido. No hay señalización del espacio, y eso nos complicó la llegada.

Wunderschöner Ort – leider eine sehr schlechte Erfahrung mit den Gastgebern

Ich hatte spontan eine Nacht gebucht und freute mich, schnell einchecken zu können. Mein Zimmer war sehr hübsch, sauber und hatte eine wunderschöne Aussicht. Der Empfang durch den Besitzer war allerdings wenig freundlich. Wegen meiner beiden bei der Buchung angegebenen Hunde verlangte er zusätzlich 10 € in bar und betonte mehrfach, dass dies normalerweise 20 € kosten würde. Am Abend grillten die Besitzer gegen 23 Uhr auf ihrer Terrasse. Der Rauch zog in mein Apartment, sodass ich die Fenster schließen musste. Außerdem sind die Zimmer sehr hellhörig – Husten, Schnarchen und andere Geräusche aus dem Zimmer unter mir waren deutlich zu hören. Ich sah darüber hinweg. Da es am nächsten Tag regnete, ich von der Reise erschöpft war und mir Monsanto sehr gut gefiel, beschloss ich, noch eine Nacht zu bleiben und buchte zum gleichen Preis erneut über Booking.com. Bei dieser zweiten Buchung war für mich nicht ausreichend deutlich erkennbar, dass ich ein anderes Zimmer gebucht hatte. Die Fotos dieses konkreten Zimmers waren so wenig offensichtlich dargestellt, dass ich sie erst später mithilfe einer anderen Person fand. Da ich für beide Nächte den gleichen Preis bezahlte, ging ich davon aus, ein vergleichbares Zimmer zu erhalten. Mittags teilte mir der Besitzer mit, dass ich das Zimmer wechseln müsse. Das angebotene Zimmer hatte im Gegensatz zu meinem ersten Zimmer keine Aussicht und gefiel mir für den gleichen Preis deutlich weniger. Als ich nach einer Alternative fragte, wurde der Besitzer sehr unfreundlich und erklärte, ich müsse gehen und würde mein bereits bezahltes Geld verlieren. Als ich auf einer Rückerstattung bestand, drohte er mir mit der Polizei und bezeichnete mich als „keinen guten Menschen“. Kurz darauf kamen seine Frau und sein Sohn hinzu. Der Sohn war freundlich, seine Frau hingegen schrie mich an und wurde sehr schnell handgreiflich. Sie ging auf mich los und packte mich so fest am Arm, dass sie von den anderen zurückgezogen werden musste.

Excellent location, walking distance from sites. Breakfast was generous and served to our room. Well-equipped bedroom and en suite. Super-friendly hosts. Lovely old house with lots of character.

Le petit dejeuner pas à mon goût pas de vienoiserie ni gateau. Aucun entretien de la chambre le 2ème jour même pas débarrassé du plateau du petit déjeuner donc toute la journée dans chambre avec l'odeur de fromage et des œufs lorsque on est revenu le soir pour se coucher.. Obligé de descendre nous même le plateau et aéré la chambre très moyen dommage....

O lugar é lindo! Uma volta no tempo! O café da manhã muito bom, feito com muito carinho e entregue no quarto. Ficamos no quarto com varanda e o por do sol foi fantástico! Aconselho quem for para a vila, estacionar no 2º estacacionamento, o dos canhões. Ele é mais próximo da casa, portanto se estiver com mala andará menos.

Nada que possa denigrir o local ou a estadia. Somente a saída de água do box que demora muito para baixar parecendo estar entupido.

Beautiful village up in the mountain and this property was located with beautiful views. We stayed in a room with our own balcony and breakfast was served into our room. Other guests had their breakfast at the same balcony but behind a small fence, so it was quite private. There is not much soundproof so all noises can be heard from room to another. This property has nice and very cozy atmosphere. Scenery is superb.

Loved the location, you can really feel the soul of the village in an old property. The balcony was a great addition to an already great place.

There is no access by car. We had to carry the bags from the allowed parking are to the room. Apparently we can have parking tickets if we drive through the village. Maybe to negotiate loads and unloads for visitors, to reduce the distance to carry luggage.

A great location with a beautiful view over the valley. The stay is full of local charm and Monsanto was amazing. The host also has a local restaurant and he cooks the most amazing food. You will not be disappointed.

The tough hill climbing

Casa impecável e muito bem localizado com belas vistas!. Varanda muito agradável para nós de verão!

A localização junto ao castelo é incrível. O estacionamento na aldeia é perto. A vista é incrível e a varanda, de pedra com um pé de figueira e mesa permite desfrutar da tranquilidade da aldeia. As zonas comuns são muito bonitas e tem uma excelente biblioteca!

O colchão é um pouco mole mas confortável.

The view.. The breakfast was set out for us on the small terrace.

The room was small and the bed was very uncomfortable. There was no soap for the bathroom sink and the ensuite was very small. Everything was "tired". There was nowhere to hang clothes. The outside table and chairs were very worn in fact the seat on one was broken. The "restaurant" was tiny and the stools were uncomfortable. The menu was very limited and the " traditional" dishes were mainly one pot meals.

La habitación era extremadamente pequeña en un sótano frio y húmedo, nada pero que nada que ver con las fotos de Booking, un timo. TV sin señal, grifos sueltos, toallas de mala calidad y humedecido por el ambiente. Nada recomendable.

It was very well appointed and had an excellent location within the old city. There was a small balcony where one could eat breakfast or have a drink.

There were no tea/coffee making facilities, and no refrigerator.

Excelente fin de semana en Monsanto. Casa do Castelló es un sitio perfecto. La habitación muy cómoda y limpia y con un balcón con unas vistas estupendas.. El dueño Nuno es amable y muy colaborador. Recomendamos pedir el desayuno en la habitación. Merece la pena. Todo muy bien. Recomendamos y volveremos.

I had a great view of the valley.

The host was not helpful especially to find the place. It is very difficult to get to and he was useless. The entry stairs are very narrow are the stairs to the room. Very hard with a small suitcase and he offered.mo help. My booking said breakfast was included but when I checked in he wanted 30 bucks.

O quarto é do tamanho e do tipo que se pode esperar de uma casa rústica, de pedra e histórica. A experiência é boa no geral. Fica muito perto das ruínas do castelo e tem uma vista linda da região.

A chegada ao hotel pode ser melhor sinalizada. O Waze te leva à parte de trás da casa e você pode ter dificuldade pra encontrar a entrada correta da rua. Uma vez encontrada a rua correta, atenção ao fato de que há duas portas com o mesmo numero 5 (cinco) e com o mesmo tipo de fechadura das instruções de checkin. O anfitrião poderia explicar isso melhor, principalmente pra quem chega a noite. Leve a sua água, pois não há garrafas no quarto, nem como cortesia, nem pra comprar.

Die Lage ist toll und das Bett war bequem. Der Besitzer war zudem sehr nett und hat uns trotz der späten Stunde noch in seinem Lokal essen lassen.

Die tollen Bewertungen und Fotos führen ein bisschen in die Irre, sodass man eine viel höhere Erwartung hat. Wir hatten ein einfaches, kleines Zimmer ohne Balkon. Die Ausstattung ist sehr spartanisch – wirklich nur Bett, Bad und Handtücher. Es gab keine Flasche Wasser, kein Duschgel und keinerlei Komfort. Wahrscheinlich gibt es nur ein einziges Zimmer mit Balkon, so wie auf den Fotos zu sehen ist. Ich würde dieses Zimmer nicht noch einmal buchen.

Boendet var centralt beläget och mycket charmigt, med fantastisk utsikt från den egna balkongen! Stor och god frukost levererades till rummet på utsatt tid.

En ytterligare skylt vid huvudingången hade varit hjälpsamt. Det fanns en skylt vid en närbelägen dörr, men det var inte solklart för oss att denna dörr tillhörde samma verksamhet.

Excelente localização, no centro de Monsanto, anfitriões simpáticos e disponíveis a colaborar. A varanda do quarto com uma vista fantástica. Sala de entrada com uma decoração muito simpática e acolhedora.

Nuestra habitación no tenía vistas. No pudimos desayunar, estaba cerrado, estaba todo cerrado el domingo de Pascua de resurrección a las 10 de la mañana

A localização é mesmo dentro da aldeia, sala de entrada muito bonita e quarto com uma vista bonita.

A cama rangia muito com um simples movimento o pequeno almoço foi uma desilusão 2 carcaças do dia anterior, 4 fatias de queijo minusculas que cobriam apenas metade de um pão, o sumo péssimo, nunca tive um pequeno almoço tão mau! 92€ o quarto com pequeno almoço foi uma exploração!

Ter dormido confortável, apesar da acústica dos quartos ser fraca por ser possível ouvir as conversas vizinhas.

Falta de sabonete no lavatório. Falta de secador de cabelo. Gel e champô fraco. Falta de condições para se tomar o pequeno almoço que era apenas no quarto.

La atención del personal muy escasa, muy serio y escasa empatía.

La habitación decía que tenía terraza pero no había. La ducha estaba medio rota. Y la taza del baño estaba en un hueco que apenas podías sentarte. Además era muy pequeña y bastante zulo. Una habitación de 25€ no de 80€. Además solo se puede pagar en efectivo y te lo avisan en el momento de llegar.

Nuestra experiencia ha sido muy decepcionante. A las 17:30 recibimos un correo confirmando que todo estaba correcto y que nos estaban esperando. Sin embargo, a las 19:30, cuando ya estábamos prácticamente llegando al alojamiento (que además se encuentra en una zona bastante aislada), nos enviaron otro mensaje cancelando la reserva alegando un error de Booking y que no disponían de habitación. Esta situación nos dejó completamente desamparados, ya en ruta y sin alternativas cercanas, obligándonos a desviarnos y conducir aproximadamente una hora más para encontrar otro lugar donde alojarnos. Considero que esto demuestra una falta total de seriedad y de gestión. Un establecimiento no puede confirmar una reserva y cancelarla dos horas después cuando el cliente ya está en camino. Da la sensación de que las habitaciones se asignan sin control o incluso al mejor postor. Deberían revisar urgentemente su sistema de reservas y cancelaciones para evitar perjudicar de esta manera a los clientes. No es una situación aceptable bajo ningún punto de vista.

A vista do quarto é execional e localização excelente.

A funcionária era extremamente antipática, já o dono da habitação foi impecável. O que menos gostei foi o check out ser às 11h e às 10:59 a funcionária já estava a bater à porta, sendo que o horário de verão alterou na nossa estadia, portanto ficamos com menos uma hora. O pequeno almoço por 20€ deixa muito a desejar.

Visual incrível , vista da pequena vila e do sino, local confortável e banho bem quente. A sala de entrada decorada para boas fotos. Monsanto especia com certeza vale a visita.

O quarto não cheirava bem, tinha um cheiro a esgoto que nos incomodou!! O AC apesar de estar sempre ligado parecia que o quarto não aquecia, no entanto não tivemos frio.

Perfect location, wonderful views, traditional character property.

No where to park near the property, one needs to drive up to the property to drop off luggage and then reverse down the one narrow lane road to the parking area. The establishment only accepts cash payments upfront, not good at all. Similarly the restaurant only accepts cash payments. So one must come prepared to avoid embarrassement. No chance to give our tax ID for an official receipt which, as Portuguese residents, we would have expected to receive. Internet is weak. Given the remoteness of the property the proprietor should look at installing starlink. The property is understaffed. It looks like the proprietor cleans, cooks, and receives guests without any support from others. Poor quality beds in the rooms. Toiletries and more towels in the bathrooms would have been welcomed.

Ótima localização, grandes vistas, check-in fácil e rápido e disponibilidade por quem nos atendeu.

Apesar da amabilidade de quem nos atendeu, o que deixou a desejar foi mesmo o pequeno-almoço: entregue à porta do quarto às 09:00, sem haver um aviso prévio da hora exata. Além disso, não tínhamos como repor café e alguns produtos eram de fraca qualidade.

We liked how close it was to the attraction... the top of the mountain.

Let me preface this with we live in Portugal and know what to expect in our country when traveling. We don't have high expectations of luxury. We knew this property was not a 10. To start with there was not a lot of information about where to park. A map of where the facility is located would be helpful. To say, "Park over by the church," is not acceptable. Furthermore, everyone is coming by car. I don't know how else you'd stay here. The roads are very narrow and the locals don't seem appreciative that you're driving through their streets. Parking here is a problem. Just know you will be dragging your luggage up the hill. Secondly, upon our arrival, we were called and asked for payment from the owner. Not a "welcomee to our B&B" just where is your payment. Our calls kept going to his voicemail and we were trying to get to our room. We luckily ran into the house cleaner and she figured out where our key might be. We finally MBWay'd the funds to the owner and was given our key. We unloaded our luggage and went for a walk to find a restaurant to eat dinner. By the time we got down the hill, the owner was calling me back because the next guest couldn't get into his room and, "would I return to the room so that he could get into the downstairs apartment." I obliged and walked back to the room. This new guest must've thought I was the "help" because he was rude to me and wouldn't get out of my as I tried to leave. Next, if you are coming on Monday you will not find a restaurant open. NOT ONE! You will have to go to the next town about 10Km away with one restaurant to choose from. It would've been helpful to know this ahead of time since my has diabetes and needs to eat at certain times. Oh, and this is not a B&B... just a Bed, no breakfast! There was construction happening across the path from our entrance and we had to fight with dirt being thrown from a truck onto the sidewalk.

Tolle Lage, mit niedlichen Balkon und fantastischer Aussicht. Wir hatten mit Frühstück gebucht. Haben das Frühstück auf unser Zimmer bekommen und konnten so auf unseren Balkon die Aussicht genießen. Es war alles Super, absolut empfehlenswert.

Location is pretty amazing really - right in the middle of probably the most charming town I have ever seen. The place is adorable, though quite cozy. We only very briefly interacted with the owners when we arrived, but they were very friendly and welcoming.

Our particular room was in basement level and, since the town is halfway embedded in granite, that particular room would benefit from a dehumidifier. My friend’s allergies were not psyched, but we slept well enough and the enchantment of the surroundings was well worth it. :)
