Reviewed Sep 16, 2026I liked the place, the arrangements, the owner and his wife are very nice people. They do this with their heart because they love it. The place is good if you are travelling solo or with friends or spouse. Walkable distance from the station and neat and clean.

施設に問題は全くないのですが、とある隣国の３人組のマナーが最悪でした 1.早朝3時から普通の声で話す 2.熊鈴を鳴らしながらパッキング 3.缶やペットボトル、紙の分別を一切せずに黒い袋に入れて捨てて出発 登山をするようだったが、こういう輩が上高地にゴミを捨てていくのだろうと残念な気持ちになった 熊鈴は、山小屋はもちろん、バスや電車などではザックから外し、消音すること直接伝え、気をつけて行ってくるようにと玄関で見送った ゴミは、彼らにかわって分別しておきました 国内ではもちろんだが、海外では自分が母国の代表であるつもりで行動したいものだ

Reviewed Sep 15, 2026是一户建，离松本站很近，步行十分钟就可以到达～我用很低的价格，和另一个女生共同享受了一个很舒适的空间🫶🏼门口有一条小河，你可以在那里享受时光～～老板是一个很热情很友善的人，这一切让我感觉到舒心
窗外电车的声音有一些难以避免，房客退房的时间各不相同，所以早上可能会有一些动静，我觉得租客可以自备一些耳塞以备不时之需

Reviewed Sep 13, 2026I booked Matsumoto backpackers but they offered me a private room at Hanko Inn instead. It was a small room with a bunk. Comfortable bed. Great location.
I had a very strange reception from the girl working there. No hello or welcome. When I opened the door, I thought am I in the right place? She was very distant, and aloof. I had to go to an atm to get the cash to pay for the room, and again another awkward exchange when I returned. I’ve been backpacking since 2008, and the guesthouse and space reminded me of old places back then. It was run down, a little smelly , and they gave me a tiny towel. The bathroom was small, the toilet blocked easily. Hostels in Japan have pretty high standard, and this place felt so rundown and old. It was great to have a private room, but everything else, wasn’t great. I spent my two days on day hikes, so essentially the room was just a place to crash. I plan to return to Matsumoto in winter, and will not be staying here.

Reviewed Sep 2, 2026Staff was friendly, owner was highly knowledgeable about the area and had loads of information on day trips to take and written instructions on how to get there. They had recommendations for local restaurants as well. Very helpful if you haven’t planned much and are looking for resources to plan your stay! Location was also great, close to the bus station and restaurants, and attractions.
Sleeping conditions were very difficult. I can sleep through basically anything and am used to humidity, but there was absolutely no airflow in the mixed dorm while I was there. The air conditioner is located above one of the bunks, and I’m not sure if the person in that bed was turning off the air conditioner or if it was auto turning off, but trying to sleep was miserable. I woke up every single hour because it was so stuffy and hot and was basically just laying there sweating. Similarly, there is only one window in the room, that is somewhat hidden, also situated behind someone’s bunk. Fixing the ventilation in the mixed dorm is absolutely vital. I feel this could be done by offering a remote for the air conditioner accessible to all or writing a note that the window must stay open if the air is off. The showers are also very dated and didn’t look appealing to use.

Reviewed Jul 20, 2026数年前と変わらず、宿主がとてもフレンドリーで出迎えてくれたこと。他のゲストとも出会えたこと。歩いて行ける距離にスーパー銭湯もあり、近所にはクラフトビール、ワインを楽しめるお店もありと、便利です。通りから少し離れており、夜は静か。実家に居るような安心感と、そこそこ古い建物でも丁寧に掃除され、維持されています。
当日は、グループ宿泊？の方々と同じタイミングとなり、グループならではの盛り上がりもありと、少しゴチャついて居ました。これが、この形態の宿での滞在ならではで、私には少し居心地よく、とは行かなかった点ですが、これは個人的な感想で同じ感覚の方に参考になればと思います。

Nice kitchen, shower, bed, etc. I stayed in nicer places before but made very few friends there to go see the sights with. But here i found many.
The AC in my bunk room only mildly worked.

1. The price is high compared to other hostels in Japan and what you get here, I booked here only due to rain as I didn’t intend to stay in the town overnight. 2. There’s not much space, it’s quite narrow although I felt comfortable because there was wasn’t many people around.

Had lovely chats with Brian who gave us some local and hiking recommendations! The location is really close to the train station and we were also able to leave out luggage there for a few hours before our next train

Reviewed May 21, 2026At first didn’t like the set up in old Japanese style house but then liked it a lot. Sleeping on futon,on the floor,nice windows,reasonably equipped kitchen,old style shower areas. Quite a lot of space as only four futons in reasonable size room. Very nice owner and staff.

It was very loud … I has the bed close to the street and there is like a paper wall, very beautiful and traditional Japanese one but you could really hear the street noise. Furthermore you could hear everything that was happening in the kitchen or in the bathroom from the bedroom. And to end with, it is not the fault of the hostel but the other persons I shared the room with were so loud, there was a group of 3 friends speaking in the dormitory like if they were in their living room … not understanding what is a shared dormitory … so I had pretty bad night there and was really tired after

Reviewed Apr 3, 2026Staff and owner were really nice, the room was okay, clean toilet and common areas. I was in a mixed dorm and it felt safe with luckily no one snoring lol :D
The tipical heater used in Japan smelled a lot like gasoline in the room at the beginning which was unpleasant. A bit too cold in the common areas and they maybe need to find another way on how people can get into the hostel.

On nous a aussi proposé de laisser nos bagages quelques jours, le temps d'aller à Kamikochi et faire quelques randonnées.

東へ歩くと最大12時間料金のコインパーキングがあるが、中々空かない。 日本語が通じなく、隣の部屋でいつまでも大声で話していて止める人がいない。 パイプの2段ベッドを選択してしまい、ギシギシ揺れるのと腰が痛かった。 深夜チェックアウトなのに寝付けなかった。

Reviewed Aug 29, 2025It was located in front of a very pretty river and close to the center of the city. Owner was nice.
It was really cramped, no privacy at all, even when taking a shower it was divided in two so you basically showered next to the other person, again, reaaallyyy small, the privacy curtains didn’t even cover the whole bed so people can still see you. We were 6 people in a really tiny room, it’s not worth the price at all, you can clearly tell that this house is not capable of hosting that many people at once, it literally felt like a jail cell, maybe a jail cell has more space than this room. I’ve stayed at a lot of hostels and this was by far the worst one I’ve ever been to, it’s expensive for what you get, and it’s a real shame because the house is really pretty and has great location, if only it had better management and the owner less greedy it would be worth the price.

Staff seemed oblivious saying there were no lockers even though there were, and the washing machine didn’t work. Worst was the insane heat inside though. It was more comfortable in the 30 degree celcius sun outside. Also the trashcans were always full. In short reminds of the cheapest hostels in South East Asia even though it is priced similar to other hostels in Japan.
