Beautiful facilities. Excellent service. We slept like babies! Highly recommend.

I liked the fun decor and walk-in shower. Very comfortable beds and the hotel’s toiletries were wonderful. Also, the staff in the restaurant were very friendly and helpful.

I didn’t like having to sign up for a new app in order to receive my valet parked car when departing the hotel. I found it inconvenient and clumsy. The valet customer service as a whole was not welcoming or helpful and at $40 a night felt somewhat unreasonable.

This property is historic, beautiful and well-maintained. When I stay in hotels of this type, my expectation is above-average service, and amenities which was simply not the case. To start, the room I was assigned on the top floor was changed when I arrived and they place a $100 per day stay room damage deposit on check-in that took many days to be cleared on my card. The room was spacious, clean, quiet and modern with the ultra-plush beds (extremely soft which is nice for some, but I needed back support making my stay pretty painful) and a large walk-in shower. Housekeeping for those staying more than a day is not until the late afternoon so we never got the room cleaned even though we asked management. Daily requests had to be made for towels, soap & toilet paper. The parking option for the hotel was valet at $43 per day however, the garage they use behind the building is available for self-park at $10 per day max. Hotels of this type normally provide things like lemon water or morning pastries and coffee downstairs for guests, there were no amenities like that. This was a little disappointing stay for such a beautiful hotel of this level. The whole atmosphere is lowered when the service level and amenities were just so minimal especially in housekeeping. Be aware that downtown Des Monies is very clean but mainly business buildings so people are not actively walking the street. There are a few good restaurants around the downtown area however you will need to drive to get to most of them.

How is this at the top rated hotel in Des Moines? Our son has lived in the city for seven years and we have stayed at every hotel in town, I swear, with his variety of moves. This was, hands-down, our best stay. What it lacks in location convenience, it makes up in every other thing. The room itself was modern, spotless, and well appointed. They lean into their history in a fun and cheeky way that is perfection. The ghosties down the hall and all references to the history were so fun. The speakeasy is great, the breakfast café was delightful. We absolutely love this hotel. So glad that we found you.

Beautifully maintained historic hotel in downtown DSM - minutes from Sculpture Park and Art Museum. Rooms are large, quiet and comfortable. Well designed. Staff is professional and kind. Shout out to Christie V at the front desk for showing incredible kindness and patience to a really difficult couple who just wanted to argue. She was incredible…

They would say historic. But in many ways it is just old and strange. Looks like there have been several attempts at piecemeal updates over the decades in conflicting styles and to different degrees of quality. It is in need of another. The lobby decor and furniture is worn and odd. The hall carpeting odd. The room furniture is cheap ikea-like laminate and chipped and marked. Maybe I'm being too picky for Des Moines. The staff seems to be willing.

Best hotel in Des Moines. Valet are personable, quick and super friendly. Front desk is amazing. 10 out of 10 place to stay.

Almost all of your valet staff are friendly, helpful and thoughtful. I stay at the Hotel Fort Des Moines. They recognize me and greet me accordingly. Jack is particularly pleasant and thoughtful.

Literally everything! The building is beautiful and the staff were very welcoming. Extremely nice room - pretty and clean and probably the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept on. Just down the block from an incredible local coffee shop also.

Paid parking is a bummer, but there is a garage right behind the hotel (more cost effective than paying for valet service).

Stephanie was very helpful at the valet.

Some minor repairs in the bathroom wouldn’t be difficult to do. Water pressure in the shower was annoyingly low. A little more information at the check in would be very helpful, especially about the parking.

Fantastic experience- clean rooms, excellent staff! If you are there on Saturday, be sure to go to the Farmers Market a few blocks from the hotel.

Great experience. Great customer service when checking in. Loved the rooms, the bedding was wonderful, the towels were oversized, all of the extra touches were great. We will stay again!

The hotel was fantastic. Everyone was so nice. We bonded with the Valet, Stephanie. She always greeted us with a smile and chatted about what we were doing. Such a lovely person!

Loved the location!

I liked the suite because it offered two separate bedrooms. The outdoor spa was nice.

Breakfast was only offered until 9:30am, not 10am. The door leading to one of the bedrooms was broken. The bathroom tub could use updating.

Hotel was fine, but I was expecting a lot more after reading about this historic gem. Rooms were very sparse and strange, not a pen to be found. We were there for a wedding, and the check in staff failed to hand out important information cards to the guests. The wait staff during the wedding were incredible, 5 star review! Beautiful Venue.

Other than housekeeping the property all round was lovely

Our only issue was housekeeping each day seemed to be something, entered without knocking, had to request the room be made up to return after a day out to not be done, then arrive when we were back in our room, one day only provided one towel for two people, next no toilet paper, so ran out

I loved everyone at the Valet! Allison, Paris and Anna were awesome. Great rooms, food and front desk staff as well. I will be back next time when I'm in town for work.

Everything was perfect from the moment we walked in, our room clean and spotless, food was amazing and service was stellar!

Hotel is historic and beautiful. Rooms are nice. Food for wedding venue was good! For a Hilton Hotel they lack in customer service which was disappointing and a bit embarrasing for us as we had almost our entire guest list stay at the hotel. Would be cautious in working with catering sales manager who is inexperienced and did not follow catering contract details for wedding. Thank goodness outside vendors and wedding coordinator were excellent!

Hotel leans heavily into its historic pedigree [Carpets list many of the rich and famous and powerful who slept there]. Having said that it is a nice property. A little dated, but that goes with territory and its not a detraction. Front desk is outstanding. Plentiful parking.

What a fabulous and hospitable stay we had at the Hotel Fort Des Moines last weekend!! We were in town for a family event and the staff, especially William, made our stay most memorable. The service was impeccable, the rooms were spotless and the location was premier for any activities in the Des Moines area. We stayed with you on Thursday, 3/12-3/13 of 2026 ~ My husband & I were making an ľunplanned trip to Minneapolis, Minnesota for our Uncle's Living Memorial. This was our 1st time ever coming to DesMonise! Finding this unique hotel was a fun stopover as we were driving from OK! The lady who checked us in was Very Kind & went above & beyond with her charming hospitality ~ we checked in approx. 9 -10 pm (maybe this can help you figure out her name!) A "Good Morning" hospitality bar set-up in the lobby consisting of simple coffee, juice, & pastries would add a special touch! You could have a few high top tables for people to stand around & visit ~ or, maybe have samples from your restaurants that could entice some to "come on in" for more! This could generate that hustle & bustle atmosphere of the 1920's & 30's! The secret doors & hallway to the Speakeasy was perfect!! This was our 2nd Speakeasy to explore! We loved it! Our server was funny & engaging and the bartender was spot-on with mixing our drinks ~ an Amaretto sour & one of your coctails called, Sazerac ~ I think that's the name! Then, there was Tom! My husband met him in the Lobby while retrieving a cart. He arrived at our room at just the time f my husband had requested! He was a huge help loading the cart, took it to our car, and loaded it all ~ so, when we came down - our car was loaded, warmed up, & ready for us to be on our way to MN! Tom was very polite and respectful as well as a gentleman, by opening my door!! Thank you for a positive stay that was important considering where we were going on why!! Thank You ~ Thank You!!!

I had a brand new car so was a little hesitant to use valet as the weather was terrible, but the team was very careful and handled everything efficiently and with a smile.

Ruthann was a very kind person, she was very kind and helpful on trying to find a phone.

Amazing property for the price

My wife and I visited the restaurant for the first time this weekend and had a wonderful breakfast. We highly recommend dining at the HobNob Coffee and Wine Bar.

The property is very elegant and historic feeling with beautiful touches of whimsey.

I did not get to spend enough time there. Also would have liked longer blanket on beds, it looked great but felt short sheeted when I got tucked in.

The breakfast was very good, however it was much more costly than I would expect for a breakfast. The beds were very comfortable and the shower was good. We also loved the fitness room. I wish they had a whirlpool or sauna.

The person who checked us in was very abrupt and not very friendly. He could have offered the information that we had to ask for later. I was also hoping for a little more space in our room.

It's a very pretty building inside and out. Great location, I like that it's connected to the skyway. Rooms were comfortable and clean.

A bit pricey but you get what you pay for.
