Breakfast was delicious. Service excellent. We were allowed in our room early.
Nothing
very atmospheric old inn, all wonky floors and low beams. Great location in Old Amersham, v convenient for party I was attending and the surrounding area is well worth a stroll. Room was comfortable.
as is usual for these old buildings, sound proofing wasn't good - could hear water rushing through pipes when neighbours used their bathroom, and someone snoring nearby. The regular opening and closing of the cleaners' supply cupboard right outside my bedroom door didn't help either as I attempted a bit of a lie in on a Sunday morning. The buffet fried breakfast wasn't great - maybe just bad timing on my part (arrived 2hrs into the service window) but several components were lukewarm and tasted like they'd been sitting for quite a while.
Very good choice of cooked or continental breakfast

Our premium room was upgraded to a suite which was exceptionally comfortable and with a lovely roll top bath
Nothing, it was a fabulous stay
Breakfast was excellent, both in terms of the service provided and the food content. The surroundings were pleasant too.
Some of the carpets in the common areas were a little shabby.
The room was large. Very clean. Lovely eclectic bits of furniture in the room. Spacious bathroom. Comfortable superking size bed Staff friendly and helpful. Good parking Well situated
Nothing
Nice room and breakfast, great location and good parking
Posizione, pulizia e personale
Historical setting and location
Poor quality meat on breakfast buffet. Surcharge for cappuccino at breakfast.
The nod to design in an area that can be more old school than my taste
We were there the day before a wedding so the focus was on that - which is fair.
Great location in lovely Amersham Old town. The Crown has a nice feel about it. Although our room was quite small, it was very clean and comfortable. The staff we encountered were all very well-mannered and helpful
Not much. It was as expected. The quality cooked breakfast wasn't outstanding but adequate

The evening meal was excellent. The bed was very comfortable.
Constantly, throughout the night the extractor fan from the kitchen roared outside our room. I was unable to sleep. I complained to the manager and she said she was sorry. It is not enough when someone pays a lot of money for a room to have such a weak response from the management team. It appears they are not empowered to offer some form of compensation for such a poor quality environment.
Location is excellent.
The first deluxe!!! room we were given, was dark, gloomy, grotty bathroom, no wardrobe, just two hangers on a shelf and no other furniture. We moved to a new room in the courtyard. It was much better but certainly not four star.
Always love The Crown 👑 when we visit, and nice to get an upgrade.
Absolutely nothing.
Great location -had lunch in the courtyard with family who came to see us. But early evening went into the bar for a drink to take outside to courtyard as a lovely evening only to be told that we could get drinks/food etc as all areas closed to public for a party that had hired the building. Went to there sister hotel for a drink but no where to sit outside. Buffet breakfast on Sunday morning not very good but on Monday morning it was a fresh breakfast so better
Poor breakfast & the windows in our room needed a really good clean outside
Great location near the Church in lovely Amersham Old Town. We received a room upgrade which was very welcome. Friendly staff. Good outdoor bar area for pre-wedding drinks.
Breakfast was average not excellent.
Parking is behind the hotel and can fill up, especially if there’s a special event taking place. The hotel was constructed beginning in the 16th century. Our room was in a newer building and was very large. Being newer, it didn’t have the character of the old buildings. The room had a separate sitting room and there was a tub in the bedroom. I felt the room was clean although some furnishings could stand to be replaced and the carpet was in need of a good cleaning. The room had A/C and a small refrigerator. Sleep quality was only ok as there was an intermittent exterior mechanical sounding noise that would come on for a few seconds about every fifteen minutes. Like in many villages the hotel facilities can be hired out for private events. That was the case the evening of our stay. For dinner we went down to the Crown’s sister hotel, The Kings Arms. Guests at one hotel receive a 10% discount when eating at the other. The breakfast buffet was adequate and consisted mainly of items in a full English. There were few options. Staff were slow to refill empty platters on the buffet line. For those not wanting a full English there were some additional hot options one could request.
Such character! Most of the staff were super friendly and helpful too. So fabulous to find a great dog friendly option too.
Perfect location Very comfortable hotel with good car parking facilities

Roast on Sunday - bar that it was perfect!
The location is great, and the old / original buildings are beautiful and in good condition
The Bailey suite building that we stayed in was tired - stained carpet in our room, sofa bed was old and uncomfortable for my son to sleep on
Straight off the plane, chosen because of location, The Crown was a very pleasant surprise. Lots of character, efficient and friendly staff, good breakfast in a charmingly traditional room.
Bit pricey for an overnight stop and the room in the yard was authentically large and rather cold, much as it no doubt was 100 years ago.
The hotel has a lovely traditional feel to it. Ticked all the boxes.
Nothing.
Buffet breakfast could be improved. Buffet cooked breakfast was not of expected quality.
The bathroom was new, nicely designed and the water pressure was excellent. Beds were comfy. Staff at reception were delightful. We were in the back near the car park which I think are much quieter than the older rooms on the street.
Carpets in communal area leading to the rooms (by the car park) were absolutely filthy. My room had clearly not been hoovered. The biggest let down was breakfast - having seen the award certificates in reception we were expecting good things! It was honestly one of the worst hotel breakfasts I have had. The bacon was so fatty and barely cooked - as were the sausages. The cereal, fruit, pastry selection was limited and poor quality. There was one organic pot of yoghurt on display. The water bottle was always emptied and not refilled unless asked - why not have multiple so people can take one to their table if it's tap water? We ordered the avo and poached egg from the al carte menu which was bland and just very average.
Everything from the setting to the beautiful suite! The staff were above and beyond
Nothing it was perfect!
Mycket charmigt hotell i gammal klassisk miljö.
Duschavloppet fungerade mycket dåligt.
Great location for my work trip to High Wycombe and Watford. Staff were lovely and helpful even when I left my key in my room !! Plenty of room in the car park..
The location was ideal and we loved the history and culture of Amersham Old Town.
We liked everything.
Clean
A lovely old coaching inn right in the heart of old Amersham. Good car parking at the rear. Spacious, comfortable room and very attentive, polite staff.
Television reception was poor and channels bit minimal.
The room was lovely, open space along with a work table. Had dinner and a few drinks, along with breakfast. No faults with regards the food or staff.
Location, onsite parking, well mannered and welcoming staff.
Our en suite bathroom door didn’t shut. The second light in the bathroom was practically not working. The faucet for the bathroom was terrible in terms of water distribution. The mattress dipped massively in a spot causing an uncomfortable sleep. The air conditioning which admittedly was a very nice touch for this property made loud sounds every few minutes.
Fantastic value for money
Everything was perfect
Quaint.
Clean updated rooms in old part of hotel, staff were exemplary, good price, and very nice atmosphere. Breakfast included was above expectations.
The new section could use some updating to the carpets, however I did not stay in that part.
Very nice place, nice breakfast, comfy room amd bed. Friendly helpful staff.
The hotel is gorgeous, with many charming and characterful features. The rooms are beautiful and the hotel sits, right in the middle of Old Amasham, with delightful independent shops, cafes and restaurants all around. The breakfast offers a great choice and the serving staff are very helpful. It is one of our favourite hotels.
This time, we were unfortunately above a noisy vent from the kitchen. Luckily, this was turned off around 10pm, so didn’t affect our sleep.
Everything - Staff - Food - Service - all aspects of room location
We had Room 8 and shower was poor -- unable to adjust - not suitable for child use in present condition
Lovely old building. We had a 16th century wall painting in our room!
Staff was very pleasant. The room was clean. Air conditioning was wonderful.
Well located clean modern attractive rooms
The location and the staff were wonderful & the breakfasts were very good, although there was a miscommunication regarding breakfast time on the Saturday. It was supposed to be 10:30, we got there for 10:00 and were told the breakfast had finished due to them having a wedding that day. They had cleared out the breakfast room of all tables & chairs and were bringing in wedding seating. The staff were supposed to have told all guests the night before about the timings. Anyway it was soon rectified and they managed to serve us a lovely breakfast in the restaurant after speaking to chef. The girl who arranged this for us was fantastic…very attentive & couldn’t apologise enough…thank you!
I wouldn’t say the rooms were anything like we have stayed in before that was 4 star. Very basic & dated/worn. I know it’s an extremely old property and that brings the charm but the tv, kettle, iron etc were very old and made it feel a bit neglected. Just an honest review. I was told we’d been upgraded to a deluxe room…there was nothing deluxe about this room in my opinion.
Olde worlde feel. Pleasant staff .Quiet. Nicely situated in the charming old town. Good food, well presented.
Early morning noise. Staff pushing wheelie bins on cobbled pathwsy
Really lovely room, felt luxurious and clean.
I would only change the breakfast to make the full English fresh for each person.
The Air con, variety of breakfast choice, comfortable bed, massive shower ample carparking, location...what isn't there to like.
Blind didn't really block out much light, so summer mornings youre up early.
Bathroom was very roomy and the main hotel was full of history
Nothing
Nice cosy rooms, very good breakfast, and a comfortable bed
Nothing
Our first room was dirty, dark, next to a kitchen ventilation system with a dripping bath in the main room. The room was poorly maintained. The carpets in the hallways were stained and just looked dirty. We were moved to a new room which was considered an upgrade but the carpets in the hallways were even more dirty and the room was ordinary at best.
Historic property in charming Village. I loved the king bed and included breakfast. Staff and location are excellent.
I would have liked easier access to cold water; as it was the bartender would always make me a cold water upon request. The TV was a little bit small to watch from the bed, which normally I wouldn’t care about, but it’s World Cup time and I would’ve liked a nice big beautiful TV to watch the games.
The room was clean and well set out, with a comfortable bed and working TV. The location in Old Amersham was great.
Coffee machine in the room had no coffee available, coffee at breakfast was unpleasant, and they wanted me to pay extra for an espresso. Breakfast itself was not very nice, eggs rubbery, bacon tasteless. Bathroom and shower were not bad but not the highest quality.
The food was excellent and the room was very comfortable.
Our overnight stay was good. But what made the stay fantastic was the brilliant service and kindness shown by the morning staff who very kindly served us & our additional guests, who had flown in from Australia very early that morning, a later than usual breakfast in the courtyard. They were kind and gracious with their hospitality. 💯
It was full of character and in a lovely town and just 30 minutes from Heathrow.
Historic interesting property, nice rooms, good breakfast.
Lack of staff, no food or drink available during the day. Very poor for a hotel that size. Told by bland and unwelcoming receptionist that no food available, no explanation even though website states there is food available and the bar is open during lunch /afternoon. Misleading. Was told to go to sister hotel Kings Arms instead ! One of 2 things happening here, no staff available, poor recruitment or sickness , my thoughts however believe to be a business decision by the owners to save money. In peak season July. Very bad.
Sehr uriges Gasthaus.
Beautifully historic building. It was very clean. The staff pleasant and helpful. The breakfast and dinner were both delicious. The shower was awesome and the bed superb. Great outdoor space
The food and drink prices were a little steep for us but seemed competitive for the area. I am not sure how accessible the place would be for those less mobile than us
Great location and loads of character.
Air con in the bedroom
Arriving early on the hottest day of the year and being told to come back at 3. What a welcome! How about: "Unfortunately your room isn't ready yet but please take a seat in the bar. Can I get you a cold drink or tea or coffee?" Just a suggestion!
Lovely old hotel right on the high street Good GF breakfast Very comfortable room Parking onsite
Comfy bed, central location,
Nothing we were happy with our stay
Wonderful staff, quirky yet comfortable rooms, great breakfast options.
Very helpful staff
Staff - very efficient and professional but most importantly friendly and willing to chat. Room - Worth paying extra for a deluxe room. Mine was a Bailey room on the ground floor - number 112. It had a very comfortable HUGE bed and superb shower. Very spacious with plenty of storage space both drawer and hanging. A bonus having a Nespresso machine in the room. Food - plentiful and very well cooked and presented. Coffee at breakfast was excellent.
Room - The bathroom door is incredibly heavy and VERY difficult to open from the inside. It simply requires an adjustment on the closure. If I was less able the hotel would have had to find an alternative room. Not really a criticism but there were way too many cushions on the bed - style over substance perhaps or simply a lack of common sense! Also only one chair for a large double room seemed odd.
It was easy to park at the hotel and we were greeted by a friendly receptionist who told us we'd been upgraded, which was great. The room was in the old, characterful part of the hotel, and it was clean and comfortable. The ensuite was good, with plenty of clean towels, and there was air conditioning which worked.
We'd had quite a late night out with family, so I was pleased to read that breakfast went on an extra 30mins at the weekend, giving us a chance for a nice lie-in. Unfortunately we were rudely awakened by the fire alarm, soon after 6am. We listened for sounds of running footsteps, or shouts which might mean this was a real emergency, but none came and the alarm stopped. Then, seconds later it went off again, then stopped, and this happened several times, to the point where I had my pillow over my head to save my ears from the din. Eventually it stopped, but by this time our lovely lie-in was gone. We did take advantage of the slightly extended breakfast window, but in hindsight this was a mistake. On arrival in the breakfast area the orange juice container was empty and there were no staff nearby to request more. Once sat at our table we looked at the breakfast menu and I selected scrambled eggs on sourdough, only to be told there was no more sourdough, so I switched to having the 'full English'. Unlike our previous stays at The Crown, the 'full English' is now self-service, so I went to help myself from heated trays, having first had to go out to get some toast from the toast maker in the lobby. The contents of the trays were not particularly appetising; the streaky bacon looked undercooked and very greasy, the sausages were far from being plump and meaty, the hash browns looked like they'd sat in the tray for too long, and only the scrambled egg (fortunately) looked reasonable. Unfortunately the taste of the items I selected matched my first impressions and none of it was very warm. My husband's avocado with poached eggs, which was cooked in the kitchen and brought out to him, was very nicely presented and would have been a far better choice.
Lots of character! Welcoming and friendly staff. Cannot fault anything! Will return!
Nothing
It was all very good. We ate in the bar in the evening and the food was excellent.
Average. I had the smashed avocado on toast but only one egg had a yoke and it was only warm when served. Location of the hotel was great.
Breakfast could have been better.
So welcoming 🙏
Lovely old period pub in a very central location to Amersham . The downstairs area was very traditional and the breakfast and dinner were lovely. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful
The bedroom was a bit tired with little character . It was clean but the bathroom was up a very narrow steep staircase which was a concern in the middle of the night . The pub has so much potential but just needs modernization. For a tip of how to make it fantastic head off to the Swan Inn in Fittleworth
Excellent position close to everything.Room very comfortable.Staff very helpful.
I had lost my ring down the plug and the Engineer kindly retrieved it for me, which was a big relief so thank you very much.❤️ We also like it as we were able to take our Golden Retrievers who is welcomed there.
Clean and friendly
Bathroom door very hard to open
Very quirky hotel full of character, staff very friendly, very good breakfast
Everything was fine however many steps to negotiate
Excellent clean room, comfy bed, great shower. Fantastic breakfast. Helpful staff. Will definitely stay there again.
All round excellent experience, recommended on all bases. We came with a 4 month old and felt especially well looked after.
Brilliant size shower. Friendly waiting staff and helpful receptionist. Dinner and breakfast perfect.
Was central
Needed 2 hands to open bathroom door
Shortage of staff at breakfast. Pricing is unrealistic: >£16 for a pint of draught ale and a medium wine. £197 for a small room with queen sized bed! Tge air-conditioning did not work, so fortunately the nice chap at reception gave us another room with a king sized bed. Poor sound insulation means you can join in the lifestyle of those in the room above!
See above
The location was great
We had booked a main hotel room which advised it came with bathrobes and air conditioning but ended up with a courtyard room and no robes. The breakfast as chaotic and possibly the worst buffet set up I have encountered. Staff were totally miserable and we had to constantly ask for things.
I’m
Central to what we wanted
Nothing
Staff great Dinner exceptional
Little or no WiFi in room ..despite mentioning early evening nothing was done about it that night or in the morning Was a business trip and WiFi needed so not great Cushions and carpet stained in room ... considering price was not value for money
Beautifully situated
Everything was as I expected it to be
Special old building
Nothing
Not much really. We added a night prior to our Booking.com reservation as our travel plans changed. Person I spoke to in order to arrange this was helpful.
On arrival we were shown to room 7, which was awful. The strong smell of 'wet dog' hit us as we entered. The rug on the floor was very grubby and the whole impression was that the room was down at heel. We went to reception and complained to the receptionist. He apologised and found us an alternative room, number 4. This was better but well below what we are used to. The bed was comfortable, and the rug was in better shape than in room 7. The matting in the shower looked grubby and well used. The whole feeling in the inn was that it had seen better days. Overall we couldn't get out quickly enough. Breakfast was reasonable. We didn't stay the second night despite having paid. Makes us wary of booking via Booking.com in the future. Just to clarify, we did have our small Chihuahua dog with us and had requested a dog friendly room. We have stayed in many such rooms in past years and have never experienced any evidence of dogs using the rooms. Certainly no smell like we experienced here. Such a shame.
Locatie en onbijt waren excellent. Staf is vriendelijk. Prachtig oud koetshuis. Helaas geen spoken gezien. :-)
Via booking kom je in de main building. Onhandig met ons hondje. Oud gebouw en de vloeren kraken verschrikkelijk. Medelijden met de onderburen. Ook niet alles helemaal schoon bij aankomst.
Quirky, comfortable bed and great shower. Unusual going up a few stairs for the bathroom but no issue. Super dog friendly and great food.
Finding the car park was a bit of a challenge, and the lightbulb overhead in the room wasn’t working but there were side lights so it was fine.
Really comfortable bed and excellent scrambled eggs at breakfast! The staff were all very pleasant and cheerful.
I asked for a quiet room which I got… until a delivery or similar took place at 5.30am outside the hotel, people banging and chatting for a good half an hour, after which it seemed that everyone in the wing was awake and also banging around. Old building = wood floors and heavy doors - not quiet! Would stay again, but probably as far away from the main building as possible.
Location and car park.
The room in the Bailey extension was tiny and stuffy, no chairs except one at the desk, no wardrobe, a broken toilet seat and a ridiculous closer on the bathroom door that was too strong for my 81 year old wife to manage.
Everything great. Could not fault anything. Staff, facilities, breakfast, all wonderful.
nothing.
Convenient
Room was rather tired and featureless.
Very comfortable beds and wonderful location.
Restaurant was very understaffed at breakfast and we had a disappointing experience with lunch, where our food took 40 minutes to arrive despite having pre ordered and booked.
The location and the decor
At breakfast it seemed to be understaffed and one of the male staff members had a very officious manner, to the point that we were reluctant to engage with him or ask for anything.
Where it is. The location was great.
Our first room smelt strongly of dog and some of the decor is a little tired. We were moved to another room and the radiator wouldn’t turn off. The air con unit didn’t function properly and we were above the kitchen so things were noisy in the morning.
Nothing
Staff - attitude, poor service and over charged and rude
Well, we have a problem with our original room - there was a nail sticking up in the floor. Someone tried to fix it but failed so they moved us to a suite at no extra charge and with no hassle. Unfortunately the heating in the suite didn't work, so they put in an oil-filled radiator (only one bit of it worked) and the coffee machine had a leak. They tried, but failed, to fix the heating so again offered to move us to a different room. Yes, it was a pain that there were problems, but the staff responded to them really well. Breakfast was good and both rooms were comfortable. The suite had LOADS of room and even had a bath in the main room. (Also had a shower in the bathroom). Parking was OK.
Could have had better access to maintenance staff.
Lovely location on high street, in historic building.
I was in room 4 above reception it is an old building with wooden floors and sound travels. I found it noisy in the evenng and early morning I needed ear plugs.
