Location in Old Amersham, pretty gardens.
Mattresses need a mattress topper so you can’t feel the springs.
A nice pleasant stay at the property in a good comfortable bed at a location with a great host and also handy for getting into London
Shame the parking up the road was no longer available
Cosy but limited space. Coffee and biscuits available. Fabulous breakfast in another hotel 5 mins away.
We booked a twin room but there was only a double available when we arrived No internet access. Bathroom light didn’t work
Die Zimmer liegen über einen kleinen Pub, aber ruhig. Das Frühstück stand für uns in einem benachbarten Hotel bereit. Es war sehr lecker.
Comfortable bed and clean room. Small but had all the necessities for our stay. Breakfast at the Crown was good and an easy walk. Unusual to stay in what was obviously an historic building with a front door. That was a nice quirk. When the water was hot it was a great shower!
Right on the street so had to keep the blind down all the time as the bed was just by the window. On the first morning the water was cold both in the basin and the shower. We had only used the basin the night before so hadn't realised the water was all cold. This was fixed when we told the landlord. We suspect someone had forgotten to switch on the boiler serving the room. Main problem was getting any programme on the TV. I had asked several times if it could be fixed but it wasn't. In the end after spending some time on the second day I managed to find where some link to iPlayer and other apps were, but itvx just stopped after a while. There needs to be a card explaining how to get onto the apps. Also how to watch terrestrial tv or just saying you can't. I could not make any connection to this. As we spent quite a bit of time in the room it would have been more pleasant and restful to have this explained.
Near by to where I was going.
Plugs sockets between bed and bath room did not work, door opened on to road, could not open windows as noise from road, but then I live in the countryside and security. Tried to the fan but that did not work even when I found a socket that did, it made a noise but blades did not turn. When I arrived they were not expecting me but did find the booking.
Friendly staff
Room smelt of damp .Bed was uncomfortable. Shower was dirty. Shower drain broken. No plug for the sink. Had to turn hot water tap on in the sink for the shower to work. Deco of the room was poor .peeling paint. floor slanting. The price of the room is NOT VALUE FOR MONEY.
The location
One up from basic
Loved the ambience, the look and the location
It was filthy, staff didn’t care. No one around in the morning to tell you where to leave your keys. Door to lovely back courtyard was locked. Didn’t like the fact no blind in bathroom in 1st room we were offered. Sink & shower were dirty and someone left their underwear in a drawer. Staff said no one had been in that room for days. That was apparent. Don’t think the cleaner had either.
Great location and pleasant room …breakfast at the Crown!
Blocked sink in bathroom….large amount of dust and cobwebs in room…no fan or air conditioning..
Was cosy
No hot water, so had a cold shower !
breakfast was good but at another hotel
Friendly staff Comfortable clean bed
Not very clean - cobwebs and dust
Good location for a cheap night. Nice courtyard and beer garden, very friendly staff. Secure cycle storage.
Rooms very basic but adequate for one nights stay.
There was a bed.
Blood stains on the bed. Shower head broken. Sink leaked. Amenities listed were missing. Extremely noisy location. Room was dirty. Shower was dirty.
Great place to stay, really nice rooms. Gentleman that welcomes us very friendly and nice. Located in a small village that is beautiful.
The shower head was clean.
The room door opens on to the street, which wasn't advertised. It's a period style door which meant clear gaps between the door and the frame, and when people walked outside it was as if they were in the room. The window blind couldn't be opened for the same reason - but also it didn't fully cover the window, so people walking past could look in while you're in bed, why they don't just have curtains I don't know - I piled pillows on top of each other to create a barrier to sleep behind. The TV didn't work at all, and when I told staff (the person behind the bar) they said they'd find someone to look into it, but went off and didn't return. I went to find him serving drinks, and the TV was never fixed. Bathroom was clean but generally run down - rusty radiator, hand rail broken, light above the sink didn't work. Shower head was great! But the water for the shower worked on about a 1 minute delay, so every adjustment to temperature took an age to kick in, by which time you'd moved it too far either way. The power of the shower also seemed to come and go randomly. The bed was ok but a bit lumpy and the room was generally too hot.
Very nice pub and location to the old town. Cannot fault the staff at all
Booking.com advertises a fridge in the room and there wasn’t one. The tv remote didn’t work but it was immediately sorted out when I raised it. It can be very noisy in the evening. It didn’t bother me at all but might put some people off
After reading a few reviews I was worried. However after staying I can clear a few things up: -Bed (4 poster) - booked a double: Really comfortable, huge and clean bedding. -Bedroom - large, well equipped, olde worlde vibe. Fellow traveller had a single courtyard room which was also clean and well equipped. Warm but not unbearable and a brand new fan was added for us. Slept really well! -Well stocked bar downstairs. -Friendly welcome on arrival -Parking: yes theres no carpark but we found on street outside the pub easily when we arrived at midday. Or use app Your parking space and book before arrival! -Breakfast: You need to get tokens from the bar as, yes it's at a different pub about a 2 minute walk away. But this was a lovely breakfast included in the room price and great value for money. -Location: Old Amersham is beautiful!!! Great location for a trip to Wembley for a gig. 15-20 minute road walk to the station or a lovely (yet steep) walk through a woodland/off road path. Wouldn't recommend the walk in the heat 🥵 or if mobility is an issue. Book a taxi at the bar! Lovely place and we would happily come back next time we've got a wembley gig booked!!
-Shower: bit of a faff to get a decent stream of water. The pressure seems to be very low. But managed to both get a rinse. -If you are not keen on pub noise remember this is a pub and people will be drinking inside and outside so if you like an early night it might not be the one for you. Saying that the England game finished at 1am which we watched when we got back and everyone plus the noise had gone by half 1 which we didn't mind at all!! After that I absolutely slept like a baby!!

Location
The pub is a little run down
The room was large, well appointed, comfy bed - and a brilliant shower!
Needs more and better placed power outlets
Quaint, beautiful old pub. Lovely staff. Loved the pub atmosphere
Just a little run down and some issues eg the shower was cold one morning
Location, very friendly staff
No hot water in the morning and no one around to help
location was convenient for where I needed to be.
The room was very dirty including the bathroom, in fact I chose not to shower because it was so dirty with black mould around the frame but sheets were clean. When flushing the toilet awful stagnant stench arose from the shower unit. Sliding door to adjoining bathroom off the runner and appeared to be falling apart. Broken electrical socket appeared unsafe, no plug in sink, bedframe dusty as was all pipework around the room with layers of grey fluff balls. Website says food available but on asking the proprietor, she said they don't serve food so had to go out and find food after a long journey. She said there was an Italian restaurant next door but it was further down the road on the opposite side. Had to step over dirty washing to get out in the morning. Proprietor was not available late evening or in the morning to complain.
Friendly staff, amazing outside areas in the sun or shade, dog friendly, lovely room.
It was very very hot and there was no Aircon but great stay other than that.
extremely dirty, run- down, damaged, hot, noisy… And unmade when we arrived! Complete scam for 200 GBP!!
The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful, going out of their way to help solve any problems. The Saracen's Head has no parking facilities of its own, but the staff helpfully rearranged their own car positions to enable us to find a free on-street space for the duration of our stay. Breakfast was provided at the nearby Crown Inn and was excellent if a little expensive.
Only minor niggles - the bathroom of Room 4 lacks a glass tumbler or mug and its door does not close properly, otherwise comfortable and well-appointed. Room 4 faces directly onto a courtyard table where a large party was chatting, drinking and laughing, in the evening, but they left at a reasonable hour and we were not disturbed.
Location was beautiful staff were friendly and helpful
No parking ! No food ! Room was extremely poor condition , door door to entrance was rite in main Rd and fit only for a shed , shower was absolutely awful rusty and falling apart TV kept turning itself on ???? For £100 a night extremely disappointed premier in or holiday express would've been cheaper and 100% more comfortable , shame because it was a beautiful 16th century building .
Staff friendly
They don't reply to messages, rooms disgustingly dirty, moldy ceilings
The room was very comfortable
Breakfast was at the Crown and not at the Saracens. Good breakfast even if one had to walk to another place.
Location only
Cleanliness is outrageously bad, mould Dust like it’s haunted and never ever been cleaned No breakfast as no chef, we were however given a voucher to the nearby beautiful hotel the crown. Noisy from the room next door moving around. We were in the pub part of the hotel up the steepest stairs and had to enter via a back kitchen door way.
Not much really.
Unfortunately location of our room was noisy. Plumbing in en suite terrible so noisy! Bed uncomfortable.
The staff were friendly
Room was tired, paint flaking off ceiling, door didn't fit properly was directly on road so very noisy, single pane windows, shower was broken on arrival did get sorted after complaint, rusty radiator television didn't work properly. Very poor overall, bed was lumpy .
The staff are friendly. Thats it.
I've thought long and hard about what to do because I dont like to leave bad reviews but to be honest, I dont know how you have the front to Charge £89 for a room! I stayed a few weeks ago in room 11, which was fairly decent aside from the shower room/toilet which is falling apart and full of mold and clearly not been cleaned properly in months. But the staff were friendly enough and I thought for the convenience of it for my travel, I'd give it another go. What an error. Room two this time and I was actually speechless. The TV was left on the adult channel when I turned it on, which is gross, but just the start. The mold all over the ceiling, the smell of cigarettes com8ng in even with the windows shut, the shower clearly not even rinsed as there was shower gel all over it, the shower room and toilet clearly not cleaned in months, mold and grime everywhere, the carpet not even hoovered, the coffee machine beyond gross, the kettle full or limescale and one of the shower gels on the bed was half used!!! Would you sleep here? It was gross, I was so disgusted I didn't even shower because it was so gross... and I dont even want to think when the towels and bedding were probably last cleaned. Thank god I bring my own pillow and an empty duvet cover for hot nights, I slept inside the duvet cover with my pillow on top of the bed because I couldn't bear what might be in it.
Lovely location in Old Amersham Friendly staff Some rooms have been updated Some rooms had character features The breakfast over the road at the Crown was ey
Some rooms faced on to the road so there is traffic noise Some rooms were a bit grubby
Ontbijt was in een nabijgelegen ander hotel
Hygiene van douche en toilet waren verschrikkelijk. Over schimmel.
Lovely hotel/pub. Spacious and comfortable room/bed. Great location
Great location and a good pub. Decent selection of beers.
Shower room worked with a macerator and there was an odour issue with the shower drain.
The pub is a lovely place to stay and the staff are really friendly and helpful. They were able to book us in for breakfast in a nearby inn as the kitchen was temporarily out of service, but this worked very well. Be prepared for the rooms upstairs to be a bit wonky - this is a historic building!
Only regret is that we didn't make more use of the bar - we tried lots of the other pubs and this one was the nicest!
The location was great
We stayed in room 11, the bathroom was very rundown, you could not use the shower as you cannot control the water temperature it was very hot.
Definitely enjoyed the stay. Lovely staff working there. The bed was very cosy and had a lot of character. Could make ourselves a nice cup of coffee in the room and bring any drinks from downstairs to the room. Bar area was also great, especially the garden.
Main concern was cleanliness of the shower. Also did hit my head on the ridiculously low door but to be fair there was a warning sign!
Overall good place. Breakfast fine.
Nothing really.
Location
Rooms need a good refurb especially the bathrooms. Quilt not big enough for bed. TV didn't work properly . Had to go to another pub for breakfast as no food served at pub.
Location was great. Staff were friendly. Bed was very comfy with spotless linen. Super thick & soft towels.
Shower needed a good clean. One bedside lamp wasn't working. But l saw the reviews & still came.
There are serious management issues here but Jo who worked in the pub and who welcomed us moved heaven and earth to put things right. We had arranged on the phone to have an iron left in the room. We were attending a funeral and it was essential. When we arrived there was no iron. Jo found us an iron but it didn't work. Having tried everything else Jo rang her daughter and asked her to drive her own iron down to the pub. We were very grateful to both Jo and her daughter.
A laminated card left in the room told us the wrong wifi code and details of breakfast that is no longer served. Jo gave us the correct code but it was very weak. Also the wifi is so insecure that BT blocked our email account. When I turned the shower on there was no water. After a good 2 minutes it ran cold. I ran hot water into the sink in order to wash and the water in the shower ran hot. I asked about this the next day and it was known but nobody told us. Although the rest of the room was clean the shower was not. see photos There were hooks in the room but no hangers.
Staff very helpful, I had selected Twin/Double option. Unfortunately the hotel cannot see your preference. They made sure to accommodate us, even moving us room so we could zip beds together. They were even installing fridges to accommodate guests requiring medication! Very thoughtful. Very handy location next to the main highstreet. We were lucky enough to get a parking space outside on the road too.
Courtyard rooms were easy access as only one or two steps to the door. Location perfect as central for all Amersham restaurants etc Very quaint property. Clean, comfortable beds.
Weren't told in advance that breakfast would be at The Crown and not onsite. Glad it was a dry, sunny morning to walk down the road for breakfast. Fri evening was noisy towards closing time. While we appreciate it's a pub and there will be noise until 11pm. We needed an early night and having people talking loudly, swearing and smoking directly beside the bedroom window of room 7 was too much. Also it's directly next to the main gents toilet with associated noise. If the rooms directly on the courtyard are occupied then customers should be asked to be mindful of not standing directly by the room windows. Parking was hopeless. Nothing on the road beside the pub. Mainly double yellow lines. As we had to eat breakfast at The Crown we asked the night before if we could park in their carpark. They were very helpful and that's what we did.
Shower could do with a deep clean. Lots of mold.
Breakfast was at the nearby Crown hotel (because the Saracen’s kitchen was out of order, they gave us vouchers for breakfast at the Crown) and it was disappointing for a four star hotel. I was glad that I hadn’t booked to stay there. The room at the Saracen’s Head was comfortable enough, the beds were comfortable, the room was warm and the facilities were all there. The landlord and landlady were helpful and friendly.
The cleanliness left something to be desired. The shower tray was grubby and the tile grouting could do with a deep clean. The courtyard, just outside our room, was quite noisy when the pub was open in the evening, but as we were going out it didn’t bother us.
Great location. The pub itself was nice although most cask beers unavailable.
Utterly filthy bathroom. Bed too small and feet over wooden end board. Radiator/ heater made loud noises when on and had to be turned off so from cold. Large gap under door so strong breeze into room on windy night.
Location - great Bed - comfy
TV - remote broken Shower - broken, barely working
staff was nice
room was dirty damp and cold rooms was not sound proof could hear every footstep and every noice needs a new lick or paint and freshen up
Location was the only good thing about it, as we were visiting my aunt for her 90th birthday nearby.
We booked this hotel as Booking.com advertised a car park, as the street parking in Amersham is difficult. We arrived to find that the car park had been sold to developers some 5 or 6 months previously so we had to find parking on the surrounding streets, which was very inconvenient. Breakfast was held at the Crown Inn, some 10 minutes walk away, with a very limited menu for guests from the Saracens Head, compared with that available for their own guests. We were not given a reason why this was so. The room was very tired and not particularly clean. The bathroom needed refitting, the shower sliding door was broken, although the shower itself was good and the water hot. Although our experience was not as bad as some of those on Trip Adviser we would definitely not return. When we were ready to check out we could not find any staff to leave our key with and the bar was locked up, so we left it in the room. We were lucky not to be in the main building by all accounts!
Everything!
Nothing!
Had to go to another pubq
Bit more time & consideration to cleaning.
Location
Shower didn’t work. We were put in the older more uncomfortable rooms, not the newer ones. Staff at The crown where had breakfast were a bit rude and weren’t happy we didn’t know about the rules for ordering breakfast. Clearly communication between the hotels needs to improve.
Location
No breakfast yet included Bedroom was so cold
I booked a room here at the last minute, to attend a wedding locally. Should have done it sooner but wasn't very organised. All I needed was a bed for the night in the right location, and this fit the bill perfectly. The rooms are basically in a pub, so might be noisy if the pub is busy, but I didn't return until the pub was shut so was very quiet. Good breakfast.
Nothing really. If I was staying longer or spending any time in the room, then I may have found it on the small side, but this wasn't an issue for me at all.
Loved the fact the building was so old. The room was spacious with tea, coffee and biscuits . There was clean, crisp bedding and soft towels. The room was warm. The breakfast at a hotel around the corner was nice, as the kitchen was closed here. Good location.
The dust and dirt in the bedroom. Under furniture and in corners. The smell of drains and the sagging matress. The shower was dirty and the sink was blocked.
Friendly staff
No Breakfast even though paid for Shower head broken
The breakfast was fabulous - set me up for the day and cooked to order. The room was absolutely fine. Bed comfy. I think the landlord/lady were setting up a new heating system, so I got a bit overheated until I figured out how to turn it down... first world problems eh? The landlord/lady and fellow customers were all very friendly and the location bang near the centre of the old town was perfect.
I think, if I were being terribly fussy, the bathroom fittings looked like they had seen better days... but don't we all look that way at times. No doubt there are tweaks to be made, but honestly, I would recommend this pub/hotel for a short visit.
Nice breakfast
No tv remote. Buttons didn’t work properly either. Stuck with one channel all night. Dull decor, room looked run down.
Breakfast and chef
Size of bed. Too small Decor a little tired
Breakfast over cooked and burnt No lunch menu No parking or anywhere close to park Room could have been cleaner dust and mould could be seen
Staff super friendly, great room and delicious breakfast.
Bathroom quite tired, door didn’t close sufficiently leaving approx 2 inch gap. Luckily we’re old friends and used to being up close and personal, but definitely would put people off due to lack of privacy.
The chef at breakfast was very friendly and helpful
Unable to use Wifi as information in room did not match situation. Struggled to find any parking.
Courtesy of staff was very good, breakfast was very good athough a better choice of cereals would have been nicer.
Room was a bit "tired". Shower leaked onto floor. Toilet flush kept sticking. Mould around shower and plaster had fallen from ceiling. Very dusty and bitty around tops of skirting board. The Room was very noisy as it opened straight onto the stree This was Room no 12.
It’s a good location, bar is great fun with helpful team.
Our room was freezing and breakfast was cancelled with no discount offered and with no notice. The breakfast had always been fantastic and something we look forward to.
We did not stay. After seeing the room, we decided it was not what was advertised and left.
Nothing at all
A comfortable bed
No breakfast or dinner available as advertised. The room i booked had no hot water so i was moved to another room at additional cost. The cleaners clearly smoke in the room as it smelled of tobacco and tobacco was left on the side next to the bed.
Breakfast was fantastic.
The stairs were so steep it felt unsafe to climb them we were going to a wedding so getting dreesed up and it would have been impossible choking up and down them. the room had very low doorways which is not comfortable for someone who is tall. we had to find another hotel. We have asked for a refund but the hotel has refused booking.com and ignored all communication with them
great breakfast, lovely staff
Staff very friendly. the morning chef was very friendly and helpful.
The room was very poor. We had to ask smokers to move from the door to or room each night. The shower only worked if you turned the basin sink tap on first. Mold around shower and the noise from the pub and staff at night was terrible. The photos showing the room when I booked don’t reflect the reality of what we got. I travel every week with my business and have stayed in many hotels, this room ranked as one of the worst. Sorry
Great little pub in a prime location if you are visiting Amersham old town. Staff were very friendly and our stay was excellent
Only criticism would be noise levels from adjacent rooms/outside courtyard . During our stay there was a 40th birthday group staying at the same time who congregated in the courtyard outside the room and were talking loudly till the early hours. Probably a one off but did impact sleep a little
A pretty stable conversion with uninsulated rural walls and roof. Ground floor, next to bar courtyard. Very nice breakfast cook, and good 'full English' set breakfast. Centre of town.
It was UNHEATED except for 2 hours an evening. Owner promised heating would be turned on , NOT DONE. No spare blankets. En suite ICY. Never been so bitterly cold and utterly miserable.
Breakfast was self serve but full English cooked to order.
Poor cleaning. Room & furniture dated. Bathroom inadequate, shower not clean nor on the wall. No sink plug & mouldy bathroom without a proper door. Noisy in room as above the bar. No parking.
Good location. Breakfast was self serve.
Cleanliness of and the bathroom facilities were poor.
Great location. Staff are amazing. Breakfast was lovely and so was the chef. Great little pub with great atmosphere. We will be back!
Location and breakfast
The cleanliness is disgraceful, mouldy in room, windows and the bathroom is disgusting. Needs a complete renovation. Mould everywhere The bed cover was thin and barely enough to cover two people. No parking Noisy on the road, no double glazing or door anti draft. No heating on , asked at the bar and it eventually came on, nothing in the morning so very cold and no extra blankets For the cost and where it is the rooms should be clean and fresh.
Friendly staff and locals nice room, good beer and tasty breakfast.
Nothing
The breakfast was excellent and the lady who made it and served it was a credit to the pub
Lovely English breakfast, very kind and welcoming staff, super clean
Had to get used to the bedroom being on the street, but warmed to the charm
