Breakfast was tasty
Beach was dirty full of sea weed
Overall staff were professional and helpful. They had initially placed me on the fourth floor, as there are no elevators in the hotel, I requested for a lower level room. They showed me a room on the second floor which I accepted. The rooms on the surface appeared clean. The TV in the room were old, limited channels with poor picture quality, it was a bit like going back in time. The beddings especially the bed cover was rough. On my last and check out day, I found cockroach in the room, I didnt expect this in a 4 star property and when I informed front desk upon check out, she only oh, sorry about that and that she would inform house keeping. I was glad that was my check out day as I detest cockroaches and would not have been able to sleep in that room. To cap it all, on same check out day, I noticed three clustered rashes on my arm that resemble bed bug bites. I have informed the hotel by email as I am not sure if they are bed bug bites or not, but I am taking action to ensure my home does not become infested. This has been overall a horrific experience and has left a bad taste; I have since read some reviews of this hotel and saw that someone had also complained about bedbugs with photos - so now, I am really worried that I have carried bugs home. Restaurant The restaurant food was just okay, I only eat fish anyway, though the breakfast i tried was not great and I didnt try it again. The restaurant however had a very limited menu and was expensive. I only ate there mostly dinner because I would have had to take a taxi elsewhere given the location of the hotel. Pool/bar/beach I visited in August, there was smelly seaweed on the beach so sadly could not enjoy the beach. I had to take transport to Carlise Bay/Savvy beach. The pool chairs were always occupied. Some of the umbrellas had bird poop on them and there was also bird poop around some parts of the pool seating area. It was unsightly. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
I booked this resort for my wedding anniversary. We’ve stayed at a few resorts together, and I have to admit, this one had the best view at an affordable price. The resort was clean, well-kept, and offered nice amenities, including a gym. I have no complaints about the staff—they were genuinely so kind, welcoming, and willing to answer any questions we had. Overall, we had a wonderful experience!
Despite the lovely staff I can’t recommend this hotel. Rooms — we stayed in the honeymoon suite as it has a bigger porch etc. The room decor is one very large painting of a woman’s naked breasts close up. It’s aggressively sexual and definitely not romantic, if that was the intent. It was weird to see it every day — nipples and all. The bedding is rough and scratchy, clearly poor quality. If you have sensitive skin, it will not like the low count sheets and blanket. That said housekeeping was great. The room was always clean and the AC worked well. The food was terrible. The hotel restaurant is a total rip off. Fruit was always turning (soft grapes, flavorless watermelon, mushy strawberries). Cereal was stale. Meat was overcooked and the beef was seasoned poorly. French toast has way too much cinnamon. Curry had no flavor. Kids menu was made of hot dog or hamburger so once the kids at one day, they had no other choices. Some dishes were just poorly put together with weird flavors like the pasta mash-up. It’s clear they are using very poor quality ingredients and products but they’re charging really high prices. It felt like were taken advantage of and we stopped eating at the restaurant. Food across the island is really good elsewhere! Recommend not eating at the restaurant — even for breakfast. Also the service is sooooooo slow that we almost missed our boat charter cause they couldn’t make eggs at normal speed. They need a new chef right away. The ocean was filled with stinky seaweed. Not the hotel’s fault but that meant everyone was by the pool and it, while beautiful, is small. So chairs went fast. The music was also loud. The bar always had a long wait despite true bartenders being amazing!!! They need to staff them with more support. We ended up going to local beaches where there was no seaweed and fantasia food options at normal uninflated prices. It’s shame because the guest services are amazing! Really lovely front desk, drivers, gift shop, spa and waitresses! But the rest is really hard to swallow at this price point.
This is an average hotel not worthy of four stars , it should be adults only there is one very small pool that is shaded by the hotel that children can use , the biggest pool is for adults only but is empty most of the time . There is a third pool that was not initially part of the hotel and operates separately but they lead you to think it’s part of the hotel , they charge for sunbeds so don’t get caught out like we did, the restaurant there charged £81.00 for three burgers and chips , you are better off eating out. We are regulars to the island the only thing going for this hotel is its location. We will go back to the crane next time where children are welcome
We had a really enjoyable stay at Bougainvillea Barbados overall. The resort has a lovely relaxed feel, the beach is beautiful and there are some genuinely fantastic members of staff. There are, however, a few areas where I think improvements could make the experience even better. Arrival We received a pleasant welcome with drinks on arrival. A special mention to Rashad, the porter, who was extremely helpful, polite and welcoming. Our room The room was spacious and airy, with a decent-sized bed and bathroom. The kitchenette was clean and had enough cutlery and utensils for our needs. We also had everything we needed — plenty of toilet roll, washing-up liquid, towels, an iron and a safe, all of which were in good condition and worked well. The air conditioning was also very good. The TV had lots of channels, although the picture quality wasn’t particularly good and there were quite a few very old shows being shown. Outdoor shower This is one area I think could definitely be improved. There was only one outdoor shower and the water pressure wasn’t great. With guests coming off the beach covered in sand, I think having two showers would make much more sense. There were times when people were waiting to use it, which was a little off-putting. Kalabash Restaurant A big shout-out to Juliette, Kadijah, Nicole and Zakiyah they were all fantastic and provided great service. The downside was the long wait for food and, at times, the wait for the bill, which could be frustrating. Prices were reasonable overall. One thing I would strongly recommend is putting up a clear sign saying “Please do not feed the cats.” We saw people feeding the cats around the restaurant, which I didn’t feel was particularly hygienic. There may also be guests with cat allergies, and these are wild cats, so I think this should be addressed. Pool & Pool Bar The pool is a decent size, although I think it could become quite hectic during peak periods, particularly with lots of children, floats and water toys. The pool bar could also benefit from additional staff when busy. Having just one bartender makes it difficult for the service to be quick. Big up to Hosea, though great service! Beach The beach was absolutely beautiful and definitely one of the highlights of the holiday. We did have a few days where there was quite a lot of smelly seaweed, but this appeared to be due to the strong winds and rough waves, so obviously not something the hotel can control. The towel station staff were lovely and a particular highlight was being handed cold flannels such a simple thing but incredibly soothing in the heat! Getting around Taxis were fairly easy to get, although we later discovered the Ubers were a much cheaper way of getting around. We did have two occasions where we were quoted one price for a taxi but charged slightly more at the end. My advice would be to confirm the exact price before setting off. We also went to Sheraton Mall for food. Massy supermarket was quite pricey, and I did wish there was a larger, more affordable supermarket option nearby. Be prepared for “island time” when eating out generally! Service was quite slow in most of the food places we visited, so don’t expect everything to be quick. Overall We had a lovely stay at Bougainvillea Barbados. The beautiful beach, spacious rooms, relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff were the biggest positives for us. There are definitely some relatively simple things that could improve the experience particularly the outdoor shower situation, staffing at the pool bar, restaurant waiting times and the issue of guests feeding cats around the restaurant. Would we recommend it? Yes. We enjoyed our stay and would consider returning, while hoping some of these small issues are addressed.
Truly enjoyed my 2-night stay at the Bougainvillea Barbados. It was my first stop for a 7-night trip and happy I chose here for a tranquil, relaxing and quiet stay before all the activities of Crop Over. The check-in was simple and I was given a complimentary rum punch. Then walked to my room that was on the ground floor by the pool. It was nice and air conditioned, along with a fan. Very spacious with a kitchenette - sink, fridge, microwave and glass cook top. The Calabash is the on-site restaurant where all meals are served. It's a short walk to Deia Beach Club for a more upbeat atmosphere and beachfront bar and restaurant. I requested a driver from the front desk to get to my rum tour and pick up my costume for Kadooment Day. They prefer payment in cash - USD or Barbados dollars. ATMs give Barbados dollars plus the exchange & ATM fee so keep that in mind. Only larger establishments take cards. CashApp or similar apps won’t work however I paid a local bookstore using PayPal. Everyone was accommodating and nice. I felt completely safe as a solo traveler. I met other Americans and British travelers. Families, couples and singles like me. The city bus stop isn’t far either to explore on a budget. Highly recommend it!
We stayed at the Bougainvillea resort in a very well appointed junior suite with a full kitchen. It was our second week on the island and we had a car hire for the duration. July/August is their low season, so many bars and restaurants only open at the weekend, but most close by are closed. Barbados isn’t cheap and everyday items are double that of the UK, so preparing daytime meals were a must for us to allow eating out at night. The Bougainvillea is on a beautiful white sand beach, but not on the Caribbean, so the sea can be quite rough at times, if it’s windy and it can be at this time of year. The hotel is very friendly and quite, but sandwiched between noisy Sandals and Diea Beach Club next door which plays extremely loud music from 11am until midnight every day, which does spoil the tranquility we were seeking, but Barbados is a party island and the smell of marijuana is prevalent everywhere and I hate the smell. If I was younger many of these things wouldn’t bother me, but as I grow older give the Greek Islands any day.
We recently stayed at Bougainvillea Barbados and overall had a lovely experience. The hotel itself is beautiful, peaceful and has a really tranquil atmosphere, making it the perfect place to relax. The food was good quality and tasted great, although after a while it did become a little repetitive. My favourites were definitely the cassava mash and the fish, which were consistently delicious. There was even a fire show on Fridays. However I would definitely try eating out as it’s close to oistins (about a 5 min drive) with many places to eat. The staff really made our stay special. Every member of the restaurant team was welcoming and friendly, but Anneka deserves a special mention. She was incredibly warm, always greeted us with a smile, and even remembered my morning hot drink, which was such a thoughtful touch. Juliette was also lovely and always made us feel welcome. The pool area is on the smaller side, but because it’s open from 7am until 10pm, everyone had plenty of opportunity to enjoy it throughout the day. The beach area was also lovely, and the team handing out towels were fantastic—they would even help you find a good spot and set up an umbrella for you. We did have one issue during our stay. We had booked a meal plan, but were mistakenly being charged individually for meals. I spoke with one of the front desk supervisors (I unfortunately can’t remember her name, but she had neat straight-back braids), and she resolved the issue quickly and professionally. I sometimes feel uncomfortable questioning things like this, but she immediately put me at ease and handled everything without making me feel awkward. Overall, we had a wonderful stay. The hotel is beautifully maintained, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is incredibly relaxing. I would happily stay here again. The only thing I would do differently is request a ground-floor room next time, as they seemed to have the best locations and direct access to the gardens and pool areas. Thank you to the Bougainvillea team for making our stay so enjoyable!
Beautiful hotel in a lovely location by the beach. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Friendly staff, especially Aaron on the pool bar and Gayle in the restaurant.
la ubicación frente al mar, la amabilidad de todos los empleados. la calidad de todas las instalaciones
The hotel was very nice. We had a suite with a kitchen which was great because I have a ton of food allergies and the resturants onsite did not have much to choose from. We ate at both (there are 2). Coffee wasnt that great so I stuck to having tea. We went to Massey's grocery store and stocked up on snacks, water and breakfast foods. The prices are average prices you would find in any grocerty store. The resturant is overpriced and the food is mid. My husband ended up with a stomach issue after having a hamburger for lunch. So we just decided not to eat onsite after that experience. The hotel staff were nice, some not so much, very moody. There really isnt much to do at the hotel. They did keep the rooms and grounds very clean and the groundskeeper did a steller job with taking care of the property. Seemed like by 8:00 p.m. they would have a singer and music but it wasnt very livley at all. Kind of dull and boring. They have cab service whrere the hotel will set it up for you. $15 literally any where you go. I was highly dissapointed in the beach. The water was brown and full of seaweed. We have done pretty much all the islands and I was really bored. So we went to Savvy on the Bay. Much more livelier and $20USD for an umbrella and 2 chairs. and tons of food trucks. The water was amazing and excatly what I expected of an Island. They do however start taking the umbrella's down at 5:30 p.m. which was a surprise to us. That was probably the best part of the whole trip. We took the cab there and they said you dont have to pay now but you can pay when we pick you up. Which turned out to be a $70 cab ride. Ostins Fish Friday was cool. Another $15USD there and $15USD back. The food line to Pat's was over a 2 hour wait so we decided to try another stall, there are plenty. They had live entertainment. A Micheal Jackson and Bobby Brown impersonator. And once they are finished on stage they walk around with a bucket for donations. There is really no place to sit because it gets so croweded. Went to St. Lawrence Gap. Not sure if it was dead because it was a Sunday, but it was nothing like what I expected it to be. I was kind of dissapointed. Also, the main resturant does not start serving until 7:00 a.m. as an early riser, it would have been nice to at least get a cup of coffee/tea and sit out on the beach to watch the sunrise. You do not need to rush to grab a lounger at the beach of pool, because it did not seem to crowd like most resorts do so that was a plus. Also went to Chevettes. Another 1 wait for an order and it was mid. Definitley a trip if you want to relax, but other than that not much else to do.
I chose Bougainvillea because of the reviews. I read through a bunch of them. It mainly ready the bad reviews first just to get a feel. And I KNOW, you can’t please everyone not matter what you do for them. But being a Hotel manager myself for a little over 20 years. I know how to decipher between the reviews. With that being said I thought this hotel was the best option for my family and I. It had all the amenities we needed from, onsite guests laundry, a kids game room, a swim up bar, and the kitchenette! This hotel is minutes from a grocery store which was perfect! Upon arrival, the views, and lobby were perfect. They welcomed us with drinks and a warm smile! All started off perfect. Then it all went SOUTH FAST! After the first night out AC went out. Not an issue, I figured they’d fix it fast. But it ended up being a big job so they offered us a new room. Thankfully we didn’t move into that room completely because my daughter woke me up around 3AM stating there were BUGS in the bed her and her sister were sleeping in. Once I hear that, I jumped up and checked just to make sure it wasn’t bed bugs. And YUP, exactly them. I took videos and pictures for evidence. We got up and went back to our old room. We stayed up because that room was hot. We had the ceiling fans going and the balcony door open. Thanks for the ocean it gave us a good breeze. I reached out to Expedia to see if we can move or get a refund. They submitted the request but the manager wasn’t in. When the morning time came, I reached out to the manager to inform them that we wanted to check out because of this. Ms. Maggie or Margie (can’t remember the name) informed me. And I quote, “WE DONT have bed bugs. You’re in the Caribbean it’s could be any kind of bugs!” Mind you I’m a hotel manager myself and I know what they look like. I even Googled it again just to be sure. They were bed bugs!! So I tried to get them to refund me so we my and my kids could leave. This trip was a trip but my oldest high school graduation and my youngest daughter’s birthday! So I wanted it to be special and it wasn’t due to them denying the refund. So we had no choice but to stay. The AC couldn’t be fixed so they gave us a 3rd room! Before we moved, I did a 3 point check of the room. Lifted the sheets checked the corners of the mattress and all. Everything was good. So we moved. After that they offered us lunch/dinner… Not the best but we had not choice since I spent thousands on this trip. Had to make the best. While in the new room. The door lock had to be reset 3 times! Once the Housekeeper let us in. The other times we had to walk to the front desk to get up. And our room was WAY in the back corner of the resort… Ordered lunch from the restaurant and my wings weren’t cooked the way I requested. The flying fish sandwich was dry, long waits for the meal when the restaurant only had two tables seated… must’ve been staff doing more talking then working… asked to have my wings removed from bill and they didn’t! Overall, only plus were some of the staff members, the steak frites, and the amenities! I hate that I had to write this review, but I wouldn’t go back nor would I suggest this place… The owners need to train management better or something. To not offer better service recovery or a refund is crazy to me. But maybe it’s their way in Barbados. But, beautiful island. I would go back just not to Bougainville!
I am at the hotel right now, since the first day I callled the reception and went in person to request that somebody to look into the problem with the internet in the bedroom. Yes they will look into it nothing is done . Maybe they know that this specific room doesn’t have any connection in the bedroom. Very disappointed .
A lively hotel with a “party” atmosphere. Food was below average. The property is lovely when you walk in - well decorated and maintained - but the bedrooms were a different story. Very old and tired and clearly hadn’t been upgraded for years. No elevator. Service at reception was great but everywhere else was poor. Overpriced for what it was
No alavator enjoy climbing 3-4 floors 10 times a day Room feels like you sleep out side in a tent you can hear all the outside noise Wich is loud at night No morning buffet eaven though fallsly advertise then add the mosquitos. Bar staff look like kids that mixing you 7 eleven slushi. Good luck won't recommend
The grounds are absolutely spectacular. The gardens are beautiful, the rooms are spacious. We had dinner at the restaurant a number of times and the food was delicious for lunch and dinner. They had entertainment every night mostly singers and a wonderful fire show on Friday's. Everyone was incredibly talented and it was such a nice touch to hear music while we were enjoying our dinner. When we arrived we walked through the beach and onto the street to the market (Dover Market) you'll find everything you need there (milk, coffee, sandwiches, fruits, personal care etc) The staff was always incredibly friendly we did not rent a car and had the staff call us taxi's to get to dinner throughout the island. St Lawrence Gap is a short distance and round trips were about $30 USD. For Lunch we would go to Carolina's Barbados which is truly spectacular the food is so tasty and fresh absolutely loved every time we got to pop in there. We also used the Spa onsite. I recommend booking early because we only managed to snap spots due to cancelations. Our massages were very relaxing. I received a mini facial which was quite refreshing and my mom opted for a pedicure that was better than the ones we get back home! Loved it truly. My only complaint which in no way or form is the fault of the property is that the beach is ok. It was very rough during our time and we could only enter for a short while on the Sandals side. It's not the Caribbean water I have grown accustomed to. We ended up doing Savvy on the Bay a couple of times using their shuttle services where they do pick up drop off and provide beach chairs and while the water is crystal clear there it's just not as relaxing as Bougainvillea since it's a beach club and there's just more people and a different ambiance. Bougainvillea is truly just such a relaxing place filled with beauty and warm staff that are so helpful. Truly think this is one of the nicest properties on the whole island I don't think you can beat it.
My hubby and I had an amazing trip to Barbados! Bougainvillea resort was incredible. All the staff were super friendly and attentive! Front desk was always available to help with concierge services, delivering groceries to our room. We ordered Massy store. Both restaurants Calabash and Deia - had great food and good breakfast at Calabash. The bartenders at the swim up pool bar were amazing, super freindly - Aaron, Vincent and Joshua. Try the "Aaronator" rum drink Aaron makes personally! We had a fantastic taxi car driver, Ryan Griffith, who contracts with the hotel - but has his own private business. He went out of way to take us when and where ever we wanted to go, plus airport service for $60 BBD ($30 US)/pp. Ryan's a native to the island - so knew all the history and great places to visit! Rooms were clean and well stocked. We had a Junior suite with a kitchen, stove, microwave and large fridge. Housekeeping was always available with clean towels oe extras. We did tip about $10 BBD/$5 US each time as staff rotated each day. The beach was beautiful - white sands and great "watersport" staff - who brought cool towels or additional umbrellas/towels whenever we asked! The Bajans in general are probably the most friendly people I've ever met - and I've traveled the world. We will definitely go back to Barbados! Thank -you to Bougainevillea resort for a fantastic week!
As always, Bougainvillea exceeds expectations and we don't want to leave! The room is spotless and the ladies do a great job with housekeeping. All staff were helpful and we enjoyed the food. This is a very special hotel with a relaxed vibe and stunning beach. We ate at Deia on our final night and enjoyed the catch of the day ( amberjack). Shout out to Basil for the beautiful plant life and to Vivian for hard work at the bar, including keeping everything sparkling. We love the island and the people and we will be back!!
DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! place is old. Half of the things here do not work. Restaurant on site is horrible. And the restaurant next door, which belongs to the owners Son, is horribly worse. They even ran out of cheeseburgers. The staff are unfriendly and hardly ever smile. If you are looking for a peaceful relaxing place , this is not it. The thumping music goes on till quite late. And the pool bar will stay open until ….Ive stayed at other places on this island which I enjoyed very much. Don’t waste your RCI POINTS HERE. .
We stayed for 14 days over half term, having booked direct. Room was ok, second bed was just a pullout sofa bed which creaked & groaned so much my daughter ended up sharing with me. Fortunately the other bed was massive! The first few days we were woken at 0700 by next door’s microwave going ‘ping ping ping’ but fortunately they then left. Kitchen was useful; well, we used the fridge to store drinks, im not cooking etc on holiday! Rooms were cleaned almost every day & cleaning staff were polite & friendly, as were reception staff. Air con was efficient, Balcony had insufficient chairs for number of guests. Pools are small and half are adult only so it’s quite limited for children. Pool bar is lovely but a real mix of staff… Joshua was super friendly, & Nathan was great… but Vivian, wow, what a misery. He should NOT be in a customer facing role. Calabash on site restaurant was a disappointment; very expensive and very limited choice. Deia beach next door was reasonably priced but the chicken burger was horrible. Weather was lovely; 30° the whole time. Some seaweed on the beach but not too bad. I do recommend a high-DEET anti mosquito spray. Cool Runnings catamaran trip was awesome, and flower forest was amazing as was the monkey reserve!! Highly recommend for food: Savvy Champers Harlequin Mimosa New China Garden Would I go back? No. I feel I’ve seen Barbados now & there a whole world to visit.
Beautiful beachfront location. We were here the week of Mother's Day. Roslyn greeted us with a smile and checked us in and provided us with information and cash exchange during the week and was always pleasant. They tagged and secured our luggage while we ate at Calabash for lunch while waiting for our rooms. We were told that we would get an email when are rooms were ready but that did not happen. We had to keep going to the front desk to check. We stayed in a Jr. Suite on the 3rd floor with great views of the pool and beach areas. Our room was clean and well maintained by housekeeping during our stay. On Mother's Day, Calabash had a fixed buffet menu that we were not interested in, so we had lunch next door at Deia beach club and then dinner at a restaurant in the Gap. Zawadi at the front desk arranged for a taxi to take us to several places for a day trip. She was always pleasant and friendly during several interactions. The weekend was busy around the pools with every lounge chair taken and the pool bar was full of the same people all week. There was much better lounge chair availability after the weekend, but this was not a peak week. I would imagine the chair situation would be stressful during busier times but there is always a spot on the beach to setup. Pool bar service by Jose and Vivian was excellent. The only issue was that they constantly ran out of wines and cranberry juice and there were no nonalcoholic offerings other than mixer/juices. We ordered lunch from Calabash directly from the pool bar and it was delivered to our table takeout style. My wife enjoyed the hot/cold rock massage at Karma spa and rated as one of the best ever. A friend also enjoyed her regular massage although the spa is a very small area. The gym was well setup and clean. There are a few cats that roam the property and, in the restaurant. They do walk on the lounge chairs and towels but remarkably stay off of the tables. Pros: Close to airport Beachfront with water sports Umbrellas and chairs can be set up anywhere on the beach Restaurant on site Clean and well maintained Friendly service Nightly poolside entertainment No Kids at Adult Pool enforced Pool was clean and well maintained Cons: Water is rough. Need to go next door to Sandals to go in the water near the breakers. Couldn't use any watersports options due to red flag all week Constant, all day and night smell of food cooking whether on the beach or in the pool due to restaurant location. Limited menu at Calabash and other close by (walkable) restaurants are very limited and hours vary. No elevators if you have mobility issues
Beautiful paradise beach location. Friendly and helpful staff. Spotless and clean. Loved the pool bar. Would definitely return. Thank you.
This hotel is great. The gardens with waterfalls are beautiful, our junior suite room was large, comfortable and quiet. The people working in the hotel were friendly and helpful. Great location (we used local buses to get around) and stunning beach. We have marked the Bougainvillea down by one point owing to a grumpy (sometimes aggressive) member of the beach/waterports team. There was no response to our 'good morning's, hello's and thank you's'. We also witnessed a heated exchange with a man who had put his beach brolly up himself (it was 30+ degrees and no help could be found for a while) and an aggressive argument with a woman (on her own) who had moved her sunbed when there was the tip of a brolly resting on it so it ended up in the sand. Apart from that, 10/10!
A beautiful, well kept hotel. Peaceful, relaxed and on a stunning beach. Rooms were spacious and cleaned thoroughly daily. The sea here is wavy which we loved but you can travel to the beaches on the west of the island if you want to experience the calmer water as well. We hired a car to explore the island which I would highly recommend. The hotel provided a great base for us and good flexibility. There was just the right amount of entertainment and it was tasteful, we loved our stay here.
Not the friendliest staff. No coffeemakers or water bottles in the room. Not many places to go within walking distance. Seating by the pool was “claimed” by 6 am. Nice beach and pool.
Fabulous resort with excellent customer service. Junior suites fully kitted out for self catering. Lovely and clean. Ground floor requested and provided as there is no lift. No noise from above or neighbours. Separate pool for children & adults. Happy hour at pool bar 3:30-4:30 with limited drinks available. Right on the beach. Calabash restaurant good with theme nights during season. Not the cheapest but certainly one of the best in this price range. Staff happy to help with bookings & private driver.
Spent 10 days and thoroughly enjoyed this very relaxed hotel and its stunning beach location. The suites were large and immaculate with a comfortable sitting area, well furnished balcony and a great little kitchen area. We used the restaurant on site a few times and whilst the food was good, I would prefer to see more choice. The hotel was a good base to explore the island.
Bougainvillea has some standout positives but also a few areas that could use improvement, hence my 4 star review. The tropical grounds are absolutely beautiful — the gardens and pool area are very well maintained, and the beach is stunning with plenty of sunbeds available. It really does look as beautiful as the photos. The view from our balcony of the beach was spectacular too. Our room was spacious and kept spotlessly clean. We liked the range of complimentary water sports on offer and the gym was impressive as it had had plenty of equipment. The pool bar served a good selection of cocktails at reasonable prices, with a fab happy hour. On the downside, the service was somewhat inconsistent. While the bar, cleaning and security staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming, the restaurant staff were a bit hit and miss. Unfortunately, we encountered a bartender and a waitress who came across as quite rude. Another minor issue was the limited number of sunbeds around the pool area — if you want a good spot, you’ll need to get up early to secure one.
A stellar experience from start to finish. The hotel is beautiful, well-maintained, and looks exactly like the photos. From the great views to the friendly staff, every detail was perfect. The location is safe and ideally situated near beaches and restaurants. We’ll definitely be back!
We were in Barbados to celebrate our honeymoon and we absolutely enjoyed our stay here. The staff went above and beyond, pool bar was the place to be with daily happy hours and right on the beach. Rooms were spacious, clean and well facilitated. The bistro onsite serves lovely food but you can easily get to other places, like the gap, if you wanted somewhere else. Would definitely come back here.
A great beach and a nice clean hotel, no rush for the sunbeds which was very nice.. The location is quiet but half way between Oistins and St Lawrence Gap so there is a lot in the surrounding area. The restaurants were very good and the bar is good too.
The booking staff and front desk were a disgrace. Could not have been less helpful. The rooms were ok, but nothing exceptional. The location is quiet which can be good but it means taxis to everywhere.
Excellent stay with the family. Spacious rooms, excellent service, great beach and close to major activities!. Would definately visit again!
What a fantastic experience we had staying at Bougainvillea Barbados, the staff are fantastic from the front desk, bar staff, cleaners etc etc including the Calabash restaurant next door, we had an amazing time and this holiday experience will never be forgotten. The hotel itself, the grounds are amazing with plentiful colours surrounding the walkways around the hotel. The front desk was always happy and talkative including the bell boys who looked after your luggage . There's only one downside of this hotel, there's no lift to the higher rooms but the porters are amazing and you don't have to lift a finger, so no problem regarding getting your luggage up and down stairs. This was an unforgettable hotel and the hotel made it even better, thanks Bougainvillea for looking after us 5*****+ service and experience.
For what you pay for this, it’s not worth it as this hotel is not upscale at all. The beach access saved everything about it. The pool bar was lovely and the beach access was great but the restaurant and comfortability of the rooms were not worth the money. It did not feel luxurious at all for something that cost luxury pricing.
This was our first time to the Barbados and our travel agent recommended Bougainvillea through AC Vacations. What a great resort it turned out to be! Very clean rooms, the grounds were lovely, the service was superb on all levels. Very friendly and professional staff and always willing to accommodate our requests. The activities concierge coordinated a private driver / taxi for our outings as well as reserved our tours and dinner. They were all so very helpful and always with a smile. The beach and pool had plenty of space, chairs and towels, we were never disappointed. Calabash restaurant had plenty of options; the food and service was very good. The evening entertainment was enjoyable. The location was walking distance to the St Lawrence Gap where we could take in some night life and souvenir shopping. Overall great experience!
The hotel is very attractive to look at, and the staff are amazing, helpful and full of smiles. The position on the beach is great, but it is on the Atlantic coast, and therefore the waves are large, not a beach for small children to paddle and play. When we were there in march it would not have been be easy to get past the large waves to swim in calmer water. The poolside and loungers are great, but people do tend to reserve them early ! the Calabash restaurant has great food, and the Deia beach bar to the side of the hotel is amazing as well. I would not hesitate to stay again.
I could not fault it at all
Place is awful. Not responsive to request for early check in. Pool bar staff no personality. Never come here again.
Fabulous time at this hotel, enjoyed every moment. People’s ‘You Tube’ videos don’t do it justice! Everyone was very helpful and friendly from the cleaning staff to the reception team. Jose is an asset to the hotel with his happy banter! Thank you for a great holiday, we will most definitely return 10:10 😊
We had the most amazing holiday at the Bougainvillea, we are already looking at when we can come back! The hotel and our room were amazing, beautiful views, well maintained and very clean, perfect for our family of 4 (2 adults 2 girls age 9 and 7). The hotel is on the beach which was perfect for us, and the watersports available at the hotel made our kids very happy! The watersports team were so helpful too. All of the staff at the hotel were so lovely, we miss them already, especially Lisbeth and everyone in Calabash 🩷. We also enjoyed Deia Beach club (and had far too many cocktails there 😆) what a beautiful place. The evening entertainment was amazing too, especially Rum Fire on Friday which was spectacular. Our kids were besotted with the cat family you have there and we were so happy to see they looked so well cared for. I can’t say enough nice things about this place - we will definitely be returning ☺️
The staff was amazing! Incredibly friendly, sincere and helpful. The rooms, public spaces and pool area was very well maintained, clean and embracing. The staff thoroughly cleaned the pools, decking and raked the beach area every morning so when we started our day it was like a whole new place. Getting recommendations and assistance with places to visit was wonderful.
Perfect 🏝🏖say no more😍 , close to the airport, quiet surrounding, excellent room, great value 👍
Fabulous location-right on the beach, gorgeous views from our room. Ideal hotel if you’re looking to eat out and self cater breakfast (kitchen area had everything we needed) although the food at the hotel bistro is very good. Staff are really helpful and friendly, housekeeping services excellent, clean towels every day. We would definitely return.
My daughter recommended bougainvillea resort and we decided to head there this weekend. The property is well maintained and has all the amenities of a 5 star resort. Calabash restaurant was amazing. The staff was tops and the food outstanding. Hats off to our Latin hostess. The service at the pool bar was great and we made lots of new friends. Vivian was outstanding and the team really made us feel special. We spent some time next door at Deia beach bar where the food and vibes were amazing. Planning my next visit soon.
This was our second stay at Bougainvillea. The hotel is stunning and opens up onto a glorious beach. Our room was spacious, modern, immaculately clean with a stunning view from the balcony. All the staff were polite, friendly and helpful. Overall this is a beautiful and relaxing hotel and we are looking forward to returning in 2027.
We first stayed at the Bougainvillea last February and loved it that much that returned this year. Ideally located right on the beach with plenty of sunbeds and parasols. The rooms are a good size with a small kitchen area which was adequate for our needs and equipped with everything to make your stay a pleasure. Beds are huge and comfortable and all is spotlessly clean. The on site restaurant is very nice as is the pool bar. What makes it such a wonderful experience is the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. Every single one made us feel so welcome. The lads on the beach were brilliant as were the restaurant staff. I had my birthday here and was such a great experience. David and Cody maintained the pool so well and the gardeners also do a fantastic job. We also enjoyed a lovely chat with Miranda, Margerita and Margaret who were very helpful. The ladies who cleaned our room were lovely. Friendly, chatty yet very proficient. We wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the Bougainvillea.
The room, the pool & beach & the relaxing vibe. Staff were excellent
It’s a bit way out to get to any bars or restaurants on foot- St.Lawrence Gap, £10 e/w, for amenities. Walk at your peril the roads & drivers are haphazard & it takes a good half hour if you’re relatively fit!
Sehr sauber , Lage direkt am herrlichen Strand
Frühstück mit 41 $ pro Person ist viel zu teuer Kein Aufzug
This hotel was fabulous..the food was delicious, the room was lovely ,the beach is beautiful and the staff so helpful and friendly...they looked after Toby under the Christmas tree.....if you go as a couple ,get to breakfast early to get a table on the terrase bit ....josh the bartender was very accommodating . Will we return ...100% yes One more thing, the reception can arrange katermeran trips ,no extra charge and pick up outside ...use Tiami tours they are the best ..we went on 4 different trips
I stayed at Bougainvillea Barbados in a two-bedroom villa with friends, and it was hands down one of the best beach vacations I’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, the resort felt welcoming, relaxed, and effortlessly beautiful. It strikes the perfect balance between luxury and comfort, which made it ideal for a group trip where we wanted to unwind but still feel catered to. The two-bedroom villa was spacious, modern, and thoughtfully designed. We had plenty of room to spread out, plus a comfortable living area where we could hang out together. The decorations were clean, stylish, and bright, and waking up each morning to tropical views felt unreal right from the porch. Having fast, reliable Wi-Fi was also a huge plus since a few of us worked remotely during the stay. One of our favorite parts was the beachfront location. Being able to walk straight from our room to the beach was super convenient. The beach was peaceful and never felt crowded, which was perfect, compared to some beaches you'd find in Cancun. There was always somewhere on the resort that great to relax at whether that was the pools, or the beach or the swim-up bars. Dining at the resort was another highlight — both restaurants offered great food in really stunning settings, especially right by the ocean. The servers were incredible as well. Overall, Bougainvillea Barbados was the perfect place for a group getaway. It felt upscale and everything from the rooms to the amenities made the trip feel effortless. If you’re looking for a luxury resort in Barbados that’s perfect for friends traveling together, I can’t recommend this place enough. I would absolutely stay here again.
We had a nice clean spacious room on the 2nd floor with a very pleasant balcony overlooking the pool with views to the beach. The beach was a couple of hundred metres from our room. Note that there are no elevators in the building. The on-site restaurant had a good menu and good quality food. The beach is very lovely - about a 1.5 km walk round trip so tried to do that twice a day. Most days the surf was pleasant and moderate for an adult. A couple of days it was a little higher - not too high to swim but high enough to discourage some. Basically no rocks at all on the beach, just sand and surf.
Our fourth visit and always great. Amazing views each room faces the ocean simple rooms but clean and well kept. Terrific beach for long walks but be aware water in ocean is rough and in front of Sandals there is a break front to calm waves. There are no elevators but they do have ground floor rooms. Pool is lovely and restaurant on site is ok
Excellent week at Bourgainvillea hotel. Beach area fantastic. All staff around the hotel so friendly and helpful. Easy walk into the Gap or taxi / reggae reggae bus for trips to other beaches. Nothing to fault about the week tbh.
Pool was very nice and the beach was beautiful. The guys on the water sports section would bring out an umbrella for you and set it up which was great. They also had good entertainment every day. Mostly music at night, but also a fire show which was fun.
Service at the restaurant was really slow. The staff was very nice, but it took forever to get a drink or food. Also, there was no where to easily get coffee in the morning. If they had a little coffee shop area, that would really be a great addition. Walking into town was complicated by the 2 giant sandals resorts next door, so the roads all looped around those, but we did find we could walk down the beach to get to the Dover market and restaurants there pretty quickly.
Breakfast was excellent. Room was comfortable, but bed cover could have been fluffy. Reception Desk had great personalities.
the refrigerator could have had some fruit drinks, and water.
Everything! Beautiful place to stay
Just back from a week at Bougainvillea Resort. This was our first visit to the hotel and felt right at home from checkin on. All front desk staff were pleasant and helpful...special mention to Roslyn and Temar. Room was a one bedroom suite on the ground floor, as requested. Everything was clean and the kitchen well stocked with pots/pans, coffee maker, toaster if you want to prepare meals. Housekeeping quickly handled a request for a mattress topper. The grounds are well kept, pretty gardens, plenty of shade from trees and umbrellas, and the beach was beautiful. Ample lounge chairs for guests. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed even with a few families with small children staying there. The hotel offers a weekly manager's reception and live music on several evenings. Location requires a car or taxi to Massy's in nearby Oistins if you want to buy groceries, and also to get to restaurants in St. Lawrence Gap. Both are 15 mins. drive from the hotel. One weak link is the hotel restaurant, Calabash, in terms of very slow service. However, since we mostly ate breakfast and lunch in our suite - and ate dinner in St. Lawrence Gap - this was not an issue for us. The restaurant is an improvement area for management, but overall I would happily recommend and return to this hotel.
Arriving at the hotel you’re met with such a friendly atmosphere from the concierge to the reception staff We dumped our bags and headed straight for the pool bar where there was live music playing and great bar staff waiting to serve ice cold beer and cocktails A special shout out to Nathan, Josh and Aaron who made our holiday fun every day The white sands and blue water make this hotel location perfect for a relaxing holiday The rooms were large with a separate sitting room which was a nice surprise The walk up 8 flights of stairs was our least favourite thing A short walk to At Lawerence Gap around 25 minutes where we had some great meals We had a great experience and understand why there are so many people returning year after year
We arrived home this morning after our 3rd consecutive stay over the New Year period and this wonderful Hotel. It is a hidden gem located on the most beautiful beach, simply stunning. The fact its the same people who retrun every year says it all! The Calabash Restaurant is incredible for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, The staff are also great, you also have Deia Beach next door - thats a real cool spot to eat and just chill out! Great Vibes! The rooms are very clean, with plenty of room. The place is also very quiet at Night after about 10 - 11 ish so getting a good nights sleep is never an issue!
The beach , the restaurant staff, the beach staff, very clean room
Nothing
We stayed for two nights before a cruise. I think the hotel is pretty nice. We stayed in a junior suite and the view was nice. Walking up to the 4th floor is not fun though. The room is large and very clean. The furniture dated. The bathroom seemed more modern and the shower was fantastic! I wish there had been a coffee machine. The restaurant seems just so so. Expensive breakfast. We never ate there. I highly recommend Bliss Cafe for breakfast. A decent 29 minute walk. Wonderful cafe.
A) Gorgeous setting! B) Most beautiful Christmas tree we've ever seen! C) Our suite 5119 spacious, comfortable, intuitive lightning and electric, wonderful patio with waterfall D)Calabash excellent cuisine and wonderful cocktails E) Best entertainment on site
A) The place needs a coffee/tea station in room or lobby, open all day (other guests were all in agreement with us!). We had to pay to get a simple cup of coffee, plus pay for additional coffee at breakfast. Even the least luxurious places we've been to have complimentary coffee and tea service! B) Service throughout was generally courteous and helpful, with a couple of lapses. Reception seemed a little cool at first and they are the first people you see after a long trip. C) Make sure there are enough beach towels..several times throughout the day, you ran short.
The layout of garden pools and beach was beautifully achieved. My large balcony looking out to beach and sea. Splendid sandy beach keep clean with a small streach to the right protected by a small reef if the breaking waves are too high
The food was very good but they were not geared to a simple breakfast of coffee and croisants. Watch out if you you want to keep in trim. There was nothing immediately outside the hotel. You would need a taxi or hire car to visit any local attractions
Location and outdoor area
Staff , terrible , unprofessional, uninterested and ineffectual reception staff .
Very friendly staff and a small but beautiful beach were a couple of highlights of the visit. It also has a startlingly well equipped gym! The water sports are free or very reasonably priced. We didn’t eat there apart from breakfast, which was adequate, but I’d recommend it, particularly if you want to visit Oistins fish fry as we did. The room was very spacious with a big patio area and large bathroom.
We requested a high floor room with a view when we booked 7 months ago and informed the hotel we were on honeymoon. As seasoned world traveler’s we appreciate fully that this can not be guaranteed but we were put in what must have been the worst room in the hotel , dark to the point that you had to have the lights on at all times , next to noisy reception area , ground floor , no view . When I went to reception the staff were unsympathetic and said it can’t be guaranteed, I explained that I had been at the hotel since 9.00am on check in day due to disembarkation from a cruise and mentioned my requests from 7 months ago at 9.00am only to be given this poor room at 4.00pm when we checked in . The staff would not even look at my emailed requests when I tried to show them , they kept me waiting for ages to find another room which was only one floor higher but I gave up as I got the impression they didn’t care . No sympathy shown and staff aloof with attitude. This attitude was repeated several times during visits to reception including when I went to reception to book a taxi for our departure and stood there for 5 minutes whilst the girl had a personal chat on the phone and ignored my presence. For the front desk staff alone we would not recommend this hotel which is a shame as it’s very pretty & lovely pool / beach area . Oh and the maid was stood outside our room 20 minutes before check out asking me when we were leaving as clearly she wanted to get in . As a side note the breakfast was poor for the cost . Tasteless scrambled eggs & poor & limited choice for £30 a head . The pool bar man was a nice guy as was the luggage guy .
We stayed here for 3 days prior to catching our cruise. The hotel is lovely and the beach and location amazing. We ate at two restaurants in st Lawrence gap, tabu and primo and both were excellent. The downside to the hotel is that some of the staff at down right miserable to the point that they ruin your stay. One particular receptionist Roslin is the most rude, obnoxious person I have had the misfortune to encounter on holiday. It is for this sole reason that I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Both my parents are nearly 80 and she was vile to both of them for no reason. This continued while checking in and out and also when changing money or trying to order a taxi and the bell boys to get the luggage. If this hotel wants to thrive then they should rethink their front reception staff. I would like to applaud the staff in the restaurant who were all fantastic. Especially Elsbeth, what a credit to the hotel. The pregnant lady on reception was also amazing.
Our first visit to Barbados and it didn’t disappoint! Hotel was situated right on the beautiful beach which was lovely to walk along each day. Hotel was clean, tidy and had lovely staff, to name a few of the best were Troy, Lisbeth, Joshua and Vivian. Restaurant was lovely and served great fresh food, evening entertainment was good and rooms very spacious, even the studio we had. Reception happy to book taxis which we used and were very good, didn’t try the buses but they came recommended by other guests. Only downsides (and they are small) were no coffee/tea in rooms and 2 nights when we had torrential downpours and didn’t want to venture out no room service available due to weather although you could order and and collect yourself. Had a great time and would go again.
We had a great stay for our honeymoon. The room was beautiful and staff extremely helpful and friendly. Special shout out to Troy in security who was always checking in when he saw to make sure we were ok.
Hi went to this beautiful beautiful hotel, for my daughter 30th birthday, beautiful room spacious and clean, staff at front desk roslyn was very helpful, booking cabs and changing currency, lisbeth in the restaurant thank for making my daughter feeling special at the last minute you was extremely busy and you made it happen. One suggestion the hotel is not all inclusive so drinks are not included maybe you should allow guest to buy a drinks package, but would definitely go back love love love. it Jackie Baker
Beautiful location on beach and beach staff very helpful. Very nice restaurants in St Lawrence Gap, but getting there is a taxi ride about £25 round trip. Disappointing- quality of buffet breakfast - hot food buffet was minimal/very limited in choice as were fruit and bread selection. Hotel needs to review policy of putting out jars of butter and preserves and then guests delve into the jar. Most unhygienic! Cleaning of rooms also hit and miss. Mine often wasn’t cleaned until the end of the day when I was wanting to change& by which time I think housekeeping staff had lost energy. Pool could be cleaner! Rooms and hotel are tired looking. Not sure this lives up to is 4star rating.
Lovely hotel: Had the wow factor as soon as the taxi pulled up. Reception staff were lovely. Check in was swift with a much appreciated rum punch on arrival. Bell boy helped with our cases to our room (215) Room was spacious. Large balcony with comfortable furniture and a sun lounger. Large comfortable bed with linen changed daily. Plenty of storage space. Good sized bathroom with towels changed daily. Handy kitchen area with hob, fridge, freezer kettle etc. housekeeping did a fabulous job daily. Room was always cleaned well. Restaurant onsite (Calabash) is literally on the beach. Good selection at breakfast with eggs cooked to order (the omelettes were fab!) lunchtime and evening meals were cooked to a very good standard. We loved everything we ate there. There were 2 or 3 friendly cats that appreciated any scraps. If you don’t like them you ignore them (they don’t pester you) we loved them and snuck them some treats quite often! The pools are lovely and well kept. The swim up bar was well stocked. The Bajan Blue cocktail was to die for! The beach is literally on your doorstep. Not always safe to swim in directly outside the hotel but just along the beach (near Sandals) there was always a yellow flag - so ok for swimming. The only thing we felt was missing was a couple of bars close by with easy access. Want to finish with a massive shout out to to Lizbeth and Cindy in Calabash and night time security man Troy. Thankyou ladies for being so warm and friendly. You are both a credit to Bougainvillea and thankyou Troy for taking time to stay and chat xx
We spent 9 nights at this hotel and can honestly say we have no complaints. The biggest assets of this hotel is, as others have stated, the staff. Every day we encountered smiling and helpful people from the front end to the onsite restaurant. They seem to take great pride in their jobs. Our room was perfect, slightly, and I stress, slightly, dated but more than we had hoped for. we would recommend a stay here and should we return to Barbados, will definitely plan a visit to Bouganvillea again! Thank you to all the staff!
Wow, wow, wow! Perfect boutique hotel right on the beach. All staff were utterly amazing genuinely friendly warm people (not so much on reception, sorry). Junior suite was outstanding (20 paces to the beach and my absolute favorite white company toiletries) we wanted for nothing! Food was fresh and plentiful. We hired a car and travelled all around the island and knew we had picked the right place to stay on our first trip to Barbados, we will be back 100%. Excellent position in between Oistins and Lawrence Gap bit of a stroll but taxi's & ZR's easy
Lovely rooms with kitchenettes and large balconies. Fab showers with White Company toiletries. Gorgeous outside areas with flowers everywhere; children's pool and adults pool with swim up bar. Beach very private with sunbeds and shades. Restaurant next to the beach. All staff friendly, helpful and professional. Would highly recommend for families and couples / friends.
The staff in this hotel deserve so much credit for these fantastic reviews, from Roslyn on reception to Gale & Co in the Calabash restaurant, always smiling, nothing is too much trouble, they are a credit to the Bouganvillea hotel. The hotel is clean, and conveniently located, with a beautiful white sandy beach, with two pools to cool off. Barbados is an expensive place, but this hotel manages to remain competitive, whilst maintaining excellent standards. The people of Barbados are a credit to their nation, I’m well travelled, but have never met friendlier people.
Family friendly, excellent service, not overly busy and the beach is private
This was our first time at Bougainvilla. Earlier in the year we spent the afternoon next door at Deia Beach while waiting for our flight connection. Currently Deia is under renovation. Check in was a little slow, we had to wait for our room. I had requested a high floor -56 steps in the heat was certainly a workout! The room had a perfect sea and pool view, spotlessly clean and very comfortable with a kitchen area should you wish to self cater. The staff in the restaurant went above and beyond despite the challenges of a few showers. I can recommend the Captains catch of the day. Best barracuda and Mahi Mahi we have ever tasted. Being a vegetarian my choices were somewhat limited but as they said ‘we’ve got you covered’. Beach is perfect white sand. The nearest shop is walking distance on the beach past Sandals until you come to some steps up to another hotel. Cut through the alleyway, a further 3 minute walk to Dover supermarket who sell pretty much everything. The garden and pool areas are lovely with the bar in the centre. Thank you to the bartenders for looking after us. Nice to see a friendly face from Crystal Cove (currently under renovation). We took the shuttle to Savvy’s a few times -great day out and much calmer sea. The only criticism would be that we had no hotel information. We didn’t know what time meals were served, there was a daily Happy Hour at the bar, entertainment some evenings or Saturday was Thai night until day 4 of our stay. Perhaps a laminated A4 guest information sheet in the rooms would be a good idea. Despite this we have booked to go again next year (twice). The staff are truly wonderful, so welcoming and warm hearted. It was a pleasure to stay there.
This was just a completely wonderful experience from the moment we walked in to the moment we walked out. Though it was our first time here it will not be our last. Everyone greeted us like family with the most infectious smiles everywhere. Special shout out to Natasha, Winston, Nakita, Jose, Vivian, & Joshua to name a few. You guys
Location, beach, staff and view were exceptional.
The only criticism would be the comfort of the bed as it was a little too soft for me, my wife found it very comfortable though.
