The location was great And the food was good too

The toilet keeps wetting up the bathroom floor and they didn’t provide necessary toiletries like toothbrush and toothpaste or even body bars

1. I did not like that the bar,restaurant and pool closes as early as 5pm and 7pm though guess check in is at 4pm so if ur flight comes in 5 u can’t get anything to drink or eat. 2. The rooms need some updating and the television should be smart in these modern days. 3. Better WiFi connections as you only get it in front the hotel and in rooms, when u enter the restaurant is like a dead zone. 4. On our first night the ac needing servicing this should have been done before your guess arrived we had to be relocated to another room which was very stuffy felt like it had not been aired out. 5. There should be something else for mosquitoes instead of spraying the rooms because it makes some people cough.

I’ve stayed at Sun Bay Hotel several times for business, and overall the experience remains quite average. The hotel is noticeably dated and really needs repairs and upgrades to reach a higher standard. Service is fine, but nothing stands out. The restaurant continues to be the weakest part of the stay. Breakfast is acceptable, but dinner has consistently been very poor. During every visit, I ended up going to nearby restaurants for lunch and dinner because the on‑site dining simply isn’t good. It’s also important to note that the hotel does not have its own beach. You need to walk roughly 100 metres to reach the nearest one, which may be inconvenient for anyone expecting direct beachfront access. Additionally, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel for families with children. The furniture is very old and quite primitive, and the bed is not comfortable. Overall comfort is lacking, especially for longer stays or for guests who need a more modern, family‑friendly environment. For short business trips, the hotel is manageable, but I wouldn’t choose it for personal travel or leisure.

We had a fantastic stay at this hotel. From the moment we arrived, the reception staff were absolutely exceptional—warm, welcoming, professional and incredibly helpful. They went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and valued throughout our stay. Their friendly attitude and genuine care made such a positive first impression and really contributed to making our experience so enjoyable. It was clear that excellent customer service is a priority for the hotel. A special thank you to the reception team for their kindness, efficiency and outstanding hospitality. They are a real credit to the hotel, and we would happily return. Highly recommended!

Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the restaurant and dining options at the hotel. I was under the impression that there would be a restaurant or room service available throughout the day. However, the restaurant closed at 2:30pm and the bar closed at 4:00pm, which was very inconvenient, particularly when there were limited alternative food options available. Breakfast was good when it was offered as a self-service buffet. However, at the beginning of my stay, when there were very few guests at the hotel, I found the staff rather unwilling to make small changes to the set breakfast menu. For example, when I asked if I could have bacon instead of eggs, this was not accommodated. Overall, I feel the dining facilities and flexibility could be improved considerably. Given the standard of the hotel and the excellent reception staff, I expected the restaurant and food service to provide a similar level of customer service.

The room was exceptionally comfortable. The breakfast buffet was excellent every day was something new.

I didn't like that I wasn't able to see the sea properly. Seeing as this occurred I would have preferred a pool and garden view.

Stayed for a week with my family.First impression is that every member of staff I met was not very happy and even rude. Room was large, a bit run down and could do with a a makeover and a deep clean. Breakfast was just ok but again why are the staff so miserable. Both pools were okay, sun beds not very comfortable but plenty to go around. Bar was okay when it was actually open. Lovely beach just across the road through a few bushes . Would not stay here again even at half the price, STAFF AND MORE IMPORTANTLY THE MANAGEMENT NEEDS TO GO and actually get a job they enjoy.

Breakfast was brilliant and have vegetarian options. Staff were extremely polite and accommodating.

Le personnel n’a fait aucun effort pour nous comprendre. Ils ne parlent que ANGLAIS. Le petit déjeuner était SANS GOÛT, sans Saveur et nous avions pas eu de buffet . Les chambres étaient propres mais un peu vielle.

We have been coming to Barbados for 30 years. The staff in this hotel were beyond awful. When we checked in the receptionist didn’t say hello make eye contact just asked our name and gave us a key. This theme carried on with each staff member the breakfast was disgusting. Instant coffee stale cereal unclean table. We checked out after two nights.

L'absence de restauration le midi ou le soir était très inconfortable. Nous étions obligés de sortir tous les soirs. Avec des enfants en bas âge cela est contraignant.

We are just back after a 10 day stay at the Sunbay Hotel. Our first impression of our room was disappointing to say the least. We were in room 113. After a long flight we arrived to our room. There was a fridge, microwave , kettle 2 plastic cups and a small spoon. No water tea coffee or milk. ( we did bring our own teabags).we were so upset to see our balcony view was overlooking a corrugated tin roof. The furniture looked like it came aff the ship of Cristopher Columbus after the rats got to it. The bathroom had a fixed shower and at 5 foot 2 I couldn't reach the soap and shower gel as it was almost on the ceiling. I didnt unpack our clothes as the wardrobe and drawers were sticky and dirty. Was this the best they could do for a ten day stay?? . We asked reception for the bar or restaurant we were told it closes everyday at 2.30. She gave us directions to the nearest shop which was 30 minutes away along a dark busy road There are no nice restaurants or bars in this area. There is one lovely one called Carolinas across the road but it only opens afternoons and weekends. You are very limited to what you can eat or drink after 2.30 every day. There is nothing to eat or drink anywhere. Breakfast was good but could be improved with more fresh fruit and Yogurts and also if they used decent cups and saucers and glassware instead of the grubby plastic cups and beakers. The restaurant staff were friendly. The swimming pool was good and quiet. Easy to get a sunbed and most days had the pool to ourselves although most days we went to other parts of the island and beaches. It wouldn't take much to have improved our stay. If they had included a proper tea tray in the room with milks and water and decent clean mugs plates glasses and cutlery that is not bent and maybe opened the restaurant for longer hours it would have made such a difference. I would not stay here again and I would not recommend this hotel and I regret not paying more for a better hotel.. You get what you pay for and I have learnt this lesson the hard way.

The comfort of the room with the amenities such as the desk and flat screen TV really made the stay enjoyable. The balcony only added to the comfort by taking a break to relax during the day or at night.

The eggs were not cooked properly and when we asked for an omlette we were told no. The bacon was hidden in the back and you could only have this if you asked. There were birds in the dining area which left only toast for us to eat which came out burnt most of the time as you were not allowed to change the dial on the toasters. There were cockroaches in the hotel and praying mantis. The pool was filthy and the kids pool was dangerous for the children who both cut their feet in it leading to us having to make bandages and purchase antiseptic cream. The room we were put in was on the third floor with a canopy directly outside which was dangerous for the children. I requested to be moved and was told this was not possible and that they would get back to us which they never did. The room was old and dirty, the air conditioner was noisy and old and the beds had only sheets to cover. The walls were filthy. The bar closed at 5pm and the hotel had constant men in large groups in and out.

Very quiet location, always plenty of sun beds pool area kept nice, lots of plants and greenery but unfortunately attracted lots of insects, pool wasn’t always clean, green round the edge by the time we left. If you want a hotel away from it all this is the one. Very quiet during the day however noisy in the evening with guests constantly coming and going. lot of people only staying a night so I can only guess used for transit. Breakfast was ok always found something to eat and you could have freshly cooked eggs. Fruit tended to be tinned. Staff on the whole tended to be miserable, except for the lovely Kim at the bar. We had upgraded to a deluxe room and it was not cheap, (Compared to other trips to Barbados) Room was very tired and not had a deep clean for a long time. I have visited Barbados 10 times now and I have to say if this had been my first experience I certainly wouldn’t rush back. Unfortunately we were surrounded by holiday makers very disappointed with their hotel experience. We arrived at 8pm and when asked if we could have a drink they directed us down the road to a bar which you had to get your own drinks from a fridge. There was no welcome drink or even a vending machine where you could get a bottle of water after travelling for many hours from the UK. The description does not advise you that the restaurant is not open for food after lunch and the bar shuts late afternoon. If you want somewhere to just put your head down and you have a car to get away from the hotel to visit the island then this would probably suit you. Rooms air conditioned and had a tv and nice balcony. Microwave, kettle and fridge but no cutlery or crockery. I have tried to be fair and point out the positives and the negatives.

Durante a noite houve um curto-circuito na tomada da TV, começou a sair faíscas e fumaça. Tive que sair correndo para chamar ajuda na recepção. Fui atendido por um senhor com algumas dificuldades para andar, ao chegar no apartamento ele não sabia como resolver o problema ou tão pouco como desligar o disjuntor do quarto. Pediu para que nos mudássemos de apartamento e apenas deixássemos a porta fechada, sendo que a tomada estava claramente em curto-circuito, havia um principio de incêndio no quarto!! O prédio estava cheio de hóspedes e poderia ter pegado fogo. Tudo foi de uma imensa irresponsabilidade!! Não havia uma pessoa apta a resolver qualquer problema emergencial no hotel, muito perigoso. Fomos realocados em um apartamento térreo em outro prédio. Não dormi o resto da noite toda, pensando que poderia haver um incêndio. O apartamento tinha paredes mofadas e sem manutenção, a cama era irregular com péssimos travesseiros. As luzes eram brancas. O hotel precisa de uma grande reforma! De manhã foi até o breakfest, que era servido por pessoas com péssimo humor. Não havia qualquer opção de comida saudável, apenas comida industrializada, ultraprocessados e fritura. A expectativa era de uma noite de sono e café da manhã no outro dia para poder pegar um voo tranquilo. Nada saiu como o esperado. Não recomendo este local!!!

Was booked into a room with a double bed instead of a queen bed as requested, no TV service was available, unable to adjust the AC, toilet bowl had a dark stain, pillows were extremely flat, no cups or mugs were in the room, np safety lock on the door. Online pictures need updating as they can be misleading.

I bring 240 people to Barbados every year for a bridge tournament. Half of the group stays at Sunbay and half across the street at another hotel. I do a survey every year. In February 2026, the survey was the best ever. The management and owners of the hotel, Mr. Felix Broome and Mrs. Gwen Broome and son, Adam Broome, are very responsive and very caring. the bedrooms are large and comfortable. The grounds are LOVELY. The pool is gorgeous. The staff...I can tell you that I have never heard such good reviews about staff in any hotel in the world. The guests LOVE all the staff at Sunbay. They try so hard and bend over backwards. The price is reasonable. Don't expect Four Seasons but do expect comfortable with great staff who care very much that you enjoy your stay. If something is not to your liking, just speak up quietly and they will get it fixed. A great team!

Good: large room, comfortable bed. Nice pool area and gardens. Good breakfast buffet. Bad: No nice bars/restaurants nearby. No towels upon arrival. Fridge made a terrible noise so had to switch it off. Bar closed when we arrived at 7.30pm. We were sent to a scruffy bar where you had to get your own beer from the fridge. Staff never smiled and were unhelpful. I couldn't wait to leave.

Staff friendly, the pool was lovely and well maintained lots of nice shades. Breakfast ok but could have done with more healthy options. Due to lack of local restaurants and supermarkets would have been better if small shop on site and hotel bar open everyday and evening. I wouldn't visit this hotel again.

We were disappointed with the hotel. Our room was not of a superior standard despite paying extra for this. It was clean, basic but had very tired decor. We had asked for a bath but were unable to use it as no plug despite several requests. Other guests had better superior rooms! Breakfast was adequate but lacked variation and was often lukewarm. The pool area wasn't always clean and the reception staff bar one lady were unhelpful, dismissive and in my view demoralised by having to deal with constant complaints. We had other guests around us who were very unhappy with the hotel. Having to endure their constant complaints made for very negative company during our stay. It was for us a cheap holiday even so we expected better. The website description of the hotel and pictures of the room standard were misleading in their description. Also there was very little provision of shops and restaurants in the local area. For the elderly traveller this was an issue.

I have just come back from 9nights at this hotel.on checking in they gave us cards to get into are room on the 4th floor, we tried to get in with no luck I went back down to reception and they gave me an other card this second card did not work and then we heard someone shout from the room there was someone already in there, they gave us an other room no apology .in are room the fridge I had to unplug it was so noisy the plug sockets were not secure the Shower was cold there was water from the overflow pouring onto a corrugated roof which was keeping us awake. The bar closed at 4pm so no drinks around pool after that time,the Breakfast was poor so all in all a very disappointing stay and would not recommend.

Ik keek uit op een dak en een manjeboom onder het mom van Island view. De website suggereert dat het strand achter het hotel is terwijl het in principe helemaal niet zichtbaar is. Een ander ding is dat niemand de kamer mag bezoeken.

Only 3 positives wi fi good clean linen affective a/con This was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. It was in very bad repair dirty. failed to supply basic amenities for instance no Tea or coffee despite there being a kettle in the room no napkins in the restaurant shower ran cold. Poor repair in all areas of the hotel, Breakfast was awful and areas generally unkempt and unclean. Poor choice of food. Pool didn’t appear to have been maintained for debris dunlongets never wiped down. If I say we were told by new arrivals they were looking to book elsewhere after 1 night this was a shared opinion. After only one night in the hotel I was covered in bites the next morning. Not surprisingly on checkout the receptionist didn’t bother to enquire if we had enjoyed our stay. Very poor value for money.

We were disappointed with our room as we booked a superior room and the room we were given was very basic. It was in need of redecoration with repairs needed to plaster work and poorly finished electrical renovations. No desk, no pictures and stained furniture. One rickety table lamp. In the bathroom, no cupboards, bath shower had a moldy curtain. Toilet was stained. We had thought we would have a king size bed but instead there was two double beds so we just used one bed. Be clear when you book if you want a double bed. I asked to change rooms but 3 days in with being told I needed to speak to another manager I gave up. I overheard another guest with the same issue at reception. Breakfast was low end, often looked like scraps with strange rules about which style of eggs you could have each day. The food didn’t look like the pictures. We stayed for two weeks and never saw a tomato! Restaurant and kitchen staff were consistently miserable as if they didn’t want to be there. Birds were on the table because they weren’t thoroughly clean of crumbs. Almost every time we had the opportunity to look, the sole bar and sole restaurant were closed and no information about restaurant opening times or menus were available anywhere. On a more positive note. The gardens and pool looked very inviting and were well kept. We didn’t make use of this facility. Location is a quiet part of the south coast with some nearby hotels overlooking the beach and offering substantially better restaurant/bar services. We used these hotels and other venues for meals and evening drinks. Oistins is a 20 minute walk for supermarket, ATM, great cafe etc. We were happy with the location. We loved Barbados! Just not the hotel.

Disgraceful state of disrepair. Totally spoilt Christmas for us. The hotel is in a terrible state and needs some serious attention. We stayed on the top floor(4th) even before the rain started running down the interior walls through light fittings and electrical sockets the rook was so water damaged the furniture was mouldy. The hotel were in no way equipped to deal with the water and at one point ran out of towels because all were used to mop up. The senior staff were quite hostile toward our complaints. It has obviously been leaking for many years and it shows. We had to fight Virgin Atlantic Holidays to be moved but it was so worth the battle. We will never understand why they have this hotel on their portfolio. DO NOT GO

Don’t believe the bad reviews on here, some people seem to pick a cheap venue then expect it to be 5 star. Rooms are spacious and clean. (Only a microwave and kettle which we asked for, also no cutlery) The pool area is lovely clean and quiet, always beds free. The breakfast is nice, and they change it up a bit every day, always plenty. The staff are friendly and helpful. The lunch menu is nice and not too expensive. Can walk to the beach in minutes. We were allowed to use Barbados beach club, beach sun loungers, which is about 200 yards away. It’s a cheap hotel so is basic in that the bar shuts early eve, no kids club, no evening restaurant, so this also encourages you to get out in the evenings. There’s 2 restaurants very close and the Barbados beach club hotel which lets you pay to use there buffet which was nice. Otherwise it’s a long walk or a taxi/reggae bus to restaurants/nightlife. If you want to go to Barbados on a budget go here, the island is beautiful, the people are so friendly and it’s really safe.

Very tired, dilapidated property. Old dirty shower and curtain. Broken bathroom fittings. Thick dust in room on walls and pictures over bed. Disgustingly filthy lampshade with dust and stains next to bed. Constantly needing loo roll and soap replenished and having to ask. Ridiculous charge for the beach towels - $15 deposit per person, per towel and then a further €1 per person per day for them to keep! Disgusting and greedy. Poor bar selection, with poor opening hours. No dinner service or entertainment. Third floor broken window with shattered glass and no boarding over it- very poor health and safety hazard.

Le bâtiment de l'hôtel est mal entretenu, les infrastructures sont vieillissantes et les espaces communs sont médiocres (les chambres, quant à elles, sont propres). De plus, il y a des infiltrations d'eau lors de fortes pluies. Bref, cet hôtel mérite un important coup de rénovation.

Mis almohadas eran terribles, el teléfono no tenía tono, no ponían las toallas tomando en cuenta las personas alojadas en la habitación, no hacen limpieza diaria y te quedas sin papel higiénico y cuando pides no te dan, poca receptividad para entender al turista (por parte de UNA de las señoritas del lobby), el desayuno son algo deficientes no tienen variedad, un día tuve que pelear por mi bacon porque no me querían dar.

I stayed at Sun Bay Hotel from December 29–30 for a birthday stay, and also as a way to personally assess the property before recommending it to my own clients. I approach reviews carefully and thoughtfully, as I am a business owner myself and understand that hospitality requires balance, communication, and accountability. Prior to arrival, I made clear inquiries about room quality and views, specifically requesting a room overlooking the pool or the sea, ideally with a balcony. Based on the information provided, I booked with the understanding that the room would offer a sea view. We arrived late and upon arrival, however, the room faced the road, with no sea view. This disconnect between expectation and reality set the tone for the stay. The front desk staff member at check-in was professional and respectful in her communication, and I appreciate that. However, when I raised the concern about the room, I was informed that the hotel was fully booked and no alternatives were available. While I understand occupancy constraints, I believe this was a moment where guest experience could have been better supported, especially given that the booking decision was made based on prior guidance. Later that evening, I noticed a housekeeping concern that further impacted my confidence in the stay. After returning from being out and before using the bathroom, I observed that one of the face towels placed on the rack already had visible makeup stains. There were two bath towels and two face towels provided, and one face towel was clearly not clean. I was not wearing makeup, which raised questions about room preparation and quality control. In addition, although the hotel is designated as smoke-free, there was a noticeable smell of marijuana. As an asthmatic, this affected my comfort and sense of ease. Taken together, these issues made it difficult to relax or fully enjoy the stay. I chose to check out before noon and did not use the complimentary breakfast, not out of inconvenience, but because the overall experience no longer felt aligned with the purpose of the visit. I share this review not to criticize, but to offer perspective. In hospitality, details matter, accuracy in communication, attention to cleanliness, and how concerns are addressed in the moment. While individual interactions were handled politely, the experience as a whole did not reflect the level of care I look for when recommending accommodations to others.
