Great breakfast, though some additional bread options would be nice (beyond square bread slices).
Close to train station. Good breakfast 😋 and pleasant staff
disponibilité et gentillesse du personnel
chambres peu insonorisées
Great food, well prepared. Cooked fresh
I didn't like the growth bottle with water that was in the room
Good location, nothing else!
Poor service. Not service at all for the price. Bad food, bad bedsheets, the puctures in your page are misleading.
Short walk from the station and the city centre. clean and tidy, friendly staff, great breakfast
nothing
Very comfortable and clean accommodation. Breakfast included was good.
Clean, good position
No vegan options (vegan sausages etc)for breakfast although I did state on booking I was vegan. I had to ask for a kettle it wasn't in my room.
Clean, comfortable had everything you need!
Position
It was being refurbished at the time
The staff were friendly and accommodating
Nothing
The Telstar is a grubby, shabby excuse for a guesthouse with appalling customer service. There were no duvets on the beds, no hot water and the room was freezing. None of us slept as we were so cold.
Good location but steep walk up to city centre and takes about 20 mins. Staff were very good, room was clean and breakfast time was a bit congested but food ok. Overall a good experience but overpriced at £104 a night , I think £85 would have been nearer the mark
Good locatoon near St David's station Clean, amd with comfortable bed Good breakfast including cooked.
Dated and sorely in need of modernisation.
Just stayed one night on our way to Cornwall and the hotel is in walking distance of the train station. The room was small but adequate and the bed was quite comfortable. Breakfast was ample and good
A bit old and worn but we were fine with it.
Amazing stay
Everything was very good
The room was exactly what I needed – clean, quiet, and well located. The breakfast being included in the price was a welcome addition, and there was a great variety available. Check-in and check-out were smooth and easy – I'd highly recommend for anyone looking for a place to stay near the University.
The location was perfect, dropped my son off at his uni accommodation and needer something close by to rest. The breakfast was good and checkout was simple.
The only thing I disliked was the bed, it wasn’t comfortable at all.
It was cheap and clean
Sharing a bathroom, a bit of noise.
Niente
The hotel is in a great location, just a few minutes’ walk from the station. That was one of my main priorities, along with the price, when I chose it. Although the room was small, I didn’t mind at all, as it had everything I needed and the bed was very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and I really enjoyed chatting with them. It was really great value for money, and the breakfast was a lovely bonus. I was pleasantly surprised by the wide selection, and everything I tried was delicious. I only wish I could have stayed longer and enjoyed more of Exeter, but unfortunately it was just a short stop during a business trip. If I’m in the area again, I would definitely choose this hotel again.
My only regret was that I could only stay for one night! 😊
Breakfast was very good
Camera pulita
Location very convenient for town centre
Breakfast was cold En-suite was not included in original booking but we thought it was. Quoted extra £30 when queried it over the phone. Charged extra £50 when booked in and told it was correct.
Everyone was super friendly. I was surprised at how clean the bathroom was. Very good. The bed was comfy. The room was a bit small, but totally fine for one person. Could be a bit tight for two people, but doable. Clean bedsheets. Super close to the train station and to the city centre. Would definitely book again.
The only negative thing here is the carpet in the hallway and stairs.. The pattern is kinda dangerous, and it makes the steps not really visible. I'd change the carpet to something that won't make you trip.
Good location and nice hotel, staff were very helpful and polite.
Not many car park spaces, the beds wasn’t very comfortable.
Close to the train station
Good location. Near the station.
Dated. There were hairs on my bed. Remainder of the room was reasonably clean. Very warm in the room. Fan provided didn’t work. Breakfast wasn’t very warm and limited choice. No fridge in the room. Couldn’t double lock the door on the inside for added security. Shown to my room but not given much information about the hotel.
breakfast very good
very warm room
Breakfast was free and had decent range of excellent options. Location was a plus and accessible to walk into Exeter City Centre and close by the train station to commute to local cities and towns.
More vegetarian options at the breakfast table would’ve been a big plus.
Les attentions des gérants. Le petit déjeuner anglais.
They cancelled same day because they "overbooked"
The bed was comfortable.
Despite booking a family room with private bathroom, on arrival, we were told that our room had neither and we had to use the shared WC and bathroom on the floor below. Only after protesting and insisting, were we given the correct room. This hotel is shabby, faded and tired and the breakfast was very basic. It is certainly not worth the £140 a night charged.
Staff friendly, short walk to high st
Room very small, not as clean as would like
Good location and friendly staff
Although a parking space was provided, the car park was small and we had to park directly behind another guest and we had to leave our key on reception in case the other guest needed to move their car.
Location only positive
Tv did not work and they took 3 hours faffing about just to come to same conclusion. Breakfast was Disgusting, cheap, cold, dripping with grease crud, had about 15 people trying to make toast from a 2 slice toaster, set up of dining room ridicuous as no space to move. Water not filteres but from tap (saw as asked for more). No room service ie. Cleaning or replacing stuff so no clean towels, no clean mugs, no replacement tea, coffee and milk and when asked for more, man looked like we had given him a chore. Could hear in evenings loud noise from downstairs and smell of waffles/pancakes for hours during night, lots of doors slamming. Mould in bathrooms. Just generally a very unpleasant stay and defo not worth the money. Man in charge was dismissive also when we asked for a little money back for tv problem. Just Avoid!!! Such a shame as clearly its changed management, used to be a very nice place.
Room with a shared bathroom is good value for money, the bathroom was clean, the room had a wash basin as well. There was a good selection of tea and coffee provided in the room. I stayed one night and the room was adequate. The bed was fine and there was sufficient storage space. Close enough to the railway station. The communal areas were clean.
The electric points in the room could be more modern, the main items were plugged into a tracking socket,I would expect more direct wall plugs for improved safety. The door lock to the room was ok but lacked any secondary locking mechanism. The front door to the hotel was left open most of the time, while the hotel was staffed it might have been possible for someone not staying at the hotel to wander in. The hotel was adequate for the one night I was staying,I didn't have breakfast as I was leaving very early
Un posto accogliente, staff molto disponibile, camera pulita e confortevole.
Posizione
Parking.
The breakfast was great, Self service, was laid out great. The staff were attentive clearing dirty tables & refilling the food options. The room was basic and plain, the view from my window was of the roof next door, that said I wasn't expecting a view so it didn't matter. The TV in the room had no remote. The staff member I asked about it seemed shocked there was no remote, he went to a draw and gave me a remote, which didn't work with the TV. I did manage to get it to turn on by turning it off and on at the wall. However the signal was rubbish. It wasn't important so just turned it off. The location is in good walking distance of St Davids train station, however there is quite an uphill climb, it is equally accessible from Exeter central station, without that climb. Exeter overall is quite hilly with lots of inclines/declines - Not spoken about on any tourist information I read.
There was nothing that I disliked
staff were really helpful, welcoming and friendly. They organised my taxis and were always available to answer questions or help with whatever was needed. Breakfast was generous
eggs were overcooked. I prefer a soft yoke but there were plenty of them
Good located
Cleanliness
Do not stay at this property with a dog. The top floor room was so small there was no room to even put a dog bed on the floor. And so hot it was impossible for me to stay there safely. I informed the hotel in advance I was bringing a dog and got an email saying there was no charge, but on arrival they demanded an extra £12. Parking is very limited, but they did offer to move a car so I could park at the rear of the property.
Immaculately clean, lovely quirky hotel full of character. The staff were available and so friendly but just left you get on with your stay which was fab. Lovely room with selection of teas and all you needed. Fab breakfast. Amazing!
Not much
If I had known I was sleeping in the loft would never had booked
Easy book in and shown to room , Good basic accommodation and room for 1 night stay and supplied the fan l asked for .
Breakfast very disappointing although l went down bout approx 20 mins from end of service and it had an end of service look about it! .. a few fried eggs like rubber inedible for me .. bacon dry and very thin had no taste again end of service ?mushrooms again looked dry and inedible for me ! Had to settle for cereal , jam on toast ! Coffee was good .
Reasonable location to explore the area. Parking available on site or via permit for close by street parking. Breakfast available although we didn't use this option.
The place feels a bit dated. Rooms are a bit tired. We only really used the room to literally sleep in so fine for what we needed.
Run down and poorly renovated
Obiekt blisko centrum.
Location and breakfast
Found chewed gum in my bed, WiFi didn’t reach my room and wasn’t informed there were no duvets so was cold even with the thin blanket
The location is super for visiting the uni. We had a double room at the back with a terrace and the view from this is lovely.
We stayed at the Telstar last August 2025 (on that occasion I rated it a 9) but this was not the same experience. The management appears to have been taken over. The name hanging on the hotel is now "Telstar Hotel Food and Dessert." The mission statement pinned outside is now obscured with a Just Eat sticker. Inside, it was untidy, sticky and run down. The bare bones of a charming seaside Victorian bed and breakfast are there, but the soul has been ripped out of the place. There's now an ice cream station at the back, and a stand up freezer with soft drinks, the place no longer serves wine or beer (which you used to be able to purchase and take to your room). The breakfast is now a self-service buffet, but we didn't have this. Our room was unbearably hot with a desktop fan that couldn't touch it. Our terrace had two dirty chairs, a table and a smelly freestanding ashtray full of cigarette butts. (This also appeared not to be private, as some random man stood there using his phone while we were in our room.) The once spacious and cosy lounge is now bizarrely crammed full of tables and chairs. That the bed and breakfast has the gall to call themselves a 5 star hotel (on their website) is beyond me. We were due to stay for three nights for our son's graduation, but stayed only one, checking out at 8am on the morning of his graduation. And this is probably the most upsetting part: had we let it, such a rubbish experience could have marred what was such a happy, special day. We booked a very last minute, reasonable and beautiful Airbnb apartment for the last two nights of our stay, and we're so glad we did. I hope one day The Telstar might return to its former character, but right now it's all just rather sad. To their credit, the owner refunded us for the last night, but this would honestly be the only positive thing I could say about it.
Although single room size although limited for space was ok.Plenty of coffee and tea.Breakfast was quite good and varied.
Breakfast area was a bit congested when busy. In bathroom tight space between toilet and shower door.
The staff were great. The breakfast was good.
No fault of the staff. Buy the room was at the front by a main, busy road. Traffic, noisy pub leavers and seagulls at 3am.
Unsere beiden Zimmer lagen gegen hintenraus inkl. kleiner, eigener Vorgarten.
Wasser. Es hatte bloss Filterkaffee.
Location, staff and feel.
Nothing
Good value, good breakfast, good night's sleep, Close to town centre
No dislikes
Location.
Room was quite small and dared.
Perfect location with parking that was first come first served. Quiet room even facing the street and brilliant for my one bight stay in Exeter!
Slightly tired in areas but that sort of thing doesn’t really matter too much!
It was relatively central.
It was not properly clean. The fans weren’t adequate to deal with the heat. The bathroom facilities were poor. Huge dip in mattress made sleeping uncomfortable. Random sock in dining room the entire time we were there. (3 days)
Parking, location
Bed was v lumpy and breakfast was v poor quality
Location
Very dated. Rooms hot and cramped. No towels in room. Breakfast was poor.
Great customer service. Very clean. Walking distance to city centre and to Exeter St David train station. Generous breakfast.
Limitations of the building rather than dislikes. The weather was hot - like many places in England, there is no air conditioning but a fan was supplied. I have a dodgy knee so several flights of steps was a challenge as there is no lift. Staff carried my suitcase up and down for me. Quite a climb to the hotel from train station so I recommend a taxi if you are 70 and have a dodgy knee and it’s hot (although I did make it 🤣). The view from the attic was pretty - although hot.
Parking and direct access to family room at the rear. Good location to walk to shops. Plenty of space in the room with two bedrooms
Only 2 towels for 3 people (too late to request another when coming out the shower and realising there are 4 hand towels) Misheard breakfast times and arrived at 9.40 on Sunday to see everything packed away. They did offer to get some milk so we could eat cereal but we went to weatherspoons instead.
They provided a fan in the room. It was 32 degrees, so very much welcome. They also had milk alternatives, including my preferred option (oat), which was great. 5 mins walk from Exeter St David Train station.
The breakfast wasn't great, but for the location and price it was fine. I think the rooms look bigger in the pictures, but were fine for our purposes.
Location for the local spoons (the Imperial) is literally next door. Uber from there. Has own parking which is very tight, managed to get the Q8 in, and it's large! Friendly helpful staff Room had all the basics.
Not the biggest rooms, nor very high spec. It was extremely hot weather, so the room was as well. Obviously it didn't have aircon, but a fan was provided. Was woken by others getting up early. Room worn on the edges.
Nice breakfast and coffee
I have do put my car in out off street and walk back to hotel cost there car park full
We were able to check in extremely early. We just wanted to drop off our bags, so that was great. The location is very close to Exter St Davids and coty centre.
The carpet floor was unfortunately not that clean - there were some hairs on it. This might've been due to our very early check in, however, with a toddler, we are on the floor a lot and realized it.
Charming hotel, got a good room with a view and balcony near the train station. They also run a shop for drinks, desserts etc.
Small room i suppose. Felt comfy though
Location and cleanliness
Quality and service of breakfast could be improved
Liked that the room was at the back of the property and liked the view. Staff were lovely. Liked the record player and records to choose from in the room. Liked that there was a fan we could use as it was a hot time of year.
Shower drain was a bit blocked.
Location good for city centre and Quay area. The room had a large balcony with a great city view - I wasn't expecting that, real bonus
A small fridge in the room would have been good, particularly as we visited in summer
The staff member we saw at check in seemed friendly, great location
Beds were very uncomfortable, the mattress was too big for the bed, and extremely soft. Breakfast was awful, hot food was stored in a hot plate, lid on, hardly anything there, except 2 very hard, overcooked shrivelled up fried eggs, and some bacon dripping with fat, put us off totally, so we checked out and bought breakfast in Exeter instead. Big disappointment as the reviews have said "great breakfast" can't ever imagine that happening the way the food is cooked and stored.
Kostenfreier Parkplatz, sehr nettes Personal, zentrale Lage
Great location - walkable to the station and into town.
Decor was a bit tired and the towels in the bathroom were tiny
Everything I needed in the room. The man at check-in very helpful, and supplied a street parking voucher as their car-park was full. A good cooked breakfast in a sunny room.
Room: It was G Floor, at the back by the car-park, there were upper windows quite big, but not secured so had to be kept shut at night. Staff: Behind the shower/toilet door was a small high window on to the unlit corridor, so I did not notice it there. There was film frosting but it had peeled away a little, and anyone in the corridor would be able to look through the gap unobserved if they chose to. I raised this as small maintenance issue on checking-out, and stated clearly it was to inform and not to complain, but she was very defensive, talking through me, saying I was to blame.
All ok, Nice hotel.
more gluten free options would be good, more fruit and some natural yogurt for breakfast. The parking was a bit tricky but glad to have it in Exeter.
Ontbijt was voldoende uitgebreid: cereals, english breakfast , yoghurt, ... Goede bedden.
Kamers waren (piep)klein.
We arrived very early. We didn't expect our room to be ready but the staff made up the room very quickly and even made us a pot of tea while we waited.
The property is in a great location, only a few minutes from the train station and town centre. The staff were lovely, and the free parking was very convenient!
The room we stayed in could benefit from some new paint and a general refresh.
Not much!
Wi-Fi not working. It was explained that they use virgin media and they often have problems - so why not change suppliers!? A very weird place. Part building site, part ice cream parlour, part fawlty towers. Creaky bed, the smallest tv in the world, parking where you get blocked in by others, very dated. And to top it off, expensive.
