Be warned! The privately managed car park (Private Eye) charged me £30 for an overnight stay that I didn’t have to pay despite registering my car details with reception. I contacted the hotel only to be told that they cannot assist me and I have to contact Private Eye. Shocking …
Lovely stay! Super close to town so good if you are having a night out on town! You can also walk back from the town centre in 30mins. Comfy beds / not too much noise and sat right on the Thames so makes for a lovely walk in the morning! We had breakfast then went for a lovely walk, saw the swans and just enjoyed being so close to the water
We checked in on the first day at around 3:00 PM and went to our room, but there was no bed prepared for my daughter, the third person. We spent 45 minutes trying to make the bed with one of the housekeeping staff because the people who were supposed to prepare the room hadn’t done it. At check-in, we were told the pool would close at 8:00 PM. However, due to the delay with the bed and other things, we didn’t get to the pool until around 4:30 PM. Then we were told the pool would close at 5:00 PM, and at about 4:45 PM, the pool attendant told us to leave. Honestly, we were very annoyed and disappointed. The entire hotel was cold—the room, the corridors, the reception, the restaurant—everywhere was freezing. During breakfast, a staff member gave me a stern look because I didn’t eat the eggs I didn’t like. She was not polite at all. On the bright side, due to the issues we faced on the first day, the receptionist offered us a free breakfast for the second day and allowed us to use the pool after checkout. However, I don’t think we’ll be coming back to this hotel. As a family, we didn’t like it at all.
Our stay was alright. The room was clean and comfortable. Don't like the shower curtain, they are very unhygienic. The breakfast was nice but the food warmers do tend to dry up the cooked food and the eggs were not runny as the yolks had set with the time they were in the warmer. The hash browns were just warm so think that particular warmer was either off or faulty. The orange juice was empty for quite a while before it was filled so I didn't get to try it. The sausages were delicious but was only browned on one side and the bacon was dried. A choice of having muselli would be nice.
This hotel is soon to be closed for refurbishment and it shows! Most of the facilities were closed during our stay. Rooms need updating and lots of damp / condensation. Staff were not attentive. Avoid.
The team and staff very friendly thoughout the weekend. Breakfasts were good and varied. The room its self was tiny for the three of us. Really squeezed with the sofa bed folded out
Overnight visiting family in Emmer Green.
I had a very disappointing experience at the hotel. We booked the stay to celebrate our anniversary, but right from the start, things went wrong. Upon arrival, we inquired about the jacuzzi, only to find out it was broken. Later that evening, we requested an extra duvet for our family (2 adults and a child). After some time, we had to call reception again to remind them. When the duvet finally arrived, the staff member mentioned that the towel rods in the room were also broken and that maintenance would be notified. The situation got worse when we tried to open the sofa bed—it wouldn’t budge. After calling reception, they assured us it would be fixed in 15 minutes. 15 minutes later, I called again, only to be told the sofa bed was broken, without anyone ever coming to check on it. I’m baffled as to why a room meant for three people (2 adult and child)was provided with a broken sofa bed. Eventually, we were given a basic folding cot, which was uncomfortable and far from what I expected in a 4-star hotel. I’ve attached pictures to show the poor quality of the cot. Overall, this was a very frustrating experience, and in hindsight, choosing this hotel was a big mistake.
Not a bad hotel in a beautiful position by the river. We weren’t happy about being put in a room in the first floor directly above somebody else’s disco playing very loud music until midnight.
The room was freezing and the duvet was too thin for December. The manager and a few members of staff were rude and unhelpful, however we found out the hotel was shutting down at the end of December and everyone was being made redundant so maybe that was why staff were unbothered, except for the guy in the spa area who was very helpful. The location is good and the spa is good. Other than that we would not stay here again.
What IHG do not tell you is that the hotel is closing 31st December. After staying at the Marlow crowne plaza last month we were looking forward to our stay and having more of the exceptional crowne plaza experience - couldn't have been more different. The vibe on arrival was drab and I've never been checked in so quickly and with so little chat before. As an IHG member I'm use to room upgrades nothing, we had booked an inclusive dinner and breakfast rate - dinner was shocking - items not available and the rib eye steak had been flattened to a thin piece of paper and was tough and the fish and chips was bland frozen fish. The room was comfortable but no dressing gowns etc ... and then when we went to breakfast we were informed by staff that they had recently been notified of redundancy taking effect on the 31/st December and the hotel is closing. Such a shame as had we have known we would have still booked but expectations would have been different, all it has done has changed my overall impression of the IHG brand.
I have stayed at this hotel more times then I can remember over the last twenty years . Myself and family stayed with you for one night on the Friday night 22nd of November. I booked two rooms and upon booking months in advance i requested two rooms in close proximity as my mother is registered disabled and as one of her carers needed to be close in order to assist should I need too . I was assured that although you couldn’t guarantee the rooms next door or opposite each other that you could accommodate them not far from each other as I booked months in advance . May I add this has always been accommodated in the past . When I checked in I felt very disappointed that the rooms were absolutely miles away from each and although on the same floor the rooms were opposite ends of the floor . I spoke to reception at the time and found them very dismissive with very poor customer service skills . And did not seem to care or try to help in any way . My parents room was lovely and they slept well of which I am thankful . However my room was freezing cold and the heating did not work ! And had to sleep fully clothed . I felt that the music was far to load . I appreciate there was a party however music went on far too long . With no consideration for other guests or at least warning to other guests of the hotels plans . Checked out this morning with hotel reception again awful customer service . Informed no heating etc . Again no apologies and didn’t seem to care . I am absolutely appalled by this as I’ve said previously I’ve been staying at the plaza for twenty yrs and never had such an awful experience. I’ve also made a formal complaint of which I am still waiting for a reply again awful customer service.
The hotel was very welcoming, clean and well maintained. All the staff we interacted with were pleasant & helpful
The hotel is well situated and has its own car park, although it’s £15 per 24 hrs to stay. The hotel is good but needs updating. The bathrooms especially. The water pressure wasn’t great.i had to use the disabled bathroom because the female lobby toilets were locked and was disappointed to see that hadn’t been cleaned well with dried pee/drips stains on the floor. The lobby and bar was updated, butchered bar staff could have been more fun and friendly, it was busy and could have made more money with a good atmosphere. Breakfast was ok but not really enough room for guests given the size of the hotel. Lots of waiting guests waiting to be seated.
We loved everything about the Hotel and will definitely stay again.
The facilities wasn't bad, the interior lounge/entrance was nice and quite appealing in terms of scenery. But, the room wasn't that great, I do feel as though, it's in need of an upgrade as I purchased the upgraded suite with the balcony and still wasn't pleased. The wallpaper was peeling off and folding in on itself. Also the TV refuses to stream and mirror devices even though it offers the option. Overall the experience was ok, but that's because I'm nice but I do feel that it needs an upgrade.
The overnight spa was a gift for my husband's birthday, but unfortunately, it didn't meet our expectations. The spa was overcrowded, noisy, and poorly organized. However, we thoroughly enjoyed the massage, Sara was amazing, kind, and highly professional. We were disappointed with the cleanliness of our room, particularly the toilet, sink, and floor, all of which were dirty. Additionally, we found a ring in the bathroom, likely left by a previous guest. On a positive note, the food was excellent, tasty and delicious. Despite being understaffed, the service was well managed. Both waitresses were attentive, helpful, and kind, making the dining experience enjoyable.
Lovely location by the river. Very comfortable stay. Very nice spa facilities. Very nice room and comfy beds. Only thing that let it down , receptionist on check out was not very friendly.
As expected, good reception - food was good and service excellent.
Having recently returned from holiday we wanted to stop over in a hotel instead of driving home while still tired. We chose the Crowne Plaza in Reading as it advertised a spa. We couldn't be any happier with the whole package, from the evening meal which was made exceptional by the excellent treatment from Dawn, Antonia, Tracey and Sunil, who made Catherine's birthday very special. The breakfast buffet the next day was one of the best that I have had in many years, with great quality food and pleasant service from the blonde haired lady (sorry did not get her name) and the other staff. The pool, sauna and steam room were all very good and served my purposes very well. First time in Reading, but would not hesitate to stay there again especially considering the amazing accommodation and meal deal which we took advantage of. Thank you Crowne Plaza
Lovely hotel, comfortable bedrooms. Wifi works well. Very happy with my stay.
We had a training course today where we found the staff (Isobel) was super helpful when we needed her help to adjust the lunch time or ask for any tools for the presentation (speakers or clickers). I enjoyed the day so much and wish to do more training there.
During my recent stay, I was truly impressed by the outstanding customer service provided by Abhi. From the moment we arrived, he went above and beyond to ensure our experience was one to remember. Abhi was attentive, friendly, and seemed genuinely invested in making our stay as enjoyable as possible. The hotel itself was lovely—clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully maintained.
Was ok but for price paid I would dispute the following: 1) there was a big event on which the staff were obviously overwhelmed staff, didn’t appear to be much in term of planning for stock as the bar ran dry - this resulted in a big wait for food which wasn’t great for the price paid 2) the room was dated and smelt of smoke on arrival, the fuse board was buzzing all night. 3) that said the swimming pool was great and breakfast was superb Staff need to be managed better, hotel needs a bit of a refurb but other than that wasn’t horrific
Just a great venue for our Corporate training - east to get to, good facilities, great team looking after you and all really easy! Isobel and Ruva are wonderful and nothing is too much trouble. Food was good with a selection to suit all requirements and bedrooms comfortable and clean
There as a trainer for a 2 day conference/training programme in October. Isobell looked after us during our stay and the service from Isobell was outstanding. Looked after us superbly throughout, nothing was too much trouble and all done with a smile. Thank you.
I stayed for just over 3 weeks at Crowne Plaza Reading, while on business @ RAF Benson. Parking is just in front of the hotel (limited), and at a large lot beside. Both are managed by an outside company and itemized separately on the hotel bill. You need to remember how many days you pay for (if not your total stay) then renew when applicable, otherwise you will be fined. The only way to avoid managing your parking is either to pay parking for your entire stay in advance, or pre-negotiate a package that includes parking. In all cases you still need to register your car license plate. The lobby is enormous and beautiful with large windows that open to the Thames river, which has a great walking path. My room was on the 2nd floor. Upon check-in, I was given a room that adjoined another (usually more noisy). I went right back to the lobby to ask to change and was immediately given a non-adjoining room, however looking at the room map on the door, my room was the narrowest room of 56 rooms on the 2nd floor. I'm curious to know why, if I'm single occupancy business type for 3 weeks stay, I would be given an adjoining room and then the room switch to the smallest room in the hotel. The room itself (not withstanding the size), I loved. + Hot water and bathroom with heated towel rods and nice amenities from dispensers + Bed comfort, pillows and linens + Great work desk with real leather adjustable swivel chair + USB Ports + TV with free source input and a remote that had a source button (for a streaming stick) + Wifi reliable and fast ++ Concrete walls - I rarely heard other sounds ++ Double paned glass on the large windows + Safe, Iron, Real Telephone with quick buttons to lobby, room service, etc.. The Gym is more like a club size gym than a hotel gym and does cater to outside clients There is a nice adjoining indoor pool Breakfast was very good and staff were engaging. To Improve (in my opinion, all 3 are easy improvements) > When a person is staying long term on business, put extra attention to room assignment > On cold mornings, the breakfast area (with the high ceilings) could get cold. Staff placed portable heaters near our tables, but we still needed to wear our jackets. I rarely felt this area to be cold in the evenings, so perhaps they turn the heating down over night and this is why it gets so cold in the mornings.....not very pleasant. > The stairway exit beside the elevator to the lobby has a soft close feature that either needs adjustment or is broken, as that door constantly is slamming. I can imagine this must be very annoying for front desk staff as it is jolting or me. TIP: Reading train station is a brisk 15 min walk or 20 min leisurely walk away. TIP: Going to London for the day. There are trains every 10 minutes to London. Track 10 & 11 are the higher speed less stop trains. The easiest payment method is TAP with phone or credit card on the yellow pad on the turnstile, then tap again when you exist at your destination (example Paddington).....You must remember to tap out or you could get a fine. You can then continue to tap going into the underground (at entry and exit). At the very end of our day (like midnight) You'll see one single charge on your credit card which totals all your journey costs for the day. A typical Reading to Paddington then underground travel for the day was 31 pounds total. TIP: Getting to London Heathrow Airport, you can take the train or the bus. Taking the bus avoids transfers at Paddington and gets you right up to the terminal drop-off. Busses depart hourly. A colleague of mine took the bus and loved it, but it left 30 minutes late, so plan accordingly to factor in any delays. TIP: The fun core part of Reading starts at the train station (great walking streets and lots of various stores) TIP: There is a closed prison with very high walls that as a large Banksy artwork on it. This is beside the old Abby ruins and worth it to see. TIP: As far as eating close to the hotel, the 2 best closest restaurants are a 5 minute walk across the bridge. (Thai Table and The Griffin). Our team loved both restaurants and we returned to them several times.
I attended the Crowne Plaza for a large work event and Isabel was an absolute gem, she took care of everything we needed from catering to IT to sourcing flipcharts and helped to make the day a huge success. All facilities provided were top notch, and the food was incredible, thank you to everyone who helped the day to run smoothly.
We use this for one of our event, we had 100 delegates and the day went great the staff were amazing Isabel was great and nothing was too much. The food was nice and catered to all really good customers service there was a lot of choice. Over all the whole venue was amazing.
Hotel was nice, staff were frendly and helpful but the negatives were £15 a dsy carpark charge snd the very average breakfast buffet
Hotel was a lovely stay. Due to our late check in, we had a double room of two beds instead of one (however these were pushed together so it was fine)., We were also upgraded to a balcony room which was a lovely surprise. Views were amazing in the morning and it made us feel like we were on holiday. Clean spacious room, bathroom was clean apart from a very dirty non slip mat with hair on there. Water bottles were also missing from the room however the reception provided a warm, friendly and efficient service to get this sorted. Breakfast was nice but the range was less than when we stayed any Reading East a few weeks before. Overall, a nice stay.
Room looked fine when we entered however next morning when we wake up we had rashes on our body may be bed wasn’t clean very disappointed. And the bathroom has its towel hanging just above the toilet seat which is not hygienic and anyone could drop it in the toilet so i couldn’t use it.Staff was friendly specially at dinner .
Room was good except it was very hot at night, no ventilation. I will ask next time
Very lovely stay, excellent staff very well mannered and accommodating, room was beautiful. Swimming pool and jacuzzi was relaxing. Food was amazing and has a beautiful view to the river. The overall place is stunning would absolutely recommend! Thank you crown plaza for an amazing experience would definitely stay again!
Very friendly and professional front of house staff. I Wasn't a big fan of the coffee at breakfast or the fatty bacon but there was plenty of other choices. Be careful with the parking fees. If you are an overnight visitor but park for over 12 hours, you need to pay for a full 24 hours. That is a rip off.
The bedroom, with a balcony overlooking the Thames, was clean but pretty shabby - very worn carpets. The housekeeping staff were excellent. Breakfast staff did a sterling job despite a terrible kitchen. We asked for pancakes - they took over 15 minutes to emerge and had obviously been microwaved as they were rubbery and inedible. So, my wife then asked for two soft boiled eggs from the cooked to order menu. What came out (after prompting) were two fridge cold hard boiled eggs. Honestly, couldn’t make it up. The waiting staff came to the rescue and, obviously after giving the cook a severe talking to, came out with two perfect eggs. If only they’d got it right first time!
Didn’t advertise car parking payment at time of booking… but reception was helpful with payment ( reduced by 50%). Whilst the bed was comfortable ish it was too big ie 2 doubles pushed together and the middle meeting was uncomfortable. Breakfast was a bit stressful bit busy people wise but .. no orange juice so went for cereal no milk at the table so went to drinks machine got milk no loose sugar/canderel ( sugar cubes don’t work on cereal !) . Went for fried eggs .. none had to wait and wait …. Then saw orange juice now in place … no glasses!… eventually it sort of worked out but wasn’t what I would have expected.. plus very cold in that area . Location excellent, staff very friendly and helpful…
I stay here whenever I'm in Reading at our UK HQ. The staff are brilliant, it has a great gym and the rooms are big and comfortable. Highly recommended.
Great breakfast buffet and clean and airy property with large windows. The only downside was the unknown fire drill that sent me fleeing out of the room and the difficulty in getting an Uber or taxi
I will start with the good bits , parking was easy but does cost £15 every 24hrs. Check in was quick and easy. Room was clean a bit dated but generally acceptable. Long day so fancied room service , firstly no menu in the room so had to get one of those , then tried to ring through from room phone to order but no one answers tried reception again no answer even tried ringing from my mobile to reception no answer and after half an hour gave up and ordered from Uber eats. Next day hung my 'please clean room' on door came back 4 hours later and not done. tried to ring house keeping and guess what .. no answer had to go down to reception in the end and ask. Tried room service again that evening did get an answer after 15 mins to be told they only have pizza or curry so went hungry. In summary for the service received its over priced , bar prices are also overpriced. wouldn't stay here again or recommend.
The staff waiting on us for our breakfast & evening meals gave us excellent service, namely Dawn, Charley, Sonil & Amelia. The hotel location was ideal for taking exercise along the Thames footpath in the early morning, away from the traffic strewn roads.
The line dancers weekend. I had an amazing stay. Clean comfortable room. Great dinner and breakfast The spa is excellent. And a big big thank you to Ruva and Isabel who totally looked after us. The hotel is right on the river and close to the town centre Thank you again
Will I would have given to hotel 3 start because of the aircon was not working in my room and the room I was in was 209. 5 out of 5 When I checked in the front desk staff with very good and help full. 4 out of 5 the room 209 with clean at a high lvl which was nice to see 5 out of 5 the staff at the bar will amazing 2 out of 5 breakfast I asked a gentleman of Indian background chef if you got gluten-free pork sausages, he went to the back asked where I was waiting here chef say no and the gentleman didn’t come back and tell me Breakfast turned around to 5 out of 5 I was going to hut her name down but I’m not going to but she is on training name start with a D that all I giving and this is how all staff should be. She ask me do I need help When back and ask the chef went back ask the chef he said no and she came back out to me and told me they just only had vegan sausage. Where I said no thank you can I have 3 gluten-free toast? And I ask do they have Frosty’s? And the chef had no idea. She came out and said the chef has no idea but she will go and have a look for some so about around 10min later she came out with some. It was like looking at an angel with Frosty’s lol. She was so help full I’m a IHG member at the cap wheee the hotel see in this class. I work all over the Uk and I see lots of hotel staff if she like this is training I can her going up the ranks in the hotel fast. And there a second female member of staff and you could see when I clock her doing her job and looking at checking on the staff that was training. Top mark on her to not jumping in and letting learn. One big thing hotel need to start to learn but there still working in the past gluten allergy is coming more common in the UK. And people started more of a gluten free diet to is coming more common. And with this change around the corner hotel like this Crowne Plaza is going to fall behind and alienate the people with allergies and people who have a gluten free diet but better health
Isabel and Ruva served us exceptionally professionally patiently and with a lovely warm persona. Such a pleasure to be at Crowne plaza this weekend. We had exceptional customer services from front desk breakfast room service etc. Thank you very much. Carla’s island steppaz line dancers xxxxx
Whole experience was enjoyable. Would go here again when I’m back in Reading
I've been staying here for the last 3 weeks and have 3 more and the staff here are the most helpful I've seen. Especially Christina and Michael always Polite and any issues get dealt with swiftly. Thank you both you deserve praise from your managers 💙💙💙
The lady at the front desk was terse, did not seem friendly.not only woth us but those in frontnof us also. We had to pay for car park but premiar inn was free, not great. The guy at breakfast was friendly ,nice guy.
Great location on the river, nice bar overlooking the Thames to watch the world go by and nice pub over the bridge in Caversham. . On site parking. Good breakfast. Nice room with large balcony and a great view. Comfy bed and good shower. Lacking bedside power points (I charge my phone overnight). Would happily return.
Lovely location right on the river The Hotel is excellent well maintained Now looking forward to breakfast My Wife and I loved staying here will certainly use this hotel if we are in the area again
The public areas of the hotel were all lovely and breakfast was good. The room itself was fine but nothing special. Perfectly clean and functional and the beds were comfy. I think for the rating and the price you just expect slightly more but it definitely is a safe booking.
Housekeeping poor..stayed 4 nights and only towels changed daily..bed just spread up..refreshments only replenished once during stay....ie..tea, water etc...also had issue with disabled parking..plenty marked spaces at hotel, but not monitored and were being used by non badge holders
Lovely hotel, comfortable bed and nice room. My only gripe was the ironing board - very cheap and in poor condition, it collapsed on me several times whilst trying to iron a shirt. Other than that - great hotel
Nice place but the rooms and bathrooms are very old
Thoroughky enjoyed our stay for my partners birthday
Amenities were good. Should get folks up to speed for Henley regatta events
Unsure why the charge for parking. seems petty
We had a very warm welcome from Saleh on reception at Reading hotel
Property is located by the river and we experienced a local rowing competition which is fantastic.
Bed was uncomfortable. Bathtub drain was broken and the bathroom in general could have used a better clean. Ring of dirt around the drain in the sink. Not that inpressed with my stay.
Nice rooms and friendly staff.
The rooms and beds are in need of an update. However, the facilities are good but more staff needed at breakfast, we had to wait a while to be seated. The pool, sauna and steam was very nice.
Nice stay at this hotel, which had a great pool and sauna & steam facilities. The check-in was very slow having only 1 person during peak check-in time, and being seated at breakfast took quite a while despite coming at an earlier time. Exterior of hotel is dated, but inside looks more modern
Lovely location next to the river and close to many restaurants. The hotel itself is in need of a renovation and is most certainly the worst Crowne Plaza we have stayed in. Reception, bar area , restaurant and gym are all decent but the rooms are looking very shabby. Only one lift worked and you have to pay for parking ( half price for IHG members) which really should be included in the price you pay as it’s not a cheap hotel. Breakfast was chaos especially on our first morning with no clean tables, no cups or glasses to use then the coffee machine needed resetting. Although it was a decent spread, they just needed more staff for the number of guests.
Hotels in Reading are very cheap. We chose the Crowne Plaza because of the Pool facility! Steam room was great. Sauna wasn't too hot
It’s on the river with beautiful walks
Always enjoy an upgrade!
This was a one night stay in order to attend a birthday party. The receptionist was extremely friendly and helpful allowing us to check in a little early. The room was comfortable and clean and, despite being near the road was surprisingly quiet. We would definitely stay again.
I stay here regularly and there's a reason I always come back. The staff here are amazing, any kind of issue at all, they're straight on it. They're nice, polite, chatty. A joy to spend the week here.
It was a good one night stay. We love this hotel, and we have stayed here before, as it is by the water and it is in a good location. We enjoyed the breakfast, which was very filling! The only thing that I was not happy with is when I called room service for some glasses and ice, the lady asked me to pick come down and pick it from the bar - I don't think that is the meaning of room service!!
Nice hotel in a good location
Very good and comfortable hotel. Parking easy, esp if you become an IHG member ie cheaper!! Slight issue with breakfast staffing with a bit of gueueing, but otherwise we would definitely stay again
Great, quiet room with nice view. The spa is excellent, although it can be busy at times. Location is perfect for a relaxing stay with strolls on the river bank. Good restaurants nearby, great selection of various cuisines.
The hotel was not of the standard for the money spent. The room was very cold, extremely uncomfortable beds. Sofa was cramped in an extremely small space and very uncomfortable. No room to access the mirror or any other part of the room. I do not think the room was worth £140. I don’t think you should have to pay such a large amount for parking. The shower was to close to the wall and you couldn’t adjust it. Also there was quite a bit of mould on the outside window and the wallpaper in the hall was peeling. We could not access the swimming pool facility because it was full. And had to wait for a period of time. The changing room was pretty disgusting hair all over the floor and dirty.
Very pleased with our stay, room could have been a bit cleaner..smudges in mirrors surfaces but use of pool was great. Nice and warm too
Good clean hotel
The staff on front desk was not friendly or accommodating for people arriving 15 minutes early for check in time. At 3pm there ended being a line up over a dozen people trying to check in. Staff in restaurant didn’t use common sense of putting a few tables together to accommodate a party of 8 people. They did not keep on top of lack of mugs, glasses and cutlery during the breakfast hours.
Restaurant food excellent and room was comfortable, but desk service was lacking . Turned up at 14.24 and told check in was 15.00. Then as soon as I sat down desk opens and a crowd of people joined the desk? Common sense would have been to deal with my request ? Bit jobs worth really and did not tell me I get discount on parking , and told to pay on app
.
Not at all impressed at the extra charge for parking especially as it wasnt explained at time of booking, come on management this is an outragous charge.
Convenient location with full range of breakfast buffet options
No jacuzzi
Our room was very clean with some nice surprises we weren't expecting. I only gave four stars because we weren't able to use the jacuzzi and steam room which were out of order. Overall, a great experience with professional and pleasant staff.
It was our 1st Anniversary celebration we booked this hotel to be able to use all facilities such as Jacuzzi, etc. the room I booked was meant to be with a river view. When we arrived we been told that Jacuzzi is out of order and also when we arrive in our room we find out the room we been put in have no view on river, the stuff was not helpful to sort it out. We was will to pay extra for upgraded room but hotel staff refused as we used klarna to pay for our stay.
Excellent place to stay.
I recently arrived for just a one night businesss stopover at Reading and selected Crowne Plaza as a known brand though I hadn’t previously stayed. At check in, staff were pleasant though the hotel looked a little run down and one of the main lifts was out of service. Up to my room and the corridor area was clearly past due for renovation, old and frankly a little grubby. Entering my room and I was disgusted at what was waiting - room clearly not cleaned / made up. Not sure what the previous occupant had used it for but bedding everywhere, toilet roll on the bed and toilet paper all over the room with blood over the white sheets. Bathroom also a mess. Straight back to reception to huge apologies, tokens for drinks and a long wait for another room. Mid Jan and this room was freezing cold and heating didn’t work. Eventually fixed by maintenance so sat for an hr in my coat while the room slowly warmed up. Room service food was limited so had a very average dinner while waiting for some heat. No further apology at checkout - I have discussed with colleagues and my entire team will not now use Crowne Plaza when in Reading - worst hotel experience I can remember. What happened to the Crowne Plaza brand standards?
Nice place
First time at this hotel near Reading. Everything was good as expected from the cost and reputation. Unfortunately a few minor issues affected our stay but we would definitely return. The lifts were not working properly for our two day stay which would have been an issue for those with mobility constraints. We had a very noisy couple next door so we had to move rooms The move was OK. The birds are very active in the car park and left many car owners with cleaning bills. On the positive side, desk staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was excellent though no bagels. Room was spacious warm and bed was very comfortable. We will return again soon
Great Hotel friendly staff. Good food
We did not have the best experience at this hotel. Firstly the flush on the toilet broke at 11pm and when we went to reception to report this, they informed us that it would be the following day that this would be repaired, so during the night we had to come and use the facilities in the main reception. Also at breakfast, there was copious amounts of soil and dirt in the mushrooms, when we reported this to reception, they told us that we should have shown them and there is nothing they can do for us. The next day when going for breakfast, we were told by the waiting staff to sit at one of the tables that had all of the previous people's plates and food on and they told us that someone will clear this after we had had our breakfast which is totally unacceptable. The tables should be cleaned before we sit at them and this is poor customer service. We were also informed that there were no towels at the spa and we had to go up and get our bath towels from the room and use these. When we raised these concerns at checkout, the general manager said he cannot do anything about this as we booked through hotels.com and we need to contact you directly..
Simply wonderful!!!. Spa is out of this world. Fantastic staff with great customer service. Hotel environment is beautiful. Just
Pleasant staff, good facilities but right next to a very busy road and a good night's sleep is impossible.
Unfortunately the hotel is looking very tired, staying near Christmas lots of noise from other people staying at 2am shouting etc.
It was a quick overnight stay, but the place was easy to find, easy to park at and check-in was easy. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Harry on the front desk as well of the rest of the staff are always lovely and a true asset to the company. Will always return due to the amazing customer service
Staff were fantastic in all areas and it’s the team who make this hotel work so well. Thanks all
If you want to eat your breakfast in peace, make sure there isn't a conference taking place during your stay. Sat down to eat breakfast, and over 100 people attending a conference at the crown Plaza overtook the restaurant, standing in groups, greeting and chatting to one another, surrounding our breakfast table, making it very unpleasant and hard to get to the breakfast items with all those people surrounding you. Overtaking the coffee machine taking food off the breakfast, even putting their mugs on our table and taking our sugar lumps off our table. There should be a seperate area for conference goers to get their coffee, not the restaurant area where guests are trying to enjoy their breakfast. I raised my unhappiness with a member of staff, and they tried to move them out of the way, to one end of the room, but they took no notice and continued milling around the breakfast tables. I also told reception staff at check out that our whole breakfast experience had totally ruined our stay and it's not a nice experience trying to eat your breakfast with all that chaos surrounding you, and I was told the conference attendees were allowed to use the coffee machine!
All good
Travel back to the 1990’s! Tired, run down and scruffy. This hotel is in major need of a refurb in guest areas and rooms. More best western than Crowne Plaza. They’ve had some serious mileage from their rooms! Five star perhaps three decades ago when the rooms were last updated.
Great place to stay
It's bit dated, but still comfortable and clean. Shower was good, but plug didn't work (had to keep it open with a toe to drain water). Coffee at breakfast is barely drinkable, but the omelettes were good, as well as pastries.
