Super accommodating which made my day easier considering the inconveniences I had getting to the south Island with the ferry the night before.
Nothing I didn’t like. It’s just hard getting baggage up the stairs, but the view from up there is 100% worth it.

Reviewed Jul 21, 2026The Mondello was genuinely the cleanest motel I’ve ever stayed in. Everything was absolutely spotless. The room had so much charm, with cute and thoughtful touches that really set it apart from a standard cookie-cutter motel. The bed was very comfortable, the shower had excellent water pressure, the locks felt secure, and the newer heating system kept us wonderfully cosy. The location was excellent, close to town, and we had a beautiful view of the mountains from the balcony. We only stayed one night, but we were so impressed and would happily stay again.
Nothing — we had a wonderful stay and only wish we could have stayed longer.

Fantastic staff, comfortable motel room with everything you could ask for and meticulously clean. Also very close to the whale watching experience and all amenities.

The parking was very cramped and we had to park in a different spot as unsurprisingly another car had parked over a third of our allocated park. Other parks barely allowed space to turn around with few other vehicles in the parks

Tried to find somewhere to stay at 10pm at night and they were super friendly and happy to take me in for the night. Ended up being 4 nights. Cannot express my gratitude to them for making a horrifying experience more comfortable
