Reviewed Sep 3, 2026Great hostel in a central hostel. Staff were very friendly. Kitchen was great. It was the off season so not very busy. Great location in central Raglan.
No locks on the hostel door. First time I have experienced this. Door was left wide open frequently and there was a back door entrance below so I did worry for my stuff. Parking can be tricky but eventually found a spot.

Reviewed Sep 1, 2026Great central location in the heart of Raglan, also offering water sport hire facilities. The dorms and quarters are all dotted around a courtyard area which was cute. I didn’t really use the kitchens but they seemed well equipped with expected items. Rooms were super basic and had thin material coverings over the windows. Bunks didn’t have any privacy curtains etc. Plug in fan for space heating, thankfully wasn’t too cold but I did take a sleeping bag in with me.
I checked in after hours so no staff present, and not sure how secure I found the check in of leaving my name, keys and room number written on the entrance table - anyone could have walked in without verified ID - everything was unlocked around the property. Shower rooms were serviceable but a bit tired.

Reviewed Aug 9, 2026Chill and comfortable hostel perfectly located in the town center on the waterline. Kitchen well equipped and clean. Heater in room and fireplace in the common area made it a warm and cozy stay.
No lockers in the room.

Im Winter relativ kühl, da die Zimmer zum Hof gelegen sind und man durch den Hof ins Bad muss.

Reviewed Jul 6, 2026Awesome location right on the outskirts of town and by the waters edge. Whole place was very clean (toilets, common room, kitchen, etc). Rooms were cosy and simple. Really friendly staff who were happy to help.
Would have loved if there was groups going out for surfs since I didn't have a vehicle to get me and a board to any of the beaches - however I was there in winter so maybe in summer they offer that.

I wish the hot tub was still there .

Reviewed May 25, 2026The hostel is well located, with easy access to the city center and some nearby beaches. It was good value for money, I would go back again.
I didn't like how they handled the room change. I needed to change rooms on my last night and they didn't explain how that would happen when I checked in. I should have asked on the morning of the change (this was my mistake), but when I returned to the hostel at night, my belongings (clothes, toiletries, fragile items) were in a corner on the hostel floor, in a passageway. They could have placed the items at reception or on a counter instead of on the floor until I arrived. There was a lack of consideration in my view.

In our private room, when we checked in all the windows and door were open so it was fresh. After a few hours of being out with the door shut there was a crazy smell when we came back, like super strong men’s deodorant? Could not work out where it was coming from, so spend hours with the door and window open again till late at night, it didn’t go away properly. Super strange. Also the pillow was very bad so brought my own from the van

The wifi wasn’t strong enough for our room. There’s only one shower for all females. The kitchen was very crowded and we had to search for stuff. Also it could be cleaner. During our stay, there were some people getting drunk, very loud. We decided to leave for peaceful place.

Reviewed Mar 17, 2026Die Lage des Raglan Backpackers ist traumhaft – zentral, sehr schön und mit einer offenen, freundlichen Atmosphäre. Besonders die vielen jungen Leute und die entspannte Stimmung machen den Aufenthalt angenehm. Das Personal und die anderen Gäste waren durchweg nett und hilfsbereit. Wer die tolle Lage und die entspannte Atmosphäre schätzt, wird hier viel Spaß haben.
Ich hatte für eine Nacht ein privates Zweibettzimmer mit Queensize-Bett. Der Ausblick und das Zimmer selbst entsprachen nicht den Bildern auf der Website oder bei Booking.com: Ein Container stand direkt vor dem Fenster, sodass das Zimmer dunkel war. Die Zimmer liegen an einem überdachten Gang, offen zum Atrium mit Rasenfläche, wodurch es nachts oder morgens zur Toilette oder Dusche sehr kalt ist. Das Gemeinschaftsbad für Frauen ist renovierungsbedürftig: Eine Toilette war permanent gesperrt, die andere Toilettenbrille defekt, und die Umkleidemöglichkeiten vor der Dusche waren kaum nutzbar. Das Handtuch bei der Toilette sollte mindestens einmal täglich gewechselt werden. Laut den Mitreisenden war das Gemeinschaftsbad für Männer in Ordnung.
