Always a fantastic hotel .. Zoe their main bartender… she is best ( no give aways) just classy , personable and makes you feel classy and you belong…. Love Marriott- you hire wonderful people like Zoe Paul
Rooms are modern and decent size bathrooms. Lighting in the rooms are nice. The TV is a nice size and I love the views of the river and scenery from the rooms. I like the fire pits and bar and friendly staff at the restaurant.
No valet service. The parking garage is too far and not attached to the hotel. Also the garage is creepy and dark at night with no security driving around to monitor the garage. Also the service desk is too far from the front of the hotel and is a long walk especially for someone who has mobility issues. There should be more seating in the front of the hotel and staff to greet and more valet carts for that size hotel. Breakfast is expensive but does offer variety of options and has nice views for seating. Also the elevator is far away from the front door and check in desk. It would be nice to have a little live entertainment and themed nights on slow days or some type of music. The toilet in the bathroom is very small and low to the floor
Location good Environment peaceful
Did not like paying for parking Air conditioning not working Twas hot
Everything
The location and waterside is beautiful. Lobby bar and pool table areas are always clean and beautiful. Rooms are comfy
It can be hot. Bring your fan or ask for one
This was our third year with the Renaissance of Portsmouth. The staff was amazing per usual. We brought friends down with us, and their hospitality is unmatched. Specially given the circumstances. We were able to check in extra early which really.helped out arriving as early in the morning as we did.
Unfortunately, on the hottest weekend so far this year as we arrived the AC for the entire building went out. That definitely made things uncomfortable. But the staff did their best despite them suffering just as much as we were. Despite that, I am sure we will return next year.
Location
Pipe burst on the second of my visit, air broke, had to buy fans from the store and was not comfortable in 104 degree heat on the 4th of July weekend.
I loved the location and the beautiful waterfront views. Being able to watch the Fourth of July fireworks from our room was a highlight of our stay. The hotel was clean, and the common areas were nice.
The air conditioner never cooled the room properly during our stay, which was very disappointing, especially considering the cost of the room. The bed was too firm, the pillows were uncomfortable, and there was no microwave in the room. Overall, the lack of a comfortable, cool room had the biggest impact on our stay.
Hotel itself was good, staff was not very helpful.
The area around hotel is horrible. Would not recommend walking around in this area, very unsafe.
The staff was very professional and considerate.
The unavailability of food except for restricted times..
I loved it will be bck
The shwer wasn't clean & no microwave in room
The area is nice.
The beds are not comfortable and the rooms are not clean. The floor has never been swept or mopped. Sheets are stained. This was my second time staying there, I will not stay there again.
place was clean. good water pressure. right by the ferry. staff was great.
fridge didnt get cold. lots of minor maintenance issues
Staff were very friendly...Food at bar was great
parking garage, and walk to front desk were ok for me, but i noticed several disabled people that had a lot of difficulty getting to the front desk and elevators
First time back in 15 years and was pleasantly surprised with upgraded decor. Decided to stay here due to Sail 250 event and proximity of Ferry adjacent to property and the commanding view of Norfolk Waterside. We were not disappointed whatsoever! Want to mention Daphne who was staffing the reception desk and went out of way to greet us as well as provide plentiful information. She was absolutely delightful! Marriott sets a high standard in this regard but Daphne exceeds that high standard! The room was extremely well furnished and obviously recently upgraded with stylish colors and furnishing. Bathroom was deluxe in every aspect with sliding barn door and oversized shower with dual heads. Nice! Breakfast was a gourmet affair with buffet set up with plentiful options including fresh fruit. Need to call out Daruis who seemed to be hustling all over dining room yet managing to give friendly personalized attention to each and every one of diners. He really made an impression on us. This property is well situated on waterfront with ample parking and with ferry service, an attractive alternative to staying in Norfolk with easy access via delightful ferry service.
Everything about the facility was great.
The communication between the booking agent and the hotel representatives sucked. The was a glitch in the system and the hotel could not see my reservation. Manager was not on duty who could resolve issue. This went on for over a week. Need qualified individuals who can resolve these types of issues on duty all the time.
Front desk staff was extremely rude upon check-in Watched a couple in front of us whose room was not ready given options on things to do until the room was ready and they said that they would reach out when it was Example take advantage of the restaurant Take advantage of our beautiful Bar Take advantage of using the workout facilities or the pool It shouldn’t be long in your room will be ready. Will reach out to you when it is. Next, I’m up The staff member barely made eye contact with me and literally just said to me your room is not ready. You might want to check back at 4 o’clock. Offered nothing No suggestions Not at all close to the contact that she had with a couple people for me It was extremely uncomfortable We ended up having lunch outside of the hotel Totally felt like we were on that welcome there Never mind you we paid a lot of money for this room And I had reached out to them in advance, explaining that we were going to a concert at the pavilion and that if we could all check in early, that would be fantastic Nothing was even offered not offered to hold our luggage or to reach out to us when the room was ready Nothing This room was not cheap It was on a higher floor with a Riverview I would never waste my money going to a place that I was unwanted. I thought they were very racist.
The property itself was beautiful The staff behind the front desk upon arrival check-in was rude, racist, and inconsiderate Talk about giving someone else a sense of entitlement because they were staying there We were treated like we weren’t even going to be a guest I would never stay at this hotel again
Location is great, very similar to in Jersey City across the river from Manhattan NY.
Room size is not ideal for my needs but it’s totally fine for an overnight stay.
Everything was great
None
The water view
Nosy HVAC systems. Did not provide the room requested. And room had several broken items. Didn’t provide free parking.
Waterfront view
Not as clean as it should have been for the up scale price
No closet space, The room was not a full waterview like expected, The kitchen closed to early when there was a concert in the area.
The staff during the day were very nice and they had things available to do in the area and inside the resort
An employee walked in the room without announcing themselves, and when I asked who was it, they did not answer. I immediately grabbed my things and left because I was so afraid it totally ruined our anniversary trip. We had to check into another hotel. I did I was so nervous that we left going home early the next morning.🥲
The layout; the patio and the bar area was delightful. The shower and water pressure was just right.
The parking garage not having straight access to the hotel by door, I had to walk around the world from the elevators to get to the parking garage.
The view and beauty
The first room we were in had no interior lights or phone power. Had to move room and we checked in for our wedding night. The food was good at the restaurant but it was freezing and other families were also complaining about it being so cold in the restaurant which made us hurry through our meal to go outside since there was no dining chairs at the small tables outside. I would have preferred to sit outside rather than rush through the meal due to no chairs around the tables outside the restaurant other than where the smoke pits were. It was peaceful and had a beautiful time. We would have stayed longer but the price was excessive. I was charged twice for parking and stayed one night
Everything!! Darius at the restaurant was great. Savannah the bartender was wonderful.
Nobody answers the front desk phone
Everything was great. They tried to accommodate us for early check in and when they couldn’t they upgraded our room. Parking was easy. Staff was very nice and accommodating. Shout out to Ria at the front desk she was amazing
Nothing. Everything was prefect. Can’t recommend enough.
Great location and staff at hotel and bar
Clean and comfortable
Great clean location
The pillows!!! Bad! Very poor!
The experience was not good because its was my wedding day and the services during the food was horrible. The services could not speak Engish and then my son went out to get a jacket for his girlfriend and when they returned they said there was no more food. That was confusing because 6 people did n't show up and later on I caught the services eating my 120 dollar plate food. They were late services and had to take out there translator cell phone to talk to guest. Please do not do any event there especial wedding. Staff was unfriendly.
Just it being on the water
I got one room for $200 before I stayed, when I went to get a 2nd room for my kids it was $400. Room came with nothing but a view. Even motel 6 gives you a microwave. These rooms only come with beds, irons, & a refrigerator that isn’t even cool enough
Location view
Customer service staff not friendly at All
Loved the location
Not the cleanest for the price we paid
It was in the most convenient spot for visitors
I liked everything about the property
The view and very confortable
Floors needed to be swept
Gorgeous hotel with stunning river views. Friendly staff and free parking garage.
Poor lighting and HVAC in the rooms. Very old hotel which is part of the charm but part of the problem.
Room and hotel were nice but customer service at front desk was horrible. After I was charged incorrectly I tried to call the hotel. First, when you choose the finance department, it tells you the mailbox is full. If you wait for a operator you have to let it ring for 10 minutes. Finally someone answers to say "please hold". Then you wait another 10 minutes. This was the second time I had to call because credit was never issued after first call. When I asked she said no managers were on site that could take care of that because one was out of town and the other was taking care of a night audit for the next few days. So there was no way to talk or call a manager unless I wanted to call between 11pm and 7am. As this is not bad enough, Saline seemed to get upset that I was questioning why I could not speak with a manager??? Front desk really needs help!!
Very nice and clean
Everything was perfect
I loved how elegant and fancy everything felt it was a really new experience for me
I really can’t say , everything met my expectations. My first time though being there I didn’t know room 1208 was on the 12th floor lol. I was confused for the most part.
The location, atmosphere and view
One staff member at the front desk was very unprofessional and rude. All other were pleasant and helpful.
Hotel was beautiful and rooms were nice. Beds were ok. Alot to do and things were close
But bathrooms had no fans and no privacy due to barn style doors did not cover the tire bathroom entry and there were big gaps around the door that covered it. No microwaves in the rooms and very small minifridge. Only one entrance to the hotel which meant a long walk fpr my disabled mother and toddlers.to and from the car
Everything
The view was spectacular. The staff was very courteous.

the view
outlets, tv volume, dysfunctional equipment, and lighting.
Clean, great rooms, lot of food places near and bars, great vew, I could enjoy my stay and relax
Loved everything
The staff that checked me in was rude during the entire check-in process and did not tell us about any amenities. We did not know about breakfast or when anything opens or closes. It felt like she was annoyed at me she had to do work. Because of her I will be staying somewhere else for my week long work trip in the beginning of April
Clean and beautiful hotel that was close to everything we needed. The water shuttle into Norfolk was easy and conveniently located to the hotel.
The rooms were HOT and the staff was not helpful at all. In fact they are so accustomed to the complaints about room temperature issues, the lies are believable. Sure the front desk will act like its the first time hearing of such a thing but infact, after looking on Google, this is a known issue. I was second in line to complain about our room and the couple ahead of me were doing the same thing. When I tell you I had to sleep with literally a wet towel on me just to get some sleep, I'm not lying. My 3 years old woke up so hot she threw up. I dont write reviews for fun, its a legit issue at this hotel and others should be warned. Attempting to call the front desk is also a joke. Every call made to the front desk was ignored. Two maintenance engineers came to look out our room and both couldn't believe how we are sleeping in there. The second was sweating while talking to us. Both told us the same thing, they were going downstairs to turn on another chiller and it should start to cool off in 30 minutes. Well 2 days in that hot box and lemme tell you, it NEVER cooled off. In the bathroom our cold water faucet was broke and if you ever did cold water on, good luck turning it off. Maintenance stated the parts were on order but it wouldn't benefit us during our stay...well itll never benefit us because I wouldnt stay at this hotel if it was the last one left. Also, they advertise as a smoke free hotel, complete lie once again. The outside would be so much more enjoyable if the direct smell of weed didn't smack you in the face as soon as you open the door. It made this space useless for our kids as I wouldn't want my children around it. This hotel is more focused on the look of being upscale rather than being upscale. They know they have issues but refuse to care. The front desk is rude from the time you check in until you walk out. I give them some grace because im sure they hear many complaints.
Big room coloring of room clean bed comfortable the view from my room
Hair on floor , USB in room didnt work, heating unit not work properly tried calling front desk no answer, so went downstairs reported to staff issues they kinda blew me off and nothing was done!
Upon arrival I was amazed at how beautiful the hotel, views, and atmosphere were. This quickly faded when we got to our room. It was stuffy and hot. We turned down the air setting but the temperature in the room didn’t change. We made it through the first night, no blankets, drenched in sweat. Day 2, we woke up and notified the staff of our issue. We also had a broken faucet that would only spray hot water, so we are sweltering with only hot water available. Staff sent someone up, he poked around, said it was fixed. We went on with our day, came back, room is still hot. Complained again, same thing except this time staff was rude and offered little solution. We went to bed miserable. No one could sleep..drenched in sweat. It was a terrible experience. We heard others complaining about the air as well so this is an ongoing issue at this hotel. I will never book this place again!
The setup of the hotel. The lobby had pool table and the fire pit. The view from the room was nice
The road works and detour
I didn't eat breakfast.
The room was very nice and I enjoyed it. However, I prefer to be on a lower lever 10 th floor or lower , no higher than the 15th floor.
Had a bar and restaurant on sight and staff was very friendly. Very comfortable rooms.
Very cold and windy but thats the only bad part and they did great. Prices were high and charged for parking.
