Superb. Rachael is an amazing host very kind and helpful. Comfortable bed cosy and warm
Shower was bit too small and crammed in
Location garden setting and tranquilityg
Just a short walk to town, lovely yard. Rachel was always there to guide us, great winery recommendations. Mia the little pupster was the sweetest!
A bit of clutter though we understood it was in some painting repair
Location, able to have special meal with wine,Knowledgeable hostess about are, wineries.
Room was cramped for two people
Rachel is a great hostess, location great, lovely having option of private tragedy at rear of garden. Look forward to returning
Nothing
On our arrival we were greeted by our amazing host Rachel, and of course the adorable Mia, with a glass of bubbles and a room upgrade to the Pinot Cottage, which after 3 days on the cycle trail was very much appreciated. Our accommodation was warm and extremely clean, and had all necessary amenities. The breakfast which included homemade preserves, was delicious. Rachel was the perfect host, and chef, as we discovered when dining on her superb dishes the following evening. The location was quiet and only a short walk to the town centre.
Location good.
Some info on what you're entitled to do in the lodge on arrival would have been helpful, as we were the only people there at that point and didn't feel at all comfortable. One teabag each in our room, no coffee or milk.
I didn't expect breakfast cereal at a B&B that describes itself as gourment.
Handy to town.
Expensive, no milk in fridge and continental breakfast minimal.
We took the self contained modernised unit with balcony in wonderful natural garden. The interior was tastefully done to a very high specification & all amenities were available for use... The host Rachel is a lovely soul & a brilliant chef so the evening meal options would be a must when we return again in the very near future.. The lodge is a short 5 minute walk from town centre and 15 minutes to vineyards therefore location was ideal.... We felt so at home & would recommend you stayvhere when travelling to Martinborough..
My partner struggled to straighten her hair in front of mirror as bathroom didn't have plug socket so a small mirror on bedroom wall may be an option to contemplate to alleviate that issue ?
Location and friendly reception
All ok
Had a wonderful 2 night stay in a wonderful garden. Rachel cooked us a gourmet meal (extra cost) that was beyond excellent. Toured 2 wineries and would recommend Tirohana Estate for a meal or high tea.
We stayed 7 nights and found Rachel very easy to get along with. Had lovely breakfasts every morning. It was like home away from home. We enjoyed sitting outside in the garden of an evening and having a wine. Only 5mins walk from the Centre of Town. Relaxing place to stay. Very clean.
There's nothing we didn't like. Felt very comfortable here.
Well equipped self contained cottage in good location (walking distance to central square).
Food was beautiful host was welcoming
Couldn't stay longer had to return home
Rachel made us feel right at home and so did the furry friends, Mia and Forty. It was lovely staying in a BnB walking distance into town. The rooms were spacious and private and the vege garden was lovely to look at. The food that Rachel creates is amazing. Breakfast and an aperitivo are included with your stay. We were lucky enough to have a trust the chef meal with her - out of this world delicious.
Nothing really, the only thing I can say is that the bathroom floor was a bit squeaky in our room but that is very minor.
Great food and experience
Nothing
Great location perfect walking distance to the main square and the vineyards. Also loved the “homey” feel of staying at Rachel’s house with her gorgeous gardens comfortable rooms and delicious meals.
Breakfast was excellent, continental each day but with extras, pancakes one day, fresh cheese scones another Rachel is an excellent host, very personable, her place is very homely and relaxing A shame we had to cancel our degustation dinner,( had a change of plans) but the preparation smelt devine
Couldn’t fault
Beautiful decor, lovely relaxed vibe
Beautiful space with a great chef 😊
Very easy to deal with, nothing was a problem.welcoming committee (dog) was very friendly, Great environment to meet other travellers in a very relaxed atmosphere. The host Rachel was amazing.
Ambiance of the house met with expectations, had a nice fire and friendly atmosphere.
The cold weather
Friendly, welcoming hosts who strive to please their guests.
Location and apartment very comfortable. Host was lovely and very accommodating and so was Mia, the dog. .
The fantastic home cooked meal and hosting, amazing! We loved Mia the dog too.
Very enjoyable stay. Perfect location. Easy walk into town centre. Easy to rent bikes to visit local wineries. Great continental breakfast.
Host was very helpful, she spoke to the winery where we had our event to try and help with our transport. The location was great and the garden out back was very nice to sit in and relax. The scones Rachel made for breakfast were lovely and the champagne on arrival was a nice touch.
There was a kettle with tea and coffee but no bar fridge so it was uncomfortable to go out into Rachel, the owners kitchen and get milk. The breakfast between 9-10 feels a little late especially if you want to go out early sightseeing. The room we were in (Italian room) was a little hot and as there was no aircon and a few Mosquitos around, so having no screens on the windows meant we couldn't open them up for fresh air.
Beautiful themed rooms. Very comfortable and spacious. Great outdoor seating. Very close to town centre and shops. Excellent breakfast with homemade scones. Rachel is a superb chef and hostess.
Freshly picked fruits, yoghurt and delicious home baked goodies served with home made preserves . Fresh brewed coffee or tea . Great start to the day. We stayed in the delightful one bedroom cottage . It was impeccably clean and had everything needed to make you feel at home . V comfortable bed . Rachel is absolutely lovely ( so is Mia her little dog!) v easy friendly manner , a fab hostess and an awesome cook. We thoroughly enjoyed our home made dinner with wine pairing . It was totally delicious . All fresh produce and super quality ingredients . The gardens are totally gorgeous with various places to sit and enjoy a glass of the local wine. Rachel also hosts a welcome drink and home baked snacks early evening each day for all the guests which is a lovely way to meet new people .

Rachel was amazing, the place was gorgeous. Amazing garden, hospitality - was just perfect and wonderful. Highly highly recommend to anyone travelling with a small group of friends, or with adult family. Amazing spot to explore vineyards from. :)
Everything was great!
Hospitality was great.

Great breakfast, the scones were amazing. Visiting around the fire was lovely.
Really great experience awesome host.
Breakfast was nice, location is great, Property has a lovely garden. Host is very friendly.
Breakfast was amazing. Mia is the cutest! Rachel's hospitality is truly outstanding.
There could have been a slightly easier method of communication but probably Booking.com's fault
the host and atmosphere
Cosy and comfortable
Was a bit on the pricey side
Lovely stay. Welcoming host. Peaceful, cosy, calm & charming place to stay. Perfect for relaxing weekend away. Look forward to returning.
it’s location
having a room in the sane house as the owner - awkward and unexpected
Very good location for exploring Martinborough area. Lovely friendly experience with superb gourmet food - both breakfast and dinner. Very like being a welcome guest in somebody's home. The host, Rachel, very engaging and interesting - and a great source of information about the local food and wine scene. Lovely garden that also produced fresh organic ingredients for meals.
Bed a little soft, which seems to be a New Zealand thing as occurred everywhere we stayed.
Rachel was absolutely wonderful- we loved staying here. The rooms were amazing, as was the hospitality. I recommend this place 100%
I couldn’t stay longer!
Nice clean comfortable room and very nice breakfast . Rachel is a lovely host it is a shame we didn't have more time in Martinborough
Nothing to dislike
Recommend. The host Rachel was great. Interesting guests were there on our stay. The home cooked dinner was excellent.
Lovely B&B with a fabulous host. The host went our of her way to make us feel welcome. She is an executive chef and we did one of her dinners. It was fantastic. The rooms are quiet and the bed very comfortable. Lovely place. We hope to visit again.
Exceptional boutique hotel - themed rooms and bathroom - comfortable house with excellent host. Dinner is by request but it is sumptuous - Rachel is a wonderful and creative chef. Martinborough is a lovely town - small and flatland with numerous restaurants, bars, shops and surrounded by many enjoyable vineyards. Olive Oil groves are nearby too.
A beautiful property, homely and comfortable.
Very friendly, excellent food, sociable and quirky. Easy walk to the town centre. Rachel was an excellent host and we enjoyed champagne and foccacia bread in the garden with the other guests before going out to dinner.. quiet location.
A very warm welcome. Rachel was the consummate hostess. Wish we had stayed longer than one night as the Martinborough Fair was being held. First Saturday of February and March annually.
Not a thing.
Everything at Prodigal Daughter was amazing. Rachel was very attentive to us during our stay, even booking us a very early taxi back to the train station. We also dined in one night with other guests which was a lovely experience. The food was excellent and I enjoyed the opportunity to interact with the other guests. The proximity to town was perfect - a short 5-7 minute walk to the center of town and many wineries. Netflix in our room was an added bonus! We also loved Mia!! Thanks Rachel for an amazing stay.
everything!!!
nothing!!!
Wonderfully unique. Lovely hosting. Thanks Rachel
Conformable bed and the host is so welcoming. Delicious continental breakfast
Nothing
We met some nice people.
This is so over priced, it's ridiculous. It is actually an odd, dirty, run down B&B. It's worth about $130 a night. The kitchen doesn't have an inch thats not covered with something and it's dirty! The garden is a tip with crap piled everywhere. Rachel tries but I found her really odd, forced, not genuine. The onsuite is literally a cupboard with a noisy fan, inappropriate shower head. The bed was terrible, old and ready for the tip. I have stayed in multiple different places in Martinborough - this was hands down the worst!!
Great place to stay. Very comfortable and everything is in walking distance.
the other guests
Cosy accommodation, lovely host, highly recommended the dinner option.

Comfortable and cosy with a friendly atmosphere
Rachel was the perfect host. Very knowledgeable and always helpful. She cooked an incredible dinner for us. Location is good for walking to town and a number of cellar doors.
The owner "Rachel", she is an amazing chef!! We never expected to have such a gourmet breakfast. Her homemade dates scone was excellent. Also I loved the home-made granola. Actually every single meal which she prepared for us was incredible. She offered four course diner but sorry we missed it. The coronial room was so nice and cute. It was really comfortable to stay-Thank you Rachel!
From the warm welcome to the leisurely conversations and snacks, it was more like staying with a new friend who lived to cook than a one night hotel transaction. The optional four-course meal (advance notice needed) and hands on pasta making (brilliant on a wet day) are strongly recommended. Planning our next visit already.
The host and the in-house meal was great. The room was OK, but not ‘lodge’ standard’.
Nice cosy, clean and comfortable room. Rachel is a lovely host. I recommend you take advantage of the offer of a home cooked meal from her if it is available. Four beautiful ocurses and a definite highlight of our stay.
Lovely premises, lovely host
Beautiful room with a lovey comfortable bed. Nice glass of wine at 5pm along with beautiful canapés. The best continental breakfast the next morning. Pastries, coffee, muesli, fruit etc. Highly recommend that. Easy 10 minute walk to the square.
Great stay very friendly hostess and very helpful. Service was very good and relaxing time .
