We were very disappointed in this hotel. We had to go to the front desk every day to ask for towels and face clothes even for toilet paper. They only came to empty the garbage during the first 4 days. I left a $5. tip for the housekeeping, but they did'nt even see it for 4 days. By day 8 out of 10 someone finally came to clean the room but did'nt touch the bathroom. Black mold started to grow in the toilet. I really got upset when we found the ice bucket with globs of someone else's hair and toothbrushes in it! that was the last straw! All they offered was to give us points, I won't need the points I will never be back!!
First time staying at this Holiday Inn IHG property in St. John's. It was very appealing to book given the location, East Side Mario's attached for both breakfast, dinner, a fully stocked gym, a pool and much more. Upon arrival, which was easy to find and access, there's ample parking all around the hotel, especially since it's 2 hotels attached that are both IHG properties. At check in, I forgot the young man's name, but he was excellent to interact with. Friendly, professional, and helpful too. Check in was flawless. Finding my room was straightforward on the 4th floor. Entering my room, it was spacious, open, and spotless. The housekeeping here did an excellent job. The king sized bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was awkward though, it's small and tight to navigate, but I am also 6'5. The lighting in the room is good at entering, but the rest of the room you have to turn all the lamps on for ample lighting. I didn't have time for the gym or pool, but both looked like they would be a good time. They're just big enough to have a good time. I went next door to East Side Mario's for both breakfast and dinner. The breakfast has a few options, but enough to eat a hearty breakfast. I chose the fully loaded 3 egg omlette, which came with potatoes, sausage, toast, and an orange juice on the side. It was a very good breakfast. For dinner, once you've been to ESM'S, you know what to expect with the unlimited soup, salad and bread. I tried the potato bacon soup and wow, that was delicious. Everything else was delicious and the main course was hot, fresh, and flavorful. Upon check out today, the ladies I had were absolutely wonderful. Friendly, talkative, and top notch professionalism. The check out experience was also flawless. Overall, excellent first stay and everything about it minus the minor room details, was fantastic. Highly recommend this holiday inn/IHG location.
Clean room friendly staff and great location. Only thing wrong was the idea of not being able to pay cash for a bottle of water. Not everyone likes to use a visa or debit card everywhere.
Pool was ok
The bed was comfortable. My room was on the back of the building which shielded me from the traffic noise on the front of hotel. The hallway carpet was torn in a couple of places but it was clean. I always stay here when I’m in town. Love that East Side Marios restaurant is in the hotel. Very convenient and great restaurant.
Room was really nice
Close to airport and the city
Clean rooms and great friendly staff. (Sorry did not take note of your name at FD) ..dark hair and glasses …. Super friendly!!! We were travelling back to AB and she was happy to store our cooler of fish for us overnight. So much appreciated!!! Hope you enjoyed your bottle of pop 😉
Handy to the airport
Not much room and bathroom was very small
Good location, needs some upgrading, but ok for short term stay
very helpful staff
This is a large hotel with a couple of wings: I had a King room at the back, with a small balcony overlooking Kenny's Pond, which was lovely to look out on, and didn't get any traffic noise or noise from other rooms. The room itself was clean and comfortable and had all the amenities you'd expect. The bathroom was very small, but was clean and seemed recently renovated, and had shampoo, conditioner and shower gels. The wash basin area outside the bathroom was bright and well lit, with plenty of fresh towels. A couple of things to be aware of: As there are a couple of entrances, with reception in the middle, some way from both of the main doors, find out where your room is first and then park at the entrance closest to your room for easier transportation of luggage. Also, the main front entrance does have a sign saying no smoking within so many metres, but the smoking area is literally right outside so you do have to go through the smoke to get in to the hotel. And, East Side Marios is attached to the hotel for dinner and breakfast, but you have to walk through the restaurant to get to the front for a table, and there was a really long wait for a table for dinner. Some building / renovation work was going on during the day (I think 9-6). It's a really convenient location for the airport (5-10 minute drive), and only a short drive to Quidi Vidi, Signal Hill or downtown, so overall a good hotel in a great location if you're exploring St John's and the surrounding area. Would happily stay here again.
NA
The area was close to the airport and other amenities. Easy drive to downtown.
Good wifi
Hotel was great. Stayed for almost a week and rooms were clean and a good size. Close to amenities and walking trails. Good pool, water slide, laundry…Great breakfast provided and handy having kids eat free at the restaurant for dinner. Only concern was the construction occurring during the day. It was very loud so son could not nap, etc.
Clean, modern facility. Friendly staff
It was just ok. Staff were very friendly.
I really liked that we had two children under the age of 12 with us and they could eat free and had a great menu for kids. This was a big benefit to us. The pool and slide was great too
Attentive staff, clean and walkable to downtown
Very helpful and kind staff. Location is ideal, close to airport and MUN.
Kids loved pool just needs water slide open longer each day
From Check in to check out it was a great customer experience. Room was very clean.
Bugs all over the room and infested in bathroom
Construction was annoying. You need more than one ice machine for the whole hotel. Beds are comfortable, showers need to be cleaned better
Clean and quiet
Very nice reception 👌. Wish it had free breakfast
I liked the proximity to the airport and downtown.
Na
It wasnt what I expected Holiday Inn to be honestly. The corridors weren’t very well lit and the rooms weren’t what they looked like. The carpets didn’t seem like they were cleaned and shampooed regularly. It was an okay stay for us wouldn’t stay here again
Great location and room. Would highly recommend!
If you were not out of your room by 9:00 AM your room would not be made-up. Asked for towels at front desk but they never arrived.
Great staff. Kept having a problem with my key card. But no big deal. More important thing's to worry about then a key card not working.
This hotel is situated in the perfect spot to get around St Johns. We were close to everything! The hotel was clean and my kids loved the pool with the slides. It was convenient to have East Side Marios attached to the hotel as well.
Good stay helpful staff
Everything is perfect
Service was excellent.
The pool area could have used more seating lots of people had to stand. I suggest tables and chairs. A great way to get your personal items off of the floor. The noise from construction a floor above 4th floor. I can see through the week ... not in the weekends when family are travelling.
Check in was good. Once we were in our room .... noisy and a lot of noise from construction upstairs. I tried to contact the front desk ... no answer. I spoke to one of the cleaning staff and she said she would contact the front desk for me. It's not fun when you have a child that is tired and needs a nap !!!
Cleaning ladies friendly. Building is tired looking uneven floors dark and dreary hallways on first floor
Nice walking path behind the hotel
The heating and ac were noisy and hard to make better
Handicap doors not working to get to room Lobby had more spider webs than ever seen Could be cleaned Get out bathroom have go in shower open door tiny spaces
Fine
Loved the pool slide and the food great place will be staying again
We had a lovely stay- beds were comfy and the shower was fabulous!! We had breakfast at the restaurant which was was not great- the eggs were overcooked and it was not hot, but other than that we had a great stay.
Nothing bad.
Every was good. Had trouble paying for the damage deposit. That's fine. That was out of our control. We did figure something out. But I think I could have been spoken to in a different tone of voice. It just seemed he was agitated. I know what dealing with the public is like, but you still have to be professional and not let your emotions get in the way of the conversation. It didn't escalate or get loud or anything. Nothing bad happened. Everything was solved.
Property is a bit old and worn, but staff was friendly, and there are nice walks around two lakes near by.
This is very little information about amenities and how to use them. Check-out time isn’t posted anywhere. Pool hours. Directions to the pool. What TV stations are available. How to use the key card. Why not hand out a leaflet at check-in? I can’t remember what the check-in person said. I couldn’t hear her very well. She spoke very quickly.
Great stay!
Convenient to downtown and the airport.. nearby public transportation mase it an wasy access to all amenities.
For over 300$ a night i want a big bathroom and some sort of view. Just because i have a dog doesnt mean i should barely be able to fit in the washroom
Should have note pad and a pen and a menu for the restaurant in the hotel and orher places
Great location, very clean and friendly efficient staff
I prepaid this property and they double charged me anyway. They refused to remove the hold of the extra funds on the credit card when asked and said i will need to call my bank. Staff were very rude. They told me it was all my fault foe booking with a 3rd party app. No manager follow up when requested. Property was under construction and hallways smelled of smoke to trigger allergies. Refused to provide towels foe the number of people in the room.
Great location. Two areas where we needed front desk staffs help: getting a microwave to our room -we were there 4 nights and never got it. Managed without. 2nd - Front desk staff said they had change for laundry. On Sunday aftn went to ask for change - they didn't have any and didn't know where we could go to get change. She did suggest east side Mario's bar - but it was closed. However laundry facility was great - clean and 2 washers and dryers.
Beds and pillows are super comfortable. Great service from staff including the restaurant. Food is excellent and fast service.
Very Friendly and helpful staff
We were greeted with excellent service at the ftont desk. Employee went above and beyond for us. His service was outstanding. The other employee was also remarkable. All employees were friendly, very helpful. You have a strong team who strive in customer services.
We were later to arrive but our daughter was able to enjoy the water slides for a bit. Beds were comfy and coffee in room was good. However, there’s a bar above the toilet that sticks out too far and impales you trying to get in the shower, and we were placed right across from an obnoxiously squeaky door that kept us up all night. Steer clear of room 235!
We really enjoyed the pool, water slide and on site restaurant. The staff were welcoming, kind and extremely helpful. Will be staying again upon next trip to St Johns.
Loud/ noisy.
I liked that the breakfast option was right within the property at East Side Marios. A little strange that it was only for 2 people when our reservation was for 3 people though.
My stay was good overall. The only thing that was a real inconvenience was poor wifi. It meant that I had to go to a coffee shop to use the internet.
Fridge was warm, balcony dirty
Food was good, beds were comfortable, clean rooms
I was taken back by this hotel 100%. I never leave negative reviews, but this place was unacceptable. The Holiday Inn hotels have always been a go to for me whenever I am traveling. But from the moment we walked in, it was clear that cleanliness was not a priority. Even the outside windows looked like they haven't been cleaned in ages. I didn't recognize the hotel I booked online, because the pictures Expedia posted were so misleading. This did not look anything like it! The room smelled old and musty, and there were visible stains on the carpet and bed linens. Housekeeping clearly didn't do a thorough job. We even found pubic hairs on the bed linens. I asked to have another room, but it was full for the night. I then asked if the bedding could be changed, and only the sheets were. There were still long hairs stuck on the duvets...I couldn't! We checked out that same hour we checked in (But the receptionist forgot to check us out, and said we spent the night there which we didn't). We booked for 2 nights in total. But it was evident we could not stay here. We ended up booking at the other Holiday Inn, the Holiday Inn Express 6 minutes away. And yes, that is what a Holiday Inn should look like! I'm not sure how this hotel got 10/10 reviews, because I can tell you first hand it is not! I wish I could have taken pictures of the room we had, but I was so disgusted by everything. This place needs serious upgrades and attention. Avoid if you care about basic cleanliness!
Awesome pleasantly surprised!!
Extremely frustrated and disappointed in this hotel. Check-in went smoothly but woken up at 1:40 a.m. by someone opening our door. Security arrived and we were told their system registered our room as unoccupied. The room had been prepaid and had no issues at registration. Very upsetting and extremely inconvenient.
This was a terrible hotel experience for my family. I don’t even know where to start… First off the staff do not seem to care at all about the guest experience. We had to ask numerous times to get pillows and blankets for pull out sofa. (The staff was very standoffish when asked). The internet doesn’t work well in the rooms (I think ours was just a wifi booster going off another rooms connection down the hall). The gym and pool area temperature is like a sauna. Pricing was outragoues for what I would consider a 2 star hotel. Save your money and stay elsewhere in St. John’s
Good location
Room was clean and spacious. Bathroom is small. Restraunt (Eastside Mario’s) was excellent.
Great staff, very convenient to airport.
Staff are extremely helpful with lots of excellent recommendations. The outside of the hotel can be cleaner but I believe it may be under renovations. The rooms are clean.
Clean & quiet
Love the location and very quiet rooms especially with us having a 3 month old. Great they provided us with a crib as well. Definitely will stay here again
Terrible mattress, slamming doors, musty odour, nasty carpet and tried to overcharge me at checkout.
Place was great. Unit looked nice and was clean. Our unit was on a lower level which was a little inconvenient but that’s mainly because we had a lot of stuff and this was our last stop of our 2 week trip. The complimentary breakfast is provided on site at the east side Mario’s which makes it super convenient.
Excellent
Excellent staff great pool and slide . Full workout room .
Nice location, beautiful hotel, very friendly staff
Great stay, good location with a car, small bathroom.
We would have made this 5 stars… but the day before we checked out, we didn’t receive any housekeeping. We called for some towels and took forever to arrive. We offered to collect them from somewhere but they said no. I had to wait close to an hour to have a shower. Other than that, the stay was perfect. Tv was massive. Shower was good water pressure and the bed was super soft! I would return for sure!
Decent experience
Pretty quiet and bed was comfortable but wifi didn’t work, shower barely worked, water slide and pool not working.
I feel our stay was very pleasant. Because of the time of night we finally got to the hotel, the night clerk was very nice to us about leaving in the morning and let us stay in our room til 1:00 pm and gave us a complimentary breakfast.
All good
mosquitos in the room, not acceptable
We really enjoyed the comfy beds and the facilities were an added bonus. The staff were accommodating and acted promptly when requests were made for pool towels, a microwave and to process our late checkout request. The slides were so fun, we wished that they could have operated more than weekend hours.
I had booked rooms back in April. Request adjoining rooms with a door between the room inside the rooms. Was told I would have to upgrade to King suites as those were the only rooms they had that they could accommodate the request. When I arrived, I was told they do not have adjoining room at this hotel. I did get 2 rooms with king beds, and the hotel did reduce the price to a queen room. The excuses for this were they had a bunch of "new employees". I found a number of issues with the room I had (318) from poor quality bath towels, electrical plugs and USB ports that did not work. A broken shelf in the shower. Scuff marks on the walls giving the room a dirty appearance. I stay in hotels for business frequently, so I understand and can accept that the quality of the room did not match the top leave price it was for a couple nights and I could simply advise the front desk of the issues so they could rectify the problem for the next guest. Along with advising the front desk of the issues, also left detailed instructions that my GF and her 6 year old were currently sleeping in the room and were not to be disturbed. I clearly told the front Desk person that the issues could wait until we checked out the following day. This was mentioned to the receptionist 3 times. I had also put out the do not disturb sign. This was about 7 AM. I left the hotel so my GF and her son could get some sleep after flying all night. Around 9:30 AM I received a call from my GF wondering why some strange man was knocking on the door. It turned out to be the Maintenace man who wanted to get into the room and fix the problems that I had advised the front desk of. My GF tried to explain to him that she had just woken up and knew nothing of the issues as I had not informed her. The Maintenace man continued to go on about the repair request he had requesting access to the room before I told him he needs to leave and a not so nice manner. When I returned to the hotel a few minutes later I asked for the Manage to call me. Several hours later the Sales Director called me to enquire what the issue was. When I explained the issue and said the maintenance man was acting like a meat head, she took the opportunity to go on a little tirade of how we I will not call their employees names while talking down to me. She then doubled down on the "new employee" excuse again. I did ask if the maintenace man was a new employee and she told me no. I also asked if the person at the front counter was new and again was told no. When I told her that the do not disturb sign was on the door before I left and was still there when I arrived back to an upset GF I was told that those sometimes get left on by accident so we don't always pay attention to them, The conversation ended by the Director of Sales telling me that she would get the employees side of the story. I have never heard back, nor have we received an apology for what I would consider complete incompetence from the Director down. My advice, continue up the block to the Best Western.
Good
Noise from renovations early in the morning even though they said it wouldn’t start until 10 am. and from noisy kids in hallways and above us until 1:30 am. Phone in room did not work.
I stayed one night before flying back to Ontario and it was ok. I remember it from my childhood but it’s been updated quite a bit. The pool area was really nice and much better than at the Sandman hotel I stayed in for the first 4 nights of my trip. I arrived at night and saw some ‘questionable’ people hanging around the outside which made me nervous. The room was modern and updated. The beds were very comfortable with high end bedding and the room came with a fridge and Keurig. Those were nice touches. However the air conditioner unit was noisy and I had to turn it off in order to sleep. Overall my stay was pleasant and worth the value.
First time staying at this hotel . The young guy at the check in desk was awesome. Friendly and super helpful. Will definitely be stay here again .
I had a good stay as in whole! But if you’re looking for multiple dining options and downtown accessibility then it’s little far from downtown! With uphill downhill concepts, by walking it takes too much time! By car, cab services it’s good! I liked the restaurant with bar they have with the hotel, multiple options for breakfast, I only took breakfasts there! Those portions are good for a full day going out and enjoy! Another thing I like the calmness around the neighbourhood, though downtown also not that noisy, but the hotel place is too calm for a peaceful stay!! Not for party people, so I liked it!
Very dated
Great location and very clean
Price was reasonable. Location was good. Included breakfast was good and convenient. Hotel staff all friendly. The room was slightly tired looking with two sad paper cups the only cups. No glasses whatsoever for water or other drinks. Paper tissue dispenser was empty after one tissue removed. Noisy children running in corridor late evening.
