The staff were weird trained and management very involved
The hotel needs to be renovatedenjoyable
An Experience! Entertaining Host
Bill Clinton. Man sieht schon: schwierig, überhaupt etwas Negatives zu finden :-)
Everything perfect from beginning to end The owner Brian is amazing we love him and his castle
Nothing it really was perfect
Everything. Very authentic classical Irish stay. Places like this are a gem and need to be visited and enjoyed!

Location and ambience. Staff very friendly and helped us in every question we had.
Room and bath conditions were not as expected. The bad smell of the bathroom was there.
Very beautiful castle with lots of history and character . The owner Brian was so attentive and helpful and had an amazing memory for names and he gave a lovely history about the Castle before dinner in the bar with complimentary prosecco around a burning log fire . Thank you . We will definitely re visit when we are back in the area and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the amazing food

Scenic location Great common spaces Good vibes Interesting dinner

This was a wonderful way to end our time in Ireland! Abbeyglen Castle is right on the edge of town, and the main streets of Clifden are easily accessible within a five-minute walk. The castle is also at the start of the Sky Road from Clifden, which is a beautiful and fun drive to take. You can feel the history of Abbeyglen as soon as you walk through the doors, and you’ll quickly learn even more during the owner’s champagne toast in the evening! The owner is a vibrant and engaging man who clearly enjoys getting to know his guests and making them feel comfortable and welcome. The bar had great drinks and live music, including a performance by a well-known Irish singer and pianist! We only had breakfast at the castle, but there were plenty of options and we really enjoyed our meals. We stayed in one of the larger rooms, which was incredibly spacious and included a sitting area, desk, fireplace, clawfoot tub, and large four-poster bed. It was truly a treat to stay in such a historic place. There are parts of the castle that feel a bit dated, but we appreciated that the owners are clearly making an effort to preserve its history and character. We were also pleasantly surprised by the affordable prices, especially given the impressive clientele and atmosphere. Overall, Abbeyglen was a memorable and charming place to stay, and we’re so glad we chose it to finish our trip.

It has great character
Loved location
The staff were very friendly & helpful. Brian was especially funny & entertaining & treated us like family. Brian took photos of us each evening & gave us copies in a small folder with Abbeyglen displayed on the front. The building is lovely & decorated well. It’s a 10 minute walk into Clifden.
The driveway is steep & when leaving, the car bottomed out on the hump at the top where it meets the road.
Allgemeiner Stil des Hotels, Lage sowie die Grösse und Ausstattung der Zimmer.
Beautiful 1800’s castle set in a lovely location.

To get the perfect balance of luxury and a warm, genuine host is rare but Abbey Glen succeeds. There is nothing not to love about this place. We left feeling relaxed as if we'd stayed with family rather than in a fine hotel. The room was perfect. The food was phenomenal. The Craic was fantastic. I will reccommend to all and hope to return one day soon.

Lovely property and location
toller Service, spezielles Ambiente
Beautiful setting
Nothing to see here.
It's a beautiful hotel. Our room was well located with views over the gardens. Location was great. I walked into Clifden. Not even a kilometre. We ate at the hotel two nights. Beautiful food. And breakfast was great. Brilliant service and all so kind. The owners are hands on and they have some lovely touches. Eg. Souvenir photos at dinner framed in an Abbeyglen card. Lovely.
The shower over the bath. It's just plain unsafe. Walk in showers are safer.
We had a wonderful stay at Abbeyglen Castle Hotel. The hosts and staff were genuinely warm and welcoming, and we really felt the care and hospitality throughout our visit. The location is superb, with beautiful surroundings and easy access to Clifden and the Connemara region. The hotel has plenty of character, making it a relaxing and memorable place to stay.
Nothing worth mentioning. We had a very enjoyable stay.

Ausgezeichnet ! Sehr gut geführt und man wird verwöhnt
???
The welcome reception was lovely, breakfast was amazing and the manager was so nice. I would stay here again for sure. Property is beautiful. We wish we could have stayed another night.
My only wish is that A/C was offered but I know most of Europe does not have AC.
Beautiful building with a lot of character.
This hotel was just amazing from the amazing staff to the beautiful breakfast
Nothing
The kindness of the staff, room size, bar and social areas. Breakfast was excellent and evening meal was very good. The real fire made it feel cosy in the miserable weather conditions. The talk in the evening in the bar.
Nothing to dislike
The food, the craic, the music, the hotel itself is alway amazing at the abbeyglen. We always have a brilliant time when we are here.

Love this castle! The food and staff were amazing. I’d stay here again!
Nothing
Everything felt like a dream. The surroundings are beautiful. The food was very good. In all the experience of staying there was wonderful for us all. We were five and would all highly recommend staying there :)
From beginning to end the experience was incredible. The greeting of the African grey parrot, to the decor of reception, to the drinks served on the patio, it just felt oldie worldie, Our rooms were spotless and the quality of the bedding was very there to see, I loved the old style meets modern feel of the place, The food was top rate, the wines excellent, the portions huge, the staff could not do enough for you, The abbey glen team really have their game covered
From the moment we arrived, the welcome we received from the staff and throughout our stay nothing seemed to be a problem. This family run hotel is a gem.
I was staying in another hotel in Clifden with my mother. We had heard a lot of positive things about this hotel, so we decided to visit for afternoon tea and scones. It wasn't busy. Despite this, we felt instantly unwelcome, like uninvited guests at a funeral who might have been there to steal the silver. The owners/managers seemed to be busy playing up to guests who were staying there-which is fine-but we were also guests. Did I imagine the side-eyes from them to us?! In terms of service, we were positively neglected, having to keep asking for things that hadn't arrived like napkins and milk for the tea! The price for tea (with no offer of top-ups) and tiny, unmemorable scones was ludicrous. If the hotel has a policy that outside guests are not welcome, they should put up a sign to that effect rather than vibing people out. This place gets great reviews, and if I was in that parallel universe of our fellow guests in that same room being charmed and regaled (and fed properly!) by the owners, I would be writing a terrific review. Instead, I'm not. It's very short-sighted of business owners to get someone in their door for small business (tea and scones) and treat them as one-off passing trade rather than having potential to recommend to others, repeat their visit, holiday or celebrate a wedding or birthday. (As an aside, my pal was looking at wedding venues in Dublin a few years ago. Accompanying him to a potential venue, I used the toilets. On a quiet Sunday, the ladies' toilets were dirty with paper strewn all over the booths and floor. Neither he nor his now-husband had thought to check this. Based on my observations, they went elsewhere for their wedding.) When all goes well, guests will overlook the dust and age in a venue, even find it charming. When you feel like an intruder, the dust, etc. becomes a further reason to find fault. People will always go there because they want to stay in a castle and because of the glowing reviews. I'll forever avoid the place and advise readers to do the same.
Staying at Abbeyglen Castle was the highlight of my trip to Ireland! My room was charming - and accessible for my wheelchair. I loved the history talk in the bar before dinner. I'd stay here again!
It was unique in its architecture and decor . A warm cozy feel . Beautiful grounds . We had enjoyable dining evening with great food to a birthday celebration. And we had fun afterwards in the pub.

Large room. Large bath. Nice public spaces. Close to but out of town. Friendly proprietor. Excellent breakfast.
We wanted to spend a night in a castle in Ireland (doesn’t everyone?) and had done a lot of research. Many castles were very high priced, others were already reserved many months out, or not on our itinerary. The AbbeyGlen is only 200 years old and built by an industrialist. It does possess the requisite stone and woodwork to make for a unique stay. We really did enjoy this out of the norm experience. On the lower end, a small room complete with prosecco toast, gourmet (subjective) dinner, and breakfast was €400. One negative was the arrival of a Trafalgar Tour bus spilling 50 individuals into our idyll. I know, who am I to complain… The second negative was that it had been a sunny day and our room was very hot/stuffy and remained so for the night. Windows in heavy wood frames wouldn’t open, sign in room said, “don’t try” we asked staff and was told no and no fans. Next morning complained and different staff showed how to open the window. So we sweltered a bit. Small matter. The world turned and the adventure continued. But, we would ask the management to please clarify this for future guests. It’s okay to be hot, but to find out later that you didn’t need to… So, 4 out of 5 stars. Still a very unique and enjoyable experience. Otherwise, all staff really worked hard, particularly to ensure that everyone in the dining room (especially us in two tops on the perimeter around big tour group tables) were given equal attention - Big Thanks.
Loved the 1800, meet and greet session
Loved it all
A delightful experience with wonderful employees. Parking is just a few yards away, with a doorman on hand to help. Ronan Hughes gave us a delightful background story of the castle while we sipped complimentary bubbly. He made it his job to know your name and greeted you the next morning at breakfast...by name! The food was delicious. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The area is quiet and beautiful. A special place for adults to relax and enjoy.
The proprietor was a delight and the property incredibly relaxing. Breakfast was traditional and delicious.
Nothing.
Everything was beyond our expectations. And the bonus of a great walk to take.
The best of the best. I highly recommend the Abbeyglen Castle Hotel. The positives are almost too much to list. From the ease of check in, the comfortable rooms, friendly staff, wonderful food, cozy amenities... this castle hotel exceeded my expectations. I will be staying here again!
The beds were comfy and room was spacious.
It was clean and felt new.
Everything! Great food, fabulous service, friendly and helpful staff, wonderful location.

Tout
Myself and my wife stayed in the Abbeyglen in April. We had a great experience. Staff were friendly and professional. We received the warmest of welcomes. Amazing atmosphere in the evening. The food was without doubt the best hotel food that I've ever experienced. We will be back!
Showers didn’t have any pressure
Just back from a 3 night stay with friends, Brian and his staff are fantastic, guest service and experience are top of their list. The standard of the food in the restraunt is fantastic, great athmosphere in the bar in the evenings.Wonderful experience overall.
