Grande Roche Hotel

Overall it was a very quaint and charming place.

It was a beautiful location to stay in in Paarl. We were upgraded to a Terrace Suite which was a lovely surprise and spacious as we were staying 4 nights. The attention to detail was outstanding and the room was so beautifully decorated. We received a complimentary bottle of wine and a welcome cocktail and sweet treat in the room on arrival as it was my husband’s birthday. The breakfast options were excellent and it was served in a beautiful location with beautiful views at the hotel restaurant. Unfortunately we didn’t get to eat in the restaurant but we did have room service which was delicious. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom spacious. Very nice amenities in the bathroom too. On check out we also received two bottles of water presented in a lovely GR bag.

Restaurant is very spacious. Dimmed lights (the chandeliers gave too much light) and darker walls would definitely create a more cozy feeling.

We were greeted by name everywhere we went, as in Mr and Mrs. Vary polite staff and clearly know how to impress and provide a decorum befitting such an establishment. The room was in a converted barn type building, or old staff cottages, and consisted of 3 room. A bedroom, bathroom and a lounge. Complimentary bottle of wine was in the room on arrival. All meals were extra on the cost of the room and this doubled the overall cost of the stay. The food was fabulous especially the Spicy Mince for breakfast (3x I had that). The wine list was comprehensive with in house grape varieties that hit the spot. Whisky selection was the best we've seen anywhere from run of the mill Jamesons to McCallan 12 year. Check the list as some were £25 a shot! After checkout we we're allowed to leave the car and go walking in town before returning to kill some time in the bar area before heading for CPT airport. This is the place to go for some luxury at the end of a long road trip.

That the pool was not heated.and the television in the living room did not work

The restaurant unfortunately is not quite up to the same standard as the hotel itself. Table service, although very friendly, is sorely lacking in some of the fundamentals of hospitality. A short course in the basics of table service would not go amiss.

Die Lage ist einzigartig. Der Blick auf die Weinberge und das Gebirge im Hintergrund gepaart mit den schönen reetgedeckten Häusern - grandios. Das Personal ist freundlich und es blieb kein Wunsch unerfüllt. Der größere Pool ist ein toller Platz um sich zu entspannen und die Sonne zu genießen. Die Frühstücksauswahl ist super und wir haben es genossen draußen auf der Terrasse ausgiebig zu frühstücken.

Außergewöhnliche einfach mal zum Abschalten und die Tolle Aussicht inhalieren

Das Hotel besticht durch die überschauberkeit, dem überaus freundlichem Personal, der genialen Lage, dem sehr guten Essen und Trinken. Den einzigen Fehler den man machen kann es bei Verfügbarkeit nicht zu buchen.

Staff were amazing. Wade, Manelise and a few waitresses in the restaurant. Facilities were beyond luxurious. Spa treatment was outstanding. 5 star hotel 5 star staff 5 star customer service

Asked for late check out due to flight change and partner being unwell but were unable to provide anything despite reception telling us the hotel was very quiet Dinner food delicious but limited menu - ordered room service for variety Pool area a bit neglected and not staffed… if you want drinks or food need to place a call. Area not checked during day so build up of used towels dishes etc

Good location and setting

Rooms are a bit run down. The TV had only a few international channels. Staff in the dining room did not really look interested in their job. No buffet at breakfast, everything has to be ordered from the menu.

Das Abendessen am ersten Abend hat über eine Std gedauert und war kalt. Es könnte hier und da Modernisierung vertragen. Die Weinprobe war an der Rezeption von 5:30 Uhr bis 6:30 Uhr angekündigt worden. Als wir um 6:00 Uhr erschienen wurde uns gesagt, dass die Weinprobe nur bis sechs gegangen war und es wurde erst nach längeren Nachfragen widerwillig ein Wein ausgeschenkt. Für ein Hotel dieser Klasse und bei dem Preis, haben wir das als unnötig, überraschend und leider auch unprofessionell erlebt.

Уборщица украла из сейфа 900$ (воспользовалась мастер ключом). Когда я вернулся в номер я и не понял что произошло, но сейф больше не принимал мой код. Пришел техник и открыл его мастер ключом , деньги в сейфе были но я их не пересчитал. Понял что их украли уже когда покинул отель. Будьте осторожны деньги в сейфе и ценности тоже могут украсть из сейфа

Leider entsprach unser Aufenthalt im Grand Roche Hotel absolut nicht unseren Erwartungen und schon gar nicht den Bildern, die online präsentiert werden. Schon der Start verlief holprig: Obwohl wir pünktlich zur Check-in-Zeit anreisten, war unser Zimmer noch nicht fertig. Wir wurden gebeten, im hauseigenen Restaurant zu warten. Leider hielt man es dort nicht für nötig, uns für die Wartezeit auch nur ein Glas Wasser oder einen Kaffee als kleine Entschuldigung anzubieten – von Gastfreundschaft fehlte hier jede Spur. Das erste Zimmer, das wir schließlich bekamen, war stark abgewohnt und roch unangenehm muffig. Es hatte rein gar nichts mit den schönen Fotos im Internet zu tun. Besonders das Badezimmer war ein Schock: Es schien über 30 Jahre alt zu sein, mit stark vergilbten Armaturen und einer unschönen Atmosphäre. Nach unserer Beschwerde an der Rezeption erhielten wir ein neues Zimmer, das uns als Upgrade verkauft wurde. Aber auch hier wurden wir enttäuscht. Das Zimmer roch ebenfalls muffig und war total veraltet. Zu allem Überfluss hatten wir hier ein Problem mit Ameisen, die sich sowohl an den Fenstern als auch im Badezimmer tummelten. Auch der Service und die Erholung kamen deutlich zu kurz. An einem Tag unseres Aufenthalts wurde das Zimmer komplett vom Reinigungspersonal vergessen. An Entspannung auf der Anlage war ebenfalls nicht zu denken: Ausgerechnet am schönsten Tag unseres Urlaubs wurden von morgens bis abends lautstarke Gartenarbeiten verrichtet, inklusive stundenlangem Rasenmähen und lautem Laubbläser. Einen weiteren negativen Beigeschmack hinterließ das Frühstück. Erst an unserem allerletzten Tag wurde uns beiläufig mitgeteilt, dass das Wasser beim Frühstück nicht im Preis inkludiert ist und extra abgerechnet wird. Eine solche intransparente Preispolitik ist für mich inakzeptabel.

This is lovely hotel, with fabulous views over vineyards and the mountains beyond. We had a Terrace Suite, which was large and well decorated. Thatched ceiling - very authentic! Extremely comfy bed. Good walk in shower! Proper AC. The hotel is luxury on all accounts with an excellent restaurant, a big pool (un heated), tennis courts and they serve great wines from the owner's vineyard. The staff were very friendly and efficient. A very short stroll into the smart end of Paarl.

I would have preferred an element of self-service buffet-style with the option of ordering a cooked breakfast served on request. As everything was ordered at table from the menu, one had to rely on description rather than inspection to make one's choice. What was served was of good quality.

We booked one night at the Grande Roche, but extended our stay as we were not feeling well. The hotel and staff were absolutely excellent and supportive. They kindly booked another night for us and did everything they could to make our stay as nice as possible. We can’t thank them enough.

The restaurant dinner was not good , not what one would expect from a 5 star hotel and unfortunately the wines by the glass are mostly not great quality and not a reflection of the wines of SA .

Beautiful location, amazing grounds, awesome spacious room, very pleasant staff, including Carlton - who was particularly helpful and good with our baby :) Swimming pool is nice. Amazing views.

The restaurant is a complete mess. Dinner and breakfast servings were slightly farcical with meals taking hours to appear and food undercooked or incorrect. It was a real shame because the rest of the hotel is amazing. Management don’t seem to have a grip on what’s going on in the restaurant, and the staff are all over the place and complaining about each other and the chef and management etc… All very unprofessional and disappointing. The lunch serving seemed to be ok for some reason, and the food was great.

Absolute perfect elopement wedding❤️ we asked Zookini Tours to do all the arrangements (Wedding Planning) and they booked us into Grande Roche Hotel for probably the most picture perfect wedding. From the staff, to the venue, and finishing with the food, everything was 5 Star.

Grande Roche deserves every one of its 5 stars. The Legacy rooms in what used to be the old coach house of this historic wine farm have been refurbished, are spacious, tastefully decorated with modern touches, and very comfortable. Welcoming touches such as complimentary wine from the estate, chocolate chip cookies, coffee/tea machine, milk (not creamer) were much appreciated. The gardens on the estate were lush and immaculate, the sparkling swimming pool area with spa was an oasis in mid-summer, and breakfast, lunch and dinner on the verandah with a view across the vineyard to the Paarl mountains are an absolute treat. All this enhanced by every single staff member who went out of their way to make our stay as special as it was.

5 star luxury comes at a price, and unfortunately for South Africans, even the cost of a 1 night stay is beyond the means of most. However, for visitors earning £, $ or €, the hotel offers world-class luxury that is very affordable.

We simply loved everything about our stay at Grande Roche Hotel. Ranging from the breakfast, quality and view from the terrace where it is served is amazing, to the equipment and the design of the rooms and the whole estate. We really appreciated the fact that playing tennis and pickle ball is included as well as there is a turndown service. Thanks to the whole stuff! You are all amazing!

Tranquil setting, very quiet and peaceful.

Service was outstanding, food is delicious, property is beautiful. Our room was super comfortable with lots of special touches - homemade cookies, great bath products, welcome bottle of wine, fresh sparkling water every day. Breakfast on the terrace every day was tasty with fantastic choices, served with an outstanding view. The all day menu has excellent choices for people coming and going - tea, late night snack etc., along with regular meals.

There was nothing we didn’t like.

sehr gute Lage, mitten in den Weinreben, perfekt gepflegt, unglaublich nettes Personal, super Frühstück auf der Terrasse, die Garten Suite mit kleiner Terrasse war mit Sitzbereich, großzügigem Schlafbereich und super Bad sehr schön, im Restaurant blieben keine Wünsche offen, wir haben lecker gegessen und getrunken und wurden hervorragend bedient. Fußläufig gibt es noch ein hervorragendes Restaurant "Noop", hier wird afrikanische Küche geboten

This is a really classy beautifully laid out old fashioned hotel. Service is exceptional, attentive without being intrusive. Food is brilliant, and although the restaurant is famous for dinner the breakfast was to die for. Evening cocktails were great too.

Visiting in October the unheated pools were still a little too chilly to enjoy.

The room was beautful, and the breakfast was delicious with plenty of cooked to order choices, and I will miss dining next to the fire in the evenings - the chef was amazing! An absolute hidden gem - from the ambience to the sheee luxury - amazing decor/ cleanliness and to top it all off the employees !

Simply blew us away! Was not expecting such grandeur:luxury and a team that makes you feel special! The food is best in class - just way too much food and this was the same for everything, so my only feedback would be serve half the portions - as we really sent back food both days as it was 3 times what is generally served. The rooms are tastefully furnished - world class incredibly beautiful Egyptian linen, grand bathrooms and definitely worth every cent and more! We will definitely be back- the main road is a mere 5 minute walk with quaint restaurants/ bars and coffee shops if you want to wander outside.
