I really appreciated the birthday treat, thank you so much.
Tea and coffee station had limited tea and sugar in both the rooms.
One of the rooms, the water bottle was empty..
The toilet in my room was not flushing. We had to wait until the next morning for Maintenance to come and fix it, We were inconvenienced by having to use the public toilets at main reception. The ladies toilets were filthy.
Games room and putt-putt area needs to cleaned and updated.
Not the best menu option for a buffet and limited options on the A la carte menu.
Size of snacks on the starter platter was ridiculously small with hardly any filling.
Have been here a couple of times a few years back. Unfortunately in my opinion, it's poor Management, place needs a good face lift all round. Disappointed.

For your own sanity, whatever you do, don't request the ala carte menu for supper, just do the buffet. I say this because it took the staff 30min before they could give us some sort of a kiddies menu. We were essentially been passed from waiter to waiter because none of them knew where the kiddies menu was.
No covered path way between the spar , games rooms and hotel, in heavy rain not safe and convenient
Micro wave required, shower bath water leak s....need to sorted ,flooding.
Prices of dinner and breakfast should give discount for couples

The gate to the beach was not always locked - security concern.
There were no life guards at the beach meaning it was not safe to swim. No one gave us an indication whether it's safe or not.

Reviewed Aug 14, 2026Room generally comfortably fitted. Appreciated little touches such as a "washing line" for "smalls", a refrigerator, and lighting that catered for people who still read in bed. And restaurant service good with food options that suited us.
Staff generally pleasant, but found one or two of the security officers at the gate to be the exception. And little gestures would generate goodwill far exceeding their cost; for example when we shared a sandwich as a midday snack (a three slice sandwich was too much for one old stomach) don't expect us to share a single serviette.

That the rooms no longer have microwaves. I paid for breakfast and brought dinner with the understanding that the rooms have bar bridge and microwave.
The beautiful location, beach access a walk away. Play and pool area was fun for the kids. Staff friendly and very helpful when required.
Easy access to the beach and also the provision of beach towels on request is a great feature. The food is also decent.

The rooms have a very musty smell, probably because of the very old carpets. The room was also quite small so not much place to actually move around.

Reviewed Apr 16, 2026Very friendly staff. The bedrooms were very comfortable and was allocated as requested to be interleaved which was great as we traveled with kids and also wanted to have privacy. They we facing the beach was an added bonus for us.
Breakfast was very good with croissants freshly baked.
Even though the rooms were clean, we did see a few small cockroaches. I thought it was just in our room they were also seen in the kids bedroom.

Reviewed Apr 11, 2026I liked the games and the pool, my kids really enjoyed everything. It was very easy coz it's value for money. I didn't have to leave the hotel for them to have fun.
The carpet smell, and that pictures on Booking.com shows that rooms has microwaves but we didn't have 1.

Reviewed Apr 11, 2026A shared option of tea stuff eg, crossaints, cheese, muffins for people who eat halaal. Many wouldn't eat anything off a buffet due to contamination of halaal and non halaal. Why should we pay a full price on a buffet to eat muffins and crossaints. An option should be given.

The pool, ocean sound from room,aircond, and beds are comfortable
The beautiful beach right by the hotel with an outside shower was great
Our room had no microwave, had to order glasses, cutlery, and extra milk. The dstv had a few channels with terrible connections that we plugged in our own TV dongel to watch Dstv, Netflix, etc.
Rooms are very small, The buffet breakfast was average at R225 a person.
There are no gowns or extra blankets or extra pillows.
Staff need to be more friendly also.
The putt putt is extra not included in your stay like the pool
I'm not very impressed with this Protea Hotel they need to up their game completely!
The staff is nice, food is good the hotel is at an amazing location with great facilities for kids.
I was staying in a room above hotel reception. The staff at reception played music loud at around 12am (he was alone there), I had to ask him to play it softer, which he did immediately. Another day, people were making noise at reception, at around 11pm, the staff at reception didn't reprimand them, again I had to call reception to ask the person to reprimand them. The reception staff at night, must always protect the peace of the guests. Otherwise, I had a great time with my family except those two incidents.
