I booked a lower ground floor unit and upon arrival received a first floor unit. Cleaning was consistently poor. All Beds were extremely uncomfortable, felt like sleeping on a wooden plank. Kids trampoline was broken with a hole in the ground, unsafe for use however was left unattended.

The pool table needs to be replaced as it's very old and u can actually see the one end of board collapsed also new balls because there were more solid balls than stripe ..we enjoy playing pool but didn't enjoy it and it's 5rand a game so was not enjoying it please replace ..thank you

Reviewed Oct 27, 2025We have stayed here several times on previous visits to South Africa and we love that the Illovo Beach is so unspoilt and natural - NOT commercialised and over developed - the beach is pristine, virgin beach - it's wild and beautiful. The accommodation units are equipped to have everything you need for a comfortable stay. The staff are most helpful and pleasant, with many of them having been there for years. The units all face the ocean and have lovely big balconies to sit-out on. The beds are comfy, there's good hot water flow (and no pressure loss when others are showering).
Sadly on this occasion the standard of cleanliness wasn't as high as previously. The sheets and towels were all clean and fresh, the bath, basin and shower were clean, but sadly the kitchen cupboards, kitchen utensils and crockery needed a good clean, as did the floor throughout the unit. It seemed the floor had only had a cursory sweeping in the most prominent places. There were areas around the edges (particularly in the bathroom/toilet) that hadn't been touched for a long time. What it needed was a very good mopping. Pillows:- there were plenty of pillows, the pillow cases were all beautifully clean, but alas the pillows themselves were just too high and bulky for us. We all struggled to actually get our heads onto them and they didn't 'give' very easily. Given there were plenty of them, it would have been nice to have an alternative. So important to be able to get a good night's sleep.

The staff was amazing especially Dephney (the receiptionist) she is friendly and always willing to help everytime. Definetly coming back.

The apartment was well kitted with all you need for a self catering stay. Staff were friendly. Didn’t use other amenities but saw young kids have fun by the pool and games area!
All good (constructive) feedback only: The parking was a bit tight for our big car, the bathrooms don’t have much ventilation so they are very moist. Lastly, the TVs aren’t Youtube and Netflix enabled but there are several good DSTV channels enabled.

The description indicated that the beach was 250m away but in actual fact it was closer to 1km to walk or drive there. The property also advertised Wi-Fi which was non-existent in the rooms.

Reviewed Oct 20, 2023Wonderful views of the coastline and quick, easy access to the beaches. Beautiful, unspoilt, wild beaches - which are difficult to find anywhere in the world these days. Each unit had a lovely, large balcony with a large table and chairs to sit at and enjoy the beautiful coast. We always like self-catering facilities and the kitchen of our accomm had all the essentials. Given the power/energy crisis of South Africa, it was extremely sensible and practical to have a gas cooking hob. It did also have an electric oven. The resort has a generator to kick-in when there are power outages - which is almost imperative to a seamless, hassle-free holiday in South Africa. The master bedroom had the most comfortable bed we've slept in (almost anywhere in our various travels). A huge bonus was that there was alternative, lighter weight bedding available in the unit. Everywhere we have travelled (whether it be summer or winter) the standard bedding has been a duvet only, which is impossible to regulate the temperature under. for a good night's sleep. The resort had good facilities for families too.
Wi-fi was very poor depending on one's network provider. For folk having a longish stay a personal laundry facility could be a big bonus. Monkeys were a constant nuisance. You could not leave doors and windows open as in the blink of eye they'd be in and stealing foodstuffs. The situation could possibly be remedied with a simple monkey-proof mesh at windows?
