I like the building. It's a beautiful small heritage palace with a nice garden. The staffs in the reception were friendly. I was upgraded to a suite because there was a renovation works on another floor which made a lot of noise. The rooms are clean. The beds are comfortable. A small birthday cake presented on my birthday. The breakfast was good with enough variations/styles to choose, with friendly staffs. There is egg station and at least four different juices. The Bar is also okay. Better than I expected regarding the list of the beverages.
The bathroom sink, both in the first room as well as in the suite were brown around the drain hole. I had to tell the cleaning staffs to clean them properly. The breakfast is in a party hall.
The staff and room were lovely. The welcome drink was a nice touch. The heritage feel of the building with modern amenities is excellent. I would have preferred a more robust breakfast spread, but having said that, what was on offer was excellent. For some reason we were given a room that involved a LOT of walking while other rooms were free. BUT, overall, cannot fault the staff and their cooperation and friendliness.
My room was a bit far, and one had to go through the lobby to get to the pool. I would have preferred a more robust breakfast spread, but having said that, what was on offer was excellent.
Loved everything! The hotel is very good. Got the Royal suite, and it was amazing, very beautiful design, beautiful furniture, very big room, and with all the conditions needed. Breakfast was varied and tasty. Spa is nice, the massage was good.
i like the service of the hotel it was really amazing and their staff were very respectful i like the locations as well the pool and garnden area also it was amazing stay thankyou sankar hotel for this facility i will visit once again .
all good no complain

The pool was great. Close to Thamel but in quiet location. Overall very nice,

Beautiful heritage property in the heart of the city.
Everything especially staff was fantastic .
Dear Hotel Shanker, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Hotel Shanker. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the warmth of your hospitality and the exceptional level of service. Every member of your staff was courteous, attentive, and genuinely eager to help, making my stay both comfortable and memorable. During my visit, I was dealing with a leg injury, and your staff went above and beyond to assist me with kindness and compassion. Their support made a significant difference, and I am truly grateful for the care I received. A special thank you to Roshan from the Catering Department. Your kindness, professionalism, and willingness to help were greatly appreciated. Your thoughtful assistance did not go unnoticed, and it is people like you who make Hotel Shanker such a wonderful place to stay. Thank you once again for your outstanding hospitality. I look forward to staying with you again in the future. Cheers!
It was best experience

The location is very good and the staff very helpful and professional. Recommend this hotel to everyone!

A very nice stay. This former palace is both grand and intimate ; a beautiful backdrop for weddings and conferences (both of which occurred during our stay). Our room was modern, spacious, and comfortable. All staff members were professional and helpful. The breakfast buffet was extensive with many choices. I loved the pool area that had its own bar and restaurant and enjoyed both snacks and a light dinner by the pool. Being a former palace, be aware that the driveway is a bit of a walk just to get to the street if you have any mobility issues. Also, because of the nearby embassies and the palace grounds, Google is not accurate in its walking directions and times so be prepared and add extra time for any journey by foot to the nearby attractions. We found Uber and InDrive to work well for the longer distances.
The hostess desk at the entrance to the restaurant during the earlier breakfast hours was often not manned. On our first morning at the hotel, we literally were wandering around the dining area calling out to see if they were open because no one was around. We discovered on our own that you had to walk all the way down a large empty dining area and turn right to find and enter the main breakfast area (which was amazing).
A gorgeous historical building, had a little wander into some of the halls - so lovely Great central location to visit Thamel, palaces, temples and gardens nearby
All was good, they are doing a little bit of maintenance/ upgrade on floor below me but was not noticeable
The staff were attentive and polite. The pool was nice. The hotel had the right amount of nepali tradition and moderness that we hoped for. The spa services, massages, were affordable and the therapists were good. Food was good, a wide range of varieties to suit everyone. Some items on the menu were hit and miss but overall okay.
There were electrical shortages ever so often to a point where we considered it normal. There was a smell in the hallway on the last day that smelt like paint or acetone. The hair services were done by the spa therapists and results were questionable.
The buffet breakfast was amazing. Many choices. If you go away hungry it's your fault. Loved the pool area that had a bar and restaurant. Many shady places to sit. Guest rooms very spacious. Walls were soundproof. Appreciated the full liter bottles of water. Thank you for arranging box breakfasts for our early departure at 430am. Walking distance to Thamel area and the Narayanhiti Palace. Overall excellent stay.
Can think of nothing.
The staff were so friendly and accommodating. Central location, lovely breakfast and clean rooms. Really enjoyed my stay.
We had a wonderful stay at the hotel. It was a complete value for money. The amenities were plentiful. The staff were very friendly and welcoming as well. The property is huge, beautiful, and breakfast was delicious.
The ala carte section on Indian cuisine could be better. Not the menu but the food.
Moore less nothing
Old rooms very short space to roof … worse pillow I have tried in my life // place are total empty and still the security gonna force you to park at a special place .. it’s super old place and smell not best ether.. not worth it at all
Keine negativen Anmerkungen.
Took 2 rooms one of the room was upgraded however the beds were uncomfortable and exausr in the toilet was not working
location, ambience of property of being into a palace, swimming pool and all major attractions in close vicinity
I find restaurant menu limited but still very good
Friendly helpful staff
Very small windows in the room
This old world hotel has a wonderful ambience. You feel as though you stepped back in time to an era of unhurried enjoyment.

Awesome
Breakfast was very good and people are so nice! My children enjoyed the swimming pool.
Staff Hospitality Friendliness
Location,
Pool location. We have to go out of lobby in swimming dress. Quite uncomfortable
The hotel is located at one of the most quiet area of Kathmandu. It has a nice, large garden with a swimming pool. Thamel is only 20 mins walking but after the first attempt, we preferred to use local taxis as it is almost impossible, I would say even dangerous to cross the busy roads especially during the night. The hotel staff is very polite, friendly and helpful. We tried the massage and it was great too. The breakfast is buffet and there are plenty of options to choose from - European, Asian, American. If you need to leave early morning you can ask for a breakfast box. There are often events in the hotel (birthday party, wedding etc.) but it is not disturbing if your rooms are on the upper floor facing the backyard. Hot water is always guaranteed and AC is working properly and quietly. There is daily cleaning, the bedding and the towels are clean and fresh.
The restaurant is very nice but it is in the basement. We had no issue with it but you need to take some stairs that might be inconvenient for people with moving issues.
I liked very much the services at the reception, entrance, tidying and at the breakfast. The staff is working really hard, food was excellent.
Maybe the swimming pool experience was not ideal, there were some reconstructions going on and wedding pictures were taken
Great staff
Loved the hospitality loved everything! Will come back
It had character and charm
Rather circuitous route to the dining area
Location, style and spa
Had ti change room as first one had almost no windows. Small window at floor level, uptoo waist, no view. Secondroom not yet refurbished, though in need of. Unfortunately back courtyard view
Hotel staff are amazing and super helpful Location is tucked behind another building so you don't get all the noise. About 20 min walk to thamel. Big mart (supermarket) & multiple ATMs about 5 min away away
Beds and pillows are on the hard side
I made a booking for my mom in law and for kids. Their experience was amazing.
Nothing
Great location and the staff were lovely. Pool was the perfect temperature and lots of sunbeds available. I had a great massage and the breakfast had enough options.
The A/C in the room didn’t really get cool enough for a good night sleep but I found that similar in other hotels in Kathmandu.
Stunning !!!

Stunning property - regal splendour Absolutely amazing staff- Ganesh at reception was the most humble & excellent member of staff. Catering service teams were brilliant. Breakfast was outstanding

Breakfast was okey.

Charme anglais du 19° siècle, confort actuel. Parc fleuri, piscine, et proche de Thamel. Splendide petit déjeuner.
Accessible, peaceful
One board in the road with the name of the hotel would be great for newcomers
Nothing to say but fantastic loved it... sad to leave we had dinner there 3 nights... loved it great friendly staff... room was fantastic
Breakfast, location, room sizes
Gym not well equipped, location of swimming pool very inconvenient
Breakfast just amazing. Fabulous breakfast room and a fantastic selection. Attentive staff
Everything was top notch, particularly the service. The rooms had every amenities, to the last detail. The most impressive was the buffet breakfast. With so many options, you need to resist from overfilling yourself.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful from check-in to check-out, making the whole experience smooth and welcoming. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with everything I needed. I especially appreciated the attention to detail and the peaceful atmosphere. The location was also very convenient, with easy access to nearby attractions and transport. Overall, it was a relaxing and enjoyable stay, and I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for comfort and great service. I would happily stay here again!
Fantastic property, great base for Katmandu

Location
9/10Excellent central location near Thamel, palaces and temples; convenient for visitors though driveway/walk to street may be an issue for mobility and mapping/travel times may be misleading.
Room Quality
9/10Rooms described as modern, spacious and comfortable; guests enjoyed the pool-side dining and comfortable bedroom facilities.
Amenities
8.4/10Strong amenities (pool with bar/restaurant, spa, bakery/celebration gestures) but occasional electrical shortages, maintenance work and some inconsistent spa/hair service reduced the score slightly.

9/10Viewed as very good value — guests specifically called it good value and noted affordable spa services and broad food variety.
Food and Beverage
8.8/10Breakfast and buffet widely praised as extensive and amazing; some menu items were hit-or-miss and early breakfast host/entrance desk sometimes unmanned.
